Yelp Reviews Summary

The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

Our experience with Yelp has been HORRIBLE. As a company, we're very disappointed with our experience with Yelp. We encourage any platform that gives customers a voice... however that platform must be impartial and publish both bad and good reviews.

Our experience has shown that Yelp will only publish our 2 bad reviews and not our 7 really good reviews. They have many "reasons" for this but they are of little value to us and the only solution they offer us is to start spending money on ads.

I've spoken to our rep and his manager and however friendly they are and they're only following company policy, they're simply looking to monetize our account. How is that impartial?

Our company appliance Repair and we claim the business page on Yelp to start advertising. In a few days, the agent Sean contacted me to enroll and provide us the support to get started. $300 dollars in advance as a credit to get started and set up the daily budget that works best for us according to the area and leads expectation. We set up manually $10 per day and Sean guaranty no penny more during the day. There is no agreement no penalty and no fee. Cancel any time. We agreed and start adverting 17 days ago. The advertising had the low performance we do not have any online booking/calls and works as well. No money in returns. Decided to stop advertising. Received bill for $270 due for 17 days. We were on recorded line I checked that out. Sean guaranteed $10per day and $300 as credit. I tried to reach seam or somebody who can make a breakdown bill and provide all info regarding that. After two days Sean responded to my email with the phone number of the success manager. The success manager said, that the budget is optional and average and Yelp can spend my daily budget as per trends and demand. Even in one day?! Manager shoed me 6 inbox messages with the quote that YELP counts as LEAD?! That five people ask me to quote them with similar questions and never got me back. I checked their YELP profile -no images, no reviews no friends. I believe that fake account. And YELP counts it as LEAD and charge. YELP charges me for CPC for $19 bc of demand... per manager... if demand is so high why We do not receive any orders from YELP and why they spend $19 per with budget $10 per day?! YELP spent our company money with no any permission. YELP does not have my signature in agreement but they charge my DEBIT CARD for advertising that does not advertise. The agreement mean two sides agree. We do not agree to pay for advertising that not advertises my business. Yelp said that advertising with YELP is our problem and risks. Is that gambling? The agreement not working the advertising not working we do not suppose to pay.

Horrible site
October 30, 2019

(September 2019) Yelp has a terrible business model, customer service and representation. I have 30 unrecommended reviews from REAAL patients who can't see their review on yelp because of some algoritthm, and if someone has written only one review which is considered an unreliable review. I said okay fine to them but please take down the bad reviews of people who AREN't my patients, and who've I've never seen before and aren't on any roster of mine. They won't take them down. I'm so confused by yelp. What's the point of having 30 positive unrecommended reviews? Omg. Yelp should be dismantled.

Revision as of December 2019: In Addition to the above, Yelp moments ago called my business to see if I wanted to buy some ads, I said No and, I won't do business with yelp because they let good reviews of my patients to go unrecommended (that weren't solicited either). MoMENTS, only MOMENTS later, I checked my business page on yelp, and they literally took reviews from the Recommended section that were there this morning (and have been there for weeks), and put them into the Unrecommended section. I am blown away by yelps ethics. I noticed they've updated their business/ user policies recently only to be irreproachable, legally. YELP is untrustworthy. I discourage anyone to use yelp and instead, direct patients or patrons, yourself even to start using google reviews as an alternate mode to increase awareness of one's business.

Waste of time and money
October 28, 2019

Removes reviews if reviewers do not review often enough for their algorithm. They want you to make reviewers of your business more active on their site, a very strange business model that does not work for clients at all. I would advertise but not if they are going to treat me like that!

RIP off
October 28, 2019

Inquired about advertising for my business, but had to enter my credit card before they would give me info or pricing. Never authorized anything, but they charged my card anyway. When I called and asked what the charges are for they said, we ran your ad. I said I never ordered an ad, they said I should have gotten an email with the order confirmation - which I never got. I asked them to send me a copy of the email - which they could not produce. Nor could they produce the ad. When I disputed with Bank of America, they suddenly were able to produce an ad for them and BofA reversed and re-charged me for the fake ads which never happened.

Yelp is one of the worst sites I have come across, they reviews are fake and last for years.
When ever you go on google they are there and have the same reviews, nothing seem to change, this site should close.

Harassment!
October 25, 2019

They really must have a lot of time on their hands, really need the money, or just both to be calling my business EVERY SINGLE F-ING DAY harassing me. I'll tell them the boss isn't here (as I can't make decisions without him, an obvious) & they insist on getting his name & phone number which I also can't give out. The people that call are also EXTREMELY RUDE & PUSHY. We don't want to do your advertisement for the love of god, stop calling & harassing me! No wonder they don't have any good reviews

They post fake reviews on business pages based on if the business signs up or not. And when i say sign up i mean pay for an ad. If the business does not want to pay for an ad then Yelp will leave several fake negative reviews on theyre page. If they do sign up they will leave several positive reviews. Then they clain no reviews can be removed, although from my experience and reserch on Yelp they are behind many of the postings. This company is essentially extorting money from bisinusses under the threat of defemation of character.

Last Apirl I gave Jack *******. 00 to build a garage for me in May. Long and short he used my money until late November before he even started only after threat of a law suit. The work done was less than professional. Ran into some problems with the building as it is now settling and not square. Door does not open cement in cracked and he does not return phone calls. 10 yeas or so ago he built a nice barn for me on time. This is very poor workmanship and not at all professional. Chose another builder. Dave Quigley

After many many years of fighting off the very aggressive ad sales calls I finally gave in and thought if I can't beat em join them!
No doubt as a small business owner of Chez Aesthete where I perform facials an intimate service it was obvious that people used Yelp to read reviews of my services, so I began to advertise. As the years passed if I lowered my budget or stayed away for awhile they would place my reviews in the filtered not recommended section of yelp. Yelps MYSTERIOUS UNICORN ALGORITHM and not a human at Yelp is responsible of the re-arrangent of your reviews to negatively impact your business. This has ad mafia all over it and the lawsuits are a plenty! Clever loophole this Yelp Unicorn. Do yourself a favor and never get into bed with them as those stains on the sheets are gonna be really hard to get out.

No longer using yelp for advertisement or anything. They removed a lot of my 5 star reviews from my customers. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I now use other platforms for advertisement and I have been doing great!

I created a Yelp account in 2012 for my small business, since then I've had 17 reviews from 2013-present, all "5-stars". Of these Jaimie S. Has written 41 reviews, Denise W. Has written 10 reviews, Jeanette T. Has written 5 reviews, Rebekah K. Has written 3 reviews, Julie T. Has written 8 reviews, Derek G. Has written 3 reviews, Meg M. Has written 3 reviews, Jessica T. Has written 6 reviews, William M. Has written 5 reviews, Chad H. Has written 8 reviews, and so on. Of these 17 reviews only 3 are being shown, and none of the ones I just noted above were accepted, though each had their other reviews approved.

To be clear, in the past Yelp showed significantly more of these same reviews, just over half of them. I contacted Yelp in 2017 and asked why they would not recommend half of my reviews since each was a client, and can easily be verified as such since there is a developer notice on their website, and their website is included in my portfolios? Yelp's reply was that their review approval system is automated and they have no control over it. Since I contacted Yelp in 2017 I received a sales call and/or email from Yelp constantly, often 2 or more times a week. I had noted to their sales staff on more than one occasion that as a small business I could not afford to pay for their service. When the calls and emails didn't stop I asked them to take me off of their list (not to contact me again). Within a week all of my reviews (previously approved) were hidden except the 3 that are shown now. Hiding my legitimate reviews was clearly a retaliatory effort by Yelp to punish my business.

Yelp notes that "Your trust is our top concern, so businesses can't pay to alter or remove their reviews". This sounds GREAT if it was true. It's not.

Tire barn does not keep their word. I paid for 4 tires. I got 2.
I was told the other 2 would be on Friday's 4:30 pm truck.
No.
I was told they would be on Saturdays morning truck.
No.
I was told they would be in on Saturday's 4:30 pm truck.
No.
I was just told I now must wait until Monday, because it is to much bother to do it on Sunday.
The store is open Sundays.
I must wait until Monday.
They don't know which truck it will be on, or if they will be in on Monday!
Valparaiso Tire Barn cannot be trusted.

I spent 20 minutes talking to yelp tech. Turns out the guy was a salesman and could do nothing

I work for mirage Limousines in phoenix and rely on personal customer reviews to get me personally more work.
I regularly get a 5 star review from the clients. The reviews are informative and factual.
Yelp have filtered over 100 reviews due to their stupid filtering system.
One of the reasons is because the reviewer has only done this 1 review so far.
Yelp how do they get to use u if you delete them.
In my opinion your shooting yourselves in the feet.
Unless you are planning on scamming businesses by holding back 5 star reviews in exchange for a paid business contract?
Thats blackmail right.
Yelp tech support no nothing except selling a contract.
They should be closed down they are ruining legitimate business's good reviews.
Not impressed.

It's a scam!
October 18, 2019

I was told that I'd be charged $14 with no additional fees, and that I can cancel my account anytime. I had the account no more than 2 weeks and decided since I had like 4 leads that I responded to professionally right away, and they never even wrote back, that this site was a scam! So I called and canceled. A week later my bank called me and said someone out of California tried to use my card for $499, and asked if I had approved. I immediately told them no and to cancel that card because I thought someone had stole my card info. The next day I say my email from yelp saying I owe them a balance of $499. Yelp never provided me a service whatsoever and I don't owe them sh*t, excuse my language. Don't mess with them they are a complete scam. If they did get money from you I'd take it to court, all your lawyer has to do is come to these reviews

I began advertising with YELP Business in February and it has been a nightmare ever since. The program was to have run through April and I have been billed $450.00 to $550.00 each month since. I have had 4 different account managers and none have been responsive or helpful. Each person told me different reasons why they were still charging my account and promised to correct the problem. None of them did.

Be very wary of YELP Business. They hold your business image hostage and the force you pay upgrade images and the business information. It is extortion at best. Stay away.
