I've purchased devices twice on Swappa and sold once. Both times I purchased, the item I received was less than described. Buying via Swappa is absolutely, positively NO BETTER than eBay--probably worse. EBay at least has its own protection system in place as an additional layer before PayPal has to be involved. Via Swappa, as other reviewers have stated, you're pretty much on your own. I feel confident that my most recent bad experience will be found in my favor, but it's probably going to take 3-4 weeks for all that crap to run its course. The people who run Swappa are laughing all the way to the bank on the $10 per sale fee. I bet they don't have 10 people working for them. Save your time and money and buy your stuff on eBay, Amazon... even craigslist would be better than this.
I've had two satisfying transactions through Swappa and another not so much...
The bad experience involved a non-working device. The mostly hands-off approach from the Swappa staff was disappointing when I began to pursue a refund (that I'm still waiting for).
The good experiences left me feeling totally satisfied with the transaction. Fast shipping and products were as advertised.
Good place to sell your device. We have been using Swappa for years. Some sales even with 20 photos buyers complain and detailed description buyers still complain and give you bad rating. Rating should be removed. A $ 50 phone is not perfect. Please understand.
I have been using Swappa for about a year now. To look up phone prices and see if there are any good deals. I have gotten 4 phones throw them so far and only one that was not as it showed in the pic but the return went fast and no prob with the seller.
My first transaction on swappa was extremely positive. I bought an iPhone 5 from a guy for $116. It was in better condition than a promise with almost no scratches. Inserted Sim card and all worked great. Would definitely do business with swappa sellers again.
I'm a first time user of Swappa. I bought two phones and both arrived quickly in great condition as described. This option is so much better because Swappa checks out the device before you buy giving an extra layer of trust and security.
Thanks Swappa
I had never heard of Swappa until last week. I stumbled upon it when searching for a used phone sorted by carrier. I've run into several problems in the past trying to buy phones off the internet (incompatibility issues, receiving goods that didn't match descriptions, unscrupulous sellers/repairers, etc.), but Swappa made it easy. I got exactly what I wanted for a great price.
Swappa does a great job of ensuring phones are clean and in good working order. I can hardly believe how easy it is to use and communication with sellers has been A+. I've already purchased 2 phones using swappa!
Communication between sellers and site administrators are top notch, I made a mistake purchasing the wrong phone from a seller, and both parties were able to assist me. Thank you for providing service
I've used allot of places over the years to buy phones, and I'll say I've been exclusively using Swappa for a couple years now. The reason is far less headaches compared to say the most well known auction site. I've had a few situations where a problem cropped up that honestly I don't believe the seller was aware of that have been quickly solved. Once got the wrong model phone by accident, quickly refunded and sent back. Another time a slightly not functional speaker, the seller quickly did a partial refund to cover replacement(my suggestion, I'm fine replacing it). But I've also had a half dozen times where everything went absolutely perfectly. Overall the experience has been excellent overall and I'll keep shopping here for things that are available through the site.
I had some bad experiences with eBay and Craigslist mobile deals, so far my first Swappa buy was great. Great price, good communication throughout, device as described, what else can you ask for? Next time I need a new device I will definitely start here.
Absolutely love this App, didn't know it existed until a friend told me about it. I'm glad to know there's a website where you can purchase a cellphone, tablet or notebook safely and at a price that meets your budget. I've made 2 succesful purchases so far since joining Swappa and can say that they have exceeded my expectations. All Transactions are handled through PayPal so you dont have to worry about meeting strangers and worrying about your safety. I highly recommend Swappa to anyone whos tired of paying exorbitant prices to electronics retailers and cellphone companies who treat us like a human ATM. Just go ahead and give it a try, you wont be disappointed. Thanks for reading my 2 cents on Swappa.
Purchased a brand new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for about the same price as used ones on other websites. Seller shipped the phone fast and it arrived within two days. Can't say enough about the great value provided by Swappa!
Stumbled across this amazing business when looking for a used phone. Found what I needed in a few clicks. Purchased a phone, then received it 4 days later exactly as described. Extremely pleasant buying experience. I'm spreading the word!
The last two times I've needed an upgrade phone, I've gone to Swappa and after comparing other online options I've gone with a Swappa seller. Knowing a third party is involved helps the seller stay above board and weeds out less than desirable sellers. That said, it also comforts the seller knowing they have someone in their corner watching out for them as well. It might cost a little more to do it this way but I'd probably not buy from another source except new which I can't afford. Thanks Swappa
I recently completed my first purchase on Swappa. Their buyer and seller protection policies gave me confidence that they hold both parties wholly responsible for their respective roles in the transaction. I have already recommended this website to my close friends and family members.
After having sold several phones myself I've finally bought one for myself on Swappa. Just like always selling, the purchasing process is painless. After a few brief exchanges with the seller everything shipped quickly and was delivered even quicker. I will definitely be using Swappa again in the future.
It's always a little bit worrisome to send money to strangers who promise everything's mint, perfect. And, we are novices--buying online and stepping into smartphone technology for the first time.
So it was with some trepidation that we bought the cell phone.
But we were very happy with the transaction. Swappa is a very friendly site that eases worries from the get-go by being both non-technical in its outreach yet radiating complete technical competence when it comes to the devices it handles.
The seller whose product we chose was extremely prompt, friendly, accommodating. An excellent experience.
We would highly recommend buying your next phone through Swappa.
As the title says, this is the only place I'll ever purchase a used phone from. I've never had a bad experience and these guys are really thorough in keeping their sellers as honest as can be done. Both eBay and Craigslist are notorious for stolen phones, not something I worry about on Swappa.
I just received my first order from Swappa and believe this is an awesome way to get your next phone or tablet. I had a great experience and better "service" by way of communication than many new retailers.
Answer: Hi Neisha. Swappa is quite safe! Please see the 500+ reviews on this site referencing the safe and pleasant buying experience that is Swappa. Please email help@swappa.com if you have further questions. Thanks for using Swappa!
Answer: Hi Peggy. If you receive a device that is not as advertised then you can return it for a refund. Our policy is that simple. Swappa staff works hard to prevent problems from happening, and PayPal has extensive buyer protections in case they do. Buy with confidence. Thanks for using Swappa.
Answer: Hi Alfred, Swappa requires all users to provide the ESN number for each device when creating a listing as a verification step. For more questions, please email our support team - help@swappa.com Thanks!
Answer: Very safe, I've bought and sold over 40 phones using Swappa and have only had one problem... When that happened both Swappa and PayPal had my back.
Answer: Yes, you should remove and keep your SIM card when you sell your used phone. SIM cards are tied to your account, so are not transferable. More information and why in our FAQ: https://swappa.com/faq/sell/sim_card_included
Answer: Because they are scammers and a holes. They can't be bothered with you. Awful site. Use eBay instead.
Answer: Swappa guarantees it which goes above and beyond paypal. They are running IMEI checks and they do a great job. It's on you when you receive your phone to go through the phone check list to make sure it's good, checking cameras, microphones wfi, bluetooth, water damage check, things like that. Its really worry free buying.
Answer: Contact Swappa support. If an item is not as described by seller, the buyer is entitle to a refund.
Answer: Most sellers don't ship to African countries. This is because they include a reasonable fee on their prices to cover for shipping in the US, I guess shipping to Africa would come at a higher cost and they seem to be avoiding that for whatever reason. However, you can research and register for a freight forwarding company and have your orders shipped to them. In turn, these companies will forward your order to you when they receive it. As I pointed out before, this is something you have to read about and carefully consider. Hope that helps.
Swappa has a rating of 4.1 stars from 3,177 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with Swappa most frequently mention great experience, new phone and mint condition. Swappa ranks 5th among Marketplace sites.
Sorry to hear you were disappointed with items you received from two Swappa sellers. That experience is not the norm, as well over 90% of our sales end successfully with a happy buyer and seller. That's one reason we require listings on the site to have verification photos showing the condition of the device you should receive. If you don't get what was advertised you are protected via PayPal and get a refund.
Swappa is indeed a small company, and we currently have about 20 people working for us, the majority of which are moderators who work to review listings and support buyers and sellers.
