I tried receiving help from several PhD experts in data science/R and causal inference. None of them understood basic R syntax, anything in my research even though I shared all the data, code, and write ups they requested. Some charge $200 an hour! The code advice is often wrong, clunky.
I spent quite a bit of time preparing my profile for applying at Wyzant. They said it needed some work and I updated it. They still wanted changes so I tried again. They dumped me. I have vast experience with teaching and tutoring but they apparently want generic profiles that match their algorithms.
So, much time was wasted and I moved on to friendlier tutoring sites.
Both my son and daughter's accounts were abruptly closed within a single day, and the reasons provided seemed quite extreme. My daughter's account was closed due to her sharing it with her brother, prompting us to open a separate account for him. Regrettably, this account was also closed, with the explanation that tutors were not permitted to assist students with their assignments. My son had diligently completed all of his summer assignments but encountered some difficulties that required assistance.
Furthermore, the customer service experience was notably unsatisfactory, characterized by a discourteous representative who abruptly ended our phone call on two occasions.
I've been trying to find a Spanish tutor for my daughter. I came across this website and have had no luck. One tutor was supposed to show up last Friday. Never did. She recheduled for today and again did not show up. She made up excuses for not being able to make her appointments. Finally I got one with another lady and she spent the whole hour searching for a Spanish book and did zero tutoring. What a waste of my time and money.
I logged as student account and search for tutor. They have good fit guarantee policy which is totally a false policy they have. I got tutor for the first session as consultation. When i did not find the strategy i am looking for from the teacher teaching mr i ask for good fit guarantee, they closed my account and informed the tutors not to do business with a student. I did not get my money as well since they credited to the account and closed it.Such professionalism in education i have never seen, will never recommend using their tutor services. Better too search school or university or local tutors.
I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with this online tutoring company that left me utterly disappointed and frustrated. It is my duty to warn others about this terrible service, marked by abysmal response time, a complete waste of time, unqualified staff, and a company that seems more interested in spamming customers than providing any actual help.
Aside from the fact that many of the tutors on this site have wasted hours of my time because they did not know the material that they claimed to know, I have also lost money as a result of the wyzant messaging system.
On NUMEROUS occasions, I have sent messages that appeared to go through but never actually did. When I logged back into my account, the messages had disappeared. As a result, i have had to pay for lessons that I thought I'd cancelled via the messaging system. This company's customer service is abysmal and you hunt all over the internet to find a phone number. The tutors should provide contact information but everything goes through this faulty messaging system. I am filing a dispute with my bank to try to recoup the money that I've lost.
I got everything set up, including taking qualification tests for math, languages, and other areas that I can tutor. Submitted a photo back in May 2023 too. When I logged in again in July 2023, I noticed that my photo was still "under review", so I sent the customer service an email to check. Next thing I know, my account gets fully deactivated due to their user agreement 18(a). I followed up and they just gave a vague answer and said that I can reapply in 6 months.
After that much time spent setting my profile up just to get shut down before I even started tutoring, I'm definitely never using them again.
If I could give a lower rating I would. There is nothing more frustrating than working with a company that does not allow for direct communications. There is no phone number and all communication is via an automated response from a robot. Hey Wyzants, get 'wise' and hire a human. Lord knows you make enough money to do so.
They refused my application as a tutor and told me that I do not meet the vetting requirements. It is very sad to see a company using a non-solid reason as a back door to kick you out of the platform. I submitted my application three times and still get refused for no sensible ground.
I have been ripped off twice by false advertising of tutors who did not even understand the concept of Defamiliarization in English Literature, so I requested proof of what a writing prompt was asking for to protect myself from more scams and had a tutor accuse me of being lazy and not wanting to do any work. Horrible experience and site full of tutors who really don't care, just money, the moment they think your not a cash cow they just become unavailable.
My first experience with WyzAnrt was generally good. My tutor from that session was busy so I reached out to a new tutor. I asked that the person "walk through" each operation on a take home excel test and see if i was doing them right. The site accused me of asking the tutor to take my test for me. I explained that I was never told that review the test content was against policy and that my intent was not to have the tutor take ity for me. I received no warning or second chance. WyzAnt would not reconsider.
Mark C. Is the best coach for AutoCad around, he was patient and informative of anything I asked regarding to CAD/ AutoCad. In my opinion he is the goto man for tutoring. Hats off to MARK C.! He helped me with every layer question and tool, Mark told me so much that I I will always be so thankful to him. Thank You Mark C.
In the beginning I also i had connection issues because I was mining crypto at the time, Mark hung in there for me, he kept reaching out to me. Thank You Mark Dustin D.
Why would Wyzant suspend my tutor account after I pass their Maths, Excel, French and Algebra?t
Did nothing wrong, maybe because an African sounding name, I shouldn't apply to tutor at Wyzant?
This needs to be investigated to see if some other people have not been treated same way, we will see if there is a case for a class action lawsuit.
So if you are a tutor or student and was discriminated by Wy\zant, you should jioin to take a group legal case.
Would give them negative stars if I could. Abysmal customer service. They treat tutors very poorly and charge a starting fee that is 40% of the total fees paid on the website by students. Would not recommend to anyone.
Site takes away too much money. Customers never understand that they must first put in their credit card information before I can provide an email or phone number which leads to losing the chance at tutoring them. STAY AWAY. Not worth the trouble.
I worked for Wyzant as a tutor for many years and always found them to be a particularly nasty bunch who were only interested in the bottom line, i. E. money. They definitely do not care about their tutors and, as another review stated, look for any opportunity to delete your profile even after you've become a top earner with a large client base. I had over 200 hundred hours in and over 100 client reviews (4.9 out of 5) but was deleted without any explanation, obviously for no good reason... stay away from these guys, they are very bad news!
Great company. You can find tutoring jobs in your area from their website. I wish they would increase compensation for tutors, though. Easy payment (direct deposit to checking account). I've always been paid as promised on time for hours tutored. Easy website - very user friendly!
Wyzant is a joke. As some else mentioned, 40% commission? That's outrageous. I only signed up to try to get my name out in a new city. (I had left a thriving tutoring business that I had built entirely by word of mouth in a previous city.)
They really ought to change their business model if they want to keep tutors happy. I would pay a flat $50/month to get referrals, but that's it. I think you're better off putting up your own website and simply putting out flyers at your local library. Once you get one or two satisfied students, they tell their friends, and they will usually have siblings, too. Word of mouth advertising can spread pretty quickly, but it takes a couple of years to build up.
(Personally, I think Wyzant might boot me soon b/c I have been simply talking w/the parents on the phone and working directly with them. That's how I've always done it. I really don't care if they kick me off. Their leads haven't been all that great anyway.)
I sent multiple messages to different tutors. One set up a time then blew me off, another deleted all my work and rewrote it leaving tons of mistakes, the rest put my messages in a loop so they could increase their their hourly rate. Meaning I cannot contact them because my previous message was sent at old pay rate. This site is a joke!
Answer: Hi. I followed up with Wyzant a number of times. They refused to let me speak to a supervisor and told me that there was nothing they could say about WHY they shut down my profile. I've never encountered such an unhelpful company (except for Comcast)...
Answer: Also, this. Is crazy to charge so much from students... like 90$ per hour? This organization should be banned and brought to justice
Answer: I did and they played emotionally. This business should be banned so students and teachers can have a reasonable way to interact and tutor on reasonable rates.
