The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, particularly regarding its customer service and reliability. Many users report frustrating experiences with delayed refunds, poor communication, and unhelpful support staff. Complaints about properties not matching descriptions or being in unacceptable conditions are prevalent, leading to a loss of trust. While a few customers express occasional satisfaction with specific transactions, the overwhelming sentiment leans towards a lack of accountability and professionalism. This has resulted in a growing number of users opting for alternative platforms, indicating a critical need for improvement in service quality and responsiveness.

We tried cancelling our stay in Florida. VRBO and Executive Villas Florida were absolutely no help and we were told we would lose our full payment for the house rental. I informed them that my husband is a Fire Chief in the New York City area and once the National State of Emergency was declared, he has the responsibility to be at work for this crisis. Not to mention that all the stores in Florida had little food and supplies. We would have gone down to a house with little options as far as basic home essentials. The airlines where very understanding especially after providing documentation that my husband is a first responder in the city and state most hard hit by this virus. We are currently paying for an empty house in Florida while being in New York trying to stay safe. It is sad that VRBO and Executive Villas Florida has shown the complete lack of empathy for any first responder. Their current policy on refunds shows complete disregard to those who bravely serve the public, especially in a time of a national crisis. They are not offering any refund at all.
This was not my first rodeo with rental properties, but my first with VRBO. Three couples, including my wife and I, had booked this trip to Charleston SC back in February of this year, 2020. Unfortunately with the current state of affairs we've had to cancel, for the time being. Being from Canada only complicated things even more with the closure of our two borders. But I must say my experience with "Misha" at VRBO in Charleston was nothing short of spectacular. I found her to have been completely sympathetic and understanding and worked very hard on our behalf. VRBO certainly played a role in this as well and reacted with the same understanding as "Misha". I must add that I was surprised at some of the ratings that are exhibited for the company as this was not my experience with "Misha". When this is all done, we do intend on rebooking for Charleston, through VRBO and hopefully thru "Misha". Please accept our gratitude and thanks and we certainly understand that you do have a business to run and need to stay afloat - especially in these uncertain times. I really appreciated you taking the time and calling me personally in order to come to some kind of agreement. Your personal touch and attention to our needs are more than appreciated. Hope to deal with you again. Thank you. I hope this review reaches your eyes.
Do not use this website, you will regret it. I made a booking and they took a $260 "service" fee, however once the money was taken, there was no service. I needed to cancel the booking which I was unable to do on their website. I tried contact twice via their "chat" feature, the first response came 7 hours later. The second attemp I managed to talk to someone after 2hrs waiting, they were no help and gave me another number to call. I have currently called this number 9 times. 4 of those times I was told they were transferring the call, each of those times I gave up after 30 minutes on hold. 3 of the calls, I was unexpectedly "cut off". Of the 2 calls where I was able to speak to an actual person, they talked over me and couldn't or wouldn't help me. I now have no way of cancelling the property that I am unable to stay at and am exhausted from trying. Seriously don't use them.
We have gone to Aruba yearly as a couple. This year, as a retirement gift to ourselves we were bringing the family to Aruba Marriot Surf Club. Booked 2 2 bedroom condos. Even though we used an agency, it looks like we will lose hard earned savings of $10,000, a lifetime trip that isn't allow to reschedule. Even though the Country of Aruba won't let you in. Seems very petty response in time of global crisis. Never thought you would lose everything under these circumstances, especially with so many repeat visitors
Airbnb is a much safer bet when cancelling due to COVID. We will not be getting our 50% refund back even though the entire Park City ski resort closed down and all restaurants are closed. I know this affects the rental owners but good grief. Never rent from Fletcher Keys who owns a condo in Park City, he will keep your money!
The renter paid in full two days ago but VRBO is refusing to disburse my funds ($22K) and say I have to wait 10-15 business days for them to tell me why. Have called 3 times and they say I must wait for an email from the Billing Dept., who does not take calls. So they are ripping off folks looking for refunds and also scamming those of us who are able to still rent our places.
Horrible company. Poor customer service. Will NEVER reserve something through them again. They will not allow adjustment of travel plans due to corona virus.
Tried to cancel reservations for May 9th due to coronavirus outbreak and can only receive 50% refund. Eight days short of receiving 100% refund during WHO pandemic. Have use them before with no problem but never again.
VRBO ripped us off! My daughter's college cancelled her graduation in Hawaii and they are talking about quarenteening the campus. We flew her home from Hawaii. All 9 of our airline tickets were refunded. But not VRBO! We are out $3000. We booked way back in December. Never ever again will I ever buy anything from this company again
PSA: If you have a choice between Air bnb or VRBO, don't ever go with VRBO. We booked a vacation with them and spent almost a grand, now it looks like we'll have to fight to get refunded. We're military and travel restrictions have been placed on service members so we literally can't go. VRBO, never again
I had to cancel our booking for Hawaii next week due to Coronavirus travel restrictions. While VRBO says they strongly encourage owners to refund travelers, they do not have to. The owner of my property refused to give me any kind of refund (not even a partial) and I am out almost $7k! I will never book VRBO again. While Airbnb is stepping up and offering refunds, beware that VRBO is not.
We booked a week in a Fl condo several weeks ago before the Corona virus really started causing so many concerns about spreading. I am over 70 and am concerned about traveling 500+ miles from home under these conditions. I called to see if we could cancel our trip in April. They supposedly called the owner who denied our request to cancel/refund. The propaganda regarding cancellations/Corna that they put out leads you to believe that they will accomadate your request due to this unusual situation. However, it is meaningless. We also had a similar arrangement with AirB&B... that money has already been refunded. Not only will we never use VRBO under any circumstances but we will relate this experience to everyone who will listen! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
I lost $4000 today because of VRBO. Booked an amazing vacation in Sedona before the virus hit the US. The property owners refuse to reschedule or refund. Property owner cancelled my reservation. VRBO actually hung up on me when I called to file a claim. I hope they go out of business for being complete vampires during a crisis.
We booked a vacation rental in San Diego 739 Yarmouth Court Mission Beach area, and had a contract. I get that but when we asked for a refund we were told no by the owner then when we asked to move the dates as the countries were shut down, no flights, and no way what so ever of fulfilling the contract he said to bad, he had lost a 1/4 million in the stock market and do not call again. VRBO after about 20 hours 5 calls told me had been escalated to Trust and Securities just to find out that it was not, and that I was out the money and I can not leave a review on this property because the rental is cancelled. Makes no sense not review a bad owner
I have been unable to log into my VRBO account. I have inquiries which I am unable to respond to. I am unable to accept reservations. Over the past 48 hours, I have made over 6 phone calls and placed on hold for over a total of 4 hours. CS agents tell me the matter has been forwarded to Technical Support for handling. However, TS has yet to contact me. Initially, I was told that TS would contact me within 48 hours. Today, I'm told to expect to hear from TS within the next FIVE business days, SEVEN including the weekend! CS claims that there is no direct line to TS. I pay annual fees and administrative fees for each reservations. I am paying for their salaries... And NO ONE can help me. Perhaps TS is an acronym for something else!
DURING CORONA VIRUS CRISIS OWNERS STILL WANT THEIR MONEY. VRBO MAKING NO EFFORT TO SUPPORT CUSTOMERS OR SHOULD WE SAY FORMER CUSTOMERS. 2 NIGHT RESERVATION-PLUS $200 CLEANING. WILL ONLY REFUND 1 NIGHT. WHY CLEANING DEPOSIT WHEN WE AR'T GOING TO BE THERE.
PURE GREED
I have a reservation with Turnkey Vacation Rentals (VRBO) on 3/22/20 - 3/28/20 in Park City, Utah and have been trying to cancel for 3 days after the Governor of Utah closed the slopes and restaurants in Park City. Turnkey Vacation Rentals (TVR) has not responded to multiple emails and I have been receiving busy signals on their phone line. I was able to text with a customer service representative, who told me that they would not provide a refund. My only option was to rebook in the same house for next year. Although Airbnb is refunding folks (I'll use them next time), I provided the TVR representative with a time next year to reschedule the reservation. After texting back and forth for a day and a half, he/she texted me that he/she can't cancel the reservation and that I had to call the customer service number. Why was he/she wasting my time with all the texting? Then I called VRBO customer service to get help and the customer service rep ("Cat") was more than worthless. She kept repeating that I needed to call TVR. This level of incompetent and deceptive behavior is unacceptable. I'll use Airbnb next time!
Booking with Vrbo was the worst choice we could have made. We booked a trip to Florida back in October for the last weekend in March. We attempted to cancel due to the COVID-19 outbreak, as many of our travelers work in healthcare and school, or have recently lost restaurants job. In addition, a few of us have immuno-compromised family members who are at extremely high risk if they contact the disease.
We reached out to our host who was extremely vague, but said no refunds.
Then they closed all the beaches, restaurants, and bars while all the grocery stores are picked dry.
Then we asked for even a partial refund and got a hard no.
It's a greedy, money hungry company that would rather risk the infection of hundreds of others than refund a little money.
Had a separate trip booked (a month later than this), and was offered a full refund with 0 hassle and 100% kindness. This was my first and only attempt to use VRBO and I will be damn sure that no one else I know gives money to this company.
DON'T book with VRBO! If you have to cancel, even if it is prior to the 100% full refund time frame, you have to FIGHT to get all your money back. They only issued me partial refund, short by over $1,000. I had to make several phone calls back and forth as homeowner and VRBO pointed the finger at each other. 1st phone call was 58 minutes long... on hold now with this one for 42 minutes with still no answer. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FIGHT THIS HARD TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK! STAY AWAY!
Terrible company! Unwavering on policies when trying to cancel for COVID-19. Paying $900 for nothing. DO NOT BOOK WITH BUFFALO LODGING! Or with VRBO!
AirBnB is offering full refunds.
Answer: There are many problems with listing with VRBO/HomeAway. The 1st is that it is the largest company of it's size. While that may mean that you get more exposure, you also have more competition for getting your listing seen. For example, your listing could be # 300 out of 2,000. Most people don't want to search that far to find what they want because they can usually find something else sooner. In order to get a higher listing, you must pay more. I pay the highest rates they have for my properties in TN # 191351, 189535, & 289723, i. E. over $1,500 each. Listing position is also based on a number of criteria which they mandate. We have no control over some of those criteria. For example, listing position is based on whether or not guests USE VRBO/HomeAway on line booking. Initially,. VRBO/HomeAway required that we OFFER on line booking in order to maximize our listing position, so I offered it. VRBO/HomeAway then changed their criteria & now guests must USE on line booking in order or my listing position drops. I have no control over whether or not they USE VRBO/HomeAway & I don't recommend it for several reasons (more on that if you're interested). Listing positions are also determined by the number & quality of reviews. Again, I have no control over whether or not someone writes a review nor how they rate a property. What may be a 5 Star for someone may only be a 3 Star for someone else, but I'm at their mercy to provide a review & to rate it well. There are many other factors that go into listing position. As I said, I try to maximize what I can & If I'm luck, my property will be listed around 50/200. I get much better response from FlipKey by TripAdvisor. As I mentioned, I pay VRBO/HomeAway over $1,500 for each property. I Pay FlipKey by TripAdvisor about $450/property for #'s 6588094, 2386143, & 3746421 & get much better results. The problem with FlipKey is that it's hard for someone to search for a specific property using the property #.
Answer: VRBO will not help anymore with anything. Homeaway bought them and there is no personal contact with owners anymore until they pay through the site. I don't know about negative reviews. Never see any. If there was a way to avoid VRBO and Someway I would do it; but they have the corner on the VACA rental market now.
Answer: I have the same problem. I don't think they have any.
Answer: Vrbo will NOT get involved in any way. They will not arbitrate on anyone's behalf. They are strictly an advertising website. Carefree travel insurance & all the other stuff is just to make renters feel more comfortable to rent. They hardly ever pay out if there is a real problem. You can sue in small claims court, in the city & state you rented in. The only defense you have is if you paid with a credit card to do a charge back, & even then its hard. You have to have documentation to prove you case. However, vrbo won't contest the chargeback if you can get your credit cad company to work with you. Best to leave a review that warns other renters to stay away. But vrbo approves the reviews before they are posted.
Answer: I have spoken with them so many times yesterday and today with no fix my problem. The number is 1-877-228-3145. I wish you better luck than I have had.
Answer: Absolutely nothing! Every change they make results in their making more money and owners making less. My bookings are down drastically. I would not sign up with VRBO.
Answer: Go with the standard listing if you have already paid. If not save your money and try homeescape.com. Homeaway/VRBO rolled out a new 9% service fee charged to your customers in addition to what you're already paying for. They did this without any warning to their customers. I found out after one of my repeat guests questioned the charge. I'm moving away from them and going with other options.
Answer: A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share
Answer: Try airbnb to rent part of your home
Answer: Same issue for us. The house we rented had glowing reviews and when I tried to post an honest review it still has not been posted.
VRBO provides vacation rental listings by owner in the US and around the world.
