The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

I have Been using this site since it started and mostly have got good deals with a variety of things I like
Bought dining chairs at a great price and. In new condition. Couldn't be happier with our choice. A lot better than trying going to and from stores to find a deal. Good hunting
EBTH is one of those start-ups with pretty big growing pains. But, they seem to be doing better now (mid 2018) than before thanks to the new CEO. No, I do NOT work at/for the company; I've just been watching it for the past 18 months. It is changing, and for the better. Give it some more time.
I won 2 auctions on July 19th. Since then, crickets. It's been 15 business days and my shipping is still "preparing". No communication from the seller. I will file a complaint with FTC and I'll contact my bank.
I used EBTH for several sales while downsizing. The stress of downsizing was virtually eliminated. They took care of everything in a most professional accommodating manner saving my sanity! The team communicates extremely well. I would recommend them highly to anyone downsizing which could be a daunting experience to tackle on one's own.
We are longtime fans of EBTH! Not only to buy many items from silver and turquoise jewelry to oil painting and furniture! We were lucky enough to live close to the DALLAS warehouse so it was great for getting the larger items.
When it was time to downsize and move out of state, we used used your skilled and excellent staff to help sell a lot of our things. It was a fantastic experience and I cannot recommend you highly enough!
We wish now you would open a Phoenix location!
I bid on and won an oil painting that I saw and wanted for my husband. I won. I was charged. Weeks went by and no picture. After asking, I am now told the picture was somehow lost in their warehouse and the customer service staff would not connect me with a supervisor. I'm very upset by this. Was it because someone decided it was valuable, or did it ever exist? Waste of time and effort. Very sad.
Great website, excellent customer service. Will continue purchasing at EBTH
Items always well packaged
I recently attended an event at the Columbus (Ohio) Museum of Art which featured EBTH. The main speaker from EBTH Cincinnati was very good and interesting. However, when attendees were able to bring up our vintage and antique items for a quick appraisal, a manager from the Columbus office laid a large, old medical chart on top of my item. A significant amount of black dust and stain came off of the chart and onto my Popeye doll from the 1950s. The doll was in Very Good condition but now has black staining on its clothing which is not coming off.
While the manager did apologize to me, he only did so after prompting and when he became aware other people had seen what happened. He certainly did not sound or appear apologetic in any way. His only response was that he could look up the value of my item on his computer after he finished with the medical chart. I definitely had the impression he viewed me and the Popeye as unimportant.
I understand my item isn't worth thousands of dollars. But it was something I had planned to sell and it's value has been significantly decreased by the careless mishandling by EBTH staff.
Our names, phone numbers, and objects for review were recorded so I waited a day to post this review to see if I would perhaps receive an apology call of some type. I did not.
I had previously recommended EBTH multiple times especially to people who had high quality items they wished to see as part of downsizing to move to a retirement community. I will now only be recommending other online auction companies and sites.
RIPOFF WARNING (or confessions of a trusting soul} I have had a bit of fun the past few months bidding at online auction house, EBTH. Everything But The House. Ive had a couple questionable experiences. Items bought for incredibly low prices have disappeared from the warehouse and the sale was cancelled to my great disappointment and items arriving damaged, etc. that Ive overlooked. In those cases I was refunded. But the latest snafu is the limit. I bid and won a strand of black pearls that on receipt, are truly hideous. Not only are they too damaged/marked to be worn, I doubt they could be used for marbles in a kids game. There are globs of some plasticy substance on them. The company maintains the condition is as described and that markings on pearls are a natural occurrence and dont need to be mentioned, and Im stuck. I wont tell you how much Im out, but suffice to say, I am embarrassed. They maintain they sell estate items, and many things are. But some items have never seen the inside of a retail store, much less someones jewelry box. Dont be a sucker like me. PLEASE. I read other reviews of the same type of shady behavior online AFTER my experience. Heads up, yall.
EBTH turned themselves inside out to get my two very expensive jewelry purchases (($1200) to me before I left on my month long trip. They had to go into the house a week before the sale of items from that house was ended, pull the two pieces of jewelry, and ship them by expedited delivery instead of the 7-10 days they quote.
I am very happy, and very impressed!
I have had excellent service both from buying and selling and when something has come from a purchase damaged or not what it said they have compensated me. There was one purchase I never received and was compensated for that also. I think of them first when looking for something special.
Their website is easy to use, I was kept informed of developments. After my purchase, when I had questions the staff was friendly, accessible, and accommodating of my needs.
Not only did we receive an incredible deal but the customer service representative that we dealt with answered our many questions (and we had many) about the whole process. Finally the shippers they used were superb and our items arrived in excellent condition!
I won a lot of antique vases including a particular rare find. I didnt receive any updates and eventually it turned out they misplaced the lot. Lost in a huge warehouse apparently. I did get a refund but that is not what I wanted.
I have now purchased multiple items of artwork on this site and have been just as happy with everyone of them. They have been exactly as described and pictured on the website, and shipment has been timely. Their shipping department clearly makes every effort in terms of wrapping and packaging to ensure the pieces arrive safely. I had an inquiry about one piece before it arrived, and the customer service was fast and professional.
I just received my first purchase--an original oil on canvas board roughly 18" x 13". The painting was packaged with care with sufficient bubble wrap and fill material in the box to protect it during shipping. Shipping cost was as estimated at the time of bidding. The painting itself was exactly as represented in the text and in the photograph. I am very pleased with this purchase!
I won an item from an auction in EBTH. When I received it, I found this item was damaged severely. In its condition report, EBTH put single word "Good". I contacted their customer service, they refused to refund me. They said the item images showed the damages. Actually, buyers were absolutely unable to see the damages from images because the broken portions were glued back in same color. Obviously, EBTH knew the damages, but still used Good to mislead buyer rather than described the damages.
I thought I am the solo victim of such a business conduct. After I read some reviews on EBTH from SiteJabber and Yelp, it is concluded that this behavior is a true reflection of EBTH business philosophy and practice. Like some other victims, I spent thousands of dollars to buy items from EBTH in past years. This damaged item cost only over one hundreds. They prefer losing customers rather than keeping you. How horrible and stupid is EBTH management team and customer service team.
In April 12,2018, EBTH laid off 212 employees. That's 30 percent of the company's local staff. Worse business practices and customer services are expected after the layoff. So, PLEASE DON'T DO business with EBTH unless you don't care your money are robbed by the bad business.
If you have the same situation as mine, here are the tips:
1. Call your credit card company to issue a dispute as soon as possible;
2. File complaints to BBB and Ohio Attorney General office;
3. Post your review wherever to share your bad experience with others.
Dont do business with these people. They are impossible to get any information out of and very rigid. I totally got ripped off on chairs that were not described properly after trying to reach them for information I do a lot of Internet purchases and this is the worst experience I have ever had
Take care when identifying the object you are bidding on. The auction site cannot be "all knowing" any more than a live auctioneer can be an expert on all types of glassware, pottery or antiques. You must use your own expertise and research as you are bidding and assume the ultimate responsibility. I have been very pleased with the items I have purchased although one item was lost and never received and 1 purchase delivery was delayed to the point I was afraid it was also lost. This is a fabulous way to have an eye on items across the nation that I otherwise would never have seen nor had a chance to bid on or to own. Most of the items I have purchased have been delicate in nature (glassware) and I have had no damage whatsoever!
Photos Make Jewelry Look Substantial but sadly when you receive you find that is not the case. I purchased a garnet ring that looked online to be suitable for a grown women to wear but when it arrived, it was so incredibly small. It looked like something a 12 year old girl would wear. I called in to Customer Service and they politely told me that their descriptions were accurate which I am sure they were but that basically I am stuck with the ring because unlike eBay where most sellers offer returns or make it plan if they don't, EBTH is a "as is - where is" site and once you buy, you keep. I am not alleging that their description was inaccurate. I am saying their photos make jewelry look to a layman (who doesn't know how big or in this case small a 6mm garnet really is) like it is more than it is. I suggested to Customer Service that they might want to photograph a ring on a woman's hand to show true size. Not sure if that will make it's way up the food chain or if they are interested in a more proper representation or not. I certainly would NEVER had paid $90 for this tiny little ring. Had it been photographed on a woman's hand, I would have known what I was considering and passed. I understand this is the perils of shopping on line. Again, ebay is the better site since most ebay sellers offer refunds. If you don't like or something doesn't live up to expectations, you can return for refund.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
