VRBO Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, particularly regarding its customer service and reliability. Many users report frustrating experiences with delayed refunds, poor communication, and unhelpful support staff. Complaints about properties not matching descriptions or being in unacceptable conditions are prevalent, leading to a loss of trust. I have had good experiences using this site. Most of the listings provide more information about the rental then expected- with lots of pictures which was great.

I was trying to get a house in Santa Cruz for the weekend for about 10 friends with a lower price range and I was able to search by people, beds, and PRICE. But I have also stayed with family friends (who used vrbo.com) in an upscale condo in Mexico so I know vrbo.com offers rentals of all shapes and sizes.

The search options and contacting the owners is easy and convenient.

I had a listing on vrbo (3b/3b on South Beach - Miami). It was clearly listed that it can sleep maximum 6-8 people and the minimum stay is 3 nights.
I've received an email from potential guests to rent my apartment. The request was for 1 night to sleep 12 people?!. Obviously they needed the place for a party.
I wrote back to the client saying that the minimum stay is 3 nights and that I'm not willing to rent to a group larger than 8 people, because it is 1,3 million dollar apartment and I've suggested to use local hotels in Miami Beach.
I've received angry email back, saying that they need the apartment for bachelor party for only one night and that only 5-6 people will sleep in the apartment.
My response was that, my apartment is not a public house to make parties, and that there are plenty of places on south beach where they can organize bachelor party, and that I'm refusing to rent the apartment.
After that I've received a phone call from the same person threating me that they will sue me, because I'm discriminating them?!?! And that I don't know with whom I'm dealing with.

The very next day I've received an email from vrbo.com, saying that they received an complaint and that I'm not using a correct language in my emails when comunicating with clients?!?! My listing was DELETED the same day.
What should I do? According to them I should rent the apartment to bunch of drunk kids just to destroy my 1,3 million dollar apartment? For $500 for one night - come on?!?! Are you serious?
I've asked for a refund of my $690 for the remaining period of the listing. They didn't wanted to refund my money! I've contacted my lawyer, he wrote them a very nice letter and they refunded my money.
VRBO is ultra expensive web site, trying to charge you as much as possible. It's not worth the service.
Also they will start send you emails to add listing on their other websites (cyberrentals.com, homeaway.com, greatrentals.com, a1vacations.com and charge you over there also the same fee?!?!)

I WILL NEVER, EVER list my property to their websites again, i've made my own web site and started advertising on google and craigslist!

They charge too much so another great site that is relatively new and FREE is
http://www.adventurepads.com Sports themed but anyone(owner or property manager) can post their
Vacation rental for free. It has great functionality such as custom filters for finding a place close to the beach, and gps location for owners that own a property that doesn't show up on a map. You can also add several pictures and video…all free. The other great thing, is because the property listers are not paying the site, the reviews are NOT filtered like other paid sites. Check it out…

Cheers
Mike

As a vacation rental owner I find the operators of this website smug and greedy. The raised $450 million in capital to buy out all the Vacation Rental Websites and then jacked up the rates 10 fold. That might be OK but viewership is down so listings are 20 times more expensive. This advertising media is way over priced. Most of the rentals are actually from managers so even its name is false and misleading. And if you ever need to reach a human you will be out of luck.

After staying at a B&B listed on this web site I wanted to write a bad review. This site listed great things about the B&B we stayed in but in no way could they be possible. Other revie sites had a mixed review but Bedandbreakfast.com had nothing but good things to say.So get this...

If you write a good revew on bedandbreakfast.com the review gets posted without delay. If you write a bad review the review gets held up until you scan or fax and send documentation that you really stayed somewhere. Now I understand verification. Why do you think they make it harder on some but not others? Is this fair. Maybe the answer is in who pays for advertising on B&B.com. A review is a review and should be treated as equal when good or bad.

Use fair rules for everyone. This site is a real bad example

The rental owners have the upper hand on this site. They have final say on which reviews are displayed. I've used the site with many successes, but one bad experience in which a vacation rental was misrepresented by the owner showed the flaws on this site. Search on "vrbo complaints" and find the reviews the vrbo owners won't post.

Just found a place on this site - I have been looking for a summer rental and thanks to this post I think I found one. Great site, much better than going on craigslist.

Affordable vacation rentals - I've used this site a couple times now and have always been happy. They have rentals all over the country, but I've only used it for the Santa Cruz and Tahoe area. I've always been able to find a rental within my price range and the houses have always been REALLY nice for the price. Usually you just have to pick up the keys from a management property office or they'll leave it somewhere for you. Overall, really easy to use with lots of options. Pssst... we usually cram a lot more people in the house than the capacity, which also helps with the price.
