Well first of all you have to have served in the military or be a child or dependent of a military person in order to qualify for membership (free). A visit to the site will show you an array of products and services that I won't try to elaborate on here. The site is famous for getting you to the right person in record time. The person you first speak to usually can handle any question or solve any problem you have (except for adding huge quantities of dollars to your account just for fun) or they will transfer you to the right person while staying on the line to make sure you get to that person. They are extremely friendly, courteous and always professional, perhaps because they deal with military personnel from all over the world every day. Their services are amazing like free checking, free checks, no fees for low balances, free ATM usage (up to a reasonable point) and they rebate your ATM fees back to your account each month which, by the way, they pay you interest on. You can deposit any check from home or from your cell phone (up to $2000 per day, provided you have a scanner at home or a camera in your phone. Their bill-pay service is free, their Auto insurance is probably the lowest in the nation and they rebate part of your annual premium to you depending on their claims for the year. They have a low cost investment account available, savings, teen accounts, college accounts designed to get kids started managing money with more options and free stuff than any of their competition that I know of. You can obtain a mortgage, car loans and lots of other financial services. USAA also has periodic deals with various providers to save you money like ADT home security systems. All in all, USAA is absolutely the finest company of any kind I have ever done business with./... and NO, I don't have any affiliation with them other than literally all of my financial business is with them, but trust me, this is an honest review and I would (and have) recommend USAA to anyone who has ever served in the Armed Forces or is somehow connected to someone who has. Enjoy.
Review:
I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with USAA after my daughter's car accident. I cannot stress enough how dishonest and deceitful their tactics have been throughout the entire claims process.
To provide some context, my daughter had just purchased her first car, which she saved up for two long years to finally purchase. She was driving cautiously and responsibly when the USAA insured driver ran a stop sign, causing a severe collision. It was a traumatic experience for her, with both physical and emotional consequences.
Despite clear evidence indicating their insured driver's fault, multiple USAA adjusters shamelessly turned the tables on my daughter, blaming her for the collision in order to evade their responsibility to repair her vehicle. Their conduct was appalling, taking advantage of a young, trusting (in honesty is the best policy) driver and attempting to shirk their financial obligations.
Throughout the claims process, USAA consistently demonstrated a complete disregard for their duty to act in good faith. They utilized deceptive tactics and attempted to intimidate and manipulate my daughter into accepting liability for an accident that was clearly not her fault. They used every trick in the book to avoid covering the repair costs, effectively robbing her of the money she had spent so long diligently saving in order to purchase her first car ( having purchased less than 2 weeks before USAA insured failing to yeild right of way, ran a stop sign causing the collision).
Furthermore, when we attempted to discuss the situation with their representatives, we were met with condescending attitudes and dismissive behavior. They lacked basic empathy and failed to address our concerns, leaving us feeling unheard and betrayed.
The lasting impact of this ordeal on my daughter's confidence and trust cannot be overstated. It is disheartening to witness an insurance company, whose primary purpose is to provide reliable coverage, resort to such corrupt practices to avoid fulfilling their obligations.
I strongly caution anyone seeking insurance coverage to steer clear of USAA. Their lack of integrity, their dishonesty, and outright manipulation make them unfit to be trusted with providing genuine care and financial protection in the event of an accident. Save yourself the headaches, frustration, and potentially devastating financial consequences—look elsewhere for a reputable insurance provider
I TRIED TO STOP PAYMENT ON A $1,000. CHAEK. I was assured by an employee that if there were insufficient funds in my checking account, instead USAA charged my credit card.
WOW THEY ARE BAD, 1 HR AGAIN ON THE PHONE, 4 TRANSFERS AND THEN THEY HUNG UP ON ME.OMG WHAT A JOKE. I COULD NEVER USE OR RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AND I DEAL WITH INSUARANCE ALL DAY EVERYDAY.
Thank you for this opportunity. I Paid USAA Auto insurance for 20+ years. Never a Claim / Never a Ticket, but maybe 6 Roadside calls. My USAA insurance increased continuously, because of Virginia's Rates, I was told. I have paid USAA for years, being in the Military, and a single Mom, I believed I was getting the best price because USAA supports the Troops. I am a Senior now and Retired Military. Thought my USAA Auto insurance would decrease, but the insurance increased. I decided to shop around for Auto insurance. I called USAA to cancel and was told I will have to wait 6 months for my refund, just in case I changed my mind and wanted to come back. I spoke to at least three representatives, had asked for a supervisor. After being placed on hold, I was told the refund info is not in my policy, but on USAA Q&A Website. I asked, who is guaranteed 6 months to live. And is USAA guaranteed six more months to be in business? Cancelled my USAA Auto insurance and now have a very good rate with GEICO. I must mention, the tremendous savings at GEICO and in my policy Roadside assist is included. The main regret I have, is not calling Geico sooner.
Okay, when you have plenty of money, then they try charge all kinds of fees. Plus they say deposit at home.
USAA claims to serve those who serve (and their families), but they only serve their own interests. I am a retired (service-disabled) Marine with over 20 years of active service in two war conflicts. I have been with USAA for decades and have paid into my auto policies over the year amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars. I have a clean and excellent driving record with only minor incidents like a cracked windshield or hit by a tree.
Recently, my son crashed his Jeep and USAA declared it totaled. They wanted to settle me for half of the cost on the merits of their online appraiser company. This appraisal was done via the internet so no one actually inspected the vehicle or did an actual physical assessment. After three months of providing them with relevant and active comparables that show the value of my jeep to be twice their settlement amount, they refused to acknowledge my claim and refused to resettle the claim.
Once I was bent into accepting their claim, they once again (conveniently) made what they called an "error" in the final amount and offered an even lower amount. If I had not caught that error, I would have lost another $500. They simply adjusted the paperwork and did not even offer a better settlement for having wasted my time, made a financial mistake in the final settlement, and had me spend time of my own to verify the numbers once again. If I did this kind of mistake in my business, I would lose customers and I would lose their trust.
USAA is not looking out for us veterans. They are now so large and unaware of the damage they are inflicting on their customers by doing automated appraisals and errors in their settlement that they just don't care. What once was a great company that stood for United Services Automobile Association is now an Automated company that is not concerned with the bad service they provide. They only care about profits.
Bought my wife a new truck. Called USAA to cancel the old truck, and add the new truck. They told me I had to tell them the 4- digit code they would send to my phone. I Told them my Trac phone was dead and wouldn't charge. I went to Walmart and bought a new Trac phone, and attempted to swap Sims card, and broke the clip in new phone. Dicided I was done with USAA and went to Farmers Insurance the next day, and purchased all my autos Insurance with them. Same coverage for about $100 a month cheaper. Called USAA to cancel, same thing couldn't do without 4- digit code to my non existing phone. Sent certified mail w photos of front, and back of drivers license, and Farmers Insurance policy to verify my cancelation date, and to verify who I am. Also my new phone number. They text me stating they received my requests to cancel my Insurance, but doesn't have the proper signature? I purchased another Trac phone and finally got my old number back. Will call USAA one last time to give me my BS 4- digit code so I can Cancle them forever. They pre took 5- Months payment out of my account. USAA is a 2- Star or less Company!
My first bank in 10 years. Full recommendations for banking! Customer service is awesome and no hidden fees!
I recently enrolled into USAA. I opened a savings account and moved several thousand into that account. I talked to a financial adviser and created an IRA into which to rollover my 401k. I then initiated the rollover, which hadn't occurred at the time that this happened.
This morning I attempted to login and found that I was locked out. I contacted support and after MANY handoffs I learned that USAA has decided that I was doing something fraudulent. They will do no business with me, and they won't explain the decision. And there is no way to have them reconsider that decision. They closed all accounts and restricted all access.
So now I have 10,000 in a savings account that I can't reach and I had a rollover started into this IRA. Fortunately I was able to cancel the rollover. What a nightmare this would have been had the rollover been done.
When they decided to cancel my account they made no effort to reach out to me. What a mess!
They told me on the phone that it was not possible to tell me why they think I am doing something fraudulent. Everything I told them was 100% truthful.
Also, their web software is extremely buggy. I attempted three separate operations online on three separate days. All three operations failed due to buggy software (becoming a member, opening savings account, changing profile). I kept encountering pages in which the "Next" button would not work. All three operations had to be done via phone. I complained about the terrible software and think that my complaints may have prompted my problems.
Was on the phone many times and spent most of that time listening to their USAA jingle.
I strongly suggest that you avoid USAA. This was my biggest mistake in many years.
This may have been true in the past. I had been with USAA for almost 20 years with only 3 major claims (and none on the 3 homes I have owned with their home owner's insurance. I was involved in a hit and run at the hospital I worked at (happens at least monthly to all of us). The investigator came a week and a half later to ask what parking spot I was in and I told them what I thought (who can remember in a HUGE lot even the same day!). The one camera on a shed happened to show only that exact spot and turns out I was wrong. The investigator also went to my auto repair shop and told the manager he thought I was, "making up stories." VERY unprofessional. The auto shop called me and told me they thought it looked like classic hit in a parking lot. They told me that USAA has been very problematic to death with in recent years. Also my EDR showed NO crashes which USAA could not explain how this damage would have happened if I was not in motion and hit something causing this much damage. I tried to get ahold of my investigator who told me he would return calls and did not (I had important additional info). They apologized for the way it was handled but did nothing because they had closed the case. Then they canceled my plan. I received NO letter just a check with a remaining monthly balance so I called and the girl took 10 minutes to figure out why. She then told me it would be cancelled in 5 days. I told her I never received a letter and then received one 3 days later with a BACKDATED letter (was stamped to mail out 5 days after letter date). When I tried to log on to my USAA it told me my access has been restricted. I still have a home owner's plan with them and all the legal back and forth communication is now restricted to me. Then they sent a letter telling me I still have to pay $865 for my next premium of 6 months regardless of cancellation. I've never been as stressed or had to deal with with a company I've trusted for so long like this. It's actually unbelievable. DO NOT get USAA.
I have been banking with USAA for years and have been happy with their service. However, recently I have experienced a couple issues of concern. My most recent circumstance involved a deposit that disappeared. I received a deposit from Coinbase into my USAA account. My USAA account reflected a Coinbase deposit as currently available in my USAA account. Later that morning I noticed USAA returned my deposit to Coinbase and assessed an overdraft fee to my account. Upon contacting USAA I was told that the Coinbase transaction was a withdrawal to my account instead of a deposit. I knew this was incorrect as I had not made any recent purchases through Coinbase; however, I was expecting a deposit from Coinbase into my USAA account. The original entry reflecting a deposit represented the correct transaction and not the changed entry to a withdrawal. The USAA representative credited my overdraft fee and instructed me to contact Coinbase customer service. Because I had more unanswered questions regarding this matter I contacted USAA again. This time I spoke to a supervisor and I was informed that the Coinbase transaction was not a withdrawal on my account, but instead two attempted deposits into my account from Coinbase on separate days. I was told that Coinbase had insufficient funds when making the deposit attempts. I have never heard of a business operating this way before. Why would a business proceed with a business transaction that involved a deposit, knowing that they didnt have the funds to cover it? I feel that any business would wait until they had the fund first before proceeding with such a transaction. I have contacted Coinbase and waiting to hear back from them as well. I would like to know if anyone else has had similar experiences with USAA. If you have, I would like to hear from you.
I love the fact that they reimbursed all atm fees. They also have great rates on loans.
My husband has been a member with USAA for almost 28 years. From a brand new Lt to his retirement as a Lt Col. We made an international purchase... or tried to (from a place I've ordered from before BTW) we verified PRIOR to pressing the process payment button through VISA AND also verified after with USAA it was NOT a fraudulent charge when we recieved the text to confirm that... yet the charge was still declined. AND our account is now under "review" for fraud. We can't access our money now for who knows how long (They say 3 buisness days, but I've seen comments regarding this and it seems that's what it starts as but that time gets longer) even after verifying multiple times this was a purchase WE were making. AND Now we have about 8 bills that aren't going to go through because we can only make deposits into our account. I probably would get this review alittle more~ if there was maybe actual fraud to look into... But we have verified multiple times now IT WAS US. So it seems, we're basically just waiting on someone to unlock our account now for a charge that was verified multiple times to be our own, BUT... In the meantime we don't have access to our funds and 8 bills we will be paying fees for when they bounce or don't go through because they are only accepting money INTO our account. And all this for a purchase we did everything we had to TO verify we DID MAKE.(OR TRIED TO the purchase never went through) And apparently nobody can do anything about this to speed the process up... Or at least we can't speak to anybody who actually can. I can't even view our accounts. And when I call the automated system it says my information isn't recognized. Like I don't exist... But Our direct deposit are still hitting just fine... Funny thing... Last month we had 20+ charges to Apple to our account back to back... That didn't trigger a "review" or even a block. This though... A international charge to a buisness I have purchased from before AND verified with VISA verification prior to pressing process AND through USAA verification AND verifying by phone in person... This does though. Hopefully Navy Fed treats their members alittle better
I left the Army on February 16th after given two weeks notice of my discharge. As soon as I knew that I indicated that by filling out USAA's transitioning service members resources. On March 1st I received no more income and since there wasn't any time to apply and be approved for normal VA and financial resources that Veterans receive I applied to several other financial assistance programs since and the only resources we (my family and I) have received was emergency food stamps as I was denied or received no reply for rent or utilities assistance, so my last option was to withdraw my retirement savings to prevent being sent a nonpayment of rent this month as well as paying for utilities and debts I owe. However, when I received this money and tried to deposit it, it was immediately put on hold and only less than 10% of the balance was deposited, which I assumed had a $10,000 deposit limit. Because of these holds, which when I called today to see if they could remove it, they said they couldn't and wouldn't do anything until the hold was removed which is March 16, which by then I will be sent nonpayment of rent this month and allow the landlord the option to begin eviction. I will also have more late fees for returned payments. I chose USAA specifically because I thought they would understand and be sympathetic to my situation since USAA only serves service-members and their families but now it feels like our only relationship between us is for debt collection. These holds also prevent me from preparing to move out of our house this month to attend trade school. I can't afford to wait until the 16th to use my money and because of this I can no longer recommend USAA as The Service-members Bank as my treatment from my transition to civilian life has been a nightmare due to them. I will probably have to go into more debt just to not have my family and I be homeless.
I appreciate all the customer service all the help the supply and how nice and friendly they are!
Answer: My daughter is an attorney for a company that handles the sea military forces and she told us to change because my husband is a veteran. I am so grateful we did because they have never let us down once. I saw the bad reviews and I just can't imagine them getting a bad review because they have ALWAYS been excellent with us.
Answer: It took me nearly 30 minutes on hold to cancel insurance
