Well, to start off with, the scratch community is quite nice. At least, most of them. Normally, you would talk to (Toxic) Pre-teens or little kids, the better part, however, is that there are still adults like Griffpatch and the Scratch Team and they actually reply to your comments, they can instruct you and also answer your questions that are not in the FaQ section! Next, we have the coding system. It's a fairly simple system build upon Javascript and HTML5 in replacement to Squeak and Adobe Flash Player. Easy to code and also easy to use. There are some flaws between here and there but keep in mind that this is a children's website, there are quite a few limitations for simplicity and not to look overwhelming for kids. There are also many things to do there, like Game Jams, DMCEs, MAPs, and Collabs. The scratch website has a strong moderation system, for both comments and for projects, making sure it's kid-friendly. If you decide to make an account, I'm afraid that you wouldn't get very popular, and may experience burnout. Much of the community page is littered with generic games, but I can't do anything to change that. Personally, scratch is a great place, your kids might enjoy scratch summer camp, doing block coding, making your own sprites, maybe even animating. Maybe scratch will be a better place in a few years, who knows? Scratch on!
Ps: thank you ST for giving me the opportunity to be an SDS helper.
