Great work, Great communication

Southtree did an awesome job converting my sllides to a thumbdrive. They communicated often throughout the process. The only drawback was the very long process from order to delivery- but I was not in a hurry so it didn't bother me.

We had several old audio tapes from when our father was in the Army. He would make this tapes and send them to us kids so we could hear his voice. When we passed away we wanted to make them digital. They were old and we really did not want to ruin them by trying to set them up on the reel ourselves. We sent them to Southree and now we can hear his voice again. They were so professional during the entire process. You always knew where your product was and the process they were in. They made it so simple.

I have only used two services to copy my prints to a digital format, Peggy Bank and Southtree. THe digital images were good. Service took several weeks. This is a lot better than Peggy Bank. Peggy Bank has had my pictures for four months now. So, comapred to Peggy Bank, Southtree is great.

Update: I raised it to 2 1/2 stars & thank the company for the refund they eventually agreed to! Hopefully they start checking machine settings before running transfers.

STAY AWAY FROM SOUTHTREE! I wish I had read your comment (or taken the negative reviews seriously). I sent my last box of 8mm tapes to SOUTHTREE for a supposed 6-week turnaround + called when I did not get them back after 4 months (they did not reply to an email). They said they 'would fast track them for me' (fast! Ha!). They arrived another 3 weeks later. The download was just as r/VHS writes: compressed to smithereens, contrast pushed so high that all light areas are burnt out, all shades are black, blocky pixelation in some. All tapes were just stuffed in cases - none matched + I had to spend time to see if I even got all my tapes back + digitized.
When I asked for my money back they gave me the same run-around: I would need to test playback of my tapes and then send them all back - another 5 months? No way! I asked for a manager + have not heard since.
I had sent an earlier batch to Kodak - and thought THEY were bad, but not quite as bad as SOUTHTREE though I hear they may share facilities. A professional facility did a MUCH better job + now I know they were worth the money.

I attach a Southtree transfer still + same age still - good transfer by another company

Digiting audio tapes
April 3, 2021

I had several reel-to-reel audio tapes from the late 1960s or early 1970s that my father had made, including interviews with my grandfather who had been brought to this country from Bohemia in the 1890s. The results came back on a flash drive as I had ordered. It took about as much time as I expected from reading the web site. The audio was a little bit faint, but after all, those analog tapes were fifty years old. I managed to adjust the volume with Audacity. Based on my experience, I would certainly use Southtree again.

I sent three separate orders to Southtree to convert 8mm film to DVD. None of the orders were returned with menus on the DVD's as promised and they did not follow the order I requested. The quality was poor. The film was not cleaned properly and there was a lot of jitter which I did not expect to see. I would not recommend this company and will be looking for another to process the remainder of my film.

Sent Southtree over 30 VHS tapes... some of which had been sitting in storage for YEARS. Within 3 weeks, I had all but 1 on discs. The single tape that wasn't transposable, well, I got a credit for that one. I've been meaning to transfer all of these family memories for a very long time, but couldn't find the spar time to do so. Southtree did such a great job, I then sent them 100 old photographs for scanning. Again, A+++ job, Southtree!

Great Job

I sent them VHS tapes and a bunch of mini cassettes. They did a great job of converting them to DVD. They sent me numerous emails to update me throughout the process. I received my DVD's and everything I sent them without any problems. The process did take over a month, but they inform you of that on their website, so it shouldn't come as a surprise. I would prefer a company that takes their time and does a good job to a company that is quick, but doesn't do quality work. I've used another company, and compared to that other company, Southtree did a much better job.

Southtree deigitzed my family's 16mm movies
August 27, 2022

The movies are all over 50 years old and some over 60 years old and in poor condition. The digitized versions were as good as can be expected. It took 5 months from the time of the order to when I got the files. I wasn't sure they would get the job done but they did. For the price and for the quality of the product, I recommend them.

I had about 15 VHS tapes of family and very important dates that for years I wanted on DVD for safe keeping and for showing during family events as no one has an old VHS recorder. I got a Groupon for Southtree and decided it was time to make this happen. This was a great experience. I packaged up the tapes documenting the tapes I sent in the package, submitted to Southtree and sent a Twitter/Facebook alert to Southtree that the items were on their way. I received the tapes and DVD's returned in a safe package plus during the process they kept me up to date on the process. I received 6 emails from Southtree so I knew where my request was in the process. Everything was beautiful with this experience. Thank you.

I was shocked to see less than excellent reviews from Southtree! I purchased 2 groupons and sent our 8mm tapes to be converted. I was nervous putting them in the mail but shortly received an email they had been received and the process began! Within a couple of months I had received updates and the finished product was at my door. They were packaged nicely and the quality was excellent. We are so happy we will be able to enjoy our family memories for years to come. I couldn't be happier and highly recommend Southtree!

THE BEST. I could not be more pleased with the efficient, first class service I received throughout the entire process … from mailing in my VHS tapes to receiving excellent quality DVDs and digital files. All along the way I got frequent email notices about how my order was doing and when i would get my movies back.
I highly recommend Southtree to one and all!

I have had dozens of VHS and Super 8 cassette tapes digitalized at Southtree. Their work is good, thorough, and when they have a question - they ask it. When I have had a question, they get back to me quickly with an answer. I recommend this service.

I would give 0 if I could.

I had 2 separate orders from them, both sent beginning of May.

Slow, slow, slow. Just received this week. Would have been fine to wait if it was worth it.

EVERYTHING was wrong!

2 DVDs were blank. 1 of my original VHS was MISSING. 2 VHS were damaged by them. 2 things couldn't be converted even though they said on the website it could. Photos scanned were so BLURRY you couldn't even tell what they were. 1 DVD was of a family I have NO idea who they were.

DO NOT trust these people with your precious memories. TERRIBLE! Won't give refund, just "credit" on next order. YEAH RIGHT! Not sending them anything else.

Overall, sent over 12 items. Not ONE thing came out right and 3 VHS of memories were RUINED (And I feel bad for the random family's memories I got!)

I also wish ZERO stars was an option. AVOID SOUTHTREE. Maybe a few people got lucky and nothing was messed up, but for my family they lost a tape of a precious memory, and all the other tapes they sent back were messed up... and it's IMPOSSIBLE to get a straight story from anyone or to have customer service contact you back, and they never answer their phone. This is a horrible sham of a company: more like children with techie toys then a business. It is despicable that this "company" dupes you into sending them priceless and irreplaceable memories only to lose and damage them. Shame on you Southtree.com, especially shame on you for playing Christian music on your customer service line... I don't think Jesus would lie to people, take their money, lose their property, and then lie about it or never call the person back... HORRIBLE

A problem with original order was taken care of by one Anna Varek who took my case and walked it through to be right with no problems she was personable with me all the time while my order was shipped back to them free no less through the process called me talked to me e mailed me and returned properly done. I am sure all companies have problems at times but in my case through Anna my problems were solved I would use them again and soon shall to have more movies put on disk. THANKS ANNA! (Jack T)

I am glad I used them and have the memories they were able to get. I do feel like I wish they communicated better and that I should have to pay for the ones that they couldn't get - that were corrupted too much. But maybe that is just how it is.

On August 19,2023 I concluded my research on the available options to FINALLY digitize (2) two valuable VCR Video tapes that I have had since 1992. I chose Southtree and I am ecstatic about my choice. Throughout the process, I was kept apprised of the status via their website's VISUAL TIMELINE, and courteous professional emails from Syngyn. Brett, Zach, Rachel, Dee, and Dawn are the Southtree associates who completed my task of digitizing my memories to a Google Drive Download on September 7th, and my original tapes arrived safe and sound on my doorstep on September 9th. The quality is fantastic and better than I had expected. I know that issues happen, and things go wrong at times, but it is how you handle them and I am convinced that this team would handle any issues professionally and with empathy. Best in my book! Kudos to the team! Thank you!

They Lost my tapes
August 10, 2022

I sent my tapes to get them digitalized over a year and a half ago… I have not seen my tapes nor have they been able to locate them. I don't understand how this could happen. They said my tapes got mixed up with picture and they couldn't find my tapes just picture. No idea how this can happen since I put stickers with the order number on each tape and they acknowledged that it was recieved. I spoken to multiple reps and managers and they basically tell me nothing can be done. Had I known this could happen, I would've went with a competitors. Please don't use their service. Complete bullshyt……

Terrible
December 10, 2016

I sent my VHS tape with memories from my childhood (my only copy). They sent my order through FedEx and I never received it. I emailed to get help and they just said "sorry for the inconvenience there's nothing we can do, contact FedEx". I contacted FedEx and they said they sent it using a 3rd party, USPS. I never could track the package and now I'm out my money as well as my family films. I will never use this service again.
