I have been on Thumbtack for almost 2.5 years. I have been a victim of paying for fake leads that are created by their fake-lead department, I have been sent (and paid for) leads when I had BLOCKED my calendar for vacations or other reasons... I have been sent "customer support surveys" when NOBODY contacted me. I have been a victim of people with an agenda to post negative reviews (either the competition or someone deranged). YOU HAVE NO DEFENSE against crazies or Thumbtack itself. They do as they please. I am amazed that not a single state attorney has looked into their business practices! I am a top pro but I cannot talk to a single human being with a pulse timely when I have any issue. Even though they get tired of telling you that you have priority support! NONEXISTENT. Bottom line: stay far far away from this rat's nest
MaryEllen Yeo tutored my daughter for the SATs over the past. She was fabulous and helped bring her scores up. I would thoroughly recommend MaryEllen as a tutor for any student. My daughter said, "Mom, MaryEllen is more than a tutor. She is like a Life Coach!" I totally agree as MaryEllen gave her hints an advice on how to approach any situation.
I have known Monib Thomas as a life coach and counseler for 17 years. I have experienced his expertise in my life, as well as sent others to him for help. Ive never met anyone who was not extremely impressed with the guidance, help and recommendations he has provided. I would never hesitate to give him the highest reference and review possible.
I contacted 5 of their "Pros" and not 1 of them got back to me. And if you go on Thumbtacks website to find anything else you'll find there is no way to contact you but they will send you a No Reply email wanting to know if you hired them? How can they not see NO ONE contacted me? They suck will never use or recommend.
If you looking for a handyman to do plumbing work in your home this is the place to go to find one. Most of their so-called pluming professionals are NOT licensed. If you are looking for a licensed and insured plumber to come into your home try Homeadvisor.com. Homeadvisor requires all of their professionals to be licensed and insured.
Sam And Toni of S & T Home Improvement did a great job painting our rental house
They were flexible with hours and did a nice job sanding and patching cracks and holes. They painted walls, ceilings, doors, baseboards and door trim. They were priced very reasonably and cleaned up the mess.
Vendors and Professionals BE AWARE
Thumbtack will charge you wrongfully for leads, even tho they admit you should not be charged, they still don't give you refund for it. You get charged even tho lead is not in your budget range. I have email from support team member stating i should not be charged automatically but declined to give a refund for charged amount! How much money did they wrongfully charged and how much money did Thumbtack made profit out of it?
Very poor customer service.
They didn't like my review because I asked them why I couldn't find the company I wanted as he had 5 stars and the company that was first only had 4 stars I think they might own the first company on there list lol
DJ philly phil, is a outstanding DJ very strong with old school music with a excellent list of jazz while we were eating our dinner, keep the floor moving again overall was a excellent choice in chosen him, very detailed with us
Finding out that as you pay for Thumbtack to promote you they charge you for every single lead automatically and they never tell you what the charges are. They will range from $10 to $60 for one lead you may not even get. Even if you are promoted, they promote other professionals that are also paying for the auto lead so they are getting paid from who knows how many professionals. If you do not use the promotion auto charge you can submit a quote to the customer but your bid is basically hidden in an email still promoting the other professionals. So in other words, Thumbtacks is in it for themselves, not the customers, not the professionals, for themselves! The only one making any money here is Thumbtacks. By the time you pay for their "leads" you have spent $300 to make $400 on a job. You are better off spending your money on an ad in the newspaper. Your odds are better!
Do not use this service! They are not reliable and do NOT screen their contractors. We spent over $1K to have a shower kit installed. It was done incorrectly and we now have to take it out and fix it. He did not follow instructions that were provided for back wall support and used liquid nails and sheet-rocked over the flange. We have not been able to reach him and we cannot even install our new shower door because he did not square and true the wall. Measurements are 55 inches at bottom and 56 at the top. The name of the contractor is Oliver Construction. I am disappointed that Thumbtack did not screen this unbonded and unlicensed contractor.
Marti Dryk has worked with me on my dissertation for several weeks. She provides on target knowledge and skills to assist me with the completion of this daunting task. She is fun to work with, patient and uplifting.
I used Thumbtack.com to find a mover, that turned out to be a company from hell (Toda Moving & Storage in Atlanta, GA - DO NOT do business with this mover). I subsequently wrote a candid review about the company... and Thumbtack.com DEACTIVATED my account! They claimed it was deactivated for "unprofessional behavior"... whatever that means. I hired a shady, inefficient company through your website and I can't even post a review about my AWFUL experience!?!? Their leads are substandard and unqualified businesses, they allow those businesses to post their own FAKE REVIEWS... but they censor and deactivate customer accounts that leave legitimate correspondence! I'm considering a negligence lawsuit as we speak... but in the meantime, stay away from Thumbtack.com!
Dont TRUST thumbtack to follow your lead and travel specifications. They Send u customers from 5 states away and call it a LEAD... What a joke. I have emails stating most jobs are between 3 and $8 and no lead will ever be over $24. Then they send me leads and what me to pay $78.05! DONT TRUST THEM!
Thumbtack changed their platform in November of 2018, Their price per lead skyrocketed for $3-8 per lead to $15-50. They no longer sent out auto quotes and they no longer gave u credit if a lead didnt reply within 48 hours. Now u paid no matter if a lead responded or not. Didnt matter if u never got a valid phone number or address. They charged u for every single person who view your profile or asked a question. Even with no info to give an estimate. The site was much better than home advisor when i joined in 2017, but they refuse to refund me for 2 leads that are both out of my requested area and out of my scope of work. I am also not licensed in the other county and it was 20 miles out of my requested travel area. STILL they would not refund my money. If there is a lawsuit I want to be a part of it.
Beyond Clean is a company that I would highly recommend for cleaning your carpet. The best choice package is worth the value. Daryl is very professiona, courteous, outstanding at what he does. He worked quickly and did a wonderful job on my carpet. His work was thorough and detailed. My carpet was a mess with stains, on stairs and landings and high traffic areas. I am well pleases their work and would recommend Beyond Clean to all my friends and family. KUDO's to to your staff and your efforts to go the extra mile. Outstanding job! 5 STARS for you!
Do not trust Thumbtack rep when they tell you that they need pros like you in your area. They'll take $300 to sign you up and in return they'll give you zero leads!
Btw. The $300 NOT REFUNDABLE!
They won't just let you about it!
Do not trust Alicia Elliot and Jacob Rasmussen! They'll say anything to get you to sign up!
I have been with Thumbtack since the end of 2013. I have had multiple issues with this company since they had no idea how to handle entertainers vs plumbers etc. Many hours on the phone explaining to them what was needed to help the client (me) to make them money and therefore to make me money. Things have shifted and now to the detriment of me. Apparently they have now decided to charge randomly whatever they want vs the 2 credits that they had before. Most importantly they didn't inform me of this and had no idea that this was going on for at least the last couple of months. I find this to be very scammy as they will make their money back no matter what, despite how they claimed to want the professional to succeed. I'm very upset and will not be working with them again.
Im a pro on thumbtack and very disappointed how things works in this site, they made this instant match saying its more easy for us to send quotes for us for free, and we got charge everytime we get a message for customers, but the thing is they send 10 quotes from 10 pros and they let the customer send it message for everyone so even when i got message saying your price is highly or i choose another pro i have to pay for them to $10 a $20 just to get this messages, so they got money from everyone but just one get the job... but they dont wanna fix this because is so good for them to get money for every pro... i really hope they change the things on their site start to charge only if we get hired because its not fair customer sended message to everyone and we have to pay without get the job...
Thumbtack is a big time scam. I was with them for four years. I left my well paying job and started my own business with Thumbtack it worked well for a while and I had 187 five stars reviews. I was providing for my family with the jobs I was getting from thumbtack. Then they changed everything overnight. They got greedy. They started to raise their price for the fake leads. Before each lead was priced around $3 to $7 but over night they raised the price to $30 and in some cases to $85. Most of the leads are fake and not only that thumbtack sends fake texts and emails to the consumers asking them if they are willing to take on a certain projects without any one present. I have numerous emails and leads like that from thumbtack in my archive. I gave up on sending quotes for the fake leads and I didn't send anything For two, three months then I realized that this scammers had charged me $380 for the quotes that I hadn't even looked at! IF THIS IS NOT A SCAM THEN WHAT IS?
Charges for leads have doubled for me in the past year. What use to be $4-6 for a lead soon became $8-10. I thought it was because I moved to LA. That was for a $85 service. I later offered a $20 and they charged me $12 for the lead. The next lead for my $85 I am charged over $14. You cannot get ahold of a real person in customer service. Begging for specific help they only messaged me with copy/paste responses. You go through the trouble of figuring out how to call them and over the phone it only leaves you with an option to text. They do not value their pros and are probably price gauging because the business itself is tanking. You don't get credits anymore even and you get charged for ‘direct' leads even though a customer will contact over several pros at once! It doesn't make sense to me anymore. Extremely disappointed and frustrated with their platform.

Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
