Promised communication about our order was non existent. On the other hand we received almost daily advertisements when we had already ordered what we wanted. We finally blocked the number after we got our order.
TERRIBLE! AVOID! STAY AWAY! Every video we sent to them came back with some kind of error, and one video was lost. It has now been almost a full year that I've been dealing with their customer service department trying to get the issue fixed and NO progress... I keep getting the run around. Best to send your precious memories to people well equipped to handle them NOT Southtree...
Overcharged, basically doubled, and they blamed me for the charges. I had to send them a copy of my purchase before they would honor the price. They also blamed me when they mis-shipped the wrong box. I can't control what box they send, nor could I control the mis-information they emailed me about labeling the movies the converted to digital. Basically they won't name the movies, They will just labeled them 01, 02, 03. Good grief. For the prices they change they could have been courteous and helpful rather than blameable.

I took a look at your order and it looks like you may have mistakingly redeemed your groupon for the 20 item box and not the 40 item box that you wanted. You sent in 38 items on a 20 item box, which is why you received the invoice for those extra items! I do apologize for any confusion there. I see that you have already reached out to our customer service team, and even though the wrong box size was purchased, we did understand the mix-up and resolved the invoice for you, so no additional payment was required. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible regarding the labeling of your items. We keep track of each of your items using our unique barcoding process, since they are digital files received back, you can change the name of the files to whatever you see fit! We use the barcoding system in case you were to have any issues with a specific item, we can quickly and easily identify it by the barcode number. If you had purchased discs, you would be able to provide titles by visiting our website before sending your order in. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!
I waited to get my order, but when I did get my box it was very surprising. Instead of my childhood videos I was sent videos of men in their underwear dressing up in women's clothes getting high. Seriously. You can't even get a hold of anyone because they do not answer their phone. You can only contact them via email. What a terrible mistake. Now I have to worry who has my childhood videos since I clearly have someone else's videos.
Recent update 1/30/18 Southttree has refunded all of my money. They don't think my pin drive with my videos was jeopardized, but of course they don't know. Overall, I am happy to have my money back and I'll take my business elsewhere.
Don't hesitate to send your memories to this company. I have to admit I was. So the first time I sent only three and was very pleased. The second time I sent 10 without hesitation and again pleased. I was kept informed from the day they received them to the day they were shipped back to me.

I was very happy with my experience with Southtree. They kept me informed when they received my films, updated when they started the transfer, alerted me when they shipped the transferred product back to me. All of my originals were returned in great condition. The quality of the transfer was equal to watching the film. I have already sent my second batch of films to transfer.
Maggie is outstanding. She was very helpful in placing my orders, she was courteous and knowledgeable of her product. And, she was sensitive to my customer requirements.
I bought a groupon from Southtree to convert my VHS tapes and Hi8 tapes to DVD. I did this over the summer, got all 15 tapes converted and had 2 copies of each made. I think it took about 1 month. I had a problem with one set of DVDs, I had asked for 2 they only made one. I called customer service, they took care of the problem right away. I loved getting the emails on the progress of the conversion - when my tapes arrived, when they were converted, when they were shipped back to me. The quality is great. Thanks. I would use them again.
I have used this service twice. Once for 8mm home movies and again for photos. The service was great and the process was easy. I called customer service on my last order to ask a question and the person was helpful and polite. I plan to use this service again, as I just cleaned out my mother's home and uncovered 90 plus years of photos. Also, I received my order back in 10 days. That may not be the norm, but I appreciated the prompt service.

It took them months to digitize our 8mm films. Actually a day to do the work and months of just waiting for them to start it. They just kept sending emails that they got it, were checking it in, reviewing it, etc. Everything but doing the conversion. When we finally got the CDs, the format was only usable on a DVD player. I could not view them on my PC. Also, the videos were very jumpy and very dark. I can't see the original films. But I don't think they were that dark.

The only thing they did extremely well is to keep me informed of all the delays in processing my order. There was alot of delays.
I have used Southtree for both old 8mm film conversion to DVD and old reel-to-reel tape conversion to CD. Their service is efficient, reasonably priced, and results are excellent. I appreciate their emails indicating the various stages of their process.
I am impressed with the converted digital files. I had a small issue getting the promo code to work and there was an. Issue with one of the tape's audio initially. Customer service was able to quicky address both issues.
I wanted to find a way to transfer my home movies from VHS to DVD. I came across Southtree on facebook and decided to take a chance. I was nervous at first, these are treasures of the heart. I sent in 20 tapes and with in a couple of weeks I recieved all my tapes back and all of the DVDs. Great quality, great work. I'm so happy and now gathering my next load of tapes to send in. I would recommend Southtree to anyone who wants to have their memories saved to dvd. Thank you Southtree!
Photos and videos are priceless memories of our lives. Southtree made it possible not only to relive those memories but preserve them very well as well. The conversions from VHS to digital and audio cassette tape to digital were high quality; the videos did not show the usual signs of aging, and the music were as crisp as yesteryears'. They also keep you up to date as to the progress of your project and they do so interestingly, humorously and consistently. Southtree actually missed to convert two of the most important VHS tapes so I sent them back for conversion and they did so with no additional fee including shipping back and forth. I am very pleased with Southtree's service and will definitely strongly consider Southtree again once I have my hands on my trunkload of old photos, videos and music.
Decided to use Southtree, saw a Groupon and gave it a try. Sent 10 tapes that to us are priceless but not our most treasured in case something happened to them. Southree did keep us up to date with tracking process, which I appreciated but like other customers, we received a sticker on 4 of our tapes stating "sorry... due to damage or age permanent tracking issues" which is BS! There wasn't anything wrong with our tapes before we sent them and as we're not professional videographers, there were blank segments between when we video taped. It seems as if they just stopped recording after one blank segment and didn't bother to look any further on the tape. Very disappointed - now looking into other options and companies.
This place is rocking it! I sent photo slides that had been given to me from my grandmother. These slides were taken between 1950 and the late 1980's, but regardless of the date taken, they all came out great. What I personally loved about Southtree is that they provide updates throughout the production process - everything from them receiving your package to them prepping your product to be digitalized. It took only approximately 8-10 weeks for the process to be completed, which is pretty quick in comparison to the rest of the industry. Southtree individually cleaned each photo slide I provided them, and then put them on a CD data disc. The moment I shared with my family, it instantly revived memories that had been buried with these old photo slides that hadn't been touched in over 20 years.
Overall, I would highly recommend Southtree, and plan on using them again.
I'm glad I transferred some old tapes before it was too late — though there were issues with communication after the standard processing time. All was going well though I didn't hear anything from SouthTree between around 3 months and completion at 5 months or so. This made me worried that they lost my tapes in processing so I called Customer Service who was nice and helpful, but I shouldn't have had to do that step. The system should have explained the extra long wait time and been apologetic.
The quality of the transfer was less than ideal — I have better transfers that I made myself for some of the same tapes a few years earlier. And in addition, Southtree transferred and uploaded 1 hour minidisc tapes to 2 hours on the digital files — it was a burden to trim each reel individually to download and not take up too much disc space.
SouthTree might be the best service out there — I haven't tried the others. However, it could be a lot better with communication and transfer quality.
I only gave them 1 star because that was the lowest I could select! I sent in 19 tapes. I got 15 back. One CD was so bad I couldn't watch it, the even cut out most of the music that was on it. Other CD's were duplicates. They also had some video that was copied over other video. They were grainy, and poorly copied. Its not as if these were 20 years old or more. Some were only 5 years old. They also sent me back VHS tapes that they claimed were blank when I know for a fact that I did not send them blank tapes. I am assuming they erased them by mistake. I filed a dispute with my credit card company for the full amount. Please don't fall for their special offers of $5.00 a tape... its not worth a penny! I am now out $82.00 as well as video they erased! I sent them to the company via USPS and they got them in 3 days. They shipped them back to me via Fed ex which was then transferred to USPS, It took over a week for me to get them back once they were sent.

Rather than charging by length, which would make the process very costly for most tapes as they tend to be longer, our process is determined by the number of items you are sending to us. Across the board, whether it is 5 minutes or 5 hours the size of your order will be determined by how many items you would like to send us to be processed!
