“Trying to cancel service after a catastrophic fire”

Our family have been loyal DISH network customers for 17 continuous years and have had great service. However in January 2023 we had a catastrophic fire and our entire home was a total loss. One week after the fire I called to notify DISH that we needed to cancel our service as we had moved into a condo that had an HOA that required us to take another competing service. At that time Donna, the customer rep told me we had signed a contract and she could only pause our service for 9 months but that we would still owe on our original contract for an additional one more year even though we would have no services. She kept me on the line for almost 40 minutes professing that she could offer us no other options. I then called the local DISH contractor in our city and he told me that there is a catastrophic clause for customers like us. Thankfully when I called back 2 weeks later I was referred to Jennifer who is a Senior Resolution Specialist at DISH. She was so kind and very knowledgeable in all of the contract issues dealing with our situation. In a matter of a few minutes she had canceled our equipment fees, disconnected our account and made arrangements to refund our monthly DISH fees that were continuing through autopay. If I had not had the pleasure of talking to Jennifer I would have given DISH a review of 1, but because of Jennifer they get a 4 in honor of her honesty and professionalism. Thank you. Laura. S

Finally after dealing with for 2 yrs I canceled the service. I never had all the channels I was paying for more than 90 days in a row with out an issue. Their equipment must suck that bad as they have been to my residents 9 times in 24 months to replace or fix something. Customer service is only worried about keeping you in the money out and took entirely too long to get the service canceled. Do t waist your money or time. Like seriously how are they still in business?

I think dish network should be shut down for good there are movie app on the internet that allows you to watch movies straight out of the theater that's free and I am 39 years old and there's movies on are $3.99 to rent for 24hours and they were made before I was born why is that I am not happy with the movie selection I just switched to dish network and I am not paying my next month's bill just because dish is a rip off

I received a notice that my bill was passed due and it was $486 so I looked through my account to see what was going on with my billing and found 17 pay-per-view events that no one in this household purchased the lowest one was 499 the most expensive was 85.99 for a grand total of $410 in pay-per-view purchases that apparently a ghost purchased in my house. So of course I called customer service one was rude supposed to transfer me to a supervisor who after talking to for 3 minutes hung up on me. The third time I got a hold of a resolution specialist who actually spoke English and she turned out to be the best customer service rep I had talked to yet. Money for that I am being refunded $240 and she helped me set up a parental passcode so that this would never happen again. I know for a fact that no one in this house both of my parents which are in their mid 80s did not order any of this so we will see what happens now with the passcode. Yes their customer service is a joke but I didn't have to wait long I was given a call back and this is cheaper than the cable company in my area I get a good bang for my buck so long as I'm not getting ripped off by a ghost. Also my reception no problems.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with this company.

Dish Network had a promo to switch from Directv and they will give me 3 $300 debit mastercard. On top of having bad service I also called them almost every month for 8 months asking where's a my gift card and they all play games with you. Worst company in USA.

Called Dish after being on hold with DirectTV for almost an hour. Spoke with Dish rep within four minutes and had installation next afternoon. Michael, the installer was fast, polite and concerned about our satisfaction. Great followup and service!

I was a customer of dish network for over 15 years my bill was getting so high, i called and discussed it with a manager at dish, and they were rude and not willing to help lower my bill, unless i gave up all my channels i watched. I told them i would cancel my service if they couldn't help me keep my channels and lower my bill. She was content with me to cancel and so i did. Sad after si many years they would not work with me.

It's been six months now, and I have nothing but great things to say about the Dish network. I love the Hopper and Joey units, and particularly like that I can record hundreds and hundreds of hours of TV shows on my DVR with a great looking picture!

Tip for consumers:
With a good credit rating, you may qualify for a couple hundred dollar digital master card as a reward for signing up!

After several months of bad service and several tech visits, never worked correctly. Was told by one supervisor that due to several issues and tech visits wouldn't be charged disconnect fee and would put in notes. When called to disconnect said would be charged $420. No supervisor would help and said still be charges. Too many tech visits and lies told by reps. Don't believe what they say, and best Don't Get Dish Network

Just wanted to thank DISH for letting me pay $15 over the past 15 years for garbage! Terrible network choices and constantly fighting with a local TV networks.
If you like to watch repeats of Shooter, Harry Potter, Forrest Gump, and infomercials feel free to pay these turkeys $130 a month.
Absolute garbage.

I called because my monthly charge jumped from $107.43 to $137.23. No problem the "customer service" representative said. I can take care of that for you. If you pay today, your charge will be $107.43. From now on. Here is the confirmation number. The amount charged to me was $137.23. Calling customer service is an exercise in futility. They HANG UP on you. They redirect you to outer space. THET LIE, LIE, LIE. If I could give them a ZERO I would.

This has been very disappointing. I live in Iowa and we a fair amount of snow. Despite telling the installer that the spot he chose was where water and snow collects in the winter, he installed it. He said that was the only spot he could get a signal. I've now had two service outages. One for water, now one for snow. They insist that if I cancel they will charge me $200! I'm tired of the frequent outages. But I have no chose as I can't afford to pay$200. Guess what DISH it snows in Iowa Dah! Your product doesn't work for me! I should not be penalized because you gave a poor product! My advise-don't even try them out!

I had to leave dish because of a disability, they charged me 200$ cut off fee which I understand and that's ok but $35 for a cardboard box to return the dish receiver is ridiculous. On top of that they set up a payment arrangement with me and after my first payment they sent it to collections. I've never been late on a payment anywhere and have nothing in collections until dish sent this cut off fee and box fee to collections. I'll never use dish again and will warn as many people as I can against using the dish company.

I signed up for Dish Network for a 300.00 Visa gift card and was told I would receive it within 6-8 weeks after I submitted the request. Months later I was lied to and given the runaround by numerous customer service agents. I was lied to from day 1. Made a call today and they told me the possibility of redeeming the card that I never received and was promised by agents during 2023 was a flat out scam to get me to sign up with there service. I am leaving Dish Network as soon as my 2 year contract is over. Do your self a favor and stay away. By far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Don't believe their sales agents. Its bait and switch all the way.

Have to create an account just to check availability. When you go to create username, it says there is no username associated with account, same with phone number. Why would there be one already associated if I am creating an account? Did chat with representative and they told me to call. Called, and the guy told me he needed my social security number just to tell me the price of services? Seems like profiling and a scam to me. Definitely will not be using this.

It is extremely disappointing that Dish does not put women's college basketball schedules on game finder. As a former high school girls basketball coach I feel this is disrespectful to those athletes and fans who enjoy watching the amazing talent that this sport attracts.

I had the promo for a 300.00 gift card for switching from Direct tv to Dish and 8 months later I'm still trying to get it! I've turned them into the BBB and they still have excuses! The best one was they don't have my address! Somehow they manage to mail my bill to me! Think carefully before signing up with Dish! False advertising for sure!

DON'T count on getting the $500 prepaid credit card like they say you will! It's a game! As the old saying goes, it was too good to be true and DISH proved it! So frustrating!

I attempted to order a movie with my "free on demand certificate". I called immediately to cancel the movie as it was $19.99 said they couldn't help me I have to call back tomorrow to request refund. The notification on my email never stated it was for a $6.99 movie. Looking forward to the day my contract is up! Always have to make more than one call to resolve issues with Dish!

I never liked this service; we got it back when my wife's soaps weren't available same-day online. The user interface is terrible, even as a software engineer I can understand how it's set up but not how they could imagine any human being, myself included, would like it.

But the worst of all is the way they cheat you. At installation time they make you buy some of the equipment but lease other parts (and they hide the detail that what you're only leasing includes a box attached to the dish on your roof, until you try to discontinue), and they send an installer. But when you want to quit, they require return all the "leased" parts, and they don't even promise that you'll be charged less if you send back the main receiver without the box from your roof.

Absolutely no reason to give these jerks any of your money.

Changed to dish 15 months ago because they offered no contracts. 15 months later I'm moving and they're penalizing me $180. Turned in for arbitration and they refused. They're liars and it's bad service.

Had to put mom in rest home. No longer able to work remote or hear TV. Charged her $200 to stop service.
Took 45min to get service cancelled. They have a bull$#*! answer for everything and won't take no for an answer. Cancelled my service as well because of constant price hikes. STAY AWAY. Go with Netflix or Hulu.At least they have something to watch and very reasonable rates. Thanks for nothing.CROOKS.

When I first signed up with them I was promised the same rate after 4 months my bill went up. I was also promised a gift card that I never received. After calling several times I got the run around from several reps. Finally told them to keep it. I made the biggest mistake signing a contract with them

Rented a movie last night to watch to night. Re-recorded and was available to watch for 48 hours but when try to watch received message that it had expired. Can call center can't get in touch with anyone to talk about the situation.

System should go thru possesses in the night when set at that time. Not do resets during recording in the middle of the day. Constantly having to reinsert smart card on Joey. And signal loss all the time during weather not like advertised on tv. I've told this to there techs. Was locked in at around 115.00 monthly. They raised to around 150.00 but nothing was fixed just ignored. I'm retired, & disabled. Other two in household are disabled. We depend on our entertainment & don't get what we pay for.
