My account has been HACKED! I have tried several times to reach out to Etsy.com to close down this account because I have had my Identity compromised! I have made several attempts to get someone at this company to call me so I can talk to a person! I have had no luck in these endeavors. They do not have anyway for consumers to contact a REAL person and not again give their PERSONAL information over the WEB! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
I ordered a valance for my kitchen window, and received it. I had no problem with that order. Then I decided it wasn't full enough and I tried ordering another one. What a nightmare! They blocked my account. That's where it started to turn ugly. Wanting to get to the bottom of this, I looked up customer service numbers. One of the numbers has a recording that this number is no longer in service so. I tried calling another number and that had a recording of this number does not take incoming calls. Needless to say I was upset. Then the real trouble began. I finally got a hold of someone and asked for help. She took my phone number and said she need to talk to someone and would get back with me the next day. She did call me back the following day and said my account had been red flagged. I ask what does that mean. She then said to call there fraud department, and gave me a number. I called the number and they said they red flagged my account because they believed someone was trying to hack my account. I was so upset. This back and forth calling from the fraud department went on for about three days. The person I spoke to was rude and talked down to me.
I'm sick over this. I have called my bank, and credit card company to check if they had anything that looked bogus. They said no. I'm wondering if I actually spoke to a fraud department or it was scam artist. I still have not had this issue resolved. DO NOT USE THIS SITE!
This is a bit of a nitpicky review, but I have to say it. Etsy is a great place to find some awesome crafts, but they don't do anything for quality control. Its a buyer beware situation...
Etsy does not vet their sellers or buyers and when you get scammed like I did, Etsy says sorry this has happened and they wash their hands of it and you are on your own to get your money back.
Etsy is the worst! They have done as much as they can to destroy the quality of sellers that they host by allowing mass produced junk products from China or elsewhere. I know artisans on there, that have had their designs stolen and massed produced in China. I opened my Zibbet stores October 2013 when they announced that they were going to let mass produced products to be sold on Etsy. Yes I was one of the masses that left for Zibbet. In a couple of months of being on Zibbet, I made more sales and special orders than I did the years on Etsy. Etsy doesn't give a s**t if you complain to them. If you do, your stores will be booted off Etsy. They have become just like ebay. Tons of fees. When you need help and contact the admin for help, an autobot sends an email saying that they have received your email. Then they don't do anything. OH! Also don't forget that they will target individual stores and mess up the programing of the store just for giggles. That's what the CEO Chad used to do before he came to etsy.
Etsy.com is a listing fee scam for sellers. They'll close down your store without warning even if you have sold hundreds of items with all positive feedbacks.
I received an incorrect chocolate bouquet from a seller in Maryland who is all about making chocolate/candy bouquets. I ordered a Reese's chocolate bouquet "explosion" and was incorrectly sent a candy "explosion". I left a 1-star review explaining the situation. Leaving a review is standard in most other industries to get things corrected. Instead, the seller got ahold of my personal email and said "I wish you had reached out before leaving us a 1-star review. We will ship a new bouquet on Monday to arrive Wednesday. If you could update your review once you receive this new bouquet, we would very much appreciate it". By the time this replacement bouquet reached my location, the occasion would have passed. Therefore, I declined. The seller was also trying to perform review manipulation, which is against Etsy policy. The seller should have refunded my money immediately but did not. I wanted to report this misbehavior.
Not only was Etsy's customer service number deactivated, but I could also not start a case independent of the seller. I should be able to reach out to Etsy privately and separately instead of having to go through the seller again. Seller was petty, rude, and unprofessional. The last thing I wanted to do was reach back out to see if they refunded my order.
Buyers have as much, if not more agency than sellers. Etsy fails to see that. Etsy has thousands of shop owners (which are not regulated) and you need to have a proper method of escalating issues. Making incorrect or low-quality orders right should not be in the hand of sellers who value dollars over their customers.
I purchased a "vintage" dress for the first time on Etsy last week at Born to Shop Vintage. You will have a wonderful experience with the seller when you buy it, but not if you want to return it for half the price. The dress was labeled a "1930s glam dress." I was desperate to have something for an event so my mistake in not educating myself better. Dress could have come straight from Linda Evans on Dynasty-huge shoulder pads that if removed would have left tons of extra material to deal with. Could not use the dress, totally not appropriate and I asked if I could return it at a discounted price. I did not write within the two day time frame (two days-not so flexible after you have been involved with an event for 6 months). Seller was totally inflexible-wouldn't even consider taking it back at half the price. She could have made a double sale. Subsequent conversations certainly indicated she doesn't know fashion or dresses even though she has been selling for 30 years. To label this dress as "30s" style is just wrong. Talked about Art Deco which was part of architecture int he 30's, not fashion. It is the first and last time I will shop on Etsy. I think the shops are so small and sales so infrequent that they want to make a sale no matter what.
I opened my Etsy store, Vintage Vixen's Attic years ago. I had used the name in the early 1990s in some brick and mortar stores in NJ. Last week I got a email from the owner of Vintage Vixen Clothing complaining I was infringing on her trademark, which dates from what I saw from 2015, well after my usage began. She rudely claimed I had one week to change MY name. The 2 names are not the SAME, do not show up in the same google search of each name and no reviews have been posted claiming anyone has been confused between the 2 names. Her store has 4k listings, mine hd 30. Hers is a typical retail vintage store, where mine PLAINLY states mine is to sell off the estate of my aunt, who was a Broadway actress in the 1920's. Really, anyone confused here? When I told her that I felt her demand was out of line and wrong and refused, plus informed her that due to being elderly and dealing with an illness that I was closing my shop in 2 weeks at the end of the month, she insisted she had the right to demand I change it in a week. I refused, as this would make it impossible for my customers to find me. She decided to act like a bully and complain to Etsy. Etsy sent me a notice saying there had been a complaint and I had one week to change my shop name. Seems they don't care who is right, only who complains first. I asked their legal dept to look into this to insure this person had a valid claim and was told they do not do this and can't give any legal opinion, just act on the complaint regardless of merit. Guess when you are paying fees on 4k plus listings, you have a lot more rights then when you have 30.
This website is full of crap! My credit card was stolen and used to make unauthorized transactions. Not only did it take them a week to look into this, they also denied me of my refund and wouldnt tell my investigating officer the account holder bc of their "policy " but i feel once you commit fraud that should go out the window. Need i say i was informed that there was no way they could stop that transaction so with that being said. The person still gets to recieve the things they bought from my card. SO PEOPLE YOUR CREDIT CARDS ARENT SAFE HERE AND THERES NO PENALTY FOR SOMEONE WHO MAKES AN UNAUTHORIZED TRANSACTION WITH YOUR CARD. AND CREDIT CARD THIEVES THIS IS A PERFECT WEBSITE TO GO ON TO GET ANYTHING YOU DESIRE.
I am just glad that I have read other reviews before going any further with Etsy as a platform to expand my business and creating that dependency on them.
My experience- I just opened an account with Etsy and messaged some potential clients introducing our Business and the services that we offer.
After sending 5 odd messages Etsy blocked my messenger and restricted me from sending anymore messages. I initially thought it may just be their policy that doesnt allow more than 5 messages per day, hence tried again and the messenger is still blocked. Not sure what is Etsy are so insecure about?
After reading their unprofessional behavior towards other members who have been with them 3-5 yrs, I doubt their customer service will ever bother to address my query and hence I cant be bother either.
They promise to make a Bird fly by giving her wings and then tying off the wings just so that bird can only fly at Etsys will!
They want to dictate everything in your business, whom your business should and shouldnt be introduced and control it. For me personally, its like restricting my progression further.
Thanks to other members for their reviews, you have just saved me lot of time & energy that I could invest elsewhere to expand my business further. Never would never want to work with unprofessional ppl again!
I used to be addicted to ETSY, now I've had it. I had wonderful experieces until recently. I've had two horrible expereices where sellers take advantage and ETSY sides on the seller, not to buyer, whom makes them the money BTW! I've had it with that website and will not be on there again, NEVER!
I guess it was just a matter of time before I got scammed on Etsy the same as I did on Ebay. Especially when you buy used vintage electronics. The sellers pretend to know how to refurbish complex vintage electronics, but all they do is dust it off and power it on briefly. HOPE is not a good strategy. Just hoping that the (in my case a CD changer), item will work properly is not a good idea. The seller will swear it was working properly when they shipped it. Now instead of a CD changer all I have is a boat anchor. These crooked sellers will NOT refund you so don't ask. There should be a law against scammers like this.
If you want to buy vintage electronics, find established repair shops who also sell electronics like
Spencer at SPENCERTIFY.COM in Mesa Arizona. They are total HONEST experts and will stand behind their items 100%, including refund if that is what you want. They have a money back guarantee. They have lots of YouTube videos and you will learn a lot from them. They even have a showroom in their building. I have bought 2 CD changers from them and I am totally delighted with them and their excellent service. You will pay a little more for this excellence that they provide, but what do you want? You want an expensive boat anchor from crooks, or an item that you will be delighted with for years to come?
I am truly puzzled by all the negative reviews. What, you didn't know that you'd be paying customs fees on anything you import (buy from oversees)? Better educate yourself about your own country's laws an regulations then. Seller can provide proof of purchase but you still b! Tch about how they screwed you over? Well what do you know, customs office is authorized and hold your package for several weeks, also, stuff is occassionally lost in the mail. Not the sellers fault! If you ask them politely and contact them in a timely manner, surely they will try and work out a solution for you. In the end, if you run a small online business, all you have is your reputation.
As far as customer service goes, Etsy is a PLATFORM for handmade artists, who run their individual shops. They are rolling out their telephone hotline this year, 2014, to help remedy situations where something clearly goes wrong with the transaction.
I do feel truly sorry for those sellers who had their shops shut down without a warning.
As far as the website being difficult to navigate - absolute BS, Etsy has one of the cleanest and most comprehensive layouts. Policies/payment methods differing from shop to shop - well duuh! Once again people, it's a PLATFORM for individual sellers that exercise control over their own business and have their own policies. READ the shop policies and COMMUNICATE with the seller if there is any discrepancies in your addresses, etc. Your life will improve dramatically, I guarantee you.
The three things I ordered are beautiful and sturdy. The print has a very nice frame. I wasn't expecting such great products. The hat is perfect! I love the way the sewing on it turned out!
Etsy allows crooked sellers (I bought a t-shirt from BajilstoreID, was sent the wrong shirt but seller refused to exchange for what I actually ordered). Etsy customer service is a joke. They did NOTHING about a seller who is difficult (being kind) and will refuse to ever correct HER mistakes. Etsy did NOTHING in spite of a detailed description of what happened and photos of the shirt I ordered and what the seller sent who asked me to "please understand." Excuse me? WTF? Who does that when they make a mistake? AVOID ETSY and BAJOLSTOREID! Morons.
I WROTE A CHECK AS ETSY LETS AND ALLOWS PEOPLE TO WRITE CHECKS AND MAILED IT THIS WAS OCTOBER 2016 AND I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BABY IN 8 WEEKS WELL IT IS NOW APRIL AND STILL NOTHING LIKE REALLY?! ETSY SAY THEY CANT DO $#*!, MY BANK WONT DO $#*!, AND THE COURTS SAY SINCE IT WAS ONLINE THEY CANT DO $#*! SO I GUESS IM GONNA HAVE TO MAKE A 13 HOUR TRIP TO BEAT THE HELL OUT THIS LADY AND MAKE SURE ITS WOTH THE MONEY I SPENT ON BABY AND MAKE SURE ITS WORTH MY DRIVE ALL WAY DOWN THEY BECAUSE THIS $#*! WILL NOT GET AWAY WITH STEALING FROM MY $#*!! STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AND YOU CAN NOT CALL ETSY THEY HAVE A NUMBER BUT IT TELLS YOU TO EMAIL BASICALLY AND HANGS UP LMAO SO I HAVE TO WAIT WEEKS FOR THEM TO RESPOND AND HEAR THEM SAY WE CANT HELP SORRY! LIKE $#*! U I WILL HELP MYSELF TO HER DAMN DOOR
You may want to check-out Storemate.com and artfire.com as good alternatives.
If you want something different try out storemate.com, I registered on storemate.com and seen some sharp increase in the traffice directed to my website.
Unlike easy and artfire they are not restricted to handmade, I get to promote to a bigger audience (all design buffs).
The best about storemate is, I get to help out my customers in real-time using their 'Talk-About' feature. Helping out with questions on custom options, shipping queries etc in realtime.
I even passed on exclusive discounts to them during these help-out sessions, which turned casual enquiries into quick sales and followers for me.
I have been Storemate's "Featured Designer" for 3 weeks, straight! ( My proud moment!): D

Terrible site. The Etsy support team SUCKS. My shop was suspended for inaccurate/false reasons since DECEMBER 2014 and they will not write back to my emails. They ignore me on *******@Etsyhelp. NO HELP AT ALL. You cannot be a business owner or be successful with this site if all they do is close real handmade shops and keep the mass product shops up. The Etsy admins have the power over artisans that have a shop on the site. They promote about becoming entrepreneurs and building your own business. But how can any of us do that if there is no help? We spent a lot of time, money and dedication to our shops and for them to just go around and shut stores down for false reasons they will not take accountable for is just heart breaking. These Etsy Admins have the power to destroy or help build our future, our lives are based on there decisions to have us live our dream.
You can go to the office in brooklyn and they will lie to you and tell you they can't help you there when you SEE the admins walking in.
Answer: Check the reviews, and Google the seller. Also, are the reviews written in good english? Does it seem fake? Check pictures from the buyers.
Answer: I would have to say no, with LOTS of exceptions. In the past few years Etsy has allowed business to claim handmade if it meets certain criteria. I often see many items that claim to be handmade but I have seen them on Alibaba being sold in bulk. That being said I look very closely and have purchased some wonderfu items from great sellers. The biggest problem with Etsy is that they no longer protect customers from fraud (they say they are not liable) but in doing that lots and lots or resellers and counterfeit items have saturated Etsy' s marketplace. I would never buy anything "vintage" there. What I have seen you are getting thrift store rejects or modern fake. Buyer beware! Investigate all vendors carefully!
Answer: I am agree with Ramina. 90% is not hand made. All comes from Factories. When someone has over 8000's item don't you ask who made it. They are all over from Pakistan to turkey east to west up united state. Etsy is happy just to take your money and every 4 or 5 months closing one store to show off and if you have some money as a credit they take it too. No customer service, no respect no manor, they made policy just for FUN and they have FUN with our pocket. Stay far from them FAR FAR.
Answer: I agree with Steve J on this one. A lot of sellers on Etsy work from home in the evenings for extra money. Most of them are not big businesses with massive inventories so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Give them a little more time and if they dont send it out then file a case with etsy
Answer: Business checking isn't necessary (the banks now charge a monthly fee for a small business checking). You can pretty much set up a regular checking account
Answer: I believe this depends on each seller. Etsy is simply a platform for sellers, and often does not have any direct involvement with orders short of processing the payment. Certain items cannot be returned for safety and hygiene reasons, and sellers can refuse to do anything other than exchange. Contacting Etsy may or may not change the results.
Answer: If you do, I would be cautious about ordering from international sellers, use a credit card in case you need to contest the charges, and do NOT expect ETSY do a thing if you get ripped off. They are useless and could care less once the sale is final.
Answer: I have bought a number of items through Etsy and with great success. I had only one negative experience and Etsy took are of that. I recommend Etsy wholeheartedly.
Answer: The best and quickest thing to do is to email the seller and let them know that you would like to return for a refund.
Etsy has a rating of 1.6 stars from 1,568 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Etsy most frequently mention customer service, credit card and phone number. Etsy ranks 586th among Marketplace sites.
