Several shows have horrible quality picture. Customer service is non-existent. I contacted them several times with programming questions and after many weeks got an email stating that hopefully my problem was resolved by then, and if not, to open another ticket! They charge me different amounts each month. I was finally able to get them on Facebook Messenger but they refused to answer my question about being charged inaccurate amounts. Cancelling my subscription. Too much good competition from which to choose.
These people have been charging my mother twice for service (which she assumed cancelled at the end of the year). They had absolutely no interest in help[ing her despite it being an obvious mistake. They are rubbish.
Acorn offers wonderful BBC content, much of which is old and has been on PBS. Customer service is slow, often is a computer-generated email, and it misses the target. I enjoyed the programs for 2 years. Best to buy this month-by-month and expect little if any help with problems, especially their accounting!
I watch on a PC using a Browser and this is the issue.
1) You can't add or remove items into/from your watch list.
2) What you watch doesn't show up in your Recently Watched list.
3) Previously view episodes in a series are not underlined so you need to keep track yourself.
4) They only stream up to 560p.
5) They buffer constantly. (not a network issue)
In my own testing Safari Browser works the best as it's very efficient. Firefox is slow but can work ok but Chrome, what Acorntv recommends is the worst.
Acorntv knows all of this, I have spoken with then on the phone yet they won't fix any of it. They prefer you use their app or go through Prime Video and pay monthly. They make more money that way. There's no incentive to go through a browser and pay yearly for them.
I signed for year which ends next January … I won't renew. BritBox is a better choice.
This may be the most affordable streaming service with prices starting at $4.99 per month and $49.99 per year. They'll give you a week to try it for free. I didn't expect much because of the cheap price but now i find myself watching Acorn TV more than the other channels. Their customer service was very pleasant and professional the one time i contacted them for assistance getting the service setup on my TV. I highly recommend subscribing.
Shows are great. Terrific. FANtastic.
BUT, the support sucks big time.
I'm having trouble watching on my Samsung Smart TV.
Sent 4 inquiries in the past 4 weeks, got 4 responses that the e-mail was received and an Acorn representative will respond to your request shortly. Not a word yet and the problem persists. They should do better.
No way to get a human on the phone.
Totally disgusted in NJ.
Doc Martin is a favorite, and i never noticed it's cast was all white. But on ACORN's opening screen every face is white. Very sorry i subscribed for a year! And as others have mentioned some shows are extremely low res adn blurry. Good grief!
I had signed on to Acorn TV for a month or two several times over the last few years. Never had a problem canceling when I wanted to switch to something else. They have some good shows that can keep you entertained for a while (Murdoch Mysteries, Midsummer Murders, Foyle's War, George Gently etc.)
It is now 41 days after the review and many calls and written requests for help. I have received general feedback asking if I am happy with the fix. What fix? No fix. I wanted to write a positive update but am unable to do so simply because these guys are beyond incompetent. An issue exist in their software which they are unwilling to acknowledge. I have changed email, passwords, servers, IP's, OS, devices and location. Somehow, somewhere deep in the underbelly of this beast is a software glitch that they will not acknowledge.
So, find an alternative would be my best suggestion. If what you have works, then great, keep it. The first sign of problems, resolve it or run for the hills.
Three months of the same code error preventing us from playing any programmes on any device any where on the planet. That includes at home.
So many request for help TOTALLY ignored. We were one of the very first to sign up when AcornTV started and never had cause to contact them. After years of loyal subscription this is the outcome. The shows are good but God forbid you need help. They are totally incompetent and unwilling to reveal a human element in the discussion. I would strongly advise you avoid these folks until they get their act together. Before this three month long fiasco I would have highly recommend them. Now... never!
Acorn has been a huge disappointment. First, we found out that the charge was in American funds, which was not mentioned at any point when signing up; between the exchange rate and bank fees, it was significantly more expensive than expected. Secondly, many programmes are not available in Canada, and unlike Netflix, those shows are listed so that you discover they're not available only when you select them. Third, the application doesn't work well; links often just don't work. Spend your money elsewhere.
I have subscribed to Acorn TV for over four years with just a few minor issues. I recently decided to cancel the service due to lack of new content. Many shows can be viewed elsewhere. I have now asked an unbelievable FIVE times to cancel my account and send me email confirmation. I have yet to receive anything but their standard "ticket" form which amounts to nothing. Yesterday, amazingly they mailed me to say they could no longer access my credit card to charge my fee. This is because I have now had to cancel my card in order to stop them charging my account. This beggars belief, either they are totally stupid or think their customers are. I have read several complaints from customers who they have also continued to charge after closing their accounts. Seems this is standard practice so I must conclude they are a shady bunch. Be wary of opening an account with these people.
I have tried to log in several times over the last 2 hours and nothing is happening.
After reading all the negative reviews, I am considering cancelling my account. Great shows if I could only see them...
Acorn offers an impressive selection of British tv series but only the current season is included in your subscription. Earlier seasons are available only through iTunes at $2.99 an episode or $14.99 per season, as we discovered in the series "Vera". The same proved to be true for other offerings. Decided to cancel after first viewing session and truly disappointed that iTunes is in on the deal. Now hoping the cancellation will actually go through without continued billing to my credit card, as has apparently happened with many other disappointed customers.
I tried to quit Acorn starting in February and finally got some success in July. Even though we did not watch any shows during that time they 'agreed' to a refund and sent two months' worth but had already charged us again on June 29 in spite of my various emails and calls so in effect we got one refund. Acorn needs to get their people on the ball to respond quickly and effectively to customers' issues. This has soured our relationship with the company and though we enjoyed the site at the beginning we quickly ran out of good shows to watch. There are so many streaming sites to choose from — we won't be back.
The content of this 'medium' is really poor and access through Apple TV is pathetic. What they do in nauseating frequency is email you with totally useless non related products its twice a day. I'm not interested in floral dresses...
When I asked for a cancellation refund they ignored my request.
This is classic consumer abuse
I have subscribed for months now and they keep telling me it will be fixed "next week". Samsung is wonderful, but Acorn is a joke. They put out a streaming product before it worked and continue to do so. The keep repeating "we are working on it" while taking your money an not doing any software fixes. Months on end.
I'm going to cancel even though I love the offerings. This service is awful. Streaming just stops in the middle of watching. No way to correct other than start over... and last two days it isn't working at all. I get a black screen when I try to watch a show..
At first ok, found a series which we enjoyed. The next was problematic - episodes unavailable because of this (... code)! Some good videos most are ancient or for the simple minded. No decent ones like Dads 'Army or 'One Foot in The Grave. We got tired of the choices and tired of reception problems then signing on was told my membership was at an end! But they still took the money! Battle still going - thick people. So don't know where we are but no refunds so watch out.
Do Not Subscribe! Free trial lapsed before I found out that this product cannot be used on a Samsung Smart TV, there is sound only, no images! When I tried to unsubscribe, there is no facility to do so on their website. After I sent two emails, the answer came back " Unsubscribe through your iTunes account"... Well, I have never had an Itunes account. I have had to involve my bank for help. Do not use! Subscriptions from reliable companies should be simple and user friendly to cancel should you want.
After reading the poor reviews, I think the problem may come from some of the smart Tv's. If you stream through Roku 1 or 2 the older models which can cost you about $50 bucks or cheaper used, you'don't have no problems. If so, give Roku a call, they will help you connect. This should work. Good luck!
Answer: The best way to get Acorn is to subscribe through Amazon Prime, if you have that. Streaming is immeasurably better and you don't have to deal with Acorn's dishonest business practices.
