I still use Expedia, even though there are other options. I like their interface. Some airlines don't show up there though, and sometimes less expensive flights can be found on the airline's site or via Kayak. Still, Expedia is super solid.
We cancelled a flight because of Covid... we got an extension, but it doesn't work for us... basically the said too bad... use it or lose it and no refund... I am military and won't be home until after the extension... they said sorry, I will lose it... unwilling to help, they pocket the money... even reaching out to the executives... no dice... you think a guy who makes between 2-4 million a year would have some passion and heart for a family could make an exception for $950... guess not... thanks Peter Kern CEO
I booked through Expedia for a hotel in Klamath Falls Oregon. Upon check-in there was no reservation under my name or reservation confirmation. The cities hotels were completely booked due to a college graduation and prices had gone from $107 per night to $350. After going round and round for an hour and a half they figured out they made a mistake and booked me in Kalamazoo Minnesota at the same hotel chain. Because of third party booking, they had already taken monies from my credit card. There was only one room left at this hotel which I had to take. After a three day fight with Expedia, they agreed to refund my money. Use this company with caution. For myself, NEVER AGAIN!
Due to a glitch on their website Expedia booked us in for a date two weeks later than the date we selected with no disclaimer or warning. We literally arrived at the hotel to find that it was booked out and Expedia had simply bumped us to the next available date instead - 14 days later than the date we booked!
We didn't have enough money to book another hotel (last night of our trip) but Expedia refused to use the money we'd paid them to book us another room even though the fault was on their end and they could have cancelled our other booking since it wasn't for another two weeks.
They also promised to refund us but have never done so nor returned any of our messages.
Their service is truly terrible, unprofessional and untrustworthy. Do not get caught out by their negligence, book through absolutely anyone else.
Looking at the staggering amount of other negative reviews online for this company -I think it's time their dodgy practices were shut down!
Got some decent (but not crazy good) deals, and liked that it was pretty easy to book, so I used Expedia.com for years. Then they suddenly started spamming me with 3 or more emails every day. I tried to used the "one a week" option in their subscriptions, but it didn't work, so I tried to unsubscribe, and still no help, so I contacted support via their web-page form and didn't even get a response. So, I've had to blacklist them, and need to advise you to avoid using this company as they care little for their customers.
When you rent a car from expedia you will get a reservation confirmation with a total amount of the rental and under the total amount it will say "all taxes and fees included in the total amount"... well, that is a LIE. I was charged over $125 MORE than my reservation amount that i agreed upon and when i reached out to expedia to be compensated for the overcharge, they told me that their policy is that they are not responsible for any other fees, taxes that the car rental company charges above the fee you agreed to with Expedia and that they will not honor their reservation total.
Expect to pay way more in taxes, fees than what expedia tells you!
Worst experience ever i had with expedia.com in all my history of dealing with travel industries as today I am recognizing such irresponsible organization they are. Just simply thinking about money. Be careful when dealing with them I bought ticket from them and the airline has canceled his flights since February 2020 and they are not welling to pay back the compensation. They just told me we didn't charge you and the airline charged your card. It means they are passing your card details to the third-party. Take care and secure your self even you pay little more when booking tickets.
Be sure to read Expedia terms and conditions. You might not get refunded for a cancelation even if the hotel, airline, or etc offers one. It is better to use their site as a search and then go pay for the service directly to the provider. I rented a car then tried to cancel with Expedia. After several hours of being on hold I gave up and was charged. Even though I was at the counter at the rental car company they could not help me because I book through Expedia. Lesson learned for me and hope this helps someone else.
I just feel like someone has to say this. Sure, expedia makes it easy to find what seems like the cheapest prices, but if you really want to pay less, you have to look around and see cheaper ways to fly to a place.
I bought an airline ticket through Expedia for Aer Lingus. All fell through during Covid. Now that things are opening up, Expedia will not make exceptions to their rules so now I am out just under $1000 and there is no recourse for me. I have been learning the hard way, it is best to book airline tickets and hotels with the actual place and NOT through a company like Expedia. In the long run, you save more money.
Often one can get a better price from a hotel itself, particularly a smaller / local inn. However, for business travel or to a fancy destination, Expedia has good discounts. The site is easy to use and follow up to customer satisfaction is very good.
You always end up paying more than what you agreed to. Customer service is $#*! and rude, also they put your number on list if you complain a lot to make sure they make your life hell. They stopped answering my emails or calls.
Attending a conference in Austin so I book my hotel and airline ticket through Expedia. After my trip, I need the detailed hotel expense breakdown (room price per day, room tax, etc.) receipt in order to submit my expense report instead of a total hotel change that Expedia sent me via email. I called Expedia several times and requested for a detailed hotel expanse breakdown receipt from them and I got the same answer that they will send it to me within 24 to 48 hours. They never did! I called again and again, and finally got in touch with their support supervisor and she sent me the 'itinerary' instead, TWICE. At this time, I still did not receive anything from Expedia and I'm mad as hell.
Expedia went above and beyond in taking care of a totally bad- failed situation for me. I booked a stay at a hotel that had a contract within another- RedDoorz Premium near Gaston Park Cagayan De Oro City. I was on vacation from the USA and I get there and the hotel no longer exists. Only the new hotel and the old sign above the building. After a couple calls expedia had me in another hotel close by with all above and beyond expenses paid. They even switched me one more time to an even better hotel after I found that one not up to my standards. They really took care of what could've been a very bad situation. Thank you so much...!
I enjoy having all my travel information and itinerary streamlines and available through their app, including flight times, reminders to check in, hotel and car rental information. Prices on flights are not the lowest and some careful browsing can save you some money though.
Worsted company that I saw!
I bought a ticket with protection plan that says refundable up to total flight cost.
But when I cancel the flight they does not want to return money. They make me credit to expedia and I can buy another ticket only from them, and they charge 200$ for this cancellation.
Expedia has hidden charges. They show you on the receipts what they want you to see to make it look like their prices are low. When you go to their page to reserve, check "Important Information". Example if a hotel charges $ 25 a day for parking they do not put it in your receipt.
Used Expedia to book a hotel for one night in Philadelphia. I have been buried in junk emails from them since. Sometimes 2 or 3 a day. Suggestions for what to do, requests to review my stay etc. etc.
I can find no unsubsubscribe button anywhere on any of the emails. Finally added them to my blocked sender list and sent them a really nasty email asking to have all of my information removed from their system. Will see how they handle that.
Tried for over an hr to get someone from Expedia to actually talk to on phone, via their ironically named "customer service" department.
After being on hold for about 45 min., i was disconected, and this happened twice!
Can't imagine Expedia can stay in business this way--just awful.
Please don't book through this company Expedia this is scamming website they steal my money even though I have warranty customer service is horrible can't get hold of anyone. This website is some kind of scamming website they steal money from people so easily. They are easy to book anything you want but will screw you up if you decided to cancel your trip or whatever please trust my review don't full your self with Expedia.
Answer: You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.
Answer: Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!
Expedia has a rating of 2.1 stars from 1,603 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Expedia most frequently mention customer service, credit card and next day. Expedia ranks 203rd among Travel Search Engine sites.
