In all do honesty if I could give this company less than one I would. To ask someone for $200 for a handmade item and then to mail them plastic items that you could pick up from local game store as cake toppers and say that they're handcrafted is downright rotten, irresponsible, and bad business. If people are going to keep doing business with this company Please be aware that the return policy for an item it that you're unsatisfied with is only half of what you paid for it because they're handcrafted... when I go home I fully intend to look again at the bottom of these little tiny statues and see where they exactly came from and find out exactly how much they actually cost. On the website at first they were $50 then they were bumped up a $150 because they were out of stock and needed to be handmade... when we received the box and found pre molded plastic figurines that weren't even the hand-painted item they where said to be we where disappointed I and upset... As well as a outraged. They are mere plastic like you would get in a McDonald's Happy Meal. Then the resolve was just as dispicable... we were offered a 50/50 split she would keep $100 we would return the items and we would get $100 back... That's not just poor business but nerve as well as fraudulent practice... I don't know anything else to say except that this person is opportunistic and unfeeling... And moreover takes advantage of those who are in love... but we will overcome this and my daughter will have a beautiful wedding.
I received order on May 20,2022. Why can't I "open a case" with Etsy now or write a review / "leave a review on 07 July, 2022" /?
The BnhStone seller does not answer my objections, questions and requests for clarification of lies that he used to sell this item.
Another thing:
I haven't received my order # *******863. Curier UniUni on December 27,2021 left the parcel in the hall of the building but someone simply stole it, which I found out much later, when I started demanding the order.
The conversation explaining what happened lasted a long time, with the seller and the UniUni company. The term "open a case" has expired, the seller and the courier company do not respond to my requests for reimbursement of the costs of an unrealized order. What can I do?
*******@etsy.com:
"This is not a monitored inbox. If you're looking for support from Etsy, visit our Help Center. If you have item or order questions, directly contacting the buyer or seller on Etsy is the best first step.".
I have contacted the sellers many times. Without result. So who can help me?
Be VERY careful about using this website!
We found product description (earrings) misleading in that an antique was strongly implied but what was received was cheap modern. Similar things are available almost anywhere. We paid GBP £36 but US parcel carried customs declaration value (by sender) of USD $9.99 which is approx max GBP£7 at current exchange rate.
Attempted to return goods (as is our right under UK Distance Selling), but no reply to email.
US supplier had originally made preposterous claim that the nature of the goods meant no return would be possible. Because ETSY has what purports to be a UK website (and thus, registration), and because we were paying in GBP£, we stupidly assumed ETSY UK would properly abide by Distance Selling customs... should have known better.
The goods we want to return are absolutely unused and pristine in every detail in original unmarked packaging. Goods are fit for resale without contest.
We have ZERO RESPONSE to attempted communications.
For ourselves, we shall NEVER deal with ETSY again... and suggest you think twice.
No protection against fraud. I bought a necklace for one of my bridesmaids from "Sharies." The necklace came broken, and when I returned it she was rude bordering on cruel and she:
1) denied it was broken
2) Told me that it was my fault if the necklace was broken because she posted an image of it
3) Told me that I did not know how the clasp worked and that's why I thought it was broken
4) Told me if it was broken, the mistake happened in shipping
5) Told me there was no possibility of returns and I should have thought of that before I bought a necklace from her
6) Told me I had no recourse for reporting internet fraud because she clearly states on her Etsy page that she accepts NO RETURNS
I can see why
No quality control over what is produced - all CRAP CRAP CRAP - go local!
They have no control over what is produced and they have NO interest in resolving issues, they just make a cut putting vendors (not all that good) in touch with idiots like mysef who think by ordering through such a professional looking Website, it will all be lovely - NO WAY - go anywhere else!
I bought many great items on Etsy for the past year or so until recently. I purchased a tiny little Sapphire ring from a seller in Great Neck New York. Nabati Jewelry. Nathan Nabat. I returned the ring and asked for a refund. The ring was suitable for a child not an adult. Nathan said he would give me a refund to my credit card. After a week no refund and no ring. I am out $2000. I called and emailed Etsy with no response. Then they told me they sided with the seller. I could not open a case or leave a review. A totally dishonest seller who cheated me? Anyway, today I filed a police report because this nasty seller keeps calling me at all hours and yells profanity. Luckily the police do take this behavior very seriously. In any case, I guess harassment is acceptable behavior for Etsy sellers. Yet on their site they clearly state that they do not tolerate harassment. Right. So now I am considering suing both this seller and Etsy for failing to protect customers from dangerous people. May not be worth my time, money and trouble. We will see. Please be very careful of this seller--he is not stable. I am waiting to receive all the orders I placed on Etsy and than I will close my account. It is not worth all this harassment to buy on Etsy. Buyer beware.
Everything is done by email, no phone customer support! You have to have a degree in design and website creation to list a legitimate store, then when you delete your account, THEY will not remove the outdated CACHE and Google can't touch it, because Esty is he 3rd party that has to remove the cache.
Also, they start charging your credit card immediately even before your store is created and capturing orders.
THEY WON'T RESPOSND TO ANY EMAILS TO HELP REMOVE THEIR OUTDATED CACHES', SUCH A $#*! $#*! COMPANY!
I reviewed this site because I was searching for something nice for a special friends birthday. Because she likes simple things I wanted to get her a pair of earrings that where different but just very simple. Since she is Polish I found a pair of Poland map earrings that where very unique. They where round and hanging off of what I thought where silver wires. When I inquired about them on the site I received an e-mail saying that they where not sterling silver. I also noticed while reading the order and shipping agreement. That Etsy would not be responsible for any damage during shipping. Also they would not replace or take them back. I could not believe that they expect a customer to take a chance like that. I think that this is not the way to sell merchandise if you can't back the order. This is insane for them to expect the customer to eat the loss after paying for an item. I found a better site that I am doing a review on that does back there products. Make sure to read about Sherry Truitt studios on my review of that site. I hope all that read this review ask questions before placing an order with this seller. www.etsy.com
Dreadful online shopping experience and garbage website.
I ordered some fabric - paid extra for rapid shipping. The item still arrived a few days late.
The amount received was a third short of what I ordered. Thats quite a lot of missing fabric.
No response from seller after requesting assistance. None. Not a single acknowledgement.
(Seller still advertising the exaggerated measurements for their fabric and charging according)
Etsy has some stupid complaint procedure that wont allow you to register a complaint unless you upload a photo. Not suitable for dealing with fabrics that run into metres in length, but no they insist on that stupid photo.
A week on - not single response from either the Etsy seller or from Etsy.
A week on. No response. No attempt to rectify the problem and even though I requested express shipping, they don't allow me an option to request express rectification - the only thing to do is therefore to get a replacement from a reliable outfit.
I have absolutely no ability to rate the sellers - this is not like ebay. This is an absolutely shady situation.
Complete waste of time and money.
I could have got something next day from a larger retailer. The whole idea of supporting local business through Esty is bunk. Service quality is clearly an issue if they deny buyers like me an opportunity to leave feeback.
I imagine they make all their money from sellers and go the extra mile to protect seller from buyers who have been disappointed.
Absolute garbage. Will never use this website ever again. Zero chance.
Etsy can be a very profitable site to sell on but beware as there are some serious pitfalls.
I would advise any seller to have a fall back plan as Etsy can be very unforgiving if you break one of their rules. They are very arbitrary in applying them as they will let off some shops (eg for reselling) but penalize others for just one non vintage item which mistakenly creeps in.
If you search Google you will see that Etsy has a very bad reputation for this.
Another negative is that their forums are run in a very unprofessional way by semi literate "hipsters" who can often misunderstand words and phrases used in other cultures. Then the writer gets banned from the forums for a period, or even premanently for the kinds of petty infringements which would not even be infringements on other forums. Moreover this means you cannot even post in the "bugs" section or on the Etsy blog - both of which can be a real disadvantage in running your business.
All these online sites have their petty spineless snitches but snitching is a fine art on Etsy. These creatures are given to much power and credence and often operate in groups to take down shops of sellers who are competitors. In some ways its like a cross between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia.
Having said all this its possible to make good money on Etsy if you have a unique product on which you can make a good margin. Just dont get involved in the politics of the site.
The ratings I have given below are for Etsy as a site, since it is a platform for independent sellers.
This doesn't even deserve 1 star! Etsy is NOT trustworthy! I lost just under $50 due to this scam! ETSY IS A SCAM DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I'm strongly recommending don't us ETSY EVER!
I bought a $40 tapestry from etsy and it has been more than a month and it hasn't come so I then opened up a case to try and find my order, they said it was a closed case and that the person I bought it from took my money and deleted their account! I was furious so I asked etsy if they could contact them and get my money back and they said we can't sorry!
R U SEROIUS so now I'm taking things into my own hands and dealing with this myself them $#*!WITS!
Purchased a £8.41 mask. Took a month to send and then received a £11.59 import tax and import tax handling fee. Should have been made clear. Wouldn't use this company again and not recommend.
As a seller, for quite a few years now I really don't know why I haven't left earlier. I have spent so much time and effort on my shop and products, and given Etsy way to much money... I found that some of MY INVENTIONS would be copied, so I just took them off all together.
There's to many and to much CRAP shall I say, on there... LOts of OVERSEAS shall we say sellers., and It seems if you don't pay for Extra advertising, well... YOu get lost in the shuffle.
I felt like I was being nickel and Dimed just more and more... They were making more off of me than I was making myself. I did the WEB page new thing they have... The constant renewal fees,,, everytime I made a sell fees... uploaded item fees... and now with all the new stuff they have coming at us... For THEM to make money...
My Items are getting further and further back in the Pile.
I am leaving you Etsy, you done me wrong... Making my own website with another host where I have more control over the Design of my pages... and can put as many things on it and whatever I want it, without being shut down and not be charged extra...
I am actually saving money!
I will continue to buy my Items from the sellers, my suppliers I have grown to love,,, they have been good to me... But I think being on MY Own is so much more freeing than that NIckel and Dime Shop they have going on... Good Luck everyone.
I was afraid to use etsy in the first place but a co-worker encouraged me so i took the plunge... and boy do I regret it! I spent money on jewlery that i am assuming will never arrive. I am very disapointed and sad. I was so looking forward to a few of the peices I ordered. STAY AWAY DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
I purchased a knife from some outfit called Uneekitemz.
After no notifications from him (the owner), and only after I made inquiries directly to him, did I finally receive the item. It was totally defective. I wrote to him demanding to return the item. I did get a refund along with a series of insults, personal threats, threats to my business and livelihood and unbelievable rudeness, crassness and vulgarity of the highest order.
I don't know how ESTY works. However, I will not allow myself to be treated in such a manner. This man engages in fraud and rudeness.
I am in the process of preparing to file complaints with the Attorney's General's Offices in New York and Oregon. I don't think I have ever encountered a more contemptible, disgusting, vile person ( and company such as ESTY)) than I have with the gentleman who runs the store within ESTY.
Fraud, dishonesty and disgusting behavior are something the public should not have to put up with or tolerate.
I am going to inform every web site and review platform I can find and state the facts as they transpired. I would strongly suggest that whomever runs Esty do something about how they conduct business.
I see from the various reviews out there that many people have complained about ESTY. I hope they will do something to rectify this situation.
Very bad customer servic: this is a scam. I bought a beach umbrella: It took almost 2 months before I received it (while I was supposed to receive it in 3 weeks). I treated the umbrella with a proper waterproof product, and all colours faded away anyway They ( were dealing with DHL: and told me it was THEIR problem)... this is the WORST delivery company i've dealt with: IMPOSSIBLE to talk with anybody. And ETSY, didn't care AT ALL! I guess they care of there customer as much as?... AND for the same item, prices would change from one day to another, as well aq the delivery cost. This i strange... NEVER AGAIN witn Etsy... I care about people: so if they don't care about customer, imagin with their own employees? I feel sorry sorry for them.
Purchased necklace with "Sea glass" pendent. Sea glass pendent was plastic; not sea glass and the necklace clasp broke off when trying it on. Wasted $48.
I ordered an infinity scarf from craftsbybeck and am very pleased. The scarf is beautifully made and arrived within a few days. I highly recommend craftsbybeck.
Most reviewers tending to the negative seem not to understand that Etsy is a platform and not an online shop
You will have to choose with care which seller you are buying off, as you will have to on any online platform
If the seller accepts paypal not much can go wrong: if the item deos not arrive or is defective, you can get a refund
What's very nice about Etsy is the wide range of handmade and/or vintage items, as such a wide array is not available elsewhere in such concentrated form AFAIK
I received the wrong item and simply wanted a refund. After completing the online forms and hearing nothing from the seller I spent over an hour on the website searching for Etsy contact number. Only after searching internet did I find instruction to location the contact number. You must call, leave your number and they will contact you.
Upon receiving contact I informed the CSR I wanted a refund and that my case had already been opened and closed by Etsy. She assured me this would be escalated and reviewed again. Within 5 minutes of the phone call I received an email from her stating my case had already been reviewed and closed and was closed again. There was no re-review.
It has been 2 weeks now with no reply from the seller who is MagicMemoryMugs. Be sure to order nothing from MagicMemoryMugs or Etsy. They are a rip off company and once you receive an item, ANY item they are done with you.
What a horrible company! I hope they go bankrupt and everyone loses their jobs. They are a public nuisance and should be delisted from Nasdaq immediately!
Once they have your money they are done with you! Dont get tricked by these charlatans and evil doers.
Answer: Check the reviews, and Google the seller. Also, are the reviews written in good english? Does it seem fake? Check pictures from the buyers.
Answer: I would have to say no, with LOTS of exceptions. In the past few years Etsy has allowed business to claim handmade if it meets certain criteria. I often see many items that claim to be handmade but I have seen them on Alibaba being sold in bulk. That being said I look very closely and have purchased some wonderfu items from great sellers. The biggest problem with Etsy is that they no longer protect customers from fraud (they say they are not liable) but in doing that lots and lots or resellers and counterfeit items have saturated Etsy' s marketplace. I would never buy anything "vintage" there. What I have seen you are getting thrift store rejects or modern fake. Buyer beware! Investigate all vendors carefully!
Answer: I am agree with Ramina. 90% is not hand made. All comes from Factories. When someone has over 8000's item don't you ask who made it. They are all over from Pakistan to turkey east to west up united state. Etsy is happy just to take your money and every 4 or 5 months closing one store to show off and if you have some money as a credit they take it too. No customer service, no respect no manor, they made policy just for FUN and they have FUN with our pocket. Stay far from them FAR FAR.
Answer: I agree with Steve J on this one. A lot of sellers on Etsy work from home in the evenings for extra money. Most of them are not big businesses with massive inventories so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Give them a little more time and if they dont send it out then file a case with etsy
Answer: Business checking isn't necessary (the banks now charge a monthly fee for a small business checking). You can pretty much set up a regular checking account
Answer: I believe this depends on each seller. Etsy is simply a platform for sellers, and often does not have any direct involvement with orders short of processing the payment. Certain items cannot be returned for safety and hygiene reasons, and sellers can refuse to do anything other than exchange. Contacting Etsy may or may not change the results.
Answer: If you do, I would be cautious about ordering from international sellers, use a credit card in case you need to contest the charges, and do NOT expect ETSY do a thing if you get ripped off. They are useless and could care less once the sale is final.
Answer: I have bought a number of items through Etsy and with great success. I had only one negative experience and Etsy took are of that. I recommend Etsy wholeheartedly.
Answer: The best and quickest thing to do is to email the seller and let them know that you would like to return for a refund.
Etsy has a rating of 1.6 stars from 1,568 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Etsy most frequently mention customer service, credit card and phone number. Etsy ranks 586th among Marketplace sites.
