Needed wheelchair ramp built ASAP. Submitted request to Thumbtack and received a reply quickly. Rocky Roberts called and came out to go over my needs and promptly gave me an estimate, day and time. Work was done and was better than I expected. Cleanup and and work went off without a hitch. Will use Rocky for any other jobs needed.
This website operates as a complete scam, providing false leads. Often, these leads are unresponsive or lead to being ignored, and they even distribute the same lead to multiple individuals, fostering competition. Despite being well-qualified, I haven't been able to secure a single person from Thumbtack. I strongly advise avoiding this platform as it is a fraudulent and deceptive website.
Thumbtack sell one lead 3-4 times. This is bad, but it worked when I could get a refund. Over the last month, Thumbtack took $400 from my card and I had one client with a small job less than an hour for $50 and minus $18 for a lead.
I WAS a thumbtack pro for the last 2 years, I have spent thousands of dollars on leads and had over 20 different businesses join to them as well. I have over 160 positive reviews and only one review that was not 5 stars and even that one called thumbtack to tell them that it was a mistake, they were informed that it could not be taken down and that I would be shut down because of it. Now thumbtack has completely shut me down without even contacting me first. After talking to one of the phone reps I was told nothing can be done to reactivate it. I had my attorney look through all the thumbtack rules and guidelines and it does state that they can shut you down ONLY with probable cause in a written explanation. Well I never received one. That is a very very unprofessional way to run any company. I will stop at nothing to contact as many business that I know to make sure they give no more money to these scammers.
This is the most awful site to deal with. I had a client that gave me an issue as soon as i went in and her dog bit me. It was a painting project and she did not get primer and she was upset the darker color was soaking through. She contacted thumbtack and they wanted me to give her a refund and i refused due to her failing to provide correct paints. The pros pay for the leads. But they side with customers when it comes down to it home advisor or Angie's list is the best advertising sites.
They do not communicate with pros. Lie about their present and achievements in the market. Don't trust the reviews that they control. Very much a scam for your money. If they learned how to treat their pro's well, they would succeed with the homeowner market. Ivy league attitude scum, sit back and watch their model take money from people with no conscience.
We had a terrible experience with a thumbtack contractor. They didn't show up on time - if at all for scheduled appointments. The workmanship was poor, they made a mess and didn't clean up - didn't finish the job. They wanted the check paid to an individual, not the company listed - very shady. A rating of (1) is generous.
Thumbtack seemed like a good idea, they changed the way they do things. You only pay for the quote if the client contacts you! They are charging too much. $16.56 for a customer response, Im charging $20 for my service, no profit, pulse more than half of the people that contact you flake out. Not worth it.
You will be charged for quotes on jobs that you don't want. They have this cute little button that you can use that says DECLINE buts it's just for looks I suppose. If they deem it a valid quoted job, you are charged regardless of if you read the job request and decide that you had rather not take the job. This is where that decline button comes into play. I started using thumbtack over a year ago and liked it at the start but then they began the instant match. You either use it and get charged regardless of if you think the job will fit you or send each job quote yourself and end up not getting the work because instant match sends them quicker. Totally disgusted by the way I've been treated and will not be using thumbtack anymore.
I set up an account with a $100 budget for leads in my area. I blew through the $100 in less than 12 hours by getting leads that were a total waste of my time. People often times are feeling the waters for their project and are not even sure if they are actually going to proceed with their project. That being said I'm being charged for a lead on someone that more than likely isn't even going to do the project they were thinking about. Lots of tire kickers on this site that your billed for their lead. I visited 2 of the leads I was sent, and way under bid the job just to get the work and they still never called me back and have not hired anyone yet. Total waste of my time and money. People think your going to work for $20/hr as a professional. Don't waste your time or money with this site. It's a scam and they are a multi million dollar company bc of taking advantage of average people/ companies trying to make a living.
I'm a local DJ and I used to quote often on Thumbtack. I would perhaps book 1 out of every 12 events I quoted - which was okay. There are many HUGE DJ companies around my area that no doubt would quote on everything.
Now, Thumbtack have introduced a new pricing structure and basically now it costs about 7 credits to quote on any events where the price is $500 or more. It's literally costing a fortune to quote on jobs now and I've stopped quoting completely. It's a shame because I think Thumbtack had the right idea when they started out, but just go too greedy.
This was definitely a marketing mistake. I invested $150.00 and did not make a dime using Thumbtack. First, they can't verify your license. Second, they don't know the limits of the license. They think they are helping you by widening your target area to 100 miles away, but don't realize you can only practice in your home state. After you remove your payment method, they blow up you email with leads you can't use and every time you pass on one, you get a message asking you to put a payment method on the web. Even after you keep passing on those leads, they keep sending them to you. Third, you can spend the necessary time to prepare a lead to work with them, and they stand you up then the communication stops. I'm lucky I didn't wait around on someone that wanted to hurt me.
Hi Brenda, we appreciate you taking the time to leave this detailed feedback. We hear your concerns and want to improve your experience however we can. We're happy to check on the status of your license verification, we understand those delays can be frustrating. If you'd like to reach out to us directly through our social media channels with your account information, we'll locate your account and get you more information about your license status. We do require pros to list a valid payment method with us in order to receive leads. We'd also be happy to look into your preferences, it sounds like you weren't receiving the right leads. We hope to hear from you soon, thank you again for the feedback.
I own a video production business, and 90% of our work comes from Thumbtack.com. What's great about Thumbtack is that you don't need to waste time trying to find work - the work comes to you. Every day I get new leads arriving by email. Thumbtack literally saved my business. I would strongly recommend it to professionals and freelancers everywhere.
I recently had a deck that needed to be painted or stained. I was given advice and 3 different estimates. "People's Painter " arrived. They realized the deck was Mahogany. They proposed the right solution and had the best price. The team is responsive, knowledgeable and great. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to paint\ stain anything outside or inside. You will be pleased!
Adam Gray did a complete renovation of our home in Madison Park, Charlotte, NC. From the time of our first meeting until the work was completed, Adam continued to have our interest and desires for the home foremost on his list. His "can-do" attitude and professionalism was welcomed during each conversation. His work, skill level, and creativeness was a very welcomed commodity. He took a 60 year old home and made it a showcase. No one will ever go wrong by letting Adam and his team do the same to your property. Personally, I will promote his work to all that I know and more. Adam will not be satisfied with his work until it reaches perfection. Don't hesitate to contact him. You will not be sorry.
I have been trying for 7 MONTHS to get Grout Magic to come repair a grout cleaning job they did in my home. ( I've been told the repair would take about 20 minutes.) I can not get then to return my phone calls, texts, or emails. They guarantee their work. Yeah right, guarantee to frustrate the homeowner is all. Would not use them again! (This review is not about Thumbtack, I hope to use Thumbtack to assist in reviewing this company)
We’re so sorry that this has happened, Laurie. This is not something that we ever want our customers to go through. We have a great Marketplace Integrity team who would love the chance to talk to you and go over these concerns further. Please give us a call at (800) 343-1710 at your earliest convenience.
We look forward to speaking with you!
I am a Thumbtack Pro with a 96% 5 star review average. I found out today with no prior notice that their business model has changed and the cost of a lead for me has gone up so much that it no longer works for me to continue doing business with Thumbtack. I used them for 2 years and felt the leads were priced within reason but this change prices them out of the ball park.
I was with Thumbtack for 6 years and was very happy with their service as well as the cost. Overnight they went from having a great business model that was beneficial to the vendors that used them to being completely worthless. It is really sad.
As a customer looking for a service the initial experience was OK.
Than as it turned out some idiot froze my account. Speaking to their useless customer service yielded zero results. So, im going to stay away and wish you to do the same :)
This is a great company for free clients (consumers) but terrible for business owners. They charge for very low quality leads and don't care about customer service. They've created a program that auto responds for clients and they charge businesses even if the client never actually reaches out.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
