I can't even begin to describe the difference between THE AMERICAN EXPRESS, and the rest of the rest, matter of fact I don't know why would anyone choose another institution I can't help but feel truly sorry for the time I have wasted with the others and I can't be more proud that Im a part of this family.
Terrible online experience and even worser customer service. I had a fraudulent transaction today where I received a Safekey email when I was not using my card, this means someone else is trying to use my card. So naturally I need to report this to American express as soon as possible. But the email from American Express does not have an option for me to click a button and report it. Instead, it asks me to call the number on the back of the card. So I called. After a 5 min wait, someone picked up the call, said hello and hung up after a few seconds. So I thought I will send a secure email. I logged into my account, drafted the detailed email and clicked send. I got America express server error and it asked me to contact server at administrator *******@your.address. Does it even make any sense? Now I also lost the long message I typed. So I went back to the main page, logged in again and clicked on secure email again. This time it says my request could not be executed due to a technical error. What am I supposed to do now? Let the card be used fraudulently and loose my money.
One of the worst experiences ever. I would recommend anyone and everyone not to use American Express.
I have had an American Express card since 1996 and was generally happy with them until now. But then things went south with both accounts.
For what transpired with the Hilton Honors credit card, please see a separate review I have published.
This review is about the Delta-AmEx credit card, which I obtained less than a year ago. Everything was good until Oct 12 when I noticed multiple charges from Airalo Singapore for $20, $20, $4.90, and $9.90.
$4.90 was rejected by AmEx and $9.90 was never completed so it was dismissed as an abandoned transaction. All charges apparently originated from Singapore by manual entry - but their system never flagged them as requiring authorization the moment they originated (viz: $20 and $20 charges).
I disputed both $20 charges and in less than 24 hours, AmEx justified them as valid charges and reinstated them (no docs were ever provided based on which they made these determinations). After the Hilton Honors and this experience, this was the last stroke.
I have closed all my AmEx cards and would never use them again. Adios American Express!
May you learn to understand how fraud is done, how to fight fraud, how not to penalize card holders for your failings, and how to retain customers. But perhaps I am hoping too much.
I have been a Hilton Honors member through American Express since 1996 and was generally happy about them until now. Suddenly, in July 2023, they deducted points from my account. I contacted them and they directed me back to American Express. Then I wrote to both the American Express CEO and Hilton CEO. After a few weeks of investigation, this is what I am told:
"Our records indicate that your Hilton Honors account had a negative point balance of 1,392 since March of 2006. As you recently resumed use of your account, points earned from the transactions billed on your July 2023 statement were used to offset this negative point balance. Regrettably, we do not retain transaction records beyond seven (7) years and therefore cannot specify the transaction(s) that lead to the negative point balance."
But I always had a positive point balance in this account until Dec 2022 when the last points were used to pay for an Amazon order! Why weren't these points deducted between 2006 and 2022?
I think this is just another way to fleece the customers under the pretext of "we don't know why you owe us, we just know you owe us"!
I am going to close this account and move on. Adios Hilton and American Express!
I am currently in the process of getting my card number from Amex. They told me they WILL NOT provide me MY card information to keep my account secure…Never heard of such thing. I AM THE CARDHOLDER! They told me not even the CEO would be able to give me MY OWN INFORMATION!
I have been a customer for 6 long years and so they have started taking me fir granted. 31 July, a payment towards insurance policy from ICICI Lombard renewal was done and same day it was confirmed to me by Amex executive named Khusboo and was promised to recieve the sofy copy in the next 3 working days. Today being the 4th day, i did not get the polich document and also amex is not co forming whether the payment was successful or not and ICICI Lombard says that they have not generated by policy as payment were not recieved. The payment was done through razorpay link from amex credit card. I think i gave taken a wrong decision in renewing the policy for the 2nd year. I will never recommend this to anyone and would also not renew it ever again. I also, would end my subscription of amex credit card as the customer service is pathetic and people make false statements. Worst service ever experienced.
MINUS -10 All looks well from the start £6,000 monthly spend cap worth the £595 a year fee. On day 25 of your cooling off period they send a letter out 2-3 days to arrive day 27-28 comes the letter will reduce your spend cap dramatically in my case £6,000 dropped down to £900 cooling off period past. And still get charged in their words pro rata. All lies lies lies trick you into false presences and still get charged the subscription fee outrageous from amex AVOID at all costs not worth the paper it's written on. Instead I now have a 0% credit card no fees monthly cost or anything for 24 months with a £10,000 spend cap not like amex scamming people out of their well earned money. Disgusting from amex stay clear. If they kept your spend cap to what they first give you in the thousands the subscription is worth it. But dropping your spend cap after your cooling off period is over and still being g charged is a Disgusting SCAM if you ask me knowing people won't pay their £600 a year fee and cancel they still scam you out of your money. So folks avoid at all cost go get a 0% credit card for 2 years cancel it get another one for 2 years FREE avoid amex £1,200 charge for 2 years ridiculous.
After the story below I checked my FICO and I am at 787,14% revolving utilization and zero missed payments. I'd think AMEX would want to keep me?
It is better to leave AMEX. I've had an AMEX card since the early 1970's. For years it was a Gold card and then I got tired of the annual card membership fee. I received a Business Card. I'm now 70 and a few years ago I placed the card on automatic pay. Shame on me for not keeping track. The last I knew the interest rate was a bit under 10%. I've been carrying a balance of $4,500. Today I decided to check my account and was astounded to see that my interest rate is 16.49%! What! I was told it has been that rate for three years. Errrr! Cancer stuff and time flew by without me checking.
Charging this rate during times of historically low Fed Funds I realized these people have been screwing me (sorry for the pejorative sentence). My credit rating is good, I never miss payments and they've been charging me this rate! Shame on me for allowing it. Shame on them for doing it. So today I'll pay off that rate and end my relationship with AMEX. I told them my plan and there was a time that AMEX would have looked at the length of time a person was with them and tried to keep them as a customer. IT is clear this is NOT the AMEX of old. Or maybe it's because we buy all our cars in cash, house is paid off, we don't use our credit cards, etc.?
I say leave them.
I have had 3 different AMEX cards over the last 10+ years and customer service as well as the website have been outstanding. Compared to the websites and service with the 3 other major financial giants I have credit cards with (Chase, CITI and Barclays) I would rate AMEX the highest not just in terms of customer service and the website's usability but their credit cards have the best rewards programs available. I would especially recommend the Blue Cash Rewards American Express Card.
AmEx Travel chooses the most affordable packages for you without reminding you of the cancellation policies. I booked a $4500 trip to France and it seems that I won't get a penny back because I had to cancel due to medical issues. Make your own flight and hotel reservations. Dealing with AmEx travel is a no-no. Now they're telling me that rescheduling will cost me about $290, plus charges for the difference in hotel room prices, which will vary depending on when I reschedule. Summer rates would, without a doubt, be higher. I'll be down at least $1000 and I don't know whether it has to be rescheduled. NEVER Or EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER
I am writing to share my experience and disgust at the business tactics used in the matter/recent experience of upgrading my prior Hilton Honors card to the Surpass card.
I received an email offer and made a sound decision at the time to upgrade and incur an annual fee to utilize the benefits you advertised and to secure the promotion offered to me.
I held up my end of the business deal and spent $ and fulfilled the requirements of the $3,000 in purchases within the time frame allotted. I could have benefitted by spending the money and utilizing points with a different card I possess. I trusted this business.
Fast forward to six months later and I have been sent around to ringer to call back and await approval and have now been denied the 100,000 points due to the fact that there is no record of a promotion being applied when I clearly upgraded and received a new card.
This is unacceptable customer service and fraud.
I have cancelled my card because of the principle here.
Misleading customers and encouraging them to enroll in your card plan and then denying them the agreed bonus is shameful. The level of customer service I just received is non-existent.
This experience has been unfair and that is not okay
They have all kinds of great offers but half the time you will find yourself fighting to
Get them creditted... Be sure to skip the Macywineshop one as lots of people dont get that one...
I won't use American Express again. They waived the $29 late fee, but not the $100 interest fee. This was even after I had paid the bill in full and setup autopay a 2nd time.
They charge you the first month you get the card but don't give you half the benefits until the second year you're charged. So you pay almost 1000 dollars for small benefits
The staff at the American Express Travel have exceeded our expectations! Thank you Stacy and Chris for your help in canceling a hotel reservation in Napa at the 3 Palms Napa Valley Hotel and Resort,
When we received notice day of our travel that the performer at the Uptown had canceled his show due to illness, we immediately called American Express travel to see if we could avoid any penalty's, these gals called the hotel direct and explained the situation. Unfortunately the manager at the hotel declined to waive the penalty, which was the one night charge. But, our American Express representative was able to waive the cancellation charge by AX and get some money back to us!
Thanks American Express!
Do not pick American Express gift card e card, will not work online, in your mobile wallet or at Walmart, you have to print out A copy of it and take it to a merchant who will type it in to use it, Walmart won't take it, most large retailers won't take it
No customer service majority businesses don't want to take rediclass fees basic points high apr I had this card for 4 yeras I put about $******* on it they tell you 1 percent back ya right 2 percent on gas station ya right in 4 years I had 1 dispute and they gave me the run around for 55min transfer back and forward with no resolution so I canceled them
I am disappointed with everything dealing with American Express. I was recently told I needed to utilize my card or it would be closed out. I guess I used it too aggressively because I am being threatened with my account being closed or pay $1110.00 for the first payment. I only have about a $4000.00 balance. I have a card that is $******* and a card that's $*******. I pay my bills and other than that I don't see why it was necessary to run my credit (hard/soft) hit over a funky $4000.00. We are doing upgrades and preparing for vacation. But thank you Amex, I realized in this whole ordeal my interest rate with you is the highest sooooo, you've made the decision for me. I shredded the card and will be paying it off to never use again. By the time you close out my account in the future my 780 credit score will be restored. I also purchased 3 Acura's in the past 2.5 years totaling approximately $200,000. So there are many factors as to why my score recently dropped and none are because my payment history. Goodbye and good riddance!
They promises sign up bonuses which they don't pay out, alot or promises and asking to wait over and over again.
Apparently this is a systematic error affecting many customers.
I was an American Express customer for well over 10 years. I appreciated the good service and support; particularly, if I had concern regarding any charges. While not the fault of American Express, I, personally, am unable to reap the benefits of the annual fee. Not that I doubt it, but I'm told that if certain actions are taken such as an increase in spend despite my already high balance, for example, I will be able to earn enough membership rewards to cover the annual fee. Being that I'm trying to pay down debt and rid myself of $150 or more in monthly interest, I asked if I might be able to have a discount on the annual fee and also inquired about downgrading from the gold card. I was told that there would be a $30 fee to maintain the existing card member if I diwngrade and, despite stating multiple times that membership rewards we're not of benefit to me, I was told that the small fee to maintain second cardholder would not be waived and was repeatedly reminded of the benefits that I should be able to be reap by putting more charges on the card. To make this already long story shorter, I am no longer a member of American Express. Thanks to the company, I now have MasterCard with no annual fee and a lower interest rate. The bank that I work with happened to offer 15 months with no interest and a small fee for the balance transfer so it was quite worth it. The bank also attempts to detect fraudulent card use and I believe they will stand behind me if a charge is truly fraudulent. In a short period of time, my balance hass reduced notably.
Worst credit card out there. Act like it's prestigious to have one, only if you wanna give money away. Would rather suck off the dog than deal with them.
Answer: Terrible organization since it outsourced out to Malaysia
