We paid a deposit in a large house in Belize... supposed to be going there in 3 weeks with large family. Cannot get a response from owner. What should we do?

A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share

Call VRBO help desk or security center. They can confirm owner and if you are booked, Our mistake was not calling. Wired funds and VRBO only covers 1000. 00. They don't say that until deep in their web site pages. Property pages all say Guaranteed Secure. Pay with Confidence. We. Lost 8000. 00 because email between VRBO and property owner was hacked and we thought we were connected to property owner who contacted us hour after VRBO emailed us and confirmed owner would be in touch.

VRBO not helping us in anyway..

This happened to me until my payment was due. I was unable to reach anyone from VRBO. I emailed, left messages and nothing. They were more than happy to take my money though. Make sure you have proper documentation because that's the only way we got our money back. I disputed this with my bank, We did not get what we paid for. I will never use this site again.

Reviews don't always tell the whole story. We had a host cancel one month after accepting our deposit. Our money was promptly refunded, however, all of the other properties which interested us in the area close to our event booked during the month we thought we had a reservation. We were unable to leave a review on the VRBO site because we had not stayed at the property. I am unlikely to rent through VRBO in the future as a hosts history of cancellation will not be reflected in the reviews.
