The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with some customers praising the quality of unique items and positive experiences with customer service. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns, including inflated shipping costs, poor communication, and issues with product authenticity. Many customers report dissatisfaction with the handling of returns and complaints, often facing unresponsive support. Overall, while there are pockets of positive feedback, the prevailing sentiment suggests a decline in service quality and transparency, leading to frustration among long-time users and potential legal actions from dissatisfied customers.

Love everything I have purchased. I'm a designer and recommend ETBH to clients, friends, and relatives. I'm addicted to ETBH.
Have purchased many pieces from EBTH.
Recently won a Frank Lloyd Wright piece for $350.00. Arrived in a cardboard sleeve with no packing material. Needless to say it arrived in 5 pieces. I complied with all requests from claims department. I was assured that it would be taken care of. Nothing! It's been weeks.
Never again. I feel scammed! (and out $350.00)
Purchased lithograph framed and under glass listed as good condition with no other details in the listing. When picked up 1/3 of lithograph had creases and obviously not in good condition. When we contacted EBTH and sent photos. Their resolution was telling us that this was normal and tear. Have purchased hundreds of lithographs over many years and this was not normal wear and tear. We will never be buying from EBTH again.
My experiences with auction have been very good. Shipping is high but items are generally well packed and items arrive in timely manner.
I purchased two sports memorabilia items that described that they were JSA authenticated by auction house letter. I found out when receiving the letters that they were only good for 45 days after the auction ended and I would have to pay $50 extra per item for permanent authentication. That should have been included in the description. I felt like they could have been more clear about the process I would have to go through to obtain actual JSA authentication. Watch out for that. Emailed customer support and they said I could not return the items because it states they are sending me JSA authentication via Auction House Authentication. I had no idea it only lasts 45 days...
Be cautious: my 2nd problem in 6 months. First was a broken item. They finally fessed up and paid. So that was good. But their website leaves a lot of questions with NO answers. When you purchase something check your bid and your information CAREFULLY because at times they must do an autofill. And it is always wrong. Shipping is expensive and so is losing (not quite but still unknown circumstances) an item. Finding a phone number is impossible on their site. JUST NOT USER FRIENDLY
I love EBTH, I have purchased many fine things like, sofas, armoires, tv cabinets, patio sets, diamond ring, cameo ring lots of vintage bee sting crocks! W picked up almost everything, except a few pieces a nice gold jewelry which we received by Fedex I have no complaint about EBTH. I have always remarked how they keep you posted about the items you are bidding on and also about pick up details and shipments!
Thanks,
Paula Hamilton
Do not buy anything from this site. Once you buy something and pay for it, you get dragged along an endless process where shipping never happens and you don't get what you've already paid for. It's either a way to steal things from people or simply very disorganized and crappy service.
Everything But The House is a fantastic online auction house. Their standards are set high, which I appreciate, seeing that I am considering their service to liquidate some of my merchandise (I own TOO MUCH STUFF). The prices they command for you are REAL, not estimates from books or magazines. Kovel's and other publications give you "estimated values", but they do not provide you with a buyer. EBTH makes it REAL, nothing hidden or misinterpreted! I love this site--for purchasing, and soon... for auctioning some of my estate. Keep up the INCREDIBLE WORK.:-)
All items are detailed and photographed. The staff is incredibly helpful and quick to answer. I have never been disappointed when I use this auction site in both my personal and professional uses.
I have bought several items but this item they refuse to have my item delivered to the FFL I have given them the info to. I want my item or my money back and I am not being responded to. I'm very unhappy!
I thought I hit the jack pot when I first discovered this website. I was literally on it everyday, placing offers or watching various items to see if I should place one. It wasn't until I won my latest item and waited over a month since beginning of September (still have not received the item), that I thought to look up the reviews on this company. Apparently they have a reputation and as soon as I get my long awaited item, I am going to delete their app on my phone and no longer buy from them. They are terrible at communicating. Apparently, the item I won was in a warehouse that was damaged and then had to be relocated and they weren't even sure where it was when I called them a month later. I spoke to two different reps, each one assured me they would be in touch. Yet neither followed up. They seemed surprised and annoyed that I was even bothering them with this. I think it's fair for a customer to expect some sort of communication about their purchase and if they're ever even going to get it. I recently checked the status of the item online and it says its out for shipping (not that the customer service rep ever checked in to let me know this, although they said they would!). In any case, I'm nervous I'll received the fragile items damaged since they were in multiple warehouses etc...
If anything I'll dispute the charges with my bank if this company is too shady to deal with it ethically. They definitely lost a customer.
They are always concerned with details... pack items perfectly... easy site access... so many items to entice your spirit of decorating... so far excellent experiences... thank you. Most of all I love the fact they send a thank you card with every purchase... this way I can write on the back what it is and when I purchased it for future reference.
When we decided to leave the suburbs and move back to the city, we considered all the alternatives to disposing of the antiques, art, and other collectibles we had accumulated. We knew the two-day weekend estate sale was not right for us when they told us that anything leftover on Monday was our problem. On the other hand, EBTH told us to take what we wanted to our new place and they would handle the rest. And they did! They were wonderful to work with and knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects. They also helped us realize far greater value from their online auction than we would have in a traditional estate sale.
So for my review I've had smaller items shipped to my house, I've gone to a warehouse to pick up items, and I've picked up items directly at a seller's residence. I once had a large piece delivered locally which was probably the least user friendly experience mainly because 1. It took so long and 2. They only notified me the day of that they were going to bring the piece. So they left the large furniture item on my front porch, thankfully it was a covered porch.
Picking up items at a seller's home has been the easiest although generally I've only purchased items I could carry out on my own and that could fit in my car. Keep in mind if you're doing this the staffing at these sales are minimal and you're expected to carry out your own stuff or bring your own help. Also once I bought several glasses, you need to bring your own boxes/packing items just FYI they don't provide this either. Once I picked up at a warehouse where there was a surcharge for picking up these items, these weren't particularly user friendly either since the signage at these pick-ups weren't very clear, and I had to walk a fair distance in the warehouse to pick up my item. Although they were small furniture items it was still a bit of a trek carrying something a bit cumbersome. Also if there is a pick up surcharge generally the charge is applied to each item won so be sure you read the fine print when bidding.
Some items I've had shipped and again its been mixed results. For fragile items such as glass there have been two instances where some damage has occurred. Thankfully for one of the items the outside of the box was partially torn when I got home, so I did take pictures of the outside of the box. Once I opened the box several items were damaged inside which I was sure to take pictures of those items as well. I was expecting a pro-rated refund of the shipping of just the damaged items, but they refunded the entire shipping costs. Although I was still a bit disappointed given the poor packing of this particular purchase. Other fragile items have arrived no problem so its been a mixed bag.
Happy with my purchases, accurate and helpful in every way. You can track your purchases shipped to your home. The bid alerts let you know if you are outbid and how to proceed.
Ebth rep came out, showed me great results from previous sales of the high end furniture that I was considering to auction. Decided to go with them. They picked it up and posted it, I didn't like the description so I called and they did nothing about changing the description, sale went through at miserably low price. I felt like I had been duped. I questioned rep about previous sales, he said they were legit but I know that websites or the info given to sales reps can fabricated. I would have rather given the furniture away and taken the tax write off or used it for firewood.
Very professional service. A great alternative if you want to sell important items. No hassle with buyers, shipping, collecting the money, etc...
Everyone I dealt with was courteous and professional. Their assessment of what would and probably would not sell was very helpful. The process was way easier than I anticipated. I am pleased with my experience.
Answer: I am just got through selling items through EBTH, and it has been the worst experience I have ever had. They grouped many expensive items together because they thought it was in the best interest of the company not the seller. I am also currently seeking legal council to potentially file suit against the company for fraudulent business practices. They didn't even give me a copy of their so called "contract", that I had to sign and send in with my items, until there was only 1 hour left in my sale. They left out the most expensive pieces I sent in and didn't sell them at all, didn't find out why until sale was over. As if all this weren't enough, they took real diamonds from the items I sent in to sell and replaced them with "white sapphires". So needless to say, they're probably about to get hit with a heavy lawsuit!
Answer: I have filed with the BBB and IC3 for internet fraud, and I am writing the Attorney General of Ohio. These guys make the used car salesman of the 60's look like saints. The products are marginal, and the service i mean customer service is non-existent. I also filed a fraud case with my bank, because for 3 week I got the run-around about them shipping the item, I never got it, and they said they couldn't return my money. Not true! In the United States, keeping the money and keeping the merchandise is illegal. Don't let the technology and glam of the website fool you, they are deceptive, dishonest, and you get the 'EVERYTHING BUT WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
Answer: Just to let you know ebth customers and consignors are dropping like flies. The arrogant company just terminated nearly 300 employees and closed markets in many states. That means its not growing, its failing.
Answer: I've not sold with them and never would. I've read the responses from people who sold items with these people and if you would like to be ripped off, then by all means go ahead. You'd fair much better by locating an auction house in your area. My experience with this particular bunch of thieves is on the buying end. Photos do not show the big picture, if there is a flaw in any item it will not be in the description and most certainly will not be photographed. The exorbitant shipping charges are insane. I'm not sure if as a seller you would see any profit from shipping, my guess is it goes right into their pockets. This is a very dishonest bunch from top to bottom. Please find a reputable dealer to sell you cherished items, I cannot stress this enough.
Answer: I bid on a pair of Swarovski Crystal Penguins. I was unaware that the larger Penguin was supposed to have a "tail" at the back. It's difficult to see with the cutting of the crystal so I only noticed it when I saw another like item and it had the tail. I closely inspected and can see what I thought was a cut in the crystal is really not smooth and is where the tail should be. The item was delivered on May 12. I put in a claim on July 2 and the company is standing on their 30 day return policy even though they listed as good condition and it was not broken in the box, I've spent thousands of dollars at their site and probably would have continued. The customer service individual refused to let me speak to a manager and just kept repeating the same thing. Now for 134 dollars, I am done with ever buying another thing. Not a good way to run a business. If they are going out... it's no wonder.
