This company is very organized and made it easy to follow through. Everything went smoothly and I received my material back faster than expected. They kept me up to date every step of the way which was comforting as these are our precious memories.
However, I feel like a three minute 8mm shouldn't be charged the same as a long VHS. I sent in two different orders; one with 24 8mm film, and one with 24 VHS tapes. I received the first order back with all the material on one DVD, the second order had 24 DVD's. That just doesn't compute in my mind. Unfortunately everyone seems to do it this way and because of that I will probably use this company again.
Not only have they had my stuff for over 3 months but I received back half my order along with other peoples memories! They keep promising daily a tracking number for the rest of my stuff but I have yet to receive these irreplaceable memories from the 40s! They have lied countless times and do not return calls or emails! Please protect yourself! UPDATE- The owner called me and confirmed my worst fears that his manager has been lying to me and they have LOST my memories!
Sent 10 VHS and 8mm tapes in a box supplied by Southtree…waited a couple months and presto! I had an easy USB plug that I could put into my big screen tv and have a party with popcorn, along with a lifetime of memories and laughs! I plan to send another 10 tapes to Southtree again soon. Thanks for the great experience!
My husband purchased two groupons for the transfer service. I was very hesitant to send my precious memories of the children. But I sent them. When I opened the box and did an inventory, I noticed two of the original tapes were missing. I proceeded to watch the hours of DVDs, praying that at least the tapes had been transferred to DVD. I am heart broken, we had taken a trip to Australia. Now that recording is lost. My daughter won a world pinto championship- that recording is also lost. I also noticed that the DVDs they sent had smudges and scratches... Would not do this again.
This company is very unprofessional. They say that the service takes up to 6 weeks and this is week 10 and still I have no results. They couldn't convert one of my tapes and only refunded my 9$ and never told me prior to the service that there were any issues. This was supposed to be a mother's day gift and they made the experience terrible.

All of my 21 Family tapes from my childhood are gone forever thanks to them. My heart is broken. From about 1989 to 2008. The day I was brought home from the hospital. My first birthday. The day I graduated highschool. Videos of my grandfather who passed away when I was 10. Gone forever. They mail their stuff back to you like it's trash apparently because it went missing in the mail and has been missing for 6 months
I sent Southtree Vhs tapes that were 26 years old. They all turned out wonderful. On one of my tapes they put a message that because of the tapes bad quality they could not digitize it. I looked at that one first and was pleasantly surprised. It was still better than the original. Thank you for saving all my fond memories.
This is an interim review. I placed an order with Southtree on December 1st, 2015 for digital conversion of 15 tapes. After mailing the tapes in, I received a confirmation that they were received on December 11th. I spoke with them briefly in December to get a status and was assured that everything was going ahead on schedule. As of January 23rd, 2016 my project is listed as only "Sorted". I have offered to pay for the return of my tapes if the company is having any financial issues. I am waiting for a response but, frankly, I'm getting a little nervous. Full disclosure: I did not opt for the expedited service for an additional fee. My suggestion, tread with care if you are serious about using them.
I'm a retired musician and have a lot of cassette tapes of my gigs over the years. I didn't want to lose the memories or the music so I sent them to Southtree and in less than a week they were back. I was so impressed that this week I sent in some mini camera movies and can't wait for the DVD. This service is PERFECT. Period

1. The Southtree thumb drive was an unformatted drive with no data on it.
2. The process took almost 3 months.
3. The numbering of the Southtree CD's did not correspond to the barcode numbering of the original tapes, so it was confusing.
4. Two of the Southtree CD's were duplicates of other Southtree CD's, so more confusion!
I don't usually write reviews but in this case I feel compelled to share my experience. Southtree has some work to do to be a dependable resource for digital transferring services.

I sent in tapes from our once in a lifetime trip, an African Safari. I got updates by tracking my package. They were sent to me by FD EX and then turned over to the US postal service. When reading policy, it says that they will be sent to me by their choice of delivery. I'm not sure why it didn't come to the house by FD EX. They got lost once they were turned over to the postal service. This happened in January and are just now offering to refund me... we will see. VERY poor customer service!
My Southtree order was supposed to be completed in 6 to 8 weeks according to the Southtree website at the time. My order took approximately 6 1/2 months. When my tapes were returned with the thumb drive, the thumb drive they sent was defective. I asked to have digital access in the meantime, and they gave me that as a courtesy, although it took over a week for them to give me that access. A new thumb drive finally arrived after a couple of weeks. All-in-all, I was very disappointed although I tried to cut them some slack for possible CoVid related employee shortages.
I saw their ad on Facebook and decided to give it a try. I had many family VHS tapes that I couldn't watch because I no longer have a VCR (and I wanted to get rid of the bulky tapes). I sent them to Southtree for conversion to DVD. They confirmed delivery and then sent an email every time they made progress. The original message said about 5 weeks but everything was returned in 3. The CD's were labeled the same way that I did on the VHS. And they are perfect. I am so happy I did this and do not hesitate to recommend Southtree for your precious memories.
I sent some priceless 8mm films for conversion - had a concern the first time that they were not done properly, they re- ran them and I was pleased with the results. Turnaround time was very reasonable.
Everything done was great. To hear the recorded music again, that was recorded in 1959-1960 while in Verdon/Etain France, was fabulous. There was a little static, which came from the Germany based radio station. And there was one reel with garbled noise (I must have recorded over some of the original music).
Otherwise, all the CDs are great.
I have had 20 VHS tapes digitized. Great quality. I needed help and the support person was great. I love the email updates so you know when they receive the tapes, when they start digitizing, etc. I highly recommend this company.
Very happy. Was kept informed as the process progressed. Had some questions, and got a response very quickly. Disappointed that all tapes couldn't be done, but that was the fault of my old tapes. I found some more tapes, and am planning to get them done soon. Thank you very much. Very satisfied
I am very satisfied with the DVD's made from old VHS tapes. Southtree kept me updated on the status from their receiving the VHS tapes to shipping and all steps in between. Peace of mind. Highly recommend Southtree.
