I sent in some MiniDV tapes for transfer to usb drive. They took 4 months to do absolutely nothing with my media. After contacting them to cancel my order they magically had the order done in less than a day and shipped out. Once received the files that should be closer to 13gb each are only 700mb files, compressed to hell, and extremely poor quality. I mean unwatchable. Contacted them for a refund and they sent me a return label (no way am I sending them back my tapes). They said in order to process a refund they need me to transfer my files to digital and send them a side by side comparison of theirs to mine... A company that converts tapes to digital says they can only refund if I show them a side by side comparison of their trash copy and what it should actually look like... These guys are clueless and beyond incompetent.
When I finally, finally, got my transfers to DVD the quality was extremely poor. Dark, jumpy, ghost blur imagery, and fuzzy. Not sharp or crisp. Not worth the time it took to wait for their services.
The quality of the DVD transfer from tape was nothing to write home about. The cost was ridiculously high - even with a Groupon - which I feel was misleading. Had I not felt that Groupon was giving me a good deal, AND if I had a bit more patience, I could have had it done locally for much, much less money and received the same, if not better results. Go elsewhere and save yourself a LOT of money!
I was kept informed of each step in the process. Any questions were promptly answered. They cleaned slides that had been in storage for over thirty years
Im having 500 memories saved on a thumb drive each order. Im so pleased and can share with family. And the large boxes of photos are no longer taking up space.
I got a Groupon and sent about 250 35mm slides to Souththree for scanning. They did them quickly (in about 10 days), although it took a week go get them back from Chattanooga to north Alabama (normally one day via UPS ground or two days by mail). The quality was horrible! WAY too contrasty, color not even close, and obviously done with filthy equipment as there are specks all over the digital files (that are NOT on the slides) and one big dark spot in the same location on most of the slides that was obviously on their equipment. I will definitely NOT be using Southtree again!
I ordered the collection package through a Living Social deal. Received the box to send my tapes to be converted within tge two weeks as promosed. Put the labels on each movie as instructed and carefully packaged them in the box. Put the return label on the box and gave it to my post office. This was on December 14. The post office gave it to FedEx smartpost on December 16 and my package has disappeared. These were my grandfather's home movies from the 1960s that were kept in climate controlled safe condition for iver 50 years. Now they are gone.
My first review gave them one star, but after receiving two calls from a manager, it's clear they know they could have done better. This is all a consumer can really ask for in a company.
My late husband was a musician and when he passed away, I had all his music digitalized. Southtree has done soooooo much for me and did it to perfection. I can't tell you how pleased I am with ALL their work! They kept me posted all the way and they are soooooo polite. To send VHS tapes that contain precious home videos to a company requires a leap of faith, but I took it with SOUTHTREE. I got clear instructions on how to pack my old tapes (they even supply the box, the bar codes and the mailing label), e-mail updates on my order, and my thumbdrive delivered back with my original VHS tapes in the time-window they specified. Seamless experience! I plan to use them for old audio cassettes containing family interviews and to digitize my photos and of course more VHS transfers. 100% recommended!
I sent 5 audio cassettes in and within 4 weeks had CDs and thumb drive copies of conversations from family members made in the 1968-72 time frame. Voices from long ago now preserved forever.

Southtree is an Excellent and Professional resource! I'm so very happy that I found them! It has provided my family and I the ability to easily watch and share videos from the past. The process is all outlined, clean, and easy. The company has a great website that explains everything and "walks" you through the process. You just label and mail your tapes and mail them. Southtree expresses positive caring for your memories and updates you along the way. I received my orders in about 5-6 weeks each time. The DVDs are professionally made and look great! The DVDs I've received (about 20) are clear as can be considering the tapes I are 10+ years old. I had both VHS-C and 8mm tapes converted.The DVDs come labeled and as soon as you insert the disc, the table of contents comes up and you hit PLAY! That's it! I've had some DVDs also come in the Digital version which allowed me to share a video right to Facebook after using my Windows software. I am not tech savvy and I did it in 20 minutes, made my own little movie out of my home movies.
Definitely give Southtree a try! You won't be disappointed. The cost is very reasonable for the awesome quality. When you sign up for emails, you will receive notifications of their discounts which occur often!

Was a little pricey, but worth it for what they can do, IF done properly. Was impressed with the step by step emails I received, nice to get information through the process. Was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED when I received our items back. The video was put on to DVD, however there was no sound to it. The audio we had put on CD was horrible- it reminded us of the playback you get when watching ghost hunting shows- you don't hear anything other than a faint sound in the background.
We understand that they may not have been able to do any better, however then they shouldn't have processed the order and should have notified us. SO SAD that I don't have the audio in the video of my Dad or the audio of him playing guitar and singing.
Seriously not worth the amount we paid. We thought a "professional company" would have provided better service. I really feel like I was scammed :(
This was my second experience with Southtree and its amazing team of experts. I had old and some damaged VHS tapes that they repaired and the results were better than the originals!
If you want to lose your precious family memories and give them money, then go for it. Otherwise, use ANYONE else. They lose your stuff, then refuse to continue communicating with you and never offer a refund. They are a sham and should not be allowed to continue business. How could they possibly lose so many people's items?!?!? WTF.
Update 2/22: After I filed with the local BBB, I didn't hear anything for a while. Suddenly the date that Southtree/Legacybox was due to respond - they found my items. I have no idea where they were or how they lost them, but they were not with FedEx, they were at their facility. I received my original items back and the conversion files. I am so, so thankful to have my items back. Do not let up on them if they lose your items. They did a nice job converting the items, but the whole rigamarole of losing my items, denying knowledge of where they were, etc. I wouldn't trust them with my items in the future, but they did get my stuff back.
Southtree has done a great job of transferring my old VHS tapes to DVD's. The quality is excellent and I have been very pleased with the results. I highly recommend this company.
It was a present for my parents to have our childhood pictures from Peru saved and Southtree did just that. The pictures turned out great. Look forward to sending more pictures.
I used to be a professional photographer, mostly landscapes and wildflowers. I sent Southtree 100 slides, mostly Ektachrome Professional and some Kodachrome. From their website I expected files of at least 3MB each. What I got back was a few that are almost okay, many that are grossly underexposed, some that were over-exposed, at least one with messed up colors and not one was 3MB and some that were less than 1MB. This took about 6 weeks, which I expected but I expected them to be good and in general, they are awful. So now I have to have them done again, this time one at a time for $3.50 each.

My order took 2 months to arrive. One of the 3 VHS tapes of my 3 children's weddings was missing. No DVD for it or the thumb drive that I had paid for. No invoice! I so wish I had read other reviews before hand. I've been told by Southtree that they are looking for my lost tape, but they have so many others that they've lost of others... this is just so wrong! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!
