BEWARE: DO NOT USE SELF TO HELP YOUR CREDIT!

I'm going to share my experience because this is getting out of hand. I signed up for Self the credit builder program a few months back. I've NEVER missed a payment. I've always made my $25 payments each month. Out of the blue; I started receiving $15 late fees. Then on 12/24 & 12/28 they started charging my bank $15 late fees and claiming I was manually making the payments. This is false. They refuse to refund me to which I had to file a claim to my bank account. I removed my bank account and shut off auto payment after the first attempt. Last week they tried to make an attempt to pull a $15 payment again. Now, I still have the auto payment option turned off. My account is reflecting its past due which it shouldn't even reflect this and I now owe a lot in a payment to catch up my account which I shouldn't have to pay.

I've even attempted to speak to someone via chat after the two December payments occurred and speaking to someone over the phone was a $#*! show. They submitted a request for someone in the "dispute" department to contact me via email about this situation and that was a lost cause. They won't help resolve the issue.

I plan to do what I can to resolve this, get the money I'm paying this "loan" to receive and NEVER use SELF AGAIN!

Self is the worst! Had this a acct for a few years. Let them convince me into getting the self credit card. Which they take ur own money that you save up and add to credit card. And after a year when ur saving is done you don't get ur money back. They don't even put ur full saving on ur credit card and they slso start charging you high interest rate on the self credit card that's ur own money you save up on. Credit card balance wound up bring way more then it saving that you never get back! Don't do it trust me self is a compete rip off! They pitch that craptgst they out here to help you build ur credit but they out here doing more damage to it! A waste of time and money!

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! I had a friend set up this account to "help" build credit. I was unaware of the original set up and only provided the information after finding the issue. It appears they used a card that expired at the end of Feb 2023, which means the auto payment failed. No notification was provided of a failed payment, or a past due balance. If proper notification had been provided at the time of the failed payment, the issue could have been corrected immediately. Self Inc reported to all 3 bureaus that I had a 30 days past due late payment. Keep in mind that you don't actually owe money. No loan is taken. This is your own money that you are storing in an account so they basically have access to a "free loan" of your money. I'm reading multiple complaints of people who still have not received their payout of over $3,000.00. Make no mistake. This company is collecting your money and then using that money as an "interest free loan", yet are reporting you to the Credit Bureau for a late payment to YOURSELF. This is a problem. Over $60.00 was paid into this service, yet only $29.00 was eligible for payout. Find another way to build your credit. This is not it!

When I joined Self my credit score was a 480, I joined self under the 24 month loan program and my credit score shot up to 680 allowing me to purchase a home. If it wasn't for Self Lender I would've still been stuck in the 400s.

Finish my 12 months term paying $48 dollars a month they only pay me $89 dollars and my credit score same as last year when started on this program… I won't do it for another term…

I joined this company in 2019. Paid perfectly for 12 months as agreed and the account was closed. 2 years later they are hitting my credit saying there was $1.90 in interest and that now I'm $70 behind even though I had a zero balance at time of closure. I have all the documents proving this fact! They have killed my credit and refuse to correct it. I'm filing with the BBB. DO NOT SIGN WITH THEM. THEY WILL STEAL FROM YOU AND IF YOU DONT PAY THEY DESTROY YOUR CREDIT!

At first, this seemed like a good plan and a good company. My credit score did improve significantly, *when* I financed the loan. Accepting the Visa Secure card just gave me headaches. Yes, I used the card, and paid in full each month. I was given a higher available credit. Yes, I used it. When I submitted a payment for the full amount owed, they would not process it as "future" payments would not be accepted. I had an automatic payment set for $48 a month, all went well with no delay on that. After I tried to submit payments unsuccessfully, I would get the email that my utilization was above 30%. No other credit card has ever not accepted a payment anytime during any month AND they usually have 24/7 customer service live; at least in my experience. This company tries to come off as Robin Hood, but, then, I hate to be cynical, they are in the same bed with predatory lenders - get folks when they are down. They are part of the cyclical industry. No one wants to go through difficult times financially. For those of us who want to take responsibility and overcome whatever life threw in their way, this company is out to exploit us. I am a teacher and a single mom. I absolutely need my credit score up to protect my children and provide for them when I need to be approved for a lease, mortgage, or car loan. With Self, I saw my score go up 150 points, then (surprise surprise) drop 30 and stay stagnant.

Lord where do I begin in August 2020 about a charger I don't make as of Today Feb. 2021 they are still reporting me over limit. I have called, email etc. with No help I REALLY NEED TO CLOSE THIS ACCOUNT. Please Please don't use them drop 10 points a month because of them.

Hi been using self app for 18 months and I have to credit cards not with self they are open sky and first premier i recommend these cards no hard pull but anyway I made a cd loan 1800 with self app and paid it off 5 months early and its been 10 days trying to get my payout because my girlfriend paid the remaining balance and now they are holding my check send all the info they asked for and then they ask for more so now I must file a civil suit just to get my money so I say very LOUD DONT USE THIS APP PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM SELF APP

Self fraudulently shut my account down saying they couldn't verify my bank account however I submitted everything they asked for. No one could explain why. Smh I feel scammed and they never returned my money.

Self Inc, Is a Bad Business on the Inside that looks good on the outside. I'm on the outside looking into my past bad Bad and Stressful ‍ Experiences with Self Inc holding my Money. They love holding the Money Bag because it Benefits them and their Business but they will never again get the chance or opportunity to hold my money for 2 months again. I finally got my money over two months period waiting for my money. I did eventually get my money because I called them every and I filed against them with 4 Consumer Organizations Like the BBB

I have been a SELF customer for 18 months. I have always paid my bills on time and utilized the VISA credit card they gave me and paid it off monthly. I then find out 2 months before the close of my final deposits they "hold in a CD account" they have shut down my credit card and closed my account. The only reason given is "unable to verify customer information!" This is garbage as I now have over $700 in their CD and the representative said she doesn't have any information as to when they will return my money.
I STRONGLY ADVISE anyone looking into using SELF inc to RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION.

After successfully paying off my credit-builder account they used some of the excess funds to pay a balance off that I owed on the credit card and closed the CC and kept the $350 secure deposit! It clearly states on the agreement that after two billing cycles you should receive a check for the security deposit but it is just lies! DO NOT TRUST THEM!

I had auto pay set up, Now that I completed the 18 months term, it says I saved $0. So no $ back... Insane!
And the credit card keeping my $ hostage. Almost $900.

When it came time to cash our my account they disappeared. Noone answers the helpline or help emails. They stole the money in my account instead of paying me out.

Never heard of this company yet scammers easily used my checking account to pay their bill yet when I call they refuse to do anything about it because they say "well if you don't have an account with us I can't look it up" which is bogus. They can, they just don't care and looking at other reviews on here I'm not the only one! Will report to BBB now but doubt that's going to help either. This review wants me to add "proof of purchase"... funny how do I do that if I DIDN'T EVEN PURCHASE THIS CARD TO BEGIN WITH?!

Self financial closed my credit card, with a $35 balance... $35 As they will undoubtedly try to tell you in their response. They DID send me automated emails. However, they disabled my account rendering me unable to login. My credit has crept from 30 to 60 to 90 to 120 days late on $35; without them reaching out in my attempts to fix the LOGIN issue so I may pay. I have reached out to customer service, but as they state "Our call and email support response times are very delayed." which means they do not respond. Their "chat" feature is outsourced garbage, and they have no ability to help. As you can see by the other complaints against them, there is potentially a class action lawsuit being formed against them for their practices of charging customers and closing accounts. If you read about them, this isn't new. And it could happen to you. I have requested to pay the $35... yes, $35 charge - but their inability to handle customer emails/calls/chats has some people suspiscious about what is actually going on with the operations/finances of this company. I would NOT put any trust in this company. I would not use their services. It didn't even help my credit.
