This site is a borderline scam.
They set you up to fail by not allowing you to bid higher than a small amount without 24-48 hour approval. So a Japanese buyer just needs to outbid you by 1 yen and you cannot do anything because the service is so poor.
I honestly believe this site is designed to scam people to raise bid prices but not actually allow them to win anything but the trash items no Japanese user wants to buy.
Stay away from this site, there are tons of hidden fees too. It is absolute garbage compared to all the alternative competitors.
Scammers! I am a long-time customer who spends large amounts of money. I made my last purchases in August, unaware of the upcoming changes, and Buyee did not inform me until September 12, when I intended to make another purchase and discovered that the site was blocked. Customer service responded that the items were obviously prohibited (I only buy cosmetics, in this case blush), and they stuck to this version for several more days. Then they informed me that cosmetics were equated with food, and food is not shipped to the US. I asked for a refund for all my purchases (a total of $300), but they refused. Finally, they informed me of a new policy for shipping packages to the US. A month ago, I paid $15 for shipping, but now they were asking for $85. When I made my purchases, I had no idea I would have to pay so much and would not have made the purchases with such high shipping costs. According to the law, any changes in sales policy, including shipping, can only apply to new purchases made after the changes. If I made purchases while the old policy was in effect, they should have maintained those conditions until the entire purchase process was complete, from sale to delivery. I fell into a trap, spending a lot of money and being forced to pay a huge amount for shipping. They refused to give me a refund. What is particularly despicable is that they hid the new information from me for a long time so that I would continue to make purchases... I refused to pay for shipping. And now they have my purchases and my money, and I have nothing. God will judge them.
I had a terrible and frustrating experience with Buyee. Wanted some Ado stuff (#1 stan btw) and made a new account and only did 2 purchases. One made it to their warehouse, and the other was canceled and refunded for no reason at all — no notification either. Next day, I couldn't log in, reset my password, or do anything. I asked support and they just told me my account was terminated.
But all I did was make 2 purchases? Waste of money and time. (I would recommend worldshopping or fromjapan)
Used Buyee recently and wow—what an experience. They charge a premium for inspection and shipping like they're handling the crown jewels. But when something actually goes wrong with your order? Suddenly it's not their problem. All that talk of "inspection" apparently means "we glanced at it from across the room." The support team? Think of a brick wall but less helpful. They don't care. At all. You're on your own, pal. Honestly, unless you enjoy paying extra to be ignored, I'd steer clear. Buyee? More like "Bye-ee" to your money.
Don't use Buyee. I ordered something through Buyee to be shipped to Australia. Soon after I submitted the order, I found the buyer in the Mercari JP was selling a fake Cartier watch. Within less than 2 hours of submitting the order, I asked Buyee to cancel the order. Buyee refused and claimed they are not responsible for any fake items and that's why the order cannot be cancelled. I then escalated the purchase to Paypal as I used Paypal to settle the purchase. I then received a threatening email from Buyee asking me to cancel the claim and close the case in Paypal. What is buyer protection Buyee offered. NO. They don't care. If Buyee says they have no responsibility and no buyer protection offered to buyer, then why they have the notification popped up on the screen trapping people to use their website. What is your proxy service obligation Buyee? You need to have a duty of care. DO NOT USE BUYEE, a SCAMMER.
While anyone wants to be able to buy simply, quickly, and transparently these days, BUYEE offers a service that is completely opposite to these principles.
This intermediary between international buyers and suppliers of goods based in Japan is of rare complexity and has a Customer Service without any flexibility or sense of the customer.
1) I placed an order for 7 items, only 1 item was retained and 6 of them deleted without any explanation. I was not given any possibility to cancel the order despite the major changes made unilaterally.
2) There is a complete lack of clarity on the costs and operating processes. The chain of the different fees charged by Buyee is made to add 9 successive levels of fees that are totally opaque when placing an order, then announced over time:
1) service fees
2) option fees
3) domestic shipping costs
4) international shipping costs
5) BUYEE warehouse storage fees (if applicable)
6) consolidation fees (if applicable)
7) package reinforcement fees (if applicable)
8) photo service fees (if any)
9) customs taxes (if any)
The translation into English is bad and one is mistaken about the meaning of "Insured delivery" included in the "option fees".
You are first charged at the time of order for 1) and 2), without any idea what the domestic and then international shipping costs will be.
In the end, I placed an order for 11,000 yen which was reduced by BUYEE without explanation to 2,000 yen.
Shipping costs 3) and 4) were announced to me afterwards at 6,000 yen, which is 300% of the amount of the remaining items in my order!
So I ended up being forced to choose the disposal of my package, without any refund. The cost of the items as well as the domestic expenses were lost in full (2000 + 2000 yen), after 2 months of negotiations that remained useless.
I have had dozens of exchanges with BUYEE Customer Service, all sterile and unsuccessful, because this company remains firm in its positions, closed to any acknowledgement of its wrongs as well as to any concession in favor of the customer that any entity with the slightest commercial consideration and respect for those who make it live.
In conclusion:
- BUYEE has terribly complex and opaque operating rules, generating unexpected additional costs at various stages of the order processing process
- a "Customer Service" in name only, having no commercial sense or interest of the customer
I ardently recommend not to use the services of this unpleasant, unpredictable and expensive intermediary.
Even though their website states that their insured delivery, which cost an additional fee, will compensate for product damage from shipping, they do not compensate at all even though they agree that there was damage from the shipping.
The product received was also different from the listed representation. They merely apologized and seek the buyer's understanding without providing any remedy.
I wrongly placed order "Y*******107", I sent out email to cancel immediately (within 1 minute), it was out of office time and Buyee did not reply, the next day they just confirmed order placed and cannot be cancelled.
I requested to use coupon which is valid and within period instead, once again they confirmed cannot use without confirming the details. This company just simply ignore all customer reasonable request, their customer services sucks & horrible, i felt like being robbed, I will never use it ever again.
Their fees are high, exchange rates always higher than others, communication is so weak, they replied everything by the book like a machine, if you ever use them, be careful and have to get ready to enjoy no services.
They do not take any responsibility for the goods they sell or promote. I have once again, even after giving them a second chance, been ripped off. Never again will i use them and nobody els e should either.
For higher priced items, Buyee does not provide support should the item arrive damaged, defective or different than described by the seller. I recently bought a watch that arrived broken. The watch was also supposed to come with a warranty card, but did not. Finally, the package arrived with visible shipping damage. On the watch were also mismatched serial numbers. Buyee customer service said that for items above a certain price point, they will not help, even though I paid for their extra service option. They also said they would not help in the case of counterfeit items. Because Buyee as a proxy is the purchaser of record, there is nothing you can do. Best to find a reputable company that protects your purchases.
Won 4 bearbrick auctions with a seller whose store declares it only sells genuine products and full refund will be given if it is a fake.
All 4 turn out to be fakes. Buyee support does not provide refund. It also does not provide the seller's contact so I have no way to get a refund.
I also notice other sellers posting fakes.
Use Buyee at your own risk.
I lead an auction for a week and then they denied my request to raise my maximum bid.
Avoid this site.
I won several Yahoo auctions and other items through Buyee and I never had any sort of problems. And the customer care is exceptional: fast and precise replies for any question.
Been using Buyee (linked to Tenso.com) services quite a few times already. Quite disappointed at their International Shipping Fees charged, which is highly priced for small and lightweight items. Customer Service Agents standard is average, you have to write to enquire with them about your order then they will respond; otherwise you'd would not hear from them. Recent experience of using Buyee service to purchase a very small and lightweight (item was below 70g), their Warehouse did not bother to look into the item's size but instead packed the very small item into a much larger package in order to charge on the volumetric weight which is pretty illogical and charging much higher International Shipping fees for the very small item. Would recommend anyone to consider looking at alternative providers which also offer buyer shopping services for shopping sites in Japan, at a more competitive price.
I've spent hundreds of USD ordering from Buyee and Tenso, their parent company, but NEVER AGAIN after being scammed and dealing with their horrible customer service. Checkout price was 1500 JPY — immediately on checking out, I was charged 4200 yen, almost 3X the cost! This cost as much as the item itself. Buyee customer service is nonexistent, slow, completely unhelpful as they just sent the same page from their FAQ over and over. Refused to look into it until I filed a credit card dispute, to which they immediately shipped the package to cover themselves! Oh, and when I filed the dispute, I found out that if you pay with PayPal, Buyee authorizes a RECURRING PAYMENT WITH NO END DATE and not a one-time fee. PayPal's customer service helped me discontinue the recurring payment but I would stay far away from this unethical site.
Fake product and told won't be compensated. They charged shipping costs again even they charged in purchasing.
DON'T BUY WITH BUYEE. THEY TERMINATE ACCOUNT AFTER YOU SPEND MONEY AND BEFORE YOU CAN EXPORT YOUR ITEMS.
I spent $2500 in the last 3-4 days as well as 30+ hours of my time looking for good purchases.
My account has been terminated for god knows what, buyee isn't even telling me what the reason is.
I don't understand why buyee would even do that especially since the sellers have already shipped my items.
I believe it may be because my account was eligible for free shipping coupons and they don't want to pay shipping on such large packages.
I would gladly pay the fees myself.
I want to hug every employee of Buyee. I heard some people say that Buyee is bad before, but I personally think it's really convenient of a site. It's a generous site. And I hope that they can know that they are very important for my life!
Buyee is such a scammer! I was bidding an item on Yahoo Auction and someone placed a higher bid then me so I gave up since the price was too high. But the seller cancelled the buyer that placed higher bid then me, so end up I became the highest bidder. The seller described the item as 'No obvious damage / dirt' and 'No tears and dirt'. But then when I open up my parcel two days ago, I literally lost my words! The item has loads of cracks, oxidized, rust, snags and tears! Which the condition was really bad and not as pictured and described! I immediately made a complaint to Buyee, sent them pictures and videos, and they replied me they can't issue me a refund because they think it's fine.
Their service fee was very high and the most expensive compare to other competitors. I decided continue to use Buyee as I have been using them for 4 years, and I have great experiences without any issues in the past, but not anymore! I don't recommend anyone to use their service with this price and services.
I was eligible for a coupon but despite the web page showing the deducted amount, when I finalized it paypal deducted the amount without the coupon. I contacted customer service and they admitted that I was eligible for the coupon but they would not refund me the amount which is very disappointing. Stick with the alternatives like zenmarket.
Answer: It's a scam, at least to my definition. They lost an item I bought and claimed the warehouse is "preparing it". When I stated that I wanted a refund because it was lost (warehouse maintenance for 2+ weeks?), they told me tough luck and that they wouldn't do anything.
Answer: Well the thing is they do correspond with you, but either way they don´t understand what they wrote or they just having fun with writing useless sensless E-Mail which completley ignore the context of what you wrote to them before which is just frustrating for everybody, cause the might think, hey we are overseas... so what can they do right?!
Answer: Yes there is a website called neokyo but I think it no longer supports Mercari Japan. Best for Amazon japan and other websites. I've heard the shipping is a bit cheaper
Answer: One where I was really happy and wasn't drowned by fees? No.
Answer: Didn't know at the time when I used them that there were alternatives.
