After months of searching for an ECU (computer) for my 1983 Datsun 280 ZX, I thought my luck changed when RockAuto had one. However, I "plugged" it in and nothing happened, no signs of life. The failed attempt wasn't what prompted me to write this response. What did?
I couldn't return the part for my money back ($300 plus) and was unable to speak with any staff. Clearly, the part was inoperable but no accountability from RockAuto. I tried to use the online return but the ECU was "not eligible " for return.
To salvage something from the debacle, I returned for the core fee minus shipping $52.
Never again will I buy from this company.
There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING "good" or "positive" about this company. They are nothing but cheating, lying scammers and if you choose to ignore the warnings of previous customers ( victims), you will soon realize how foolish you were when you get ripped off too. Yes, their prices are enticing but, in the end, you would get more value for your money by flushing it down the toilet than doing business with RockAuto.
IF you get a part at all ( after paying for it), it will either be the wrong part for your vehicle ( even though their catalog listed it as the correct part) or, will be something completely different than what you ordered or, will be broken / damaged / incomplete / visibly used. When you try to return it, you will realize that there is NO WAY TO CONTACT THESE SCAMMERS ( just as you would expect to have no communication with scammers), you will have to pay return shipping and, IF you get a refund at all, it will be minus the original shipping cost as well.
I could detail how I got scammed out of $230 for trying to buy a radiator for my truck and then being forced to pay to ship the damaged part back and get no refund but it's more important to try to prevent you from making the same mistake. Spend a little more with a REPUTABLE retailer or website that you can communicate with if there is a problem and get a refund. In other words, the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of RockAuto.
While Rock Auto does offer a wide variety of parts at good prices their customer service is non existent. Recently FED EX delivered my order to somewhere other then my address. Rock Auto has no customer service at all and the only way I resolved the issue was to dispute the charge which my cad company did and then Rock Auto responded. Since such things happen all the time I will not be buying anything from them again since getting any resolution from them is virtually impossible since they have no contact number or email which can be accessed in real time.
In summary there may be companies with worse customer service but I have not encountered them in the many years I have been purchasing items over the net.
Avoid them at all costs if you anticipate having any problems with an order..
Ordered 2 door handles from Rock Auto. They first said both were in stock. Within minutes Of ordering and handing my money over, I am notified that they made a mistake only 1 of my items is available unless I want to pay more from a different supplier. So I cancel my order and request a refund. They issue me a credit with them instead of returning my money so I could buy the part elsewhere they kept my money. I WILL NEVER GIVE THEM BUSINESS EVER AGAIN! WHAT A TOTAL RIP OFF,!
RockAuto a few years ago used to be a good place. The interface is still nice. They have tons of different parts to choose from.
But recently their descriptions became not truthful and their matching capabilities became far from perfect. In addition they ship from multiple storages, so the shipping becomes quite expensive.

In one case I ordered the oil filters, they claimed they should fit my car, but they didn't. So I ended up selling them on craigslist.
Today I received a 3 cabin filters, RockAuto in the description claimed they are charcoal filers (we have fires here), but actually these filters are cheap Chinese "you can see through the filter" type ones.
Of cause the return is not free, so I am sending it back just because I don't want to deal with it here. Again, I lost the money.

I purchased front brake rotors in late 2021 and they are warped already! I have tried several times to contact rock auto about the 2-year warranty and cannot find anyway to contact them to get warranty rotors, this company shout not be able to sell anything,
I ordered an emissions part for my car. Immediately upon receipt of confirmation, I noticed that RockAuto had cut off part of my billing address (numerical digits). They bill upon preparing for shipment. I tried to correct the error on the website, but the site would not allow for a change of data. Since I knew the payment would not go through due to the incorrect address and this would delay shipment, I looked for live help. There is none available... RockAuto does not use any live operators, nor do they have any on-line help or any email system or message system available. I cannot delay my auto repair process. So as a result I had to cancel my order, and will order through another auto parts company.
Took forever to get my items. Recieved the wrong parts, so i sent it back. They said there was signs of dog hair in the package so the item was used (though clearly unused). Rock auto is a unreliable company and they WILL scam you if they are given the opportunity

I've bought several parts from this place and they were bad. Once they are put on a car... no returns. Bad struts, control arm and ball joint. Do not buy anything from them.
Just received and installed a new starter motor for my 95 Ranger. Picked the Bosch & installation was a breeze. Starter fires my engine up immediately and is quality built. Shipping was fine, zero issues. Very pleased with my purchase. Dig the lifetime Bosch warranty too- well worth the money. Would give it more stars if I could.

In August 2021 we purchased an intake manifold from Rock Auto for a 2008 Ford F150. Upon installation it was discovered there was a defective part of the manifold which caused a part of the manifold that was built onto it to blow off causing antifreeze to go everywhere.
Rock Auto would not offer a refund and only offered a replacement. We didn't want a replacement after seeing how this manifold was manufactured because we didn't want to risk the same thing happening. Unfortunately, Rock Auto said we could only get a replace of the same poor quality manifold.
Additionally, we ended up paying for 2 manifolds to be installed. Rock Auto also made us pay return shipping on the defective manifold.
If I could leave 0 stars I would, avoid the headache of this company, got express shipping it's been delayed for 2 weeks, I can't get a refund for another 2 weeks and if the rare chance it does come before then I'm going to have to spend more money to return it because I was forced to go get the parts elsewhere

RA will never admit they are wrong and sent the wrong part. They always try to make look like it is your fault that you received the wrong part. This has happened many times and they just keep arguing. The best one can do is pay the discounted shipping return cost and NEVER buy here again. If Amazon acted this way they would be out of business. Rock Auto told me I am wrong and that this measurement is indeed 4.125 inches. They simply will not listen to reason, proof, or logic.

Customer service number doesn't exist. Their online algorithm question answering system sucks. If you email customer service they return your email once. And if they actually answer your question is a whole nother situation. They will lie so they don't have to actually help you. Part was $53.00 after I returned it because the est. Shipping date was wrong I got $16.00 back I had to pay restocking, return shipping. I didn't open it. They misquoted shipping arrival by a week.
Once again, I received my Rock Auto order, box busted all to $#*!, parts exposed, typical FedEx bull$#*!.
