A friend gave me a gift subscription to Acorn. Beyond the free week, after which I was required to subscribe (I didn't) I can't tell you how I liked the channel. But I can tell you how I dislike the Customer UnService. It's pitiful. It's nonexistent. When someone would respond to an email, their help was to call me a valued customer, send me to a subscription site, and not answer my question. I was able to talk to a human once, who also gave me no help. I have repeatedly asked them to refund the money to my friend, which they have not done. Recommend Acorn TV? Not just no, but no way!
My wife and I are retired and I am disabled. We enjoy a lot of British shows so we signed up for a "free" trial week of Acorn TV. We discovered that the app barely functions. An hour to download a show, multiple times attempting to start watching while it glitched out, shows blinking off in the middle and being unable to start them again.
We also discovered Acorn didn't have much content that we cared to watch or that we didn't have access to a different way.
So we canceled our Acorn the day before it was set to renew (for what they said would result in a charge of $7.99 per month.) We took a screenshot of the confirmation stating it would not renew and we would not be charged.
We also received two emails from Acorn stating our subscription was canceled, would not renew and we would not be charged.
The following day (the renewal date) Acorn took not just the $7.99 for the first month out of our bank account, but rather over $75 for an entire year!
I immediately called Acorn's customer service and was told their system showed we had NOT canceled even though we had multiple email confirmations FROM ACORN TV stating we had canceled.
They assured us they would cancel it right then and escalate a ticket to their business department for a refund, which they told us would be refunded that day. They also said we'd get an email confirming the refund.
You guessed it-- no email and no refund.
As far as we're concerned they are thieves and liars.
I am a newer subscriber to Acorn TV and thoroughly adore all the programs. It has a wide range of programs to peak all interest.
Being able to view all my favorites on the go is wonderful. I watch it on my Apple Ipad, Iphone 6S, and my PC.
If you've never checked out Acorn TV your missing out.

Thank you Acorn Customer Service. I was having a horrible time logging in. I sent in a request ticket for help and got a new password assigned within 1 hour - I am now logged in and enjoying My Acorn TV!
Yes. I subscribe through Roku, and my account is auto paid. I am unable to log in. Roku customer service is atrocious and I am hoping that I can go around them. Please advise. I am on the verge of canceling.
I unsubscribed after free month trial. Its been 6 months since and I am being charged again on last 4 bills. I did not reactivate and according to my subscription I am still unsubscribed. I have learned a lesson and will not subscribe to free trials again.
The picture at Acorn tv is BLURRY and constantly buffering. They're cheating people with an inferior product. There's nothing wrong with our money that you take - but there's something seriously wrong with the product you provide in return Acorn!
If you sign up, DO NOT pay them annually. Their App no longer works with Samsung and I only received a refund upon noticing I had not received one and contacting them to ask about it. 2 months after cancellation, I have received a refund.
We wait for monday when we will have new shows. Nothing but Murdock, which we love but no good mysteries. Dominion creek is nothing more than a canadian DEADWOOD. We are not crazy about PIE IN THE SKY. Rake maybe good, we don't care for it. We have started to go to other channels to get FATHER BROWN. What's going on with you guys? We loved Acorn at first but now you are going the wrong way.
I have had Acorn tv since it began streaming and loved it for several years but in the last year it has become worthless. Their programming director should be fired as they add 1 new program a week usually with 1 or maybe 2 episodes only, most are documentaries about WW2 or travel. The few British series they have added this last few years are 20 plus years old and the worst series I have ever seen "all in good faith" was not watchable nor is "straight forward" the newest Swedish series this week. I am cancelling Acorn but keeping BRITBOX as their programming is much superior to Acorn. I would recommend switching to BritBox if you love British TV as I do. Debra D
I don't understand why this company cannot solve the problems in its app which have garnered Acorn TV uniformly terrible reviews in the online reviewer community. I am constantly calling Customer Service (human being -- 888/370-2597). In contrast, I have NEVER had to call Netflix Customer Service.
It appears that no one at Acorn TV is monitoring online comments. Perhaps they simply don't care that their company is becoming a laughingstock.
Subscribed 2 years ago (in the U.S.) with no problem. Renewed this year, nothing but issues! The 'RESUME' doesn't work on 2 different Rokus in the same house. Doesn't matter which show, if we stop before it's over, then press the RESUME button to continue, it starts from the beginning every single time! We have reached out to customer service so many times and they respond with a ridiculous list of items they want from us that have absolutely NOTHING to do with this issue! They got our money, they don't give a damn about fixing the issue! In the latest email, they are blaming our internet speed. It 'must be between 15-20mb'. We tested our speed and it is 65mb! Besides, what does that have to do with 'RESUME'? We can watch the shows fine, nothing to do with 'RESUME'. It's a playback issue on THEIR end and they are making us jump through ridiculous hoops for nothing! Just so we stop asking and go away because they can't or don't want to fix the issue?!
What is going on with Acorn TV. I used to be able to watch without any streaming issues on my Samsung 4K Smart TV, lately the videos freeze up and re-set and then I have to go back to the main menu and scroll through the menus to resume watching. I want my money back, but I've paid through August 2019. I cannot get any response from Customer Service--do they have anyone at the Service Desk? I am so disappointed the quality and do not recommend Acorn TV anymore.
I cancelled Acorn 4 months ago and still getting charged. After more emails and lies they won't help. I even sent the original email confirmation from them when I cancelled. Acorn say's I am still connected through a carrier? Although I only ran it through a Roku box. So don't get involved. They really lied about 30day free trial, billed me the minute I signed up. FRUSTRATED AND STILL PAYING.
I have enjoyed programs on Acorn TV--I'm a great fan of British TV. After about a month I have gone through most of the programs that I wanted to see. I assumed that new programs would be forthcoming. NONE HAVE. I have tried to communicate with Acorn for about two weeks: getting the royal run around. I suggest trying Acorn until you have seen what you want and then going to other British sites like BritBox.
What happened to the "WATCHLIST" on Samsung Smart TV's? I've been a yearly subscriber to Acorn TV since Day #1. And up until 2 months ago. The WATCHLIST segment has completely disappeared. I find myself handicapped without the Watchlist. And am totally frustrated! My version of Acorn TV has not been updated since September 2015. I would think that a major asset of Samsung Smart TV would be shaking hands with Acorn TV. But apparently this is definitely NOT the case. Sad. Very sad!
Terrible! One day I can wath a show and the next day I get a messahe saying it is or not available in my geographic location. Furthermore I can not find out which shows are are/not available in Canada. It is terribly frustrating. What I did find a shows are or are not available. It seems we get only shows that ate 10 years or older whichi can get anywhere else for free.
There is a reason so many Acorn.tv users write bad reviews. It's rubbish/garbage. The video is choppy at best, assuming you can get it to work at all. There is no customer service. You'll be lucky to get a form letter after a few days, claiming to extend your service for a free month. That's all you're ever going to get from them. No help. No support. No nothing. Just a form letter telling you that you can have another month of rubbish for free.
It's very strange that free introductions work better than paid. Mine worked adequately before, but after they got my money, it stopped. My requests for help went unanswered. Just automated replies that they had received my messages.
You don't need to take my word for it. Read other reviews. They all say pretty much the same thing. It will work adequately using a browser or an Android or Apple iOS device. Otherwise you'll have problems. Don't try streaming it using Roku or Amazon Fire or Apple TV. Don't try to stream it from your Android or Apple device to your television set or to other devices.
Update 3/11/20:
I recently learned that most, if not all, problems with this website are related to whatever copy protection scheme they are using. Apparently it's antiquated security that isn't compatible with most modern devices.
Got it mostly for the last season of Foyles war but checked other things while I still had it. The content is fairly good, alot of the series can't be found elsewhere in Sweden (where I live), so that's good. However, the app for Apple TV is a joke! It's hard to navigate, it reacts super slow to browsing, and after each episode it freezes so I had to restart the app to watch the next episode. For the price the content is really good, but if the app doesn't work you can have the greatest content in the world, I'll still keep to Netflix and HBO.
Could only watch about 5 minutes of new show Murder Investigation Team because filming technique of? Handheld? Camera to jerky giving me nausea and a headache.
Answer: The best way to get Acorn is to subscribe through Amazon Prime, if you have that. Streaming is immeasurably better and you don't have to deal with Acorn's dishonest business practices.
