I do not own scratch but its great and that is all i am going to type in this whole review so ya bye.
Sooo a Numberblocks fan days ago commented on my profile ASKING for my age. (They broke the Scratch Community Guidelines) And said they were 9. They probably got blocked for asking AND sharing personal info. I don't like how people read and BROKE the Community Guidelines. Scratch blocks/bans exist y'know... (btw i used they/them since i don't know the gender)
Scratch.Mit.Edu is a coding program for kids, but adults of any age may use it. It is free, has no ads and uses educational block coding. Not to mention, it is created by the MIT media lab, one of the best colleges in the USA, scratch has built in support and anti-inappropriate usage built in. Scratch allows any user to remix others projects with credit given, and create music, animations, games, and so much more! Scratch has partnered with Amazon, Lego, and other well known brands and services to create bonus, free to access blocks that have special features, like bluetooth, text to speech, and more! Scratch should be #1 in the whole world of educational games, not #70. I hope that the 97 MILLION scratch users who love it enough to make an account weren't wrong.
I was ArtistMatt on scratch, I had a few games with over 100,000 views. Guess what? I was rude to someone because their project was TRASH, I told them this and they got me a 3 day ban. Next, I told some loser I was arguing with to shut up or I bot you. This loser told a few people that I blackmailed him. Brat. Scratch banned me for spamming on my own game without any context finally.
This website is the worst. I've been on this website for more than 2 years, and never have I never seen such horrible admins in this website. There's people bullying others on the website, not "agreeing" with the rules and it's just toxic. I got banned a few days ago for defending myself from a Bully on the website, and instead of them banning the other person they decided to ban me for defending myself. Not only that, but there's death threats being thrown around the website from other users and nobody is doing anything to stop it. My friends wanted to use scratch, but I told them not to for this reason. This is one of the worst websites I've ever been on and it's the Last.
Well, to start off with, the scratch community is quite nice. At least, most of them. Normally, you would talk to (Toxic) Pre-teens or little kids, the better part, however, is that there are still adults like Griffpatch and the Scratch Team and they actually reply to your comments, they can instruct you and also answer your questions that are not in the FaQ section! Next, we have the coding system. It's a fairly simple system build upon Javascript and HTML5 in replacement to Squeak and Adobe Flash Player. Easy to code and also easy to use. There are some flaws between here and there but keep in mind that this is a children's website, there are quite a few limitations for simplicity and not to look overwhelming for kids. There are also many things to do there, like Game Jams, DMCEs, MAPs, and Collabs. The scratch website has a strong moderation system, for both comments and for projects, making sure it's kid-friendly. If you decide to make an account, I'm afraid that you wouldn't get very popular, and may experience burnout. Much of the community page is littered with generic games, but I can't do anything to change that. Personally, scratch is a great place, your kids might enjoy scratch summer camp, doing block coding, making your own sprites, maybe even animating. Maybe scratch will be a better place in a few years, who knows? Scratch on!
Ps: thank you ST for giving me the opportunity to be an SDS helper.
You can get an account block for saying the word "CRINGE".
Does that make any sense? Saying the word "CRINGE"? That gets you a PERMANENT BLOCK?
And it was just because I didn't like someone remixing projects just to get views on their projects, since they didn't edit any of their projects. B. T. W: I also said "I will report you if you don't leave" because the same guy thought it would be funny to get 18 ALT ACCOUNTS AND SPAM MY PROFILE. Yeah, that guy's still up and going on Scratch. And I'm blocked because I just said cringe.
And don't even TRY making a new account, even if it's for your school projects, they have NO REMORSE and WILL BLOCK THAT ONE TOO. They have NO EMPATHY, NO COMPASSION, NO REASONING, and most importantly... NO TIME TO HEAR ANYTHING! They will not respond to account appeals, no matter if it's an entire essay plus a few pictures proving your worthiness, you will be blocked if they simply see you interacting with a troll. They won't ban the troll ever by the way, that's never the case. They only ban the victim.
You're better off playing BYOB or uploading games on GameJolt, or using the offline editor and sharing projects on other websites... Because SCRATCH, even though seemingly in "good graces" by school systems, is NOT the way to go.
By the way, they don't even have a user block option. What a site! No wonder there's so many trolls :D
I love this Scratch to do many Projects. And it is very interesting. But when we keep the coding as a conversation, if the person speaks with their mouth, it would be pretty Good!
I don't recommend scratch at all. The moderation team suck, and the community is really toxic. There are bullies everywhere, and the scratch team (ST) don't do anything about it. The moderators can't be bothered to check messages for inappropriate comments, so they instead use a crappy filterbot which always detects the wrong things. (If you don't know, if the filterbot detects something wrong with your message you get a comment pause, where you can't comment for a certain period of time.) So, because of that, many people can't comment for long periods of time for saying something that doesn't even offend or hurt anyone. You also get banned for stupid reasons (see picture 2). In my case, I got banned for mentioning self harm and suicide and talking bad about scratchers. Firstly, I was talking bad about someone irl who DOESN'T EVEN HAVE SCRATCH and I got banned. Secondly, about the self harm and suicide, I was saying I HOPED SOMEONE DIDN'T suicide, and I was CHEERING UP SOMEONE WHO REGRETTED self harming! Also, Scratch kept banning Christians (for being christian), and then SAY THEY RESPECT ALL RELIGIONS! Look at first pic it means I cant ever go back on scratch! 1 STAR!
Pros:
-The coding is the best thing about, it started the block coding type of coding, which that is good;)
-Some projects are actually good and even if some are overrated trash animators, There animations are sometimes really really well done.
Cons:
-The scratch team can be a little crazy with there ban reason, THEY CAN BAN YOU BECAUSE OF SOMETHING ON THE FORUMS! But there's no trouble there.
-they banned scratchers because of the crummy scratchers wiki, photos are the pros and cons!
Thanks!
I love the app i can play games a more it is so cool you can play gacha life there it so cool just look up scratch gacha life or gacha life scratch.
So, the good and bad.
The good: the code is easy to understand and MOST of the community is nice. Good for beginning coders.
Now the BAD. There are constantly those haters/copiers of the community or hate on your projects and profile bc they are jealous and copy your projects with no credit. Not to mention you can get muted for saying 'skype' or commenting on your own project, 'I took these screenshots on the projector so the quality is bad'. Still, mean comments go through. So, basically, scratch is used as a social media and it is good in that sense. I use it as a social media to talk during covid. BUT if you are not comfortable with a social media then don't go on.
First the bad way: who would ban a account thats close to 100 followers? And why would they ban someone who did nothing (IP ban 3rd day) what the! He ST sucks its the worst ST ever they need to replace them
Good way: i got lot of followers and it a good community and some of my friends have it too
I have had an account for nearly three years now and I loved the website. But recently it turned into a political dumpster fire! The ST spends all their time blocking Christians and conservatives and they let people who are ped0ph! Ler$ stay on along with people who curse (I. E. *******@mn and h3!) but they never get banned! I was banned because someone asked me my thoughts on if I think trans females should be allowed in cis female sports, and I said no because they would have a biological advantage. Then later BOOM one week IP ban! What's irritating is that my comment that got my perma banned was actually just me talking about the fact that in South Korea it's much more common to get plastic surgery, I never meant to offend people as I love Korea and I just thought it was cool that their plastic surgery actually works. I spent a long time writing an appeal and they didn't even read it! Now I am permanently banned!;-; the st needs a dose of reality since they think that telling kids to support BLM and LGBTQ is not political but kids saying they are Christian is! (I have nothing wrong with LGBTQ people, my best friend on there was one, I'm just saying that it's being hypocritical) Anyways please spread the message that I was banned. Also my first ban was literally just because I was trying to say Discord (I was talking about MLP not the app)
I love scratch since you can make, remix, share and lots more on it, including commenting and replying! Only thing is... Too many bullies and people are destroying this lovely site, and innocent people are being banned for no reason at all. Though, overall, it is the best site EVER. Btw follow me *******@TheManOfTheMan10 :) Usually I find coding with languages hard like C+++, Jave, Python... Scratch is the BEST AND EASIEST CODING LANGUAGE. Go now!
scratch.mit.edu GO MAKE YOUR ACCOUNT NOW. Until then, Scratch On!
By the way, I love coding in any language =-)
I was just scrolling through my friends profile Glimmerbury. When all of a sudden I click on one of her friends profiles and it tells me my network was banned. I've sent several messages through their contact us and email over 10 WEEKS AGO AND STILL NO RESPONSE! I would not recommend this site.
Scratch is a good website for learning how to code. However, the website is so slow and it usually takes minutes to pull up my project.
Answer: It's actually pretty easy. First of all, some people might be very mean to you and mass-report you (That's how I got banned) and then Scratch Team sees this. They don't take time to look at your history, they only see the mass-reporting problems. So then they ban you. Second of all, Scratch Team is super sensitive and kind of overprotective about their already decaying community. So whenever they see something that might harm people in a mental way or something that is "disturbing" to others, they'd ban you.
Answer: When it comes to server issues, Scratch is really trying it's best to keep up with it's servers, but there's way too many comments in their database, Scratch needs funding to resolve these issues to keep running.
Answer: Scratch's servers are trying to keep up, but they run with way too much information in their database. This could be fixed by getting rid of old data (not recommended) or rolling out the solutions they've done much to the hatred of users... Also not a good answer. Scratch just needs a lot more funding to solve this issue, so long answer short; not enough funding, and too much information in too small a database, leading to that in the servers.
Answer: It can vary. Sometimes it can take only one. Other times it can take more. It's not always good to mass report, though. It's more likely to be taken down if it actually breaks the guidelines.
Answer: Here's my list: If you got banned on the website ONCE, and you contact Scratch Team, you will MOST LIKELY get your account back if you agree to be nice again on the website. If you got banned on the website TWICE, and you contact Scratch Team, it's 50/50. It's a mix between MOST LIKELY and HIGHLY UNLIKELY to get your account back. If you got your IP Address banned, your siblings (If you have any) will get their accounts banned because they use your IP Address, and the chances of you getting you account back is BORDERLINE IMPOSSIBLE. You can't contact Scratch Team any way, whether using their contact email or just asking Scratch Team. You can't even comment on their Youtube Channel, because they disable comments on their videos. And, like getting your account back, contacting them is BORDERLINE IMPOSSIBLE. All this information was backed up by research. I've been on Scratch for 2 years, and was falsely banned, not once, not twice, but FOUR times! And I hate it.
Answer: Yup! You can make anything on scratch. Just make sure it is okay for younger children to see.
