Don't fall for United Healthcare Dental plans. It is a scam. They deny most of the claims based on the history. On top of it they don't let you terminate the insurance plan and if you stop paying them they send your case to they own collection agency.

I have been getting Epidural Steroid Injections for years using UHC. It went from no preauthorization needed and at most 6 per year. To preauthorization required and 6 per year. To 3 per year and preauthorization needed.
To which I have spoken with several of your customer service reps and supervisors who flat out lied and placed blame on the provider.
So I have supposed to wait till next year to address severe back pain? All to save money when profit should not be the purpose of insurance companies. I am going to write to all the officials in my city to get rid of your contract as our benefits are slowly eroding year by year. Why am I paying you premiums?
Look elsewhere for insurance coverage!

I don't think this poor excuse for a health insurance company deserves even one star. I am currently getting ready to fire this company. They are great from sucking up half my paycheck but that's about it. Here has been my experience with them: 1. For several years I have been using a free style meter to monitor my blood sugar. I called in my prescription (I have had it for years) and they denied it. Apparently, they will not cover that. 2. My wife went into the eye doctor for an exam and purchased some new glasses. UHC covers the basic exam but no percentage on new glasses. 3. While on a road trip, my wife injured her ankle. We were seen at the local emergency room. UHC did not cover any of the cost and we got hit with a $1,400.00 bill. 4. I was in the hospital for three days with COVID. Again, UHC did not cover anything and I am stuck with a bill over $4,000. 00. 5. I started having shoulder problems/pain. I went to the doctor and they x-rayed it. The doc noted an old injury and told me to get a better idea of treatment, I needed an MRI. A week later UHC sent me a letter stating THEY determined the MRI was not required and denied it. UHC to the rescue! I guess me doctor does not know as much as UHC. Currently, I am getting rid of this poor excuse for a company. Run from these guys because your going to go broke covering medical expenses they do not cover.

If denying so many procedures I switched to Fidelis Care. The most egregious offense is the constant harassment of phone calls trying to get us back. At the least I request 20 times to stop calling. They promised to remove my number but they lied. I had to spend $80 for a call blocker.

United Healthcare denied acute care rehab for my aunt who suffered a stroke, even though it was ordered by her doctor. This decision was made without ever seeing my aunt. And it was made a full week after the request was sent. Apparently United Healthcare uses.the pony express.

This company's practice of denying coverage for a life-saving medication is criminal. To expect the son of a war hero, who fought bravely for this Country, to pay $3000 per year for a specific medication he was used since 2014 is unacceptable. Time for a really good Class Action Lawsuit to make this company honest. Can we say Monsanto?! Its in the works, folks. And it will exceed $1Billion.

33 radiation treatments, 9 chemotherapy treatments and here i am crying at Safeway because uhc won't pay. They refuse to pay for tube feeding food and decent supplements. Have throat cancer can't talk well and they just keep denying what the doctors subscribe. Terrible company. I signed up in 2014 for just part D, imagine my shock when i found the representative signed me up for everything. I asked for a copy of what i signed up for and the representative couldn't supply one. Just never had to use my medical until 2021 when i discovered that i had been hoodwinked.

The "care" received while having Unitedhealthcare is a joke at best. They have a 3rd party making
all decisions about whether services rendered are "medically necessary" and covered or not. They try to deny everything! (Ex: the ER did an MRI because they thought I was having a stroke, Unitedhealthcare tried to deny covering this because they did not believe it was medically necessary and their 3rd party was really pushing to deny). The doctors that you actually want to go to are "out of network" and trying to find decent doctors within the network is a joke, their customer service will not help you either. The coverage is next to nothing, unless you've already gone broke covering the extremely high deductibles. They claim to offer telehealth and nurses on call, but the nurses can never answer any questions and their Telehealth just cancels your appointments without helping you. You definitely do not get quality care/service for what you will pay for with this company to "cover" you.

Be careful the dirty secret is that UHC pay RNs and MDs to reject your care. They have recipes for having MDs, DOs and RNs argue with your doctor and they get paid to say no!

DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE CARRIER if you plan on doing anything more than regular Dr visits. Anything past routine Dr visits will not be honored/covered, despite what they say. I have a Dr saying I need a surgery for my health and the chat rep said it was covered but when it came to the Dr to verify coverage they have declined it twice. What am I paying for?!?!?

#FEEDBACK
September 8, 2021

I am a provider. As of this correspondence I have been on hold for 1 hour and 8 minutes. It took my colleague to place a second to get movement on the call for the patient to be supported. The people who answer the phone appear to be good people, their systems appeared to be flawed.

1 incident is enough
August 9, 2021

My husband has UHC insurance through his job and it is the worst. My son and I were added as dependents on his insurance due to me going PRN at my job. WORST MISTAKE EVER! I have only had 1 encounter with them. I paid for my birth control out of pocket and was told I could be reimbursed. Then when it was time for them to... of course they gave me the run around. I have been transferred to several different people all to be told I can't be reimbursed because I received a 90 day supply because I filled my prescrption at Kroger but if I would have filled it at CVS I could get my money back. What sense does this make? Needless to say, I'm out of $90 and will be switching my insurance back to Aetna during open enrollment!

I was stuck with UHC for several years through my employer. It was ok coverage. I have heart/lung/neurological conditions.

February 2021 I was admitted for a bleeding ulcer. They had to take many blood draws to monitor the situation and ended up giving me blood. They refused to pay for the draws claiming the company was not in network. The hospital was but I guess I was supposed to ask every time they drew blood if they were in network - and do what - refuse? I had lost half of the blood and was just trying to stay alive.

A month later I signed up for Medicare and UHC advantage. Biggest mistake ever. Nurse from UHC called the cardiologist thinking I was in heart failure. Why? Because I didn't answer the phone right away when she called. I spent 2 days answering different doctors phone calls to explain it was typical spring allergies and UHC is clueless.

Now it's bad enough the pharmacy harasses me to refill and pick up but UHC sent an email that I have a prescription that needs refilling and don't forget to do that. I unsubscribed to the email so they called me within hours to discuss refilling my meds.
As I am not incompetent I will be changing companies ASAP. UHC crosses way too many privacy lines and still leaves you with high medical bills to pay.

I'm currently assigned to United Health Optum Arcadia, CA under uhc.com/calpers. I was assigned to doctor T in March 2021. I contact the Arcadia office 0n 5/26/21 to request an exam and a referral for a colonoscopy (+50 with family history of cancer). The agent said I was not assigned to doctor T, but she can shedule an appointment on 07/13/21.

Regulatory protocol dictates that a patient should be seen within two weeks if the case is not an emergency. A doctor should be able to process about 12 patients per day. If we use the appointment date of 07/13/21, then Dr. T has approximately 400 patients ahead of me, a highly inprobable scenario.

I contacted the United Health member service and spoke with agent S. She contacted the Arcadia office and was told that doctor T was fully booked until July 13th and my only option is to initiate a complaint with the quality team.

On 05/27/21, representative D from the quality team called and said that she would not be able to provide a time frame to expedite the date of the physical exam.

I have worked with many HMOs in the past and United Health is definitely the worst. They rely on uninformed customers to squeeze more profit.

Great Benefit Emulators (See The Rainmaker novel/film). Mircromanaging my treatment plan and denying the prescribed meds because of the price alone.
Despite the expertise of my specialists, after 3 years on the right combination of meds, Great Benefit, I mean UHC, wants me to try cheaper therapies that we have already tried without success. My health is clearly not their concern, just the cost of my health.
Customer service reps: it's always a different dept that must handle some other detail, an endless wait to be transferred and an accidental disconnection during the transfer. Every time I call.
