The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

My experience with Yelp has been beyond deceitful and crooked. As soon as I tried to cancel, Yelp added a bad review to my reviews that I received from my customers and kept back 5 star reviews in the "Not Recommended" folder at the bottom. I was told by a Yelp rep that if the person leaving the review doesn't have enough history with Yelp, that those reviews may be held back from posting on the position that most people look for them. If you look below where the reviews are normally seen and go down to a gray text line that say's, "Not Recommended" there may be some reviews held there that obviously Yelp doesn't feel those reviews should get the same respect as other reviews above that are easily seen. Just terrible and they have also charged me for leads that I have never received. Just as corrupt a company as any company I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing could ever be.
It was unfortunate to sign up with Yelp in the hopes that I would experience new customers, but little did I know that My calls and connections were in California, since I am in tampa this was a problem that I had to look in to. I was told that it was only because people were using their home cell phones while in the Tampa bay area, not so as one person gave me her address in Sacramento. Needless to say the advertising went on without any new leads. I canceled but am being threatened saying I received the service. Spending your money in the hopes of building new clients but spending your money on areas that will do you absolutely no good is truly misleading as to their purpose of advertising for you. I had spent 1000. 00 with them before I could block them from my bank account. The unfortunate thing is not one customer, not one did I even talk to that was from the Tampa Bay area. As they are a company out of California misleading customers in other parts of the US. As they are writing, calling, threatening, I am doing a review. Beware. I am a Business owner in Tampa and tampa is where my advertising should go. Agree?
So you get a couple of bad reviews, then they call you and they say for $270 a month they can do things to your page which will drive people to your site. Hmmm... how? I ask... They then tell you all sports of nonsense, but the reality is they MANIPULATE THE RATINGS. Once you stop paying ALL YOU GET ARE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!
I got a sales call from one of Yelp's sale people (Marcus) and agreed to try Yelp for a month to see how if changed my business. I also agreed to spend only $300 for the month, as that was my budget. At the end of the month they billed my credit card for $497.00, and refused to discuss the over-charge with me. As the whole thing was a verbal sale, I got stuck with the charge. They also indicated that I had over 200 hits on my website, I have a counter on my website and it certainly did not show these numbers. I would highly recommend staying away from Yelp as your advertising marketplace unless you have money to burn. Dishonest Dishonest Dishonest Dishonest Dishonest Dishonest!
I visited the restaurant on a Sunday after church with my family. We only went here because our usual spot nearby [Caravelle] was booked for a wedding. What a mistake. To start, the wait person [older female] did NOT speak good English. She wasn't friendly; just there to take the order. I ordered green beans with beef. I'm 100% sure that I ordered beef. Anyway, when my food came out my dish was green beans with chicken. I kindly reminded the waitperson and she swore me up and down that I did order chicken. I insisted that I needed what I ordered. She grabbed the plate from under my hands and took it back and within minutes comes back and almost throws the plate with beef onto the table. Long story short, this person NEVER stops by our table again, looks at us... nothing the entire time we are there. We did not get drink refills, no to go boxes [we asked someone else] nor did we get a thank you. The other two wait people who brought check, to go boxes made no eye contact with us, just dropped the things [boxes, check] at the table. NOTHING. Also my daughter ordered steamed rice. The waitperson [older female] who brought her fried rice and said, "oh, I'll just give you this for free" and left a small bowl on the table. When we asked the waitperson for the white rice, she yanked her "courtesy" fried rice (untouched by us] off the table and brings the white rice. All the errors were caused by her so not sure why she was so unpleasant. My [remake] food was out so quickly after the order which, at a dine in restaurant, is NOT a good thing. The food was poor, poor quality. I noticed that several of my green beans were black (like spoiled) and the beef was tough. Yuck, yuck, yuck. There is nothing good or pleasing about this place. It's old and dingy, dirty. Save you and your family the anguish and headache... try another restaurant in the area, Chinatown. STAY FAR AWAY - mean unfriendly people and nasty food!
Sadly, a local pediatrician (Dr. Kevin Grant MD of Folsom) has repeatedly been able to get my very honest and factual Yelp reviews removed. This is very unfortunate because Yelp is thereby not helping the public when it comes to protecting them from unscrupulous businesses.
It therefore appears that we need to also check Facebook for "negative" reviews that provide the "dark" side of some businesses, especially medical and dental businesses.
On the other end of the spectrum, I have a new dentist subsequent to my long-term dentist selling out his practice. I am very pleased with this new dentist and his hygienist who I never knew prior to the transfer of the business. I placed the first Yelp review (for the new name of the business). I gave him very high ratings so others would know his new business exists and that I believe he is top notch. His name is Dr. Chee Chang with "Smile Care Family Dental" of Sacramento.
Shockingly Yelp knocked out my first customer review because they think I am related to him (I am Caucasian and he is Chinese!). There is no way to challenge these actions by Yelp. So now they are knocking out both a great review for great businesses and also a bad review of a business.
I had so much faith and trust in Yelp. Their recent actions have greatly shaken my belief that I can fully trust Yelp to provide honest business reviews that happen to be exceedingly good or exceedingly bad.
The bad review was for "Dr. Kevin Grant MD" who is the owner of Folsom Lake Pediatrics. Somehow he influenced Yelp to remove a fully substantiated review that identifies very serious and documented character and integrity deficiencies.
People need to know who to trust and who to be concerned about in the medical and dental area. If doctors or dentists are unscrupulous and lack integrity you want to know this from the experiences of others instead of painfully learning it the hard way yourself.
Bottom line is that it appears you need to go to the only known review forums (i. E., Facebook) to see the really favorable review comments and especially the ones that can protect you from potential disaster with an unscrupulous business.
Young Living is the worst run business I have come across in a long time. This is very unfortunate because I like the essential oils. I signed up as a distributor placed my required order which I received late, but thought it was because I was new into the system. That theory was quickly debunked, I have since placed 4 monthly auto orders/shipments and all of them have arrived late even though I paid for a 3 to 5 business day shipping. The latest one was on an auto order/ship for March 5... I paid the $15.99 (+ tax) to have arrive within 3 to 5 business days and my order will not arrive until March 14th. I called customer service and got the run around. So sad, great product, but the company is poorly run!
YELP does not list positive business reviews unless advertisements are paid for. Very dishonest company. As a small business owner, I cannot afford their advertisements so they blocked all good reviews from our customers and left only the bad reviews. Their sales rep was very aggressive and rude. When I called yelp, they explained that their software makes the selections. This company is very dishonest and they care about nothing but generating money.
I got a call from a yelp sales person. She (mei is her name) hs been calling me before and I always tell her NO or dont answer call. Today I did answer and simply hung up as I knew it was yelp calling. She called me back 4 times on my phone and mobile. How rude and unprofessional. A good sales person know that you can not speak to someone who is not ready to listen. I called Mei back and she answered the phone "hello". I asked here who I am speaking to and she replied with a snide comment- the person you called. Nice. Never again! What are they trying to sell? Bad will? Yelp is a decent product. Too bad a bad sales person can ruin it.
I payed for Yelp marketing. They boosted my business listing to the top of Yelp ads in a rotating fashion. They said I'd get X number of new clients each month based on some formula they used. Not only did I not get a single client in 6 months, but I didn't get a single phone call for new business. My other marketing avenues yielded results. Yelp did not.
Also, when you sign a 3 month contract it automatically rolls over into a month to month, which they don't tell you up front. If you choose a 3 month option make sure you actively cancel it one month prior to expiration. My suggestion is to avoid Yelp altogther.
A wonderful place to eat. Food is always fresh, the facility is constantly being cleaned. Management is wonderful, wait staff is on the ball with delivering food, refilling drinks, Can't beat the food for quality and preparation. Prices are reasonable considering the chef's attention to assembling the order, not only look great but taste wonderful as well. I would say that this is a 5 star restaurant without a doubt.
They bury reviews that they don't like, and make it take over a minute to load their "not recommended" reviews. Which vary RADICALLY with the reviews that they do include to make their ratings. That's my poor user experience. But from the business perspective, Yelp pressures owners to pay for yelp premium in order to fix their yelp image (because all of the 5 star reviews aren't sticking). If Yelp WASN'T doing anything crooked here, they would make it easy for viewers to see ALL reviews, and compare that against "recommended" reviews, so the user could decide if manipulation was taking place. AND yelp advertises competitors on the same page as non yelp "partner" accounts. Yelp does something in virtual space that would NEVER be legal in physical space. I cannot believe they've survived this long. The only thing creative about their app is their nefarious tactics for exploiting business owners.
Be very careful sometimes businesses get your real name and stalk you if you write a bad review. This is supposed to be legitimate but seems not to be. Too many glowing reviews not to suspect "fake news"
Beware. Many of the reviews on this site are transparent as having been either paid for or left by friends of the establishment. There is a brand new restaurant I looked up that has 38 reviews that are all 5 star. Impossible it has been open one day and no one is perfect. In addition Yelp has seen fit to give out my personal name and email to someone that I left a negative review for which caused me a great deal of trouble. Also I have had a perfectly legitimate review removed and yelp stated I was not a customer of that firm. Not only is that not true How would they know unless they contacted that individual which is again a breach of confidentiality.
Back in March 2016 a review showed up on Yelp for my company - New Castle Remodeling. The review was written by someone I had never worked for and was very negative. Also the review claimed I had changed from South West to my present business name. This never occurred.
I flagged the review per Yelp's guidelines and days later was told the review was legit. Recently I have both asked the person who posted the review to remove it (via Yelp) and have asked Yelp again to view and remove this false posting. - No Joy from Yelp.
I then inquired about taking my company out of Yelp completely as it would not remove the review. No reply and no function found on Yelp to do this.
So I decided to no longer post any info with Yelp and to send my own review of Yelp such as this.
Reason of review: Poor customer service.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
I didn't like: Would not remove falsely posted review.
They drop reviews for no reason, even reputable good reviews. They are by far WAY more expensive than Bing or Google and they charge for no results. Horrible service, horrible treatment of businesses. Yelp is done - they're circling the drain. Nobody uses them anymore yet they're sadly fighting to hang on.
Goodbye and good riddance.
A lot of times they do not even notify you that they have taken down your review. Anyone can complain and most often they will take down the review esp if it is a large company, college, organization, etc... so often you get only good reviews and don't see the bad ones. Biased and plays favorites
Maybe the staff at Yelp should learn to be a bit more polite and not jerks? Probably be more successful at meeting sales goals. They remind me of bill collectors & yet trying to sell me something.
Don't want true reviews. Don't want to hear about whites being discriminated against which we people need to know about
I can't understand why Yelp hides some reviews. Some hidden are fake, some legit. I don't understand the reason/purpose of hidden reviews. Either unhide or hide all, or shut down and dissolve. There was life before Yelp. There will be life after. When i ask to remove obvious fake ridiculous business responses, Yelp staff replies there's no violation of their policy. They don't even have the right flagging options.
Why promise to solve all the client's issues as a physic, make them sign contracts worth of dollars and then subject the same clients to buy expensive crystals for solving their problem that is not genuine.
Answer: Yes, it's true or they go to "not recommended"
Answer: Yelp are crooks, find some where else
Answer: For one of my business they made me pay for their monthly service which I never did, so my positive review was hidden.
Answer: Look somewhere else. As the reviews here show Yelp is notoriously unreliable.
Answer: Yes they erase all reviews they darn well wish to delete. CROOKED YELP!
