Don't hesitate
April 18, 2016

The building is being remodeled but is nice and clean. The room was very neat. It got cold with the new air running. Breakfast ok except for the link sausage. Good value

I made reservation at Comfort Inn Palo Alto CA 8/3/2017 and quoted that I will pay CASH when I depart and I arrived 8/4/2017 and checked in and I quoted: I will pay cash when I depart and this Motel is at 3945 El Camino Real in Palo Alto CA and in my room the internet did not work and I went to the office and they could NOT figure out how to get the (Internet) working and 5 hour later it still did not work! And the bathroom has floor tile that is broken and I feel a person could cut there foot on that tile; I checked in with alarm and checked out by BK. This place is a hazard! And the internet did NOT WORK! I will NOT EVER STAY at this Comfort Inn in Palo Alto again because everything is lousy! At this rundown motel.

Paid/Confirmed/Sold Hotel/Consumer Screwed
March 18, 2023

I paid for two rooms at a hotel with points. I purchased the points specifically for use at that hotel for two rooms for one-night. Choice Hotels sent me a letter, two weeks before my stay, stating:
This hotel is no longer franchised by Choice Hotels, and we are no longer able to guarantee this reservation... this correspondence does not ensure confirmation or cancellation of this reservation, so please contact the hotel first at *******153 before making other plans.

I called the number listed several times. Mainly, it rang and rang. Sometimes they would hangup right away. I could not speak with anyone to confirm my two rooms.

I called Choice Hotels, Customer Care. It's actually called 'Choice Cares' (right!). After 45 minutes, the finally got my points back. They forced me to cancel the reservation and then want me to spend more money for another reservation. This was not something I chose to do. I had my rooms booked and paid for with a confirmation.

I asked to speak with a supervisor several times because I feel I should not have to spend more money to get what I originally paid for and I was forced to cancel. Every time I asked for a supervisor, the lady kept trying to get me to give her more money even though I had not asked to rebook the rooms.

I just feel there should have been some type of compensation for what they forced me to do. Checking the reviews for Choice Hotels as a hole, literally, I see the ratings are not even at a 'good' level.

Two weeks from vacation and Choice Hotels is forcing me to spend more money with them if I want to use the money I already gave them.

Poor service
July 22, 2017

I WOULD NOT STAY AT THE ECONO LODGE INN AND SUITES IN WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA. FOR STARTERS THE MANAGER WASN'T THERE WHEN I ARRIVED, EVEN THOUGH HE TOLD ME HE WOULD BE THERE. SECONDLY, THEY CHARGED THE WRONG AMOUNT ON MY CARD AND THE DESK MANAGER HAD TO DO AN ADJUSTMENT FOR THE DIFFERENCE. THIRDLY, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY GOOD. THE FRONT DESK ATTENDANT WASN'T VERY FRIENDLY NOR PROFESSIONAL. I RECOMMEND STAYING SOMEWHERE ELSE WHEN GOING TO WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA.

Me and my wife booked a room a week ago for Memorial Day weekend down in Atlantic City almost a week ago and she received a Confirmation Email detailing the reservation. She received another email just today stating that the Reservation was Cancelled. She never called or emailed anyone to cancel. This is FRAUD and apparently, the Indian Franchise Owners are SO CROOKED AS TO PUT IN A CANCELLATION ON ANY RESERVATION THEY FEEL IS NOT PROFITABLE. DO NOT BOOK ANY ROOMS WITH RODEWAY IN ABSECON NEW JERSEY. CHOICE HOTELS WHICH IS THE PARENT COMPANY OF RODEWAY INN IS JUST AS CULPABLE AND USELESS WHEN YOU TRY TO LODGE A COMPLAINT. YOU CAN'T EVEN GET THROUGH TO ANYONE IN GUEST RELATIONS. WORD TO THE WISE, BOOK YOUR ROOM WITH A HOTEL/MOTEL OUT OF THIS NETWORK OF FRANCHISED HOTELS.

I made a reservation last week for travel over thanksgiving, two nights two rooms each night. Later, I found myself on Travelocity and thought I should just check to see, kind of proud that I thought I had gotten a great deal. NO! I found that I could save $70.40 by booking through Travelocity rather than their website direct! It gets worse!
I called the number on the Choicehotel.com reservation and just hoped they would match the price on Travelocity. NO! After waiting on hold and talking to four (4) people they hung up on me and said they couldn't help me. They would NOT even match the other price let alone guarantee it! Other sites would have beat the lower price by a percentage. Not this group! They were rude, said I had to fill out some online form, but that was only valid within 24 hours of making the reservation and on and on! I am so disgusted I did make the reservation through Travelocity and cancelled through Choicehotels, but I am tempted to not stay there at all because I was treated SO poorly by the website that appears to be the main link to the hotel! The hotel is Comfort Inn in by the Bay in San Francisco, CA.
Buyer Beware! These people are terrible at customer service!

Warning to guests of Choice Hotels Econolodge in Manchester, Vermont. This hotel is not to be trusted. I stayed at this hotel from 1/23 to 1/27 in January 2019 and the hotel charged my credit card for the entire stay two times in the same exact amounts on two separate days. They refuse to credit my charge card for the 2nd duplicate charge. Be forewarned that this was clearly not by accident and now requires wasted time and energy submitting claims to my credit card company, Vermont Attorney General, Vermont Better Business Bureau, and Vermont Small Claims Court. THIS HOTEL SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD.

In their advertising over a long period of time, Choice Hotels clearly stated that points earned in their rewards program were "good for your lifetime". I have used Choice Hotels as my first choice for mid-rated hotels for over 30 years and my current points account goes back over 20 years. During the past two years our travel has been extremely limited because of Covid 19. In May, we made a trip and booked three stays at Choice Hotels. When I returned home, I checked my account and found that over 20,000 points had been removed from the account. I called customer service and was told that Choice Hotels now removes points if there is no activity in your account for 18 months. I requested that my points be reinstated and was told that the person I was speaking with did not have the authority to do that. I requested to speak with a supervisor or manager. The customer service representative refused to put me through to a supervisor and stated that she would submit my request for review and someone would contact me. That never happened. After three weeks, I called again. I could not speak to a supervisor. I wrote a formal complaint and got a response back stating that my request was under review. It has now been another month and the points have not been reinstated. I have not been contacted by a supervisor or manager. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I will never stay at another Choice Hotels property.

Do not make a reservation with Choice Hotels! We had a reservation at NYC hotel near JFK made 1 month prior to the date. 2 days before the date we receive an email saying we are looking forward to your stay. On the day of the reservation we arrived at the airport and called the number we were given for the shuttle. The person at the other end named Daniel said that the hotel has been closed for more than a month and has been changed to a shelter. We asked why we were not notified and the person said we have notified the choice hotels, since you made the reservation with them choice hotel was supposed to notify you. I called the choice hotel reservation number and was transferred between multiple persons who had no idea that the hotel was closed. They said there were no hotels available in the JFK airport area and when I asked to give us a hotel room for one night since we have early morning international trip they asked us to go to Bronx which is hours away in NYC traffic. The reps kept on talking and talking but couldn't offer us a hotel for one night. In the end we were stranded at the airport with no hotel to go to. I would not recommend anyone to reserve with choice Hotels.

Please beware if you are staying with Choice Hotels. Check your bank accounts for fraudulent activity and NEVER give your card information over the phone.

Somebody from Choice called me two days prior to my stay to confirm my reservation. He knew all my information. Said my card on file was coming up as not valid and they needed to have a valid card on file. I confirmed with him my card info. The next day, my bank account was drained of every penny I had and then some. I confirmed with Choice customer service that they did not make that call to me. The agent I spoke with said he'd document it and apologized for the inconvenience. That's it.

I called back the next day to see why they aren't notifying customers that their system has been compromised. They said there's no way to prove that it happened. Someone claiming to be from your hotel and having all of my information called me with ill intentions. Scammer also proceeded to send me a reservation confirmation email (which I showed the hotel manager and she verified it was from the official address) What more do you need to know? Your systems were compromised and I cannot believe you aren't warning others about this.

I will never do business with you again, nor your affiliates (I've cancelled my Bluegreen Vacation just now). And it wasn't just being scammed that has pushed me in this direction. It was the fact that when I first booked you charged me for THREE rooms when I only wanted one. It took many phone calls and over a week to get my money back. Booking this stay was a nightmare and that all falls on your poor customer service.

If I could give a zero I would. I booked using Expedia and got notified of a $60 price cut. Expedia and I called the hotel as a three way to allow me to cancel and re-book in real time with hotel on the phone. Mike, the lead clerk in front desk, refused. Expedia then asked to speak to General Manager but Mike said the General Manager would say NO!. Now, I am going to this hotel tomorrow knowing that I am overpaying by $60. Think I am going to enjoy myself now. NO. I WILL NEVER STAY AT ANOTHER CHOICE HOTEL AGAIN!

I then called Choice Hotel Corporate office to give them a chance to rectify before sending out a bad review. They stated each hotel can do what they want. Moral to this review is never stay at a Choice Hotel again.

No AC!
July 25, 2018

I stayed at the Comfort Inn@ 55 Stern Drive, Seaman, OH, *******, US on July 21,2018. After returning to the room after a concert, it was evident that the air conditioner wasn't working. I called the front desk and a gentlemen came to the door a few minutes later to inspect the AC. He looked at me at said, "Well, it's blowing." Yes, it was blowing, however it wasn't blowing cold air. He said that usually he would move us to another room, but it was fully booked. He offered a fan and said we could open the windows, but if it rained we had to shut the windows so the carpet wouldn't get wet. He then offered to take the pet fee charge $15 off our bill. I told him that I didn't believe that was sufficient. He stated that the best he could do was take $25 off. I mean seriously? It was the end of July and there wasn't any AC. It was cooler outside than in the room. Our bill was slid under the door the next day. We were charged $69 for a room with no AC. I went to the front desk to further complain to Cindy the assistant manager. Turns out that the man working the night before was actually the owner of the hotel. Cindy stated that $69 was a substantial discount on a room that was $94. Seriously? There was no AC. I didn't receive a link to submit a survey (big surprise) so this is the only way I could review this hotel. Customer service was the worst.

So... I do a ton of traveling across the USA, and obviously, I have stayed in several hotels. One of my favorite places to stay is Comfort Suites. This hotel is one of many hotels under "choice hotels" brand. The 1st time that I ever checked in, at the front desk of this hotel, I was made aware, by the front desk clerk about choice hotels rewards program. This program allows you to sign up for a FREE online account, make hotel reservations online, and earn points on your hotel stay. I signed up online, and immediately racked up 76,000 points in less than 1 year. Choice reward points can be redeemed on getting gift cards, transfered to airline flights, hotel/resort stays and more. To make a long story short, I decided to redeem my points for a New Year's vacation that I took in New Orleans. I booked my room online, about 3 months in advance of my vacation. I paid for my 4 day/3night stay WITH POINTS! Anyone can tell you how expensive hotels can be in New Orleans, especially in the French Quarter. I am so pleased with choosing to stay with Choice Hotels...

My husband and I had the worst experience at the Econo Lodge Hotel Paw Paw, MI this last weekend. We arrived at the Econo Lodge late after a long day with family and provided our pre-paid reservation information. At first the person at the desk just indicated we didn't have a reservation. After showing him the documents confirming our reservation, he conceded that we had a reservation but he had cancelled it. He informed us that he had the right to refuse anyone a room at his discretion. After checking with all the other hotels in Paw Paw, it became clear that rooms were in high demand that night and no rooms were available. The person at the counter explained that we had made our pre-paid reservations with an online travel company and that Econo Lodge is paid significantly less for those reservations than ones that the Econo Lodge makes directly with customers. Apparently it is their policy to cancel online reservations if they can resell the room directly to another customer at a higher rate.
If you ever get stuck with a reservation to the Econo Lodge Paw Paw, MI, I strongly recommend you rearrange your travel schedule to check in as early as possible to see if you still have a room. Always have a back-up reservation with a reputable hotel or you will likely end up like my husband and I - a long way from home in the middle of the night with no place to stay.

Pure Sick & Discussing
November 10, 2020

We booked a room at the Ecolodge in Pigeon Forge Tennessee.
Upon arriving late at night went into the room we were given and being it was dark saw two beds and then all of a sudden movement and then a large man charge us. We told the front desk that was very apathetic and they gave us another room that was worse than a disaster. Lit. A door panel nailed to the wall to block out the laudry room next door; the bathroom so discusting that we told them no way but they would get back to us so we bought cleaners to clean it and even no toilet paper etc. Paint pealing off the wall... We kept being told by 3 people they were working on it although the whole place is tore up from construction (should be condemned). Since then we've been told they never had a complaint, no one would call us back and from Choice Hotels that nothing can be done. WHY NOT? DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT HOW HORRIBLE ONE OF YOUR HOTELS ARE AND THE FACT WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT!

On November 7,2022 my husband and I stayed in the Quality Inn in Wickliff, OH. I am 71 years old, and I have never stayed in a worse hotel. The halls and registration area smelled like marijuana. The room was filthy. The bathtub was black, and the carpet and flooring were gritty with dirt. The beds had nothing but a sheet and a thin coverlet on them. I had to sleep in my jacket with a heating pad on my feet to keep warm. There were no buckets for ice. I went to the office to ask for one and was given a thin, plastic waste basket liner. There was no breakfast; however, the hotel smelled so bad we probably wouldn't have eaten there anyway. If I had not had a nonrefundable registration and we had not been so tired, we would have left and found somewhere else to stay. This place is horrible. I am a Choice Hotels member and I felt ripped off. I can usually count on a Choice Hotel to be fairly clean and comfortable, but not this time. You need to take away your Choice Hotels brand from this nasty hotel. It's not the sort of hotel you would want to represent Choice Hotels.

Cheated
December 9, 2020

I ordered 3 gift cards using points. Two $100 visa gift cards and a $50 Amazon gift card. Today I activated two out of the three cards. The third card would not let me activate. I contacted the Visa institute and was told the card was reported lost, I asked how if it hasn't even been activated. The lady put me on hold she came back on the phone and said the card is now activated. I tried to use the card and it was declined. I called the balance hotline and the card has a $0 balance. I call the visa hotline again and explained the situation I was then told with a copy of the purchase receipt she would put the money on the card. I informed her that I bought it through Choice Hotels with points she told me without a receipt it's nothing she can do. I call Choice Hotes and explain the situation Choice Hotels told me that they aren't responsible for stolen or lost gift cards I informed him it's not lost or stolen I have it but there is a $0 balance I was told it's nothing Choice can do and was hung up on after being on hold for 45 minutes. Now I'm out of ******* points and a gift card which was a Christmas gift. This is piss poor service. I'm a diamond elite member who stays in a choice hotel at least 150 days a year. Over a $100 gift card I will not be using your services again because of how unprofessionally I was bull$#*!ted and cheated out of what I earned

We stayed one night in Obetz, Ohio at a Comfort Inn. The room was in major need of maintenance and a GOOD cleaning. The bathroom was digusting. I could not take my shoes off the entire time. The website states an indoor heated pool. This is not true. They have a room filled with wall heaters. The pool itself was not heated. The map in the room states vending on every floor. Again, not true. There was 1 single vending machine on the first floor that keeps your money. To book on the website was half of the cost rather than if you called the hotel directly but even still was charged an extra 150$ because we complained that the 2nd floor smelled so bad. We were charged a "cleaning fee" because we pointed out that the floor stunk so bad. Scam artists.
Choice Hotels claims that the hotel is independently owned so there is nothing that they can do about it. Lovely as the managers and staff at this hotel were so hateful and condescending. But these are the people that you are forces to deal with. Why even put your name with this place if you have no control. I wouldn't want my name affiliated with such a disgusting place. Stay away from Choice Hotels.
