Booked a flight for my daughter who is planning to come home from college. Got a good price from faregeek and booked it. A day later received an email saying that they needed me to fill in a '3rd party form' as my daughter did not pay for her own ticket. Obviously alarm bells rang and I called up a few other agents and they said they would need need me to fill out the same type of form. Apparently it is to do with online card fraud as some friends have had the same experience booking for their children. After also checking with friends I sent the form and then received the ticket. My daughter traveled back with no issues. Reading these reviews I don't think that this is a scam website, however I think that a lot more needs to be done to inform people how the system works. I got a good deal but if I wasn't watching my emails then I may have had more problems. Would use them again only for the savings.
Concerned when seeing these reviews but I got a really cheap ticket that's been confirmed. Can't really ask for more.
Much cheaper than expedia etc for my ticket but need more people on the phones or even better faster replies to emails.
I booked on fare geek several weeks prior to my expected departure. Exactly 1 week before I was set to leave I received an e-mail from them saying my flight was cancelled. Upon calling customer service to find out why, I sat on hold for 35 minutes and ended up speaking to someone who apparently has no control over their bookings. From the conversation, I learned than the price that they had advertised on the site, the price I purchased at was not available. They said they do not charge our cards until the ticket is issued, in that time period the price had changed to the tune of DOUBLE. So, my $774 dollar fare turned into a $1500 fare, quite literally. They informed me that they had contacted me regarding the price change of which I received no contact, nothing on the answering machine, nothing in my e-mail at all. They insisted that they had, and I was obviously wrong. They also noted that they were not in control of the fare prices. Why would they confirm my cost then, send me a confirmation e-mail and then try to tell me that their confirmation wasn't valid. What good are they then as a travel broker if the prices they advertise would change between the time you CONFIRM the flight and the time they finally decide to charge the card and lock in the fare. I'm extremely dissatisfied and will NOT ever be booking with them again.
Price was quite a bit cheaper than other sites. Ticket has checked out with the airline so thumbs up from me. One problem with all these travel sites why add extra fees for cards at the end, why not show at the start so we know the final price?
I also like many of theses reviews was redirected to Faregeek where I booked my ticket and then realised the day before I am going to travel that it is cancelled! What is going on... I had been on hold an hour and a half with no answer, there automated voice that says to leave a message and someone will call you back does not work and they do no answer there emails. My ticket is now costing me an extra $500 to book at the last minute. Im super stressed and this is ridiculous. I never thought I would experience this just to book a ticket.
I looked for a flight on skyscanner back in January, found a flight and was redirected to faregeek. I was charged 50 per ticket in additional fees and taxes, not in the quoted price, but this is commonplace now. The main issue came when my flight times changed. I requested other options, and the company instead CANCELLED MY RESERVATION WITHOUT CONSENT. I have to fly in two days, I had a reservation for two months and now I have nothing. Do NOT book with these people.
Booked a ticket for my son and received further an email saying they needed further information. Was pretty nervous but called their number and spoke to someone called Marcus and received ticket straight away. He was helpful but I would recommend that you watch your emails as sometimes they need more info to make a ticket. All in all an ok experience with a cheap ticket.
It has been a little over 2 weeks since I booked. I got a comformation e-mail with a flight number. After a week later I got an e-mail which showed 'your flight has been cancelled'without any notice.
Therefore, I tried to call them for hours and hours. Flnalliy I was able to reach them and they said I had to book again. The price has increased! Anyway I didnt have a chance so I booked with the stuff. But somehow my flight has cancelled again. I called them again but they said the stuff never come to work after she finished call with me. The price gap was 300dollars than I booked at first. My flight has been canceled 2 times, and I couldnt book after all. I will not use this company anymore.
I found a ticket on skyscanner. Skyscanner redirected me to faregeek. As I reached check out, the total price that I was shown for my ticket was $142.80. I clicked the check out button, and they charged me $14.99 in "additional fees." When I called to get them to explain to me why the extra charge was there and why I hadn't been notified BEFORE clicking "check out", the guy on the phone (manager) was rude, wouldn't listen to me, and ultimately hung up on me while I was trying to speak.
Once booked I didn't get my confirmation immediately so called the helpline... 25 mins later finally got through and got my confirmation but was told e ticket could take 24 hours... which I have now received. Being an experienced traveler I am wary of using agents and not directly booking with airlines especially after reading everything on this site. In this case it was worth the savings and time spent on the phone.
Everyone, please be aware of the FareGeek scam, if i read the reviews i would have never proceeded with doing any sort of business.
I was searching the tickets for India, when i found this website. I gave my CC details and i received the confirmation email. I was concerned when i didn't received the etickets for 2 days. I tried contacting there customer service but everytime it took more than one hour to get connected to the agent, they would listen and then they would hung up.
Ultimately i have to call my credit card company and ask them to cancel all transactions.
BE AWARE OF THE PATHETIC CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Please spread the word and ask everyone never to do business with them.
Thanks
Saved $32 on my flight from Chicago to LA. Have seen the reviews and then checked with United if ticket reference is valid and all seems ok. Not going to give them 5* as not dealt with their customers service, but i'm sure its not going to be the best at these prices!
I really wish I would have read some of these reviews before I purchased (or should I say, thought I purchased) a flight from the SCAM ARTISTS at FareGeek.
Like the hundreds of people before me, I purchased a flight for a friend of mine and I to travel for a conference. I received an email with a CONFIRMATION number, assuming that was our flight reservation number. Then the idiots at faregeek call my cell phone like 4 times the next morning while I was in class and left a message saying 'there was an issue with the flight', So I call back right away and speak to some guy who I can barely hear and understand and he says 'oh no, the flights are fine and confirmed, we just want to confirm payment with this credit card' So I say 'okay thats fine charge the card'
Then 2 days later I get an email addressed to the person I'm travelling with saying her fair was on hold and we had to call back.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I'VE CALLED I'VE BEEN ON HOLD FOR 45+ MINUTES. So frustrating. Then i called back today and they said OUR RESERVATION HAD BEEN CANCELLED. Then I went on to say how I dont understand how a company could operate like this and the piece of $#*! operator HUNG UP ON ME,. He was also incredibly rude before that and kept cutting me off when I was talking
So keep in mind all this crap with the tickets is occurring 3 days before I'm supposed to leave, and flight prices have TRIPLED, and as a student I cant afford this.
I am contacting a lawyer about a class action law suit. I am so livid right now... DONT EVER EVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY
Booked my flight through Fare Geek and they gave me a confirmation number. After ten days they send an email to let me know that the reservation has been cancelled. Blame it all on the airline. By then the airline prices have soared. I called up the airline and they told me that the reservation was not confirmed hence the cancellation. Customer service is very poor. Will never book through them again
I as I read some the reviews on this site, it appears that fakegeek is hit or miss, but mostly a miss. I ended buying a ticket from DC to mexico for memorial day weekend from them prior to reading these reviews. The ticket was really cheap and raised an eyebrow, so I decided to stay on them. In buying the ticket, I got a confirmation from them telling me I was confirmed - however, the confirm number is their number, not the airline confirmation number. I waited about an 1 hour, I did not receive any airline confirm, so I called them and was told that my cc was in "approval stage". That didn't sound right, so I checked around on the internet and found this site. After reading here, I called my cc company and they told me this company is not fraudulent, but they have bad ratings - 1 star :(. So, my cc company said they couldn't do anything until faregeek charged my card. Given the reviews here and my CC company's information, I basically decided not to do business with them. To give them one more chance, later that evening, I called faregeek again and asked for my airline confirmation number, so I can reserve my seat. The rep (some Asian Indian dude) said that I was "confirmed" and didn't see the problem. Then mumbled something about putting a request in and then hung up on me. After that call, checked my CC to see, if I had been charged. Alas! I had been charged a 1.00, so called my cc and they told me the charge was an authorization hold. I told them faregeek refused to provided me my airline tickets - which is true, so they canceled the card number and issued me a new card # - Problem solved :) Faregeek called and sent me emails for 3 days telling me CC had been declined and I didn't respond back to them. 2 weeks later, I got my tickets with airline confirmation from expedia at a comparable price without a hassle. If you are currently in this position with faregeek, I suggest you call your credit card company and cancel your number. Yes, it's hassle with a new card #, but you'll be happy that you didn't get the airport on your travel day without a ticket! As folks have indicated here.
After reading a few of these reviews I was having a potential 'brownpant' moment. I had booked my flight and checked with the airline but still no e ticket. It took them 2 days to send it to me. Not sure why it took so long but cross checked with airline and it was booked. Why not just send the eticket straight away? Worth the ticket saving on this occasion.
So I booked a round trip with them and immediately received a confirmation email with card being charged and a PNR number with the airline. I then went on the airline website and this PNR would not work and not display any itinerary. Ofcourse I kept calling them with long hold times. Finally got hold of an agent who said it was never ticketed cause the price went up - when asked why wasn't I notified they said they don't and to read the fine prints in the email! I denied paying the increased fare and asked to talk to supervisor and he hung up on me. So basically I thought they cancelled booking.
I made another fresh booking directly with the airline and when I went to the airport to check in found that there was another confirmed booking from faregeek! They never issued me a ticket number in the email and ticketed even when I asked to cancel!
So now I'm disputing that charge with my credit card - has anyone else disputed and got the money back?
NEVER USE THIS WEBSITE!
It's a scam and fraud company. They just did a fraud on my credit card and have stopped responding to my emails and phone calls now. I am filing a police complaint against them here in Canada. It seems this company is run by only 2 guys who are sitting somewhere else but not in North America as most of the time they say they are working night shifts. Do not trust them at all and spread the word. I am shocked that they have been doing frauds for years and nobody took any action against them
This company is very shady and don't disclose terms, take forever to answer phone (1 hour+), and once they have your credit card number they basically tell you they will charge you for whatever fees they like even when those fees are not disclosed on their website. Thieu agents also are rude and speak over you and don't let you finish your sentence before interrupting you. They have no clue what customer service means and are clearly not in business to get repeat business from repeat and happy customers.
Answer: Stay away, look at my review. These guys are crooks
Answer: Sorry to hear about your mother Laura. We should all report them!
Answer: It depends on the airline not on fare geek, but don't book with this company if you can manage not to. They are literally liars, and I hope I don't run into Yu's problem because I just cancelled my flight with them.
