BEWARE. BEWARE. BEWARE. We tried to book a place in Los Angeles for my birthday only to have my account suddenly deactivated. No explanation, sketchy customer service reps clearly from a different country hung up on me. Emailed me saying they reserve the right to deactivate my account. This was supposed to be a fun trip, had to make other lodging arrangements that turned out to be great. Try a bed & breakfast or hotel, save yourself the heartache. This company won't be around for too much longer. JUST WAIT...
I made a reservation this weekend, with no notification or anything airbnb cancelled my reservation because they didn't like my profile picture? I really am discussed with airbnb... want to sleep in your car then use this service.
I have been a host for Airbnb for over 4 years. I have found that they don't want to help their hosts. I have had things stolen, broken, destroyed, and when I gave the details to Airbnb, they didn't care, they cater to the guests. I have been treated like a second-class citizen and harassed by them, accusing me of lying, and making it up even though I have photos. My last guest was a psycho and I had to call the police to have her escorted out, and still Airbnb didn't care. She not only stole from me, she hid things out in the shed and threw things out in the yard; but still Airbnb, even with photos, didn't believe me.
I will never do business with them on any level. They are destroying themselves all on their own. Hence all the bad ratings.
I will simply never stay at an airbnb, period. I feel the place is just a scam. After they get a uploaded picture of who is staying, AND a picture of your drivers license Front and Back AND your credit card information, they insist on a web cam photo or texting something. I have an old desk top that has no web cam and I don't know how to use a smart phone to download their app and text. Really oppressive site that wants WAY more information that I have ever had to give to any other reservation site Then when you call, you are talking to the Philippines, no English. They will not work with you, all their way or no way. Well... no way it is.
I have been using airbnb for quite some time and I like the concept.
Airbnb is however a very interesting company. While they contact me endlessly, there is no way to contact them.
It is a company that for all practical purposes provides NO support.
I wish they stopped bothering me re reviews. I'll write them when they start to provide support.
I have to say I have never felt so let down. To be told whilst in Johannesburg, 2 days ahead of flying to Capetown that the accommodation that had been booked through Airbnb in Capetown was no longer available was less than ideal. With three children and being a country that you have never visited before this was a challenging situation.
No contact details to enable us to have a conversation just silence! Never use this company. Still waiting for a response and a refund of the bank charges for our bank transfer plus the returned money was sent back in Euros. Diabolical, complete scam. Don't use them, Found a great company that helped us in the end but wasted a whole day of our holiday trying to resolve the situation. Use a company called Capsol to book accommodation in Capetown. They were brilliant!
Any customer service call takes an hour of wait time. Must be called back,. They dont have answers untill days later. I have had bad service. Took days to verify host had a licence to host in a business location. Host not obligated to message or call back. When checking in found homeless squatter and it takes days to get a refund, and several long wait times between more than 5 calls per issue
I booked a home that when I arrived was in a seedy neighborhood with people drinking and hanging out on the corner. I didn't even enter the home. The owner did not answer and the people at Airbnb kept giving me excuses about a refund as I didn't feel safe. The house didn't even look like the picture posted. The bars on the windows of houses next door and the drug deals going on state not a good place to stay but the ad said nice neighborhood. Huh. Not sure if I will ever use this site again and this ruins it for the good hosts
Did you know when you look at prices in foreign currencies and you go to book, all fees stay the same but the 'service fee' that airbnb charges increase. For example, I booked a room in Japan for a week and the first price was 1900 yen but when I clicked 'confirm booking' the price instantly jumped up to 3507 yen... Total fraud!
And get this, the room I rented wasn't even located in the place mentioned. The address was 3 kilometers away!
Beware!
I booked an Air Bnb two months before the trip in Vancouver, CA. The host cancelled it two weeks before my arrival. Although I received full refund, I now cannot get a hotel at a reasonable cost, because the time is too close. So I have to spent MORE in the end. Not worth the time and money.
Airbnb is a Clown Show! They delete reviews warning of violence, insults, discrimination, theft and financial scams to continue profiting from clueless users. They manipulate prices (up to $200 in many cases) and track your behavior to extort more. When a host scams you, Airbnb ignores everything for days, even if you take the case to the local police. They refuse to delete insults by hosts. They have a racial bias. I have reported 5 hosts to the police and Airbnb awarded 4 of them. Multiple women have also been raped in Airbnb accomodations because many Airbnb hosts are psychopaths and Airbnb does nothing about it despite the many warnings. They keep these women silent by paying them, which is just another form of raping them once again. It is abuse after abuse after abuse... Why is nobody suing this company to the ground or at the very least expelling the CEO?
In short, everything is very convenient. Three times I rented a house on the Canaries, through this service and all the times I was very pleased. It is much cheaper than staying in a hotel, and you can rent a really big house and choose any option that suits you. The only difficulty was in payment - I did not have PayPal - I had to register it.
Berlin apartment Oskar & Marijana. Booked this couples apartment in September for a trip in November. They cancelled my booking three days before our stay. No explanation or apology given. Airbnb do not allow you to write a review in this case, as you have not made the trip. Have had to book a hotel at short notice for greater cost. You have been warned!
Upon arrival we found the house to be in poor condition, dirty and hot. We would not be able to stay in the house do to no curtains for privacy on the windows as well as the sunshine heating up the furniture to unbearable degrees. No air conditioning in the house. No drapes to close to avoid the sunshine coming in. We tried to call the hosts but no answer. We called the resolution center immediately and explained. Resolution center contacted hosts Pam and Paul and explained that although we would not be staying at the house at all we would still pay for one night. We were a total of 1 hour at the house before departing to find other accommodations. After multiple calls still waiting on a refund.
Customer service was fantastic. They made sure I had the correct part, gave me options for shipping, and got my part to me when I needed it. The part worked great. I would definitely use PartSelect again.
I spent over 2 hours looking around the Miami area to spend the Mother's Day holiday there. I finally find this rbn b.com so decided give them a chance. I gave them all my personal information I gave them my driver's licence to front the back everything. Hours later I get an email telling me that they had to cancel my reservation and they are going to reform me my money but it will take up to 5 days which I think is pure BS. It should be that if you cancel someone's reservation after everything that I went through the get it then they should refund you the money mediately into your account. I can't give this RB and b.com a lower star than a one if I could I would give it a -0 because they are truly full of $#*!.
Carefully, you are planning something and for a week suddenly... the owner cannot provide the accomodation. One has repairs, the other does not know how to use the calendar. And a week before you moving especially in the summer, prices are completely different. You will be offered compensation - 10% of the total cost of the reservation, but the prices for booking somewhat 50% or more. And according to the rules of the service, you only deserve a discount if the owner cancels the reservation in less than 48 hours...
Airbnb "Verification process" to PAY to rent a home includes submitting a photo, entering all usual ID info, including birthdate, verifying your phone number by entering a number they text you, then submitting a front & back photo of your driver's license. I thought this was a bit much, but okay I did it. After entering the former information I was asked to submit my complete credit card info, okay, time to pay, I entered this thinking that I must be done. NO-- next is a screen stating the need for access to either my Facebook or Gmail account AND allowing them to use all of my contacts. After much effort I was able to find a way to communicate with someone at Airb&b, thinking there must be mistake, anyone can see that this is unreasonable. Nope, without either of the latter, I can't rent from them. I am amazed that a company do this. They can only do this if we let them, will you join me in not allowing this by taking your business elsewhere?
I booked a unit off airbnb and paid in full. Host contacts me and tells me I need to cancel the booking due to the host getting caught renting a unit that was not supposed to be used as an airbnb. When I try to cancel, it states I will only get 50% back. I contact airbnb and they do honor the refund in full but insist on sending the money back to a closed account. I repeatedly asked for the refund to be sent via check, on to another credit card, in a credit form with airbnb so I could book a different unit for a fast approaching trip and they refused. They sent my refund back to the closed account and my $1000 is now bouncing back and forth between the two. Airbnb customer service has been horrible! Rude, having a "not my problem" attitude and doing nothing to help me. WORST COMPANY EVER!
I made a reservation and realized I needed to cancel it a few days later (37 days out from date). Airbnb charged me $43 to cancel. That is a lot of money for the computer to make a couple of changes. I will be looking at other options in the future.
Answer: AirBnB is the worst. You might be able to go to the resolution centre, but previous posts are correct. Watch your money with them. Once they make an error it's hard to get it back. You may have to go through the credit card you charged it to and even then the dispute process might take awhile. Hopefully, you have other money to use in the mean time or the date of your trip is at least weeks out? They are asking you to "verify your ID" so they can gain access to your linked in, Facebook and google contacts. They say it's a security measure to protect you and everyone else but it's not. They are pirating your info. They take your contacts and use it as a marketing tool for themselves or sell the contacts to other distributors. It's very common with sites like this now. If you want to continue using AirBnB you have no choice unfortunately.
Answer: Being a host, I can say that when things are going good, all is great, but if something goes wrong, as a host, you will not get the support from Airbnb that is promised. They do not stand behind their hosts, I find they like to a facade that all is great in the land of Airbnb. I have cancelled my listing and will not deal with them anymore in the future.
Answer: As a host & licensed realtor with multiple properties in both Los Angeles & Las Vegas which I book directly and also have listed with multiple vacation rental agencies, SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY & AGGRAVATION by booking either DIRECTLY with the host or through other REPUTABLE Agencies, such as Roomorama.
Answer: I haven't been a host, but would certainly recommend that you read ALL the reviews here before getting involved with Airbnb. I can't think of ANY business of ANY type I would patronize that got a 1.5 star rating after 382 reviews.
Answer: They offered $25 discount of next booking I just chose to go else where
Answer: You don't. The only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have a problem Airbnb will be unreachable. They hide from dissatisfied customers and hosts alike. You are taking big chances when you deal with them. The benefits just aren't worth the risks.
Answer: No, you would be lucky and have to fight to get a refund if you cancel 1 day after you make the reservation!
Answer: Hello, First, the credit card co. Needs to be notified and will refund the amount spent. In turn, the cc co. Will backcharge. Airbnb is notorious for these types transactions and should be shutdown. Your son has learned a business lesson... research a business prior to do business!
Answer: This is the root of my problem with AIRBNB. They do not check to see if a host can legitimately rent the place they are advertising. In my experience, the host cancelled 48 hours before, claimed she was going to be evicted if she rented to me. I was only 3000 miles from home. AIRBNB offered me a 10% discount to rebook another place. I did not and will not use them again.
Answer: Susan's answer is very thorough and I agree with her. Even more important when booking places outside your country of origin to ensure you don't get a flea pit. Also, always look at the reviews, they are very important. If there is a really bad review, don't stay there. You need to check the locations online as well. You don't want to be in a bad, dangerous area... this just happened to someone staying in Philadelphia. If you have a problem, the AirBnB website is useless. Google the AirBnB customer service number from your location. Renee
Airbnb has a rating of 1.5 stars from 2,084 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Airbnb most frequently mention customer service, credit card and full refund. Airbnb ranks 441st among Hotels sites.
