They stopped showing me the prices of how much it would cost to send a quote in my categories. When you get a customer thats interested they dont show you how much you have to pay to accept the lead until after. That is a scam i paid 22 dollars for my most recent matched quote. I had a customer message me on thumbtack that i did a job for 2 weeks before and they were trying to charge me for a new lead. Thank god i recognized the name and messaged the person outside of thumbtack.
Over the last 18 months, I have had three small home improvement projects which were presented to Thumbtack for bids and completion. On two of those three projects, Thumbtack claimed they could not provide a professional to complete the work. That is a failure rate of 67%. As such, I will not waste my future time waiting on Thumbtack to deliver...
Thumbtack pro brought me a lot of customers but I waste a lot of money on "fake " leads. Customers are not aware that if they
Contacted pro, that pro will pay for the
Lead. And tell me how it's possible that
Someone contacting you for service, and
I am responding in 1 minute and nobody
Ever responds. Did they change their
Mind? Could be. But they never even
Reply. Message usually marked as Read
Which is to mean that you have to pay
For this leads
There is a phone number of these
Customers, but they never respond on
Message either.
So I have to pay for this fake leads or for
Customers who don't know what they
Want (because they are contacting 5
Pros at the same time) $15-30. Which is
Not fair at all.
Thumbtack never return money for this
Suspicious leads
I am a professional who used Thumbtack for a year with no problems. Then this year they switched their method of communication with the customer and the pro. I did not receive any requests for months. In the past I was getting 5-10 per week. Also, they changed their way of communicating with the pros. No longer could I speak to a real CS person, everything is via text msg. This was a real joke. Nobody would really care to help. Just the same answers over and over again. I still had money on account but could not get it back, even though they were not sending me requests to be able to recoup the money. So I tried emailing them and "no answer". This used to be a fairly good way to get customers but it has really gone downhill. I consider them a rip off now and would not advise anyone to use them.
I would rather shoot myself in the head or set myself on fire then use Thumbtack again. In the last three days, one of their employees did not call me back. The guy that was supposed to give me a price on painting my deck was a no-show on Sunday. It was great to sit on my $#*! for two hours, waiting for snow when you show up as I write this I was going to get some tack warmer chance in this guy supposed to be fixing my cement wall you're supposed to be here at eight that is currently almost 1030 My Pl. Is it spend the extra money on Angie's list and to have somebody that knows what time is show up. My feeling is the people that post that are looking for work and wanna be paid well but they do not want to show up.
I have attempted to hire professionals for 2 separate projects and figured Id try Thumbtack. They claim you will get up to 5 quotes within 24 hours. The first time was within 24 hours, but it was one company contacting me. The second time, was 48 hours and again, only one company contacted me. And they clearly were not interested in helping anyway.
I recognize that technology and "advisor" sites are supposed to make it easier, but I have found the opposite to be true. Stick with research and talk to a couple companies and obtain quotes on your own. Thumbtack isn't getting it done.
I would highly recommend Joe Austin with Anytime Restoration to do any home projects or remodeling. He is dependable, reliable & very competitive with his bids. His work is impeccable. Thanks Joe!
Sincerely, Cindy S.
I would like to praise my cleaning expert, Michelle. Finally, I have a cleaning service I can count on to leave by beach house beautiful! No longer do I have to worry about how it is going to look when my new renters arrive! She is so thorough. She cleans everything and I am so happy to have her taking the best care ever of my rental home.

Do not use thumbtack. They are one sided to favor their pockets. I'm an electrician and I see what customers select out of all the services they are offered. Most of the time they select the wrong service which increases the price of the lead. If you dispute the charge they deny you just like that. They have no idea what they are doing when it come to charging leads. It's a $#*!ty company. I deleted mine. I hope you do too.

Had the need of an quality welder and time was a concern selected Angel Bennett found her to be professional timely and of the utmost caliber would use her on any project in the up coming year well done
I was charged nearly $30.00 for a quote that was $160.00. It turned out the potential customer was just shopping. Additionally, it's bad enough we really don't know how the systems calculates the fee, it's NOT EVEN consistent! I've been charged approx $10 for the exact same quote. Customer support is a JOKE. All they do is repeat the same thing over and over via live chat. Which is time consuming and NOT effective.
Let me go through the process as I see if from a recent computer help needed...
==================
5 people buy X# of Quotes to bid. (Cost the bidder $$)
Sometimes, not all quotes are looked at and Thumbtack says they refund the # of quote credits if the quote is not looked at, but lets get real... 5 Quotes get looked at, because that's what the customer will do... 1 bid is accepted... Profit for Thumbtack is 4 quotes based upon the non-wining bids, + 1 quote for the one that did win the bid... This sums up the amount you can lose if you don't win bids because you refuse to under price your services to win bids. It'd be cheaper for me to advertise in free places/spaces and pick the work I'll do. As a side note the 1st time I used it was a free try and someone needed a power supply for her laptop. Located one by phone at a nearby BestBuy and told her that was the fastest place to get one for cheap. Another happy customer. Didn't charge her one penny, didn't seem right.
Jeanne has done house sitting for me a couple of times. I find her to be honest and trustworthy. She sends me pictures and texts at each visit. She did have to meet a plumber there once to have a toilet fixed that kept running. I would recommend her for your house sitting. I found her thru a neighbor that used her for pet sitting and they were very pleased with the care of their animals as well. It's nice to have someone reliable ti watch after your home and communicates with you.
If I could, there would be no limit to the stars i would give for this company! Mr. Souza responded immediately to my request! Within a few minutes, I had the cost and an appointment which was also within a three day waiting period! His work is amazing! I highly recommend this company! Mary C
They don't provide protection for pro's
They will take customers side of the story and will not let u you show any evidence on you behalf. So if you want something done for free hit them up. Not good for your business. Stay away from thumbtack
I am happy to write in support of Be On Time Cleaning Service. My house is always thoroughly cleaned. I enjoy coming home to a house that looks and feels clean. The cleaner uses products that leave a wonderful scent. My house never smells like beach. They are dependable and on time.

Jean was excellent. We saw immediate changes in our dogs behavior. I have owned dogs and horses my whole life and I watch Caesar Millan all the time but have not been able to put his methods into practice successfully on my own. Jean is able to see the problem and break it down so that it is understandable and doable. I highly recommend her.
We're so glad to hear you found a great pro to work with your dogs! Sounds like your project went well, we appreciate you leaving a review and hope to work with you again.
I paid one of your contractors Alex of Silver Spring $475.00 to do a job at my house in College park which he never did and has refused to refund my money despite several phone calls and false promises. How do I get my money back? Can you assist?
I Hired a "Pro" through Thumbtack. The "Pro" turned out to be a scam artist who would take your deposit and disappear. Thumbtack does not check their pros and it is easy to for scammers to create fake positive reviews. Myself and another consumer posted a review on the "Pro" within minutes of each other, victims of the same scam. Thumbtack removed the"Pro" and the reviews, effectively hiding the evidence that it is happening there. Thumbtack is very effective at bringing consumers to scammers.
The pro I hired never once answered emails from me and has virtually dropped me. Horrible and frustrating service. Rude.
I've waited to give this review of the graphic artist thinking that he would contact me but never did after two days of waiting to hear back from him!
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
