I ordered a ring advertised as 14K gold with a hallmark and "excellent craftsmanship." What I received looked and felt cheap: no visible hallmark, dull and uneven finish, and sharp, unfinished prongs that could damage clothing. The ring resembled costume jewelry, not a $588 luxury piece. The seller was dismissive, replying "Is your complain about prongs?" and even referenced diamond certificates on an amethyst ring. Completely unprofessional. The item arrived 11 days late, and I was traveling. I reported the issue 12 days after delivery, and 1stDibs refused to help—hiding behind their 7-day policy, despite clear misrepresentation and delayed shipping. They also asked me to pay for a third-party lab report or cover international return costs, including customs and a 22% tax loss on the seller's side. For a "luxury platform," the lack of accountability was shocking. This was a complete waste of money. I'll never shop with 1stDibs again.
Easy to complete the bid and purchase process. It was my first time bidding, so I didn't know that I would actually be paying. I was fine with this, because I really want these items, however, I suggest that you put some tab on your main page about how the process works.

This is my first purchase on this site. So far so great! Quick responses have made this process easy.
Impossible to get help. Sent numerous emails; chatted via their app; telephoned in... nothing works. I can add inventory, I can see inventory, I can pay $ and feature items, but all items in inventory display as unavailable and no one can see the items. They say my account is closed, but I can log in and do everything as I have been over the past few months, but nothing is displayed to customers. I DID NOT REQUEST TO CLOSE IT; IT SEEMS THAT I HAVE NOT HAD ANY VIEWS OF ITEMS FOR MAYBE ABOUT 10 DAYS; NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED, HOW IT HAPPENED, BUT I HAVENT MADE ANY PROGRESS WITH THEM OVER THE PAST 9 DAYS OR REACHING OUT. They tell me, twice, they are sending a link to set up a call, but no link is received. They have verified that my email is correct. No emails are in Spam/Junk folder. And NOW, it is the weekend AGAIN, and they don't work on the weekends. I wanted to liquidate and put items on sale and Im stuck. Their support team and customer service is TOTALLY USELESS.
The seller was amazing, was kind enough to hold the piece until I got my reupholstry company sorted out to give them the proper address. Was very helpful with all my questions. Highly recomend.

This system is far too sophisticated for old country people and non-New Yorkers. I give you five stars for the idea, the workability of your system and the brilliant laywer[s] who drew your contract. But I thought two stars would get you to "hear" me.
I have found First Dibs to be a reliable source for quality furnishings and continue to shop with them.
4 times I have "purchased" items only to be told anywhere from 4 days to 3 weeks. My items had been sold and I would be getting a refund. If you charge my cc then you have sold the item. Not providing it is fraud and breech of contract. Doesn't matter if you credit my the charge or not. That was not what I agreed to.

Answer: It's a real company. But as I have learned by experience their policies and buyer protection are a scam. They mark up prices and sell high. You over spend and no way to get a refund. I'm highly disappointed in their ethics. Don't buy, look elsewhere.
