Purchased my system around August 2022. The beginning of September I noticed the doorbell camera was getting hot (it was hardwired to the house). I was getting readings of 145 degrees with my thermal thermometer and recalled the problems phones were having with fires in the past. I called the tech who came out and determined it was defective. He said they would mail me a new one, that he didn't have one in his truck. Sept 24th after not receiving anything I tried calling customer service. They said that one would be sent. On 11/6 I called again and they said one would be sent within 24-78 hours. 11/21 I called again and was told I would receive it camera within 2-3 days. With a max of days. 12-1 called again (this is when it really went downhill). Called again asked to speak to a supervisor as in the past I was not getting anywhere. Waited over a half hour to speak to Carmella. Who said they had no record of us ordering a doorbell camera, and she needed the serial number off the old one to go any further. I explained the the tech took it with him as he had never seen this problem before. Well from this point on I started to get a lecture on how I should not have let him take the camera and I yes I had to call the installer and company to find out where they took the camera. This is after 4 months of back and fourth phone calls and they will not look into it. Needless to say I canceled my contract will bite the bullet on all of the products I purchased and go with another company. One more comment whenever I would call I would be put on hold for a while while they contacted shipping. They would do this 3 to 4 times than come back and say the item will be be shipped soon...what a bunch of bologna... Please don't consider ring, this has been a nightmare

My wife & I just recently purchased two ring 2 devices, solar chargers and the ring chime. The ring on our front door works... That's about all I can say nice about it. Now for the beef of the matter. It picks up leaves blowing, cars driving by no matter what sensitivity setting we set it on and perimeters. So we turned on the "People only" mode. LMBO... Very little warning if at all. And if it does the person is long gone. Lucky if it even records. Sadly, Its either one extreme or the other. Now for the 2nd ring for the back door. Charges, However the app says it isn't charged when the device is. There are supposed to be a red & green light showing charge, again nothing... I've tried numerous times to reconnect to the WIFI with little to no success and when it does it say battery is dead. Meanwhile the unit is flashing the code "update" in which it never does because the app says it has 0% charge however the unit is flash full blue circle 1 second on, then one second off. Solar charger is iffy. Cloudy days of course its useless and then where you place the device. As for our charging issue, There is NOTHING in Ring troubleshooting to address our charging issue. Just "be sure you have properly plugged in the charger device". Now for the Ring Chime review, The ring Chime is said to be a extended WIFI spot for the devices, Think again... A 9v transistor walkie talky with a coat hanger for an antenna has better range. (Not that I tested it in that manner) Then after some research it says the ring batteries will freeze starting at 32* and below and will be useless even if it is wired into your door bells wiring due to the batteries freezing. So they say to bring in you're ring device to "warm it up" with temp's 32* and below. So... Winter time in cold climates its deemed useless? IMHO, Not worth the money nor the time.

IT WORKS! IT REALLY DOES! Rings excellent Neighbor Advocate and 2nd. Level systems technician were able to get my Ring system to perform the way it is portrayed on T. V. that is: rapid visual access and audio response to whoever or whatever triggered it (within about 4 or 5 seconds of the alert). It took the extra effort from Rings 2nd. Level tech. Support and the Neighbor Advocate to remotely access my computer so that the Wi-Fi/cable modems settings could be checked and adjusted to allow the Ring signals to properly communicate with Rings cloud (remote) server/signal processer. What they accomplished was, in my opinion, beyond the capability of a non-technically oriented individual (read my opinion/recommendation, following).

In my opinion, as recommended to Rings personnel, because of the many variables impacting the Rings performance (and any company's "cloud" based video/audio monitoring and response system), I recommend that it be installed and set up by a tech-savvy individual working with Ring's 2nd. Level tech. Support personnel (really good to work with) or have the installation and setup performed by a company experienced installing Ring and experienced with the vagaries of Wi-Fi, the internet, modems, and data transmission to insure its proper operation from the get-go. Otherwise, as do-it-yourself project for a non-technical individual or an inexperienced installation company, it might be a real challenge to achieve the best performance possible.

The video image is high-resolution, with beautiful color rendition and really good
Night-vision.

The audio portion provides clear 2-way voice communications. I now recommend the Ring DoorbellPro system especially following the aforementioned installation recommendations. IT WORKS! IT REALLY DOES!

It pays to pursue the correction of a problem.

Cameras (2), too many times, take a long time to go live and disconnect from the Ring on-line server too often - rendering them not very useful in situations that require really fast 'live' activation. My ISP is super fast and reliable, the signal strengths of the two Ring units are strong. All technical specifications are met.

Ring's customer service has improved a bit over that of a year or so ago,

Purchased Ring Video Doorbell - batery won't hold and customer service won't help
Purchased Ring Video Doorbell, having bought several other Ring products in the past that I had been very happy with. The website saiys that the battery would last from 6 months to 1 year, however after 36 hours the battery levels dropped from 100% to 89%. Contacted Customer Services via the online chat system hoping to receive a solution or even an apology. Instead, I was told that this is normal since my doorbell had received a lot of activity duri g those 36 hours and that the 6 months - 1 year battery life promise only refers to a max of 4 events/day. I explained that I felt misled, as this wasn't what the website had promised. Plus, this was very limiting and sort of rendered the product useless! No solution was offered and I was very bluntely told that I was free to return the product if I wanted to.
I am extremely disappointed with both the profuct and the customer service experience. After doing a bit of research of my own, I found out that there is a solar cam I could purchase in order to keep the Doorbell charged up. Why didn't the Customer Service Representative even bother to advise?
Horrible experience and very disappointing product.

Hi Andra,

I am so sorry for your recent experience with your Ring device as well as with our CS agent. While it is true that the batteries can last between six and 12 months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors including weather, the number of events captured etc. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events daily, you can try adjusting your motion settings. We can provide you with some additional tips as well.

As previously requested, please email me directly so that I can review the issues you've encountered as well as your interaction with our CS agent. You can connect with me via email at Bilan.jenkins@ring.com. I look forward to turning your Ring experience around!

SEE UPDATE BELOW AFTER READING: I started this process back in December when my Ring Pro unit became ineffective. After a few weeks of having to jump through hoops, I just gave up trying to deal with it. At the behest of my son who just returned his with no complications, I reopened my ticket. First comes, you need to send us the email thread from your email address. Seriously? I replied to them from my original email address. Next came, we need a credit card on file for you to send it back, just in case they dont receive the original one back? Now that cracked me up. They want me to send them the device and preauthorize a charge in case they dont get the original back. THAT MAKES NO SENSE. If I send the original back, then they send a replacement, why would you need a credit card. Its not like they send a replacement, then place a hold on a card until the get the original back. Ridiculous. They do not send you an RMA, Shipping label, or instructions. And why should I pay return shipping for this epic fail? They should use a model like their parent company Amazon; you have a return, you print a label, and ta da, you send it back. Ring needs to find a progressive thinker to bring their customer service into the 21st Century. Now as far as the product itself: Very inconsistent, blackouts, cant talk live, connectivity issues, poor video quality, doesn't track movements, etc. I have great WiFi 100/100 up down, close to router-less than 25 feet. Performed all the tech recommendations. Its just not ready for prime time. Well at least it does have a Warranty, however hard it is to engage the process.

UPDATE: Literally minutes after I posted this review, I received notification I would receive a shipping label to return the product. Why we have to go through great lengths to remedy something as simple as a return and replace is beyond comprehension. Tenacity is the key though, frustrating yes, but the cost of your purchase warrants it.

UPDATE 2: I received a full refund, they just couldn't get their act together. I bought a NEST, although they are a bit more expensive for their cloud recording, it is a much better camera, no issues.

I bought a RING system to provide security at a construction site where I am remodeling a house in a sketchy neighborhood. I have 3 cameras: front, inside and rear, plus a Chime extender. At first, all cameras functioned correctly; i. E., I received the selected alert tones, was able to establish live view, and could also leave my PC connection open and monitor all activity at the construction site.

Several months ago I stopped receiving any alerts and the live view stopped functioning. After many hours with tech support, I still received no alerts and live view no longer functioned. Moreover, RING recently instituted a 2FA (2-factor authorization) arrangement. Now, before I can log in, I must wait to receive an email verification code. My PC application logs out by itself every few minutes, so each time I want to see my construcion site I have to wait for another email. In summary, RING no longer serves the monitoring function for which I purchased it; no longer sends motion alerts, no longer provides live view and no longer permits PC monitoring. A disaster in every respect.

Today 02/27/2020, after another 59 minute phone call, "Neil" from RING Leadership ageed to provide a pre-paid return label and refund my equipment upon receipt.

As a software developer and technical writer for several Fortune 100 companies over a 20 year career, I would suggest that the resources responsible for the recent changes in system architecture and UAT be dismissed or reassigned. In order to address the security issues, which probably affected only a few users, the usefulness (and marketability) of their product was totally destroyed.

As an update to this post... both of my Ring devices, doorbell & Camera failed because the battery would no longer hold a charge. The doorbell began to require recharging more frequently. I used the changing cable and AC/DC adapter provided. The video camera I had on my garage roof was continually plugged into the solar adapter. It slowly began failing to charge, even on a summer, sunny day. I removed the video camera and attempted to recharge it. Both doorbell and camera stopped taking a charge.

I called support. It took me two days to get past the on-hold wait. The tech focused on the video camera (non-doorbell) and said I shouldn't have left the solar panel plugged into the camera all the time. He said it ruined the battery. If I still had warranty on it, it would have voided the warranty. Seriously? I have to get on a ladder and climb up to the roof of the garage and plug in/unplug this solar panel for charging! I hung up with him very frustrated. I called back the next day, I spoke with a lady (couldn't understand her English). She gave up on me and transferred me to a man whose English wasn't much better. He laughed at the excuse given by the previous tech of having the solar panel plugged into the device too long. He said the batteries do not last forever. They are expected to last possibly the life of the device, meaning when a newer model is available. He said they do not sell replacement batteries. (Obviously not. How else can you sell the newer model if you allow the customer to continue using the old device and replacing the battery?)

I trashed both devices and now using/testing Nest Doorbell (which I love!) and I have installed Blink video cameras (5 in all) around the outside. The Blink devices are pricey and do require lithium AA batteries, but I can deal with changing them twice a year. Both are on Amazon.

Ring wants to be the big dog in the race, but because Jamie Siminoff, the founder and chief executive of Ring, launched the business so badly and is using international customer service, it never got off on a good foot. Amazon did buy Ring, but only after some smart investors/companies turned it down... and for a good reason.

Just a little update for those of you who get a reply on here from "Kandyce C."; the email address is a "catch-all" mailbox where you receive a reply from any of their contracted support people. They play email-tag with you for days. Then if you call, you don't speak to this Kandyce (because she's not a real person). You get someone who struggles to speak English and you can't understand them. They have a script in front of them that they just read trying to walk you into the trap of buying the newest equipment or replacing it (at your expense). Everything is out of warranty the minute it gets shipped. (no surprise there) They don't know how to respond to you if you throw them a curve ball in the conversation (that's because it's not in the script) so they back up and start re-reading the same lines again. If you notice, all Ring does in these responses is state that's not how they do things and apologize. Then encourage you to email them, which leads to calling some third-world call center that probably also supports washing machines, cell phones, Dell computers, HP printers, (you get my point). When I called, they wanted me to climb a ladder and work on testing the equipment while on the phone with them. They highly insulted my knowledge of wireless technology by telling me some twisted story that wireless signals can't pass through walls and I had to go to some store and buy a special "repeater" (It's called an "extender" but they said that was the wrong term) to install outside. I agree with Scott, Shannon, Michael, and the others on here... it's a bad deal. The owners of Ring had the equipment manufactured "overseas" and then hired a call center over there to support and troubleshoot issues. My Ring products have been dismantled and picked up by a company that uses parts from unwanted technology. I couldn't live with myself if I tried to Ebay or sell these on Craig's List.

Previous review

Website: It is awkward and difficult to navigate. Poor design and functionality. Users a lot of Java which is not a platform to totally dedicate your site on. But that's not what I'm really reviewing here.

Customer Service: It appears that the customer service is outside the U.S. or at least Chat and email support is. I can tell by the broken English that is attempted. The communication is far from trained and very limited in knowledge of Ring.com It seems they are hired as support for this company but only work on support scripts.

Billing: My credit card keeps reverting back to an old card that I first used when setting up the plan back in 2016. Suddenly, I get an email that the monthly fee can't be charged. I go to Ring.com and see the old card is attempting to be billed. I change it again. My account locks down and I have no active account. I contact support via chat and I get, "Billing update. Do again in 24 hrs." Then the chat agent stops responding. Whatever!

Equipment: I will say this to give myself so credit for knowing what I'm doing; I work as a government contractor working on wireless systems and networks. I know how to test wifi and other home networks. I've setup about every router and network in my community. The Ring equipment is a train wreck! This stuff appears to be build outside the U.S. It is very cheap and using some older technology. It will work but with very poor performance. Someone will be pounding on my front door because I'm not receiving notifications.

1) I have the first generation door bell... the UPS man walks up to my front door and puts the package down and walks off without tripping the device. Yet a squirrel is raiding my bird feeder all day, 76' away and my chime goes off non-stop. I have the coverage area backed off to almost 5 feet from the house. Also, the battery needs full charges about every 2 weeks, which is ridiculous.

2) I have a garage camera with solar charger. The battery stays charged, but I'm concerned about it continually being plugged into the device and charging. Batteries don't like that. They tend to overheat. It's too close to my house for comfort.

3) These devices have a horrible latency of trying to connect to the network when you need to answer the door ring, when trying to check on a motion trigger, or just check outside while you're 600 miles from home. People will ring the device and by the time it connects, the visitor is in their car driving away. The batteries are not strong enough to handle the camera and the wifi signal.

4) I mysteriously received the Chime Pro and thought it was sent in error. Come to find out, it was sent free of charge. Hmmm. "What's up with that?" I thought to myself. After reading all these reviews, I can see why! Throw some peanuts at the lions to calm down the bad reviews. Speaking of which, it won't stay connected to my wifi extender, which is less than 5 feet away. My TiVo unit is screaming with connectivity and it's using the same extender with over 30' away.

My Upload speed is 50 and down is 10.

Technology is a risky investment. (Point blank). There's always risks buying into the market. Before you do, always check reviews (Like I failed to do) and analyze the seller/company/commercials. If they only showing you the icing on the cake but squirreling around the big picture... pause and think! Just a bad project with little quality input. I would make this comparison: Kmart Blue Light Special TracPhone to an iPhone or Android.

I wish that I would have found this site and read these reviews, prior to purchasing this piece of junk!
Good Points:
--> Camera resolution enables you to clearly see objects in both the foreground and background (color in daylight; black and white at night)
--> Both hardware and software installation is simple and quick.
--> The life of the lithium ion battery pack lasts a long time; even when your settings are set to levels which are supposed to consume more battery and minimize battery life.
Bad Points:
--> The software application is neither intuitive nor user friendly. You have to select through multiple screens, in order to accomplish simple functions such as checking battery life or reviewing monitored events.
--> Sensors are completely sub-standard and unreliable. They do not accurately detect motion, the vast majority of the time. They also regularly provide false-positive responses (i. E., notify you that there is motion detected when there really isn't any motion).
--> Live streaming of events is impossible. The system constantly locks-up and loses connectivity. By the time that you're able to see an event, the event has already taken place and it is too late to react in real-time or do anything about it (i. E., in the best case, you may receive a historical record of a past event). By the time you receive a notification, someone could have broken into your house, stolen your possessions and already drove away.
--> Ring "Protection" plans are not cost effective. Ring charges you extra to store recorded events on the cloud. The subscription service is not worth it.
--> The lithium ion battery pack takes a very long time to fully charge. If you want to use your peephole cam and doorbell while your primary battery pack is re-charging, you must purchase a secondary battery pack to utilize in the interim and swap battery packs accordingly.
Bottom Line:
This product is not ready for the consumer marketplace. It does not function properly and does not provide a good customer experience. It certainly does not perform as advertised nor lives up to consumer expectations.
You will experience frustration and buyer's remorse. If you purchase one, the only thing that you have to look forward to is your refund once you have returned it.

Poor product:
- The plastic mount immediately broke after my first install. The replacement part is almost broken as in I have to be really careful when removing the Cam to charge the battery
- I have to charge the battery every few weeks, not the several months that they claim. The usage I would say is low to moderate only.
- sometimes, it takes forever before it starts charging... once it starts charging, it takes another 10 hours to charge. I think the battery or the camera is about to die and its not even a year old yet
- The Video quality is poor. Good luck identifying people captured.
-I guess it wouldnt matter if the Video quality is good because the subject Will be on their way out by the time the Video starts recording because of the lag.
- very little difference when setting the Zones (sensitivity). I find this feature useless.
- many other bad features

Anti-customer company
- they recently sent me a discount code for a different camera, hoping it would be better I tried to purchase one only to be told that the code doesnt work. After being accused that I was not sent a discount code, I was asked to provide proof. The email sent to me indicates that the offer was exclusive to me and intended only for my account. It was inadvertently used by another person and I was accused that I gave my discount code away and not given another one. How can I give something that supposedly exclusive to me according to their offer? All I did was forward an email to a relative to alert them to check their email if they have received then same offer. Apparently, the relative was able to use someone elses code and apparently it was not exclusive for me. At the end if the day, Im glad it happened and prevented me bunying another horrible product from this horrible company. I researched and found (and bought) a better product and referred them to relative a and Friends. It seems this company had been livimg under a rock and unaware of the importance of treating your customers well.

Totally Terrible Customer Service and Support.
January 20, 2021

I have a total of 23 ring products in my home.
- 14 Piece Ring Alarm with Professional Monitoring
- 4 Path Lights
- 1 Step Light
- 2 Spot Lights
- 2 Floodlight Battery
3 Weeks ago, I contacted Ring Support to inform that the 2 Floodlight Batteries were flickering and need to be replaced. The female rep I spoke to did some troubleshooting and after 30 mins informed me that a replacement order has been submitted and I should receive them shortly.
Fast forward 2 weeks and I received nothing. I call Ring again and speak with a male rep who tells me the "previous agent" I spoke to did everything wrong and nothing was processed. He proceeds to tell me he will "fix" this issue and send out the two replacement floodlights and asked me to send him the picture of the serial numbers for both floodlights which I did. Fast forward 5 days and I receive just "one" flood light. I call Ring support again and now a female rep, tells me that the previous rep only ordered "one".
Tell me if this is ridiculous or not!
3 Calls and I ask for the supervisor (whose name is "Rose") who tells me they do not have the email or number for the "Ring complaints" division and I need to look at the Ring packaging for more details on who to contact.
I am on the line with them as I write this review and guess what, they had put me on hold, and the line just cuts off. Surprise!
I am totally disappointed that the Ring Company belonging to Amazon has such terrible support. You would think they would at least offer you a discount or waive the product charge for me spending 3 calls of my life for their mistake.
Such a Shame.
If someone from Ring or Amazon does decide to take action on this review, please look up the below request ID's:
Request ID Plc26d5-4758 – This was where the male rep only ordered one replacement instead of two
Request ID Plc3832-c004 – This was where the second replacement was ordered.

Regards
Nidish

Consistently from Saturday night, late, until Sunday morning, my device buzzes to announce 'front door motion' but the screens, if not black, do not show motion - - - except for the time that there was a mountain lion passing a big bush, which I do have at the end of my driveway, BUT that bush is obscured by a tree (leaves/ branches) AND THAT SAME PICTURE WAS ON THE INTERNET DAYS BEFORE WIITH THE CAPTION OF A MOUNTAIN LION BEING SPOTTED IN A CALIFORNIA SUBURB. Anyway from 430A CST 14 December 2020 through to 343P CST, my device buzzed me 49 (fortynine) times about motion at my front door BUT SHOWED MY ONLY THE FRONT YARD - - - NO MOTION/NOBODY-NOTHING MOVING. Decided to call RING and speak to a supervisor or manager to complain about harassment (remember the RING person accessing an indoor camera in a little girl's bedroom?). Held for over 40 minutes and reached Patrick in the Philippines who couldn't help me because I can't access my email account after snarkily responding to a RING email. Then he needed the device serial number but didn't have a supervisor available (I think he answered my call from his home) and transferred me to Jordan who was reported to be a technician in Jamaica. Jordan needed a MAC number from my device and stated he believed it has been hacked. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE RING DOORBELL.

I bought the Ring.com Spotlight Cam and after trying to install 4 different cameras this camera will not work with my Iphone7, my Macbook Pro or my wife's Iphone 6. I called into customer service every weekend for a month and they had no idea why this wouldn't work and kept sending me new camera's to try. KEEP READING... So I decided to say $#*! it and bought the ARLO PRO system and thank GOD I did because 1 hour after I got the ARLO PRO system up and running the camera's started notifying me at 11:30pm that someone 2 people broke in to my backyard and were trying to then break into my house but thank they could not because everthing was locked up. They were trying to get into my front, back and side door and windows. They then broke into my garage and started trashing the garage and eating and drinking everything in my fridge and then peed all over the place. I was up with a sick baby so I didn't catch the first few notifictions but then when I did notice I saw someone walking around my gated backyard. 7 police officers and a helicopter 20 minutes later they caught them because I was able to be notified through the Arlo system. I have 2 2 year olds and I can say the Arlo Pro System saved my family and house and we feel safe because of Arlo not Ring.com

Absolute Junk!
January 21, 2020

Ring Door Peephole View Cam
It is a good piece of hardware ONLY if the software works properly!

Here are my observations after having it installed for a month

- The so called "knock sensor" never worked for me, the technical guys could not come up with a solution, I had to disable it. A delivery van almost always used to activate the motion alerts ( when it stayed on)

- The motion zone is not accurate, i. E/ when some one enters the zone, the motion alerts are not activated till the person has passed my drive way and reached the front door then pressing the door bell.

- I am not able to customize the motion zone accurately as I can with my WYZE flood security cam.

- The motion alert has a mind of its own, it keeps disabling itself as soon as I exit the app. (It happens every time I force quit or exit the app; it is the same way on all my iOS devices.) So many people are complaining about exactly the same thing and customer support is doing absolutely nothing about it. Even if everybody gives them a 1 star rating I don't think they'll do anything about it still.

- There is always a delay watching the alert video despite having an excellent broadband, by the time I manage that, the person has disappeared (once someone stole my package from in front of my house and I could not tell who did it because of this stupid delay.)

- Very poor or nonexistent technical help

This issue is driving me crazy. Even if I don't force close the app it still happens on both my iPad and iPhone. This sucks as it renders the peephole camera useless without the proper notifications. I will have no other option but to return all my ring stuff and ask for a full refund since they can never find me a solution but to pay an extra $300 to upgrade it to the elite system. I should actually get compensated for this security breach. I feel that ring doesn't care about their customers or about fixing this issue as long as they make their sales quota.

This is so frustrating. We pay good money for these devices and they don't work. If I don't get a notification this device becomes useless. Does ring read these messages? Or do we have to contact them a different way?

I can go on and on, but time does not permit me to do so.

I wish I could give negative stars instead of one star.

Update: I have tried every trick in the book and Still the same, no fix yet!, I looked at their system status for past incidents and it looks like they logged this as a known issue back on December 16th 2019; but it is also marked as "resolved" now, but based on all our replies on the forums, this certainly is not the case. I think we should all be giving 1 Star ratings to get their attention to fix this security breach and to get them to admit that they have an issue, also we should be contacting support directly (through their chat, calling etc.) and hopefully they will update this glaring defect in the software/app for iOS users.

I gave Ring benefit of the doubt in case I do not fully know how to use the Ring Doorbell to get VIDEO ALERT without a paid subscription plan. So far I have not heard back from them. I guess their responses to the reviewers is just a smoke screen to show they care. Almost all their responses are similar and appeared they are eager to help. I wonder how many reviewers get their issues resolved! Below is my latest email to Bilan;

To Bilan. Jenkins

I replied to you on August 13 without hearing from you. I am copying the entire email as well as asking your instruction on how I can view a video alert without subscribing to your plan as claimed by you. Look forward to your reply!

Dear Bilan,

Thanks for your response. However I feel you are not sincere in addressing my issues with your product, hence I prefer to reply you through Sitejabber.
You mentioned I quote: (There is no obligation to subscribe to a Protect Plan, nor will you be automatically signed up for it...) NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS IS BASIC CONSUMER RIGHT and I am well aware of it! My major complaint is Ring does not mention a word on their product packaging about subscription you have to pay to view the video. Most of your competitors allow video clips to be viewed for several days for free so that one can review who was at the door. Yes I still get alert on my smart phone BUT WITHOUT video is USELESS! You must realize most people cannot immediately go to Life View at the instant when the smart phone receives an alert triggered by motion or door bell. IMO Ring should allow the consumer to review the video at least once or within a certain period of time for free without having to pay to subscribe to your plan! The non-disclosure on the packaging to inform the buyer about subscription fees is misleading the consumers!

Why do I have to pay to subscribe to their plan in order to see video alert? Although Ring said you can still see live video alert on your smart phone without subscribing to their plan which is not true, by the time you open the app when you get the ring on your phone, the video is already gone! They should allow you to review the video at least one time or allow you to download the video if you want to. I would never purchase this device if I knew I could not see the video without subscribing. I could simply get a motion detector that wifi to my phone that someone is at my door. I feel like I am misled and being held hostage!
