Complicated - not intuitive. Installed the trial version and 5 days later receive a phishing email with a false report title. Have removed from my computer.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I was offered a free 30 day trial. Did not like the app & tried to cancel immediately problem was NO OPTION TO UNSUBSCRIBE. I contacted Dropbox a total waste of time. They send instructions that again have NO OPTION to unsubscribe. I called ITunes followed their instructions, And NO OPTION TO UNSUBSCRIBE. I've been trying for a month now... STAY FAR FAR AWAY from this app!
I was a happy and PAYING dropbox customer until they suddenly, without warning or explanation, suspended my account. I contacted customer service via e-mail (of course, even paying customers don't get access to telephone support or live chat), and received a response the next day from a first-level technician who indicated he had no idea what was wrong with my account and hadn't bothered to read my original e-mail. After I pointed out I had already tried what he suggested, he told me he was forwarding me to "account security." That was a week ago. Despite several follow-up messages inquiring about the status of this issue, I received no response, and of course I'm still locked out of my account, which means I can't access a service I am paying for. Of course, they've disregarded my requests to stop charging my credit card, but based on what I am reading here I will ask my bank to stop authorizing their transactions.
I have honestly never seen such poor customer service for a paying internet service. How they have gotten to where they are is beyond me. Stay away. I am changing asap to Google Drive, which at least offers its customers live chat.
Free network shared folders with ability to co-own or just read items in the folders with other users. Co-owners (who can add to, edit, delete) of folders have to install dropbox, linked users (read only) do not have to install dropbox.
Got a recommendation from a high school principal to use this when we were writing a school based handbook that was too large to pass through the school's email filter. Amazingly easy to use!
I LOVE the ability to co-own (share) a folder so everyone can edit documents or to give people read-only access (link) to documents and pictures. This is perfect for the various groups I belong to where we need to co-author or co-edit meeting minutes, fliers and spreadsheets. Also allows people to read-only folder contents so everyone has access to pictures, rules & regs, by laws.
Dropbox has lessened the need for group email with attachments -- we don't have to send out, receive and edit, re-send, edit again, resend, etc. Easy to use once you speak the share-link terminology. Lots of free space and your space is increased as you share-link to other users.
One drawback -- I'd like the ability to share with others so they can read and edit but not allow them to delete anything! Still, 100% recommend dropbox!
If you go to Drop box to get help... Well good luck. The only people that will talk to you are sales. Be crystal clears sales can't help you so that is the end of the story. If you sign up and give them money you are AT HOSTAGE UNTIL YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO FIND A WAY TO GET OUT OF IT. Customer service number? No luck, and their tech support... well if you reach them they say " wrong number". NOT COOL
I was scammed too. Dirty thieves. What a business model. Hook people and then charge them and say, "sorry we don't do refunds." I'd like to dropkick...
Following the 2012 data breach, I followed advice and added 2FA to my personal account - even though it's mostly photos of things like the deceased pet that got out of the fence, and personal notes - mainly just photos and stuff because android doesn't back up to iCloud and since I swap between them when I upgrade it was an easy way to get out of the ecosystem lock in.
Anyhow, I wasn't aware at the time that Dropbox evidently has zero backup system in place in case you lose access to that phone number beyond the "emergency backup code". I'll admit, I could have found a better place to stow it (I'm assuming I had one, as I don't actually remember getting one) so that years down the road in the off chance it became relevant I could use it. But I didn't. So now, 5+ years of photos and data are just gone. Poof. Well, not gone. I just can't have them. I know my password. But I don't have that number. Dropbox is super sorry, but I'm just screwed. But they'll totally transfer over the bonus storage. Because obviously that's what I need. Extra space for all the data I don't have and won't be backing up to their service anymore.
I think in these days where sustainability, inclusion, recycling and climate problems dominate, the client should be supported in keeping a computer as long as possible.
When organisations like Dropbox (or Adobe, or Apple) limit their systems, and force users into a new operatingsystem since the desktopapp of Dropbox otherwise won't work, they exclude a large number of people on this planet. They cannot use the app on their outdated systems. They force their clients to eventually buy new computers when it's no longer possible to upgrade the operating system.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE TO CONSIDER TO ACTUALLY BUY A NEW COMPUTER BECAUSE OF THE DROPBOX APP!
(A yeah, Dropbox says 'but you can still sync the files'….sorry but the app is needed for saving and opening files! It's my work that's affected!)
Dropbox is not user friendly anymore.
So, I am truly shocked that Dropbox is not investing in several solutions or offers 'older' apps for different operating systems.
Dropbox could and should be an example in contributing to sustainability, inclusion, recycling and climate problems and use this to promote their company as well.
I have read the reviews and know the pros and cons of this service. Now for my thoughts.
1. Use the free version. Too many stories about billing problems here. Sure people are more inclined to write when there are problems, but there should not be so many stories here. One is too many and any more than that is crazy.
2. Do not store anything you can't get back. They don't sound very trustworthy. I would not risk it.
3. Careful with shared materials. I shared some ebooks for business years ago and somehow got a notice to unshare that particular folder. I don't know who's looking at my data, but what I do with it is my business. Especially when it has to do with MY business. Have not had that problem with Box, Google, or even OneDrive. And I trust MS less than anyone!
4. Be careful with ALL cloud services. There is no protection like your own, so back up EVERYTHING and TRUST NO ONE.
Using Dropbox to share innocuous docs with coworkers and friends is ok, but do not swear by it or come to count on it. From one Certified Ethical Hacker to everyone else.
Love dropbox to death. Their iphone app is even more special. Both the site and the app allow me to share files with my family with lots of ease. The UI is very easy to use. Thank you dropbox.
I got locked out of my account due to 2-factor authentication. I don't have any device connected to my dropbox account and I don't own the phone number on my account.
Because of this I can't access my own files and my information is lost forever.
I will not trust this company again. Their account recover policy is bad compared to other business. DON'T USE 2-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION as you can shoot yourself in the foot and Dropbox will not help you to recover the account.
I started using GOOGLE DRIVE and I'll not do business with Dropbox anymore.
I have had a personal paid dropbox account for years. I rarely ever log in to the web version. One super annoying thing is the ease in which you can move folders without meaning to and then the next time you go to dropbox everything is missing. Requires you to login to web and see your activity. Then find that 20,000 files and dozens of folders were accidentally moved to some super obscure folder without intending to. I have had google and MS folders for many more years than dropbox and never once has that happened. I asked dropbox to make this accidental folder moving more difficult a few years ago, but since it just happened again, apparently they don't think it's an issue. You used to be able to talk to customer support but no longer. It's frightening to open dropbox and to see a whole huge body of work, years of work and files, simply vanished. OK they are't permanently gone (not yet anyway) but still I never asked to move that folder (containing thousands of files and subfolders) to that obscure totally unrelated folder, so it shouldn't have happened.
NO WAY TO CANCEL THEY GET YOUR CREDIT CARD AND THEN THEY CHARGE AWAY! How can this be LEGIT! I CLICKED ON THE FREE BUISNESS TRIAL WITHOUT READING REVIEWS you would think they would be a LEGIT COMPANY! SCAM SCAM SCAM AND NO ONE TO TALK TO NO CUSTOMER SERVICE WILL SOMEONE PLEASE SUE THEM!
They bait and switch you and charge you and then you cannot get your refund within the "30 day free trial" they promise you and only remedy is call your credit card company to dispute charges...
I'm pretty satisfied with their service and easy to understand. Thank you so much for this great service. Highly recommended all of you use this service. I'm pretty sure you also love this service.
Only needed it to save voicemails from phone before switching to new SIM card. Phone provider suggested it - but it is horrible. You have to save each voice mail individually - AND ENTER THE PERSON WHO SENT IT, THE PHONE NUMBER, THE DATE AND TIME! For each of several hundred voicemails I need to save. This will take about 50 hours of my time. Horrible design.
Great cloud service for using to pass files among your presonal devices or store some photos/music for the same purpose. Nothing to complain on for me.
Stay away. Do not give them your credit card number as they will hit you for $450 unauthorized charge. No telephone contact. Very suspicious operation.
User beware. If you're sharing with anybody, don't waste a second of your time on this garbage. Lost client files, can't share, errors, etc. PURE TRASH!
UPDATE: File structure and page organization is better and more organized and a little more ergonomic. Glad they're trying. Still slow though. I'm updating my review from 1 to 3 stars.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: This webpage is NOT ergonomic at all. I JUST WANT TO MOVE, DOWNLOAD, UPLOAD AND DELETE FILES. The interface is CLUNKY, SLOW, AND NOT ERGONOMIC AT ALL.
For instance, if I want to simply delete or download a file, the buttons should be RIGHT THERE. Not tucked up in some menu all the way to the right or where ever. Also different folder views for the same files DRIVE ME NUTS. MAKE ONE VIEW: "My Files" which includes ALL FILES IN THE FOLDER STRUCTURE YOU WANT. Terrible. Presently looking for something better. Disgraceful.
Answer: TRUE THEY SCAMMED ME TOO!
Answer: SCAMMERS!
Answer: I hope there is a class action suit and I will join it.
Answer: Dropbox customer support will soft talk you into thinking they are helping to put a stop to their fraudulent charges, but in the end they actually do nothing. I don't believe they have an in-house system to stop credit card charges. There are many crooked companies that do business this same way as well. How many people don't read their credit card statement in full every month? And the dropbox folks rake in the fraudulent charges people don't catch. Call them, and they say "we're sorry" it won't happen again. I went through that three times and finally had to re-issue my card with a new number. Shown is a canned text statement below sent to people with billing problems: >"I will need all of the following information for security reasons and to locate the charge to assist you:"< > Card type First six digits of the card Last four digits of the card Full name on the credit card charged Date of charge Amount charged Billing postal code< "Dear Dropbox, If I spent the same amount of time, it takes to cancel a CC looking at the thousands of negative online reviews before I bought Dropbox I would be well ahead of the game. I added my negative review of dropbox to the many already online after I changed the CC number on my Visa, of course. And no, I will not give you any more cc numbers or names. Dropbox has a worldwide reputation of continuous charges once they get your number. Did you think I just fell off the turnip truck? LOL Goodbye Forever,"
Answer: I was unsuccessful as well. I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card. It is still being investigated. My wife was successful in getting a refund on a new account that she never used, within 7 days of paying. She is the only one I know of that has done that successfully.
Dropbox has a rating of 1.9 stars from 210 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Dropbox most frequently mention credit card, customer service and free trial. Dropbox ranks 109th among Online Storage sites.
