This company is very misleading. I was charged 3 separate times during the process. Each fee is more as you go. I paid $270 for what they labeled as "premium service" It was stated that they negotiated a settlement amount with the previous carrier I had. This was false. The balance still remains. So now I have to pay double the amount I would have vs just paying off my previous carrier. When I brought to their attention, they acted like it never happened. Every response was repeating the same information over and over again. I have been going in circles with no resolution. You can not call them because they want to "document" everything. When you ask them for documentation from them, there's no response. If you are into wasting your time and money, then this is the company for you.

I bought a phone off eBay that was supposed to be unlocked but it wasn't. The seller wasn't replying and since I was without a phone, I was desperate to get it unlocked ASAP. I found DirectUnlocks and it boldly advertised that it was $20 ($25?) and could be done immediately. My fault for not reading the fine print (like most of us). Turns out that was the price to verify that it wasn't already locked. That's a bummer because that service is available for free on a number of sites and it was a check I had already ran on the phone. Okay, so the next step is to pay $50 to have it unlocked. Not thrilled about it but I can see that it was my mistake for misunderstanding that sneaky little bit. So I paid the $50 and it said to expect anywhere from 1-3 days. Day 2 rolls around and my eBay seller replied with huge apologies and said he just initiated the unlock directly through AT&T and it would be done within the day. Within HOURS, it was unlocked. Meanwhile DirectUnlocks sends no word, like they're still working on it. Then FIVE days after I paid for the service, they emailed and basically said, "yay us, we unlocked it!". Uhhhh, no they didn't. I don't feel like I have ground to stand on for complaining because I opted to pay for the service. However, what I do NOT like is three points that edge on dishonesty: (1) fine print that communicated the required $50 and multi-day wait; (2) the five-day period before it was "unlocked"; and (3) taking credit for unlocking the device when they didn't. I'm sure it's a great service, I've used them years ago when I wasn't in a rush. If you are in a rush though, just be aware of what to expect and how much you'll pay for it.
