I am a small business that accepts American Express at great cost to me for the convenience of my customers. I recently completed an HVAC installation for a customer and accepted an American Express as both deposit and final payment for completion of the work. The customer did not like the appearance of one small portion of the installation. There was nothing wrong with the job or work. All permits were approved. The customer even had the Manufacturer come to their home for inspection and it was approved by them as an above standard installation. The customer claimed breach of contract and denied the charge. I supplied all documentation to American Express that the job was installed as written on the contract, inspected and approved by Fire Department and they denied my request and charged me back for the job over $5,000. With no recourse. Just DENIED!. They did not tell me what was the breach or how to correct no information, just DENIED! All because the customer said so! I will no longer accept American Express at my business and I will be sure to spread the word to colleagues the practices of American Express! I tried to upload images several times and they would not load. I have images and documents to support this claim and would be glad to provide them.
Don't get the American Express Platinum Card. Today's date is July 28,2021. I hope I can get my initiation money back. I've had it for 2 - 3 weeks and 1/2 the times that I use it the card declines. I call American Express customer service. They say because I'm making a payment on my card, the card is frozen for 6 days. They will unfreeze if they can call my bank with me on the line. I agreed to this twice this week already. I went to make a small purchase and it was declined. I called and they asked to call my bank again. Third time in 1 week! I make payments once per week on my Amex account. That ON A RECORDED LINE is what they told me to do. So I follow their advice and this is what I get. No credit, bad customer service, and a loss of hundreds of dollars in imitation charges. This card is a ripoff. Why would anyone sign up for a credit card that gets shut off for 1 week every time they make a payment. If I follow American Express advice, this means that the card will not work for 3 out of 4 weeks per month. I have multiple credit cards and no other credit card company treats me this way EXCEPT American Express. LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT.
American Express just decided to block my card due to the fact that their team made a mistake scanning my documents. They are unable to tell me when they can send someone to scan the documents again, nor when they will be able to unblock the card. Thank you American Express for making my life difficult. After leaving an abusive marriage, and trying to turn my life around, then Covid hits. Without notice, AmEx took my BUSINESS account and reported it to my PERSONAL account as a collection. The last payment was in May, and they did this in July. We have had an excellent relationship with AmEx and always paid on time. Covid severely affected our business income, losing 75% of our business. My personal credit was great. They now have caused a more than 100 point drop on my report.
After contacting the AmEx credit bureau department, as well as the 3rd party collection agency (all day being sent back and forth with no help or answers, except that, "you need to pay the balance off") the 3rd party rep actually had the audacity to say to me, "once you pay this debt you can re-establish a relationship with AmEx as you are a valued customer". Is he insane? After they've done this to me, AND ruined my credit score?
DO NOT even think about signing up with this company. I wish I never had.
I am boycotting American Express. Who is with me? I was a customer for over 26 years with no late payments. I had a problem with my autopay. I was charged over $200 interest for 5 days between the problem and being notified.
Just spoke to Peggy Jones from AMEX. She was very rude and did not understand the situation whatsoever. I was told by 5 reps (yes, 5 individual reps) that my account is cleared for a charge I was about to make. The charge was declined although I'd wired money to AMEX specifically for this charge. I called to check why it was declined, they advised me to split the payment into 2. I did that and it was declined again. I called them again and explained that if the charge doesn't go through I will incur fees since it's a long weekend. They said to try it again. Tried, declined. Called again and spoke with Peggy. She gave me some attitude, which I did not deserve, I did not yell, spoke respectfully. I am their client for about 12 years but no more. I am closing all my accounts with AMEX, business(es), and personal, and I advise you to do the same. If they are not there the 1 time in 5 years that I need them then what's the point.

I received 6 mail that I'm pre approved and all my friends they have the card when I apply my application got denied knowing that I have high score and very good income and then they ask for form 4506-c for no reason don't believe this company

I wanted to summarize my unfortunate situation where Amex refused to honor one of their Amex credit card products' welcome offer when the online application successfully went through with offer confirmation from Amex representative at time of application. On top of that, I also received solicited application offer for the same card that was mailed to my physical home addressed to me from Amex at time of application. Since then, I met all requirements by now and only then Amex is telling me that they will not honor the offer. Spoke to multiple Amex reps since the complaint where they claimed investigation was done and that decision is final that they would not honor it without valid and detailed explanations despite their mistake and misinformation during my application and failure to explain why only now months later am I told I don't qualify for it. They went through the recorded phone calls and confirmed/admitted the mistake made by Amex rep and said that they will improve their coaching in future. Amex did not show any remorse and did nothing else to compensate for the mistake they caused that significantly impacted my situation. I was denied a subsequent request for further investigation and escalation.
Most Dishonest company out there. Your calls go to another country with a different culture that could not understand them and they don't understand you.

AMEX was the only one to lower my spending limit all the way ($2000 a month) what a joke. I took my business to B of A. They are very understanding and pro-business. Dealing with AmEx travel is a no-no. Now they're telling me that rescheduling will cost me about $290, plus charges for the difference in hotel room prices, which will vary depending on when I reschedule. Summer rates would, without a doubt, be higher. I'll be down at least $1000 and I don't know whether it has to be rescheduled. American express customer service is garbage! My EX-business partner and I had an account and he didn't pay so it showed up on my account. I have in no doubt paid this debt already but wasn't paid to American express and I am currently in litigation with my ex business partner but want this off my credit since this lawsuit has been going on since 2017. I try to contact them (American Express) to see if they would work with me and to see if it would affect ever getting another account and I was moved around SEVEN (7) times to people who had no idea why I was transferred and what was going on. Then when I get it figured out they say I DO NOT KNOW. Basically wasting my time! I am trying to make right and they can't even get their $hit together and this is not to top off the fact they hung up on me THREE (3) TIMES! Then i speak with someone that says my account will be satisfied if I make a payment of $7,902 of the $11,289 that I owe but I ask a question and I get transferred to someone completely different because he is of no help. After that person is of no help and I get hung up on I call back and when I get to someone to just pay that I am told that it won't satisfy the account I will still owe and be told there will basically be a negative mark on any future needs. I just GIVE UP they are useless pieces of $hit over there that need to get their $hit together. They don't even have a general email you have to have an account which I do not have any access to. That was another phone call to see if I can get log on info to send messages and I was told to hold on 1 min and they hung up on me AGAIN! There are plenty of other companies to get credit from go with them over American express if not get ready to waste your time if you ever have an issue. I should be billing them for all my wasted time and efforts!

The driver indian guy ask me quick quick to collect the parcel at my guard which he so lazy to come in at my lobby. He said the guard ask so many question which is i think why poslaju & others courier can come in but he cannot. I try to make faster but im pregnant & need to bring my kids along. He called again & ask me to hurry. When i reach there he said he was come in here past 3-4days but i never pickup his call so he have to returned back to office which i think he lie coz i never received any miss called from any personal no. Yes, the parcel take more than 1 week that i expected. My parcel also not in good condition. Never used this courier anymore!
AMERICAN EXPRESS REALLY SCREWED ME THROUGH THIS NATIONWIDE PANDEMIC EMERGENCY! THIS ACCOUNT WAS FOR A $800 YEARLY FEE(2 CARDS) PLATINUM CARD AND LOAN. CARD WAS $0 BALANCE.
I LIKE MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WAS HAVING TROUBLE PAYING CC BILLS DUE OFF BEING LAID OFF FROM TO THE COVID 19 EMERGENCY IN MARCH. AMERICAN EXPRESS LET ME DEFER MY PAYMENTS FOR 4 MONTHS. I KNOSW THIS SEEMS LIKE A GREAT THING IT WASN'T FOR ME. AFTER THOSE 3 OR 4 MONTHS AMEX GOT GANGSTER AND STARTED DEMANDING PAYMENTS NICELY AND WHEN I ASKED FOR ADDITIONAL HELP THEY REFUSED. I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ELSE I COULD DO, THEY OFFERED A SETTLEMENT FOR MY BALANCE. I WAS TOLD I HAD 2 WEEKS TO THINK ABOUT IT, I DID THAT AND CALLED AMEX BACK TO ACCEPT THE LOWER SETTLEMENT PAYMENTS. AMEX GOT ON THE PHONE AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT AS MY ACCOUNT WAS NO LONGER IN THEIR SYSTEM. IT TURNS OUT THAT RIGHT AFTER OFFERING ME THE SETTLEMENT AND THE WEEKS TO THINK ABOUT IT THEY IMMEDIATELY SENT MY ACCOUNT TO ALLTRAN COLLECTIONS SUBSEQUENTLY RUINING MY CREDIT. MY SCORE WENT FROM 670 TO 520. AMERICAN EXPRESS THE COMPANY HAS SHOWN US DURING THIS NATIONAL EMERGENCY THAT THEIR CUSTOMER / CARDHOLDERS MEAN NOTHING TO THEM. DON'T EVER EVER APPLY FOR ANY AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD. I HAD MY WIFE CLOSE HER CARD ACCOUNT IMMEDIATELY. I started out with the green card. I thought it was pretty good but I also didn't think I was getting enough points back.
Then I had a dental emergancy. Everything worked out good until I was getting ready to pay. When I got the bill I was in shock, over 4K. I was in a slight panic as the receptionest was stairing at me waiting for me to pay. I opened up the Amex app on my phone and checked my spending power. Approved in 1 second. When I was leaving the parking lot all I could think of was WOW this is the best card I ever had! A few months ago I upgraded to the gold card and at first I thought the annual fees were a little high $250.00 but the points are amazing. 4X the points, some of their preferred places are 10X the points. In 2 months I earned over $300.00. The gold card is made out of metal and very heavy it's a Beast. When you hand it to someone for payment it commends a lot of respect. I highly recommend it.
I always keep in mind that its a check card and not a credit card so I use it like cash, I only buy what I can afford and generally make 2 payments a month.
One problem that it does create(by being so awesome). I have to force myself to use my other credit cards so they don't lower my credit limits.

You would think an expensive card like this would protect a customer's interest. You would be wrong like my wife, and I found out. My wife and I back in January planned our 30th wedding anniversary in Italy for April 23 - May 6. Some of that trip was purchased through American Express and the balance through a VISA card. As you would guess, flights were canceled, and hotels were closed. American Express recovered none of the purchases on the American Express card while VISA recovered all those on the VISA card. I managed to personally recover all the American Express charges except one. This purchase had to do with a flim-flam travel business called Agoda. They kept our money because of a no-show! Huh? However, Trip.com returned all our purchases without the help of American Express. They are totally useless and do not care at all who they do business with. American Express is filled with bean counters that have no interest in fairness whatsoever.
Aweful experience! The app does not except my new password and after 3rd attempt it revokes with error message giving a wrong phone number for American Express customer support. Also it is so difficult to reset it. Inhumane and unhelpful customer support. I went over my limit, and paid off all my balance, but they cannot undo negative credit activities they sent out to Expedia. They act as scammers, and they never fix any errors in their website and app. I would never recommend using their services. You better off using Capital One or other credit cards with better rewards and forgiving programs
