Nightmare
August 1, 2023

From time of PAID membership my first mail was sent OUT OF STATE to my son's home whom I NEVER used his address! Every time I try to purchase discount gift cards it's a problem. From failed transactions to getting emails that ARE NOT related to my attempted purchase! Employees are very nice and helpful but WHAT IS AARP ITSELF DOING HERE?!

It is a left wing democratic organization! Now they're having children join their organization, which is ludicrous because it's for 65 and over! Anything to make a buck!

Auto Insurance= FUBAR
November 3, 2022

A10/13 email to the AARP CEO has not solved my Fouled Up Beyond All Reason experiences with their endorsed The Hartford. The email response from AARP Member Relations said "... we expect our providers to offer an exceptional level of customer service..." This Not My Experience before or after I contacted AARP!

Insanity at AARP
March 17, 2020

I called to change my email address and the customer service person made a mistake and wiped out my account so that I was asked to pay dues that were just paid and asked to join AARP rewards which I had already joined and had about 3700 points on that day. I then spent over three hours trying to get these points restored including speaking with two supervisors one of which promised to get back with me and never did and the other said there was nothing she could do to correct the mistake. Given that AARP had just taken away 13,700 points in the Rewards for Good a few months ago (these are points you have to earn with surveys and exams), I think that I would advise everyone to be very wary of this organization. They do not have the ability to correct their employees errors and care very little about their members. They also seem to have very limited understanding of problem solving instead preferring to ask the same questions over and over. They have little concern about the fact that an employee mistake costs their member 3700 points and three hours of wasted time. This is insanity.

No benefit
February 29, 2020

If you compare what they offer for just about everything, you can do better somewhere else. I have no idea where the money I sent to them is going. I still have 2 more years, but I will not renew.

I am 51! And in to road trips and travel. Use Priceline like sites for rent a cars, hotels. You get both for half the price aarp offer's. 16$ a year to get only food discounts from fast food restaurants.not worth it. AARP IS A 16$ SEARCH SITE THAT HOPES YOU DON'T SEARCH Elsewhere to find way cheaper prices. I am cancelling my membership.

The attendant was very nice as I was calling for someone else however the AARP options for the elderly are truly dreadful — you've got to be on welfare or completely stupid as there's no intellectual stimulation outside of bingo and then there's the "friendship line" uff just awful — The AARP should just say there's nothing because this condescending stuff angers me to no end. So bottom line there's nothing

Though I have an elderly family member who is a member of AARP, I refuse to join AARP until the organization severs all promotional and financial ties with Consumer Cellular. We were recently taken for a ride by the unscrupulous hoods at Consumer Cellular and it was not a pleasant or picturesque trip.

DESERVES NO STARS
January 29, 2022

AARP has proven repeatedly that their focus is to receive money from the elderly for their personal gain while risking the health and wellness on the elderly. My elderly mother has spent countless hours attempting to receive her medication. Each agent misleads her falsifying that they are addressing her medical needs. I, too, have become involved in contacting the agency regarding my mother's medication and have received the same results. The higher ups are apparently supporting this toxic behavior since there is no accountability nor change when matters are reported. This experience is consistent. More than once, the agent has disconnected the phone call or sent me to the automatic system when they don't wish to assist. My advice is for seniors to order medications from their local pharmacy instead of any of the mail orders since they all have no regards for the seniors health. Their lack of concern for seniors receiving their medications upon receiving funds could result in the loss of life when the medication is used to sustain life. The only way to have your complaint heard would be to send a certified letter to the director and make copies prior to doing so.

After many years with AARP, I see that there are better options with similar organizations that offer benefits but without the liberal political agenda. We all need choices, and I am choosing to leave AARP.

Disappointed
December 5, 2018

I just cancelled my membership of many years.
I had Humana, I came down with a pulled muscle during exercise I went to rehabilitation and paid one time fee of 10.00 dollars.
I changed to the AARP United Health Care, I came down with sciatica, needed rehabilitation but with United it would have cost me $40.00 per visit, so I could not afford to received the treatment, therefore I am leaving UNITED.
For many years I had AARP affiliate home and auto insurance, a friend who also left ARRP recommended I check else where, I did and found the same exact coverage on both policies for $996.00 dollars less than what I was paying with AARP sponsored insurance.
You would think that AARP would use the volume as leverage to negotiate lower prices and better service but as my experience reveals that is not the case

AARP Raping Seniors
September 30, 2023

Sept 2023 we received our auto/home bundle policy renewal. Auto insurance went up $62 per month and Homeowners insurance went up $545 per year. I spoke with a AARP representative who told me that the increase was due to replacement cost and repairs were more expensive. I've never filed a claim. Raise the insurance cost to people who file claims. The raise in cost monthly was substantial and after comparing quotes with 5 well known Companies we realized that for years AARP had been raping us with high fees. AARP constantly pushes their membership for 16.00 per year which saves you 189.00 a year from your bundle. This (savings) is still does not help with the sustainability higher rates AARP charges. We found auto insurance with the same coverage for $100 less per month. We found our Homeowner policy with better coverage for $1300.00 less per year. I thought AARP was for seniors who drove less, etc. This I found to be untrue. Their membership just creates a lot of constant junk mail. AARP should be canceled on social media as so many other person and companies have. This company rapes and robs their customers.

I really think when AARP first started their intentions were good to really advocate for the 50+ community, but it has evolved into a racket of deceit and lies just to rip off the elderly. I work as a CSR and was shocked at how they operated once I started the job. They mail out excessive renewal notices to its members to confuse them into sending in more money to renew when in most cases they don't need to at the time. They have it set up to create duplicate accts on members also when they send in their payments. Most of the times they are not even aware they are paying for 2 accts. Its just sickening! I try to catch and correct as many as possible when I see them but this thing is a big racket. They send out letters for donations that have members thinking they have to make a donation. PPL have called in complaining about these excessive renewal notifications and letters for donations. They stress the CSR to get memberships over really helping the member. They don't want you spend a little extra time on the phone and help someone who really needs it. Third party vendors are horrible also. All they want is your money by anyway they can get it!

Interesting articles, with good information in the magazine. They're not as good as they used to be but what is nowadays? LOL I honestly don't know much about the business-end but it has 'been there' quite a few times for me, mostly for getting roadside service... like figuring out what's wrong, can it be fixed roadside or can it be fixed in their shop. Most of the time, it was fixed roadside.

They've come out and jumped my car, and once, made arrangements for towing and next day service while putting us up in a hotel while we waited for parts to arrive in from out of town. Met some nice people, even got my car washed for free! I was impressed! AND it did not cost us an arm & a leg! Normal prices!

Once, years and years ago (like in 1986 or so) I was driving my Mom's vehicle for her to Las Cruses and had the catalytic converter fail! We were on the US/Mexico border. Took the guys like five hours but they removed the old one and put in a new one! I was surprised and VERY impressed! Not a word of English was spoken but between the four of us (me and my 2 yr old son plus two mechanics), the job was done perfectly, using Mom's AARP card and my VISA with a hefty tip! Amazing service!

I was super impressed!

I could not remember if I signed up for AARP and got something in the mail that said I had expired. Asked the web what was my membership dates and could not get the information. Reregistered and low and behold instead of the 3 years I had bought I had evidently bought 4 years previously, and my membership would not expire until 2027, UGH

After being an unpaid AARP Rewards for Good member for close to a year and completing countless quizzes to earn points to use on discounted giftcards, I purchased a 5 year paid AARP membership in Feb 2019. Very shortly thereafter, the AARP website had a error/glitch which allowed one code to be used more than once. After using around 20 shared codes from friends/family, AARP locked my Rewards for Good access and made it impossible to use/redeem the 90,000 points I earned before the website error/glitch. Each time, I called customer service, I was given a different answer/explanation and after a month, I am still locked out of the Rewards for Good section of the AARP website. I expected better from AARP.

I joined AARP to reap the benefits afforded to people over 50 but was shocked by what I did get. Endless snail mail offering Life Insurance etc. I finally had to google for a method to get it stopped, and did. A constant stream of emails that when opened were so completely cluttered it made me tired just looking at them. They offered so many choices of things to read and advertisements it was mind blowing. I had to unsubscribe from several of them to keep my box from filling up with AARP. After a couple of years, I've only used my discount once. It has been a complete disappointment.
It occurred to me that AARP is more interested in making $$$ than it is in serving the needs of the elderly. I wish a new program would be developed for those of us 50+ that focused on simplicity could be generated featuring articles that are decluttered and pertinent to our situations. (In fairness AARP does have some of these.) A tab for information like Life Insurance, Hearing Aids, Long Term Care Information etc. only if you want it, not sent to everyone. A place to access all the benefits of the program to learn what discounts your membership entitles you to. A section for travel and recommendations of companies all streamlined and easy to access.

I called today for an auto insurance quote. The insurance agent, Jake Bryant, was polite, but was not knowledgeable and during our 18 minute phone conversation excused himself for inordinately long periods to consult with a supervisor regarding elementary questions. My concern is that Bryant may be representative of THE HARTFORD auto insurance business model. That said AARP, independent of THE HARFORD is a great Represetative of its members.
