I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it:

-Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it.
You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again.

-How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!

It is an awful program, your teacher is a terrible educator for choosing it.

Because the creators aren't teachers, they're probably some stupid fat guys in a basement screwing around with html. This site has no teaching strategy, you pretty much figure ALGEBRA 1 HONORS out for yourself wich is hard af

To expand on what Sarah said 9 months ago, yes it takes you back, but that doesn't account for the detail each question requires, where a single aleks question can require 10 parts or more with minimal explanation, EACH part requiring you to use a parenthesis in the right place, or to spell a word correct with a capital letter in the right place (chemistry). It's just fucking awful. Three questions doesn't seem like much but I've spent DAYS in aleks and only made it through 3-4 sections. The best part about it: If you need clarification and click the "explanation" button on a problem after you've completed the first few questions, IT TAKES YOU BACK, and aleks is vague, at best. You end up focusing all of your effort on making it through the section however you can, at the cost of actually learning something. You can't skip anything.
