Customer service sounds like it's in a "boiler room". You can't understand what they're saying because of the noise in the background. They never fix your problem. Terrible service!
Yes I was able to increase my credit score, However once I finished without a missed payment I got offers from other credit card companies for unsecured lines of credit I closed my account and wanted my $600 back it took weeks to get and once I closed my account they decimated my credit score I went from a score of 744 to 623 in less then two weeks with zero issues against my credit no late payments no outstanding bills. Don't know how they did it but it was all them, I got a $10,000 credit limit on one card and have three others with similar amounts, don't do it to yourself there are other ways to better your credit try those and you won't be as disappointed as I was with SELF.INC
Several months they did not pull the money out of the acct automatically and charged me a late fee then reported to the credit agencies. Credit scores drop dramatically! Rip off! I said it!
Do not open the credit builder account if your score is above 670, it will just lower a lot your credit score. I had it on 721 and went down to 698. :(
I was satisfied with Self, I did two 12 month terms. They now only offer 24 month terms and that's just way too long for a payout. I imagine their going to lose alot of customers myself included.
If you read everything and pay attention, it works great. Had them since 2019 and have had the best service ever and haven't even needed to call them about anything- they actually called ME over what was a fraudulent charge on my account and helped me clear it and canceled the card for me. They gave me a limit increase on my credit builder account 3 times, then moved me to an unsecured credit account with a reasonable limit. It did bring my score down initially but any new account will do that to you. As for the long payouts, I received my check around 6-8 business days after the date of the end period (they snail mail it UNLESS you go to your account and select otherwise), and all the money was accounted for. These negative reviews sound like a bunch of people who thought it was a magic credit wand that works over night. It took about 8 months but all in all I'd say I gained about 80 points to my score with them, and it just continues the longer I've used them. Never had an issue with them. Put your payment on auto withdrawal, and be mindful of your limits and payout method selection. Great company, they saved my credit.
I Got Self With A 646 Credit Score With Credit Karma They Took My Score Down 37 Points When I First Opened It And I Opened It In August But Only Receive 1 Point Even When I Pay On Time And Even Double Payments
Whoever will file a lawsuit count me in! Closed account September 2022 and STILL being charged interest even now. Almost $120 in LATE FEES FOR A CLOSED ACCOUNT. Do not use this company for anything! Use Chime instead.
Before you share your banking info and give a 3rd party access to your banking and personal info, be aware that these kinds of apps do NOTHING for you that you can't do yourself. What makes your credit score bad is credit behavior. Thus, the reverse is true. Better behavior will result in your scores going up. If you have negative information on your report that is not accurate, YOU can write a letter (send it certified) to each credit bureau and request it be removed. If you have valid information that is bad, well, you did that and you can undo it. Don't buy stuff if you can't afford it. Pay your credit cards down to a point where you are using less than 10% of your credit and you will see improvement. These apps don't raise your score. YOU raise your score. Apply discipline to your spending habits and your score will go up without an app. Just remember that the more people that have access to your info, the higher the likelihood that there can be a breach and your info gets stolen. Possibly enough info for someone to steal your identity.
ALL of these "apps" that are advertising so heavily are nothing more than debt consolidation loans. They have a non refundable setup fee, they take your monthly payments and invest it in short term investments, and when your loan is repaid they keep the proceed from those investments as a "payoff fee".
I used Self Credit Builder to rebuild my credit rating, but my income was impacted by COVID, and I could not make the monthly payments causing my account to close and I now have a late mark reporting to the Bureaus. If your helping consumers to build credit, why would you report anything negative? I'm staying away from Self Credit Builder!
At the end when you want to stop their no-result credit fix, they try to charge you even more money to cancel...
I'm good.
I'll work with the credit gurus.

NIT GOOD. THEY PROMISE A BETTER CREDIT RATING BUT, IF YOU NEED TO CASH OUT EARLY, OMG, DON'T EXPECT MUCH OF YOUR MONEY BACK! THEY FEE YOU TO BIG TIME! THEN THEY TAKE WEEKS TO GIVE WHAT LITTLE IS LEFT BACK TO YOU!
What I didn't like about self is someone ordered a credit card in my name. I tried calling them couldn't get through. And it just made me so upset I just said forget it.
Try declining their services and closing your account, it's a process any legitimate company should easily do...sic of these predators
Had several credit builder loans and security deposit of 1275. Never once was I late except 1 day and I paid extra but because I did not pay 42 dollars and paid 44 would not increase my limit. Closed both accounts. Does not really ever get your credit up if you have a bankruptcy or any unpaid bills at all. My bankruptcy is 2 months away from ten years and got hit with a 2k hospital bill that I never received until on my credit. Have been paying on it for two years. Highest my credit raised was 639 and of course 640 is the magic number. I have multiple crap credit cards with very high interest that I have never been late on. Self is a scam and although others may have God experience with them, mine was horrible after three or four years. Told them to FO and close my accounts and send me my money back. Very bad customer service. The whole unsecured raise limit is bull because I paid bill in full every month for two years of and be paid in full four credit builder loans. Was a big waste because this bank and all the banksthey deal with carry no weight with credit bureaus obviously.
I Opened my Credit Builder account in Feb 2021 And Was offered A Self Visa Credit Card Back By My Funds In My Credit Builder Account In July 2021 - Was Charged $25 without being told. This relationship was created to help me recover from the damages of extreme Identity theft. So I had to unlocked/unfreezed my credit File to open the accounts. But in September 2022 I was charged $25 again for the Visa card and then it was close without notice on October 01 2022. At this time there was a credit balance (Over payment) on my account of $87.02 because I had paid my account in full and then did a return of the purchase I made a few weeks earlier. So my credit limit at the time was $1775 + $87.02(credit) Which $1500( was my money being held from my credit builder account & $275 extra credit extended because of the good relationship. But my account was close for not reason and they are holding on to my $1500 deposit + $87.02 (Credit balance) + $25( Fee they charge to renew the card even though they cancelled/closed it). This seems like a pattern they are defrauding the very people the claim to be in business to help. It have been almost 2 months and no supervisor or manger has respond to my numberless attempts and now one care to help when you call them. They are closing people account and holding onto people hard earned money without any explanation.
I want to thank self for making it so easy to improve your credit rating and save money at the same time. I would definitely recommend self to my family and friends.
In working for one of the Big Four' banks I am a firm believer in utilizing and taking advantage of the much improved and highly advanced technology in today's era. In regards to using the Self. Mobile app: this entire process took less than 10 minutes. Within those 10 minutes I was able to compete the account opening in its entirety. The easy-to-navigate tools through the Self. Mobile app helped me to: create my account, designate a beneficiary, create my own profile with my personal information (I. E. Name, address, phone number), secured link-up to my personal Mobile Bank account, selection of my preferred payment method with the AutoPay option enabled and lastly I even had access the the official account opening documentsagain, I did all of this in less than 10 minutes! I was left with peace of mind in knowing I didn't have to worry from here! I give Self. Two thumbs up with an A+ rating! (P.S. The mobile app is amazingthe blue & orange colors used throughout the app are very appealing!)
When I first opened my self account we did so because we wanted to buy a home with my daughter. Now we have just bought our first home together for the grandkids thanks in a large part to self :)
Parts are cheaper never got the wrong parts two separate times have never gotten credit on core charge returns I will never order anything that has a core charge return again
Answer: Beware of the fees. It is all going to them plus they will start hitting you with annual fees which they refuse to refund even when you close your account within that month. Scam and sketchy. Other banks will do the same for way less money and fees.
Answer: Yes I did it myself, just this year. I left my money in my account and started over
