There are not enough words I can string together to express how much I hate aleks. Never have I wasted more of my time than doing the pointless learning objectives that do not help in any way. Also, I have never dealt with something that is so picking and specific about rounding and decimals. Getting one thing wrong punishes you with more infuriating problems that do not help you learn and understand the material. I would love if aleks could get taken down so no one else has to deal with this frustrating and soul sucking system.
Okay where do I start? This site is supposed to teach people things but I feel like I have lost brain cells from it words can't even describe how $h! T this site is. The creators should've been bullied more as a kid let alone get bullied more as adults. I hope one day this site gets taken down or gets hacked and the hacker takes it down
If any hackers are out there PLEASE hack this website and add some inappropriate stuff to it to get it blocked by school laptops so we never have to use this site again
When you complete a topic in Aleks it then sends you a childish message about how great you did. For anyone under the age of 12, I suppose that's ok. For an adult I feel like I should be eating fruit snacks and drinking Capri Suns while completing a topic. Just short of getting glitter and stickers from your teacher.
This site needs to be updated for adults that need to use this method for college.
This is by far the most disgusting and the most selfish disregard for your time. Instead of using your time actually learning, you are wasting it on this app. I wonder if Aleks actually bothers reading these reviews. Ask your teachers not to use this. I hope they go out of business. It marks you wrong, when it's right. You cannot move on, adds more questions. You are absolutely stuck in a black hole without learning. ALEKS IS A SCAM. Do better aleks. How about you check out how much time people spend on it and then consider if they enjoy spending most their life on here. DISGUSTING.
For school, I am required to complete 10 Aleks topics a week. Have you know, this can be incredibly hard without proper guidance. This I do not have, as I complete most topics for homework alone. After answering a question wrong, Aleks doesn't really provide much of an reason for why said answer was wrong. Just a few words, and we're off! Their explanations are sparse and lacking. I am consistently left with questions after answering wrong! I wish Aleks where more similar to IXL, another program that explains why your own answer was incorrect, not just what the answer really is (Exactly what Aleks does NOT do.)
That moment when you just want the pain to go way and there are safety scissors in the corner. That is what I feel like every time I log onto aleks. They say we use it to save paper, but I don't give a $!@% about trees. I just like it the old fashioned way.
Thank god it's over. I just finished my pre-calculus course in college. This was the worst web-based learning platform I have ever used. Not only did it take me over 15 hours a week to complete each chapter, but I felt the "examples" of each lesson were not very well demonstrated. For example, some questions within a lesson would be nothing like the examples they give you. The next thing about Aleks is that you must get 5 points within each lesson to move on to the next lesson. If you answer 3 questions correct in a row, two of them give you double credit, essentially meaning you could move on to the next lesson by answering just 3 questions. Sounds pretty simple right? WRONG! There are setbacks! If you get a question incorrect, it sets you back. If you look an example before answering a question, you only get 1 point. I felt more punished than rewarded. I was literally in tears one night because of how frustrated I was. Avoid at all costs!
The rules, $#*! as they are, change every two seconds. All I ever wanted was to learn and Aleks not only took that away but also my will to live. 0/10 would not recommend. Also it crashes every minute
Ok, first of all, I'm coming out knowing less than I began with. Second of all see this picture? That's what happened to my timeline when I took a knowledge check. Third, this gives you common mental breakdowns and drives you to tears every few hours. Then explanations are useless and teach nothing. You will not want to live after a few minutes of this. This is truly, and honestly, the worst of the worst. You've hit rock bottom. Never, under any conditions, use this.
We use this in school, and it's so much better than the regular class. You end up skipping about 90% of each course with the initial knowledge check, then get ahead of your class easily. You don't have to sit through lessons you already understand. I like that it adapts to what you already know.
The system is very tedious to use and I found myself missing questions and having to restart topics because of one typo very often. Not very forgiving and felt like it was a task I hate to complete that didn't actually teach me much. TIme would have been much better spent simply going over notes.
This app has caused so many mental breakdowns for me. Our teachers are really strict about it and make us do a grade above us and a lot of it is multiple grades above. People in my school pay people to do ALEKS for them and some kids make a lot of money off of it. It's also super easy to cheat because you can find the answers with a quick google search. Basically everyone hates Aleks unless they're an adult who didn't do it themselves. Find a way that students enjoy that won't stress them out a ton. People cry at school about it.
Have been using it for years and it only benefit is that it *sometimes* lets you take pre-tests which can help speed your progress but other than that its pretty awful. Not friendly to the user and is nearly impossible if you have more than 4 courses and a human amount of motivation. Answers can be wrong or unexplained, tests tend to ask for questions significantly different and more difficult than the taught questions. People in videos often tend to have awful mic quality (or don't know how to use one) to the point where I've had the site muted for years.
Besides all of the whiny people complaining just because of the work, it's actually a bad site. You spend maybe a few minutes on a topic to learn it and then most people (like me) forget about it later, you do like 500 of these with knowledge checks every once in awhile which can be good or bad. They test you on what you learned, if you don't remember how to do the stuff (and you probably won't) it sends you way back. It's not a "good learning site" it's a chore. It's an add-on to the work students are already doing, it's just another assignment teachers can give to the students and it doesn't help in any way. I didn't even mention the countless number of bugs on the site but other reviews should tell you much about that. Someone please listen to this and take it into consideration. Thanks
Aleks makes myself and my classmates feel as if we can't ever be good enough. Aleks makes me want to kill myself. It puts so much stress on us students, it has genuinely given me suicidal thoughts more than just a few times.
I've been working on topics all week, approx 10 hours of work put in. I'm not even halfway done and it's due in 2 days. This is the worst educational tool i've ever come across i think, how is ANYONE supposed to get anything done on this?
This site is gross and it takes up so much time, like some lessons are easy but its just so repetitive and if it were a person i would gladly see it die it front of my eyes like I'm not even kidding. Also please send help.
This kind of business practice should surely be illegal, they are forcing us to pay and then torturing us with a sadistic routine of ridicule. Whoever designed this program should be utterly humiliated that their sad brain thought of such a pathetic waste of time, although if their intentions were malevolent and they created this program solely for the purpose of driving innocent minds towards insanity then by all means, they've done it, Bob.
ALEKS. The peak of mathematical teaching technology (which isn't saying much). 9 out of 10 teachers recommend this site (so they can kick back and relax and do nothing). Before you ask for a tutor, consider ALEKS for your future math teaching needs. Side effects may include, depression, suicidal thoughts or actions, constipation, anger issues, ovarian cancer, bubonic plague, black plague, loss of appetite, disconnection from family and friends, heartburn, acid reflux, and death. Before using ALEKS, consult your doctor and rethink your life and try to determine the actions that lead to you wanting to use this website. ALEKS, F!@# you!
This program has made me have a mental breakdown multiple times. I am not very good at math but when i truly learn a math topic i really learn it. Aleks has made me forget multiple topics. The way ALEKS is setup actually hurts the students learning. The knowledge checks are annoying and don't even let you do your work and the aleks program itself is terrible its built around topics where you have to do multiple topics except aleks explains the topic horribly. The explanations boil down to "just do it". The UI and Accessibility is also awful. The only good thing about aleks is the assignments which even then is the bare bones and other websites do it better. Do i recommend ALEKS? No. Also for any teachers reading this while it isn't a true replacement freckle.com is pretty good compared to ALEKS its also free.
Answer: Because the ALEKS program is literal hell and we people are just showing our hatred for it
Answer: Most likely.
Answer: Yes deal with it
Answer: Because people want to commit suicide in an original way, and ALEKS is the best way.
Answer: I don't think so but believe me a class action suit would be an improvement
Answer: I paid over $150 for this sumbi**h, I expect it to work
Answer: No i do not think the website owner has issued one but I think the feelings for aleks would be "down the toilet"
Answer: I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it: -Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it. You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again. -How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!
