Got charged twice - $314 by Rentalcars and then another $520 by Europcar when picking up the car in Malaga, Spain. Despite numerous emails to Rentalcars for a refund or at least an explanation for the overcharge, did not even receive a response. An absolute shady company stealing from customers. Never booking through them again for sure
Tried to cheat me out of $230. Rental company would not honor their voucher. Ended up paying twice as much and they changed me $230. No customer service. Waited on hold for over an hour numerous times. Filed claim with my credit card company. They contested it. After much work on my part I got a credit. Avoid these crooks!
Rentalcars.com has bizarre (hidden) rules --IF you do use them, read everything including the fine print! I booked them through Booking.com (I'm a 'former VIP customer'). The car rental company should be called 'rentalcars.con.' As a US citizen, I planned to use my valid US drivers' license but when I arrived back in the USA I was told that I had to have an international license! The car rental company never got a single nickel from the $238 that I paid -- rentalcars.con kept it and did not provide any service whatsoever. I paid again to rent once I arrived in the States. This is only ONE example of their unethical and greedy business practices.
Very supportive prior to renting, Rentalcars.com failed to let me know there was a 30 Euro Location Fee Charged by Dollar Car Rental on site at Dublin Airport. I had no choice but to pay this, and I've heard nothing from Rentalcars.com since then. I cant' log in to my own account, for they never sent me the needed code, and no subsequent needed code has been received from them although their website tells me they have sent it each time I request one. Rentalcars.com and Dollar are not companies I would recommend to anyone.
Rented a car paid 287.40 when I reserved it.
Was told I would need to pay 137 additional at pick up. Had a 651 dollar hold placed on card then charged 451 after the hold.
Total paid for 4 days was 738.57 complete bull. Don't trust them
Booked a car in Spain they then sent an email stating they wanted a further €2000 on collection of vehicle I immediately phoned to cancel, within 20 minutes 2 days later they took the money from my debit card. Fraudulently as they are not supposed to hold my details 3 months later still no refund
Rented a Hertz car at Denver airport for 12 days. Paid rental cars.com $712.53 on 06/14/23. Seemed like a good price compared to Expedia and other sites. Picked-up car on 07/27/23 and was charged an additional $291.22 by Hertz for concession fee, licensing cost recovery fee, facility use fee, road safety fee and tax. Total of $1,003.75 was MORE than any other site for similar car. Should have looked at rentalcars.com reviews which are consistently very low. Lesson learned. DO NOT use this company.
Our flight was cancelled due to bad weather. After notifying RentalCars online that we would be arriving a day later and after a night sleeping in the airport we arrived to be told that we "no showed" and the rental was lost. RentalCars refused to offer a re-booking or refund because "Fees had been incurred" even though Hertz head office made it clear they only get paid once a car is returned. When challenging RentalCars support about the fees they could neither describe or provide evidence of them.
Flight was delayed 3x. I got in 5 hours late. My rental car? Gone. Sold out from under me. No refund from rental cars.com. All cars on the island are booked. Only solution is a refund. They talked in circles. They basically said they can't refund because their system doesn't allow it. Try that with any other business? That's game playing.
Sorry I can't refund you because I can't refund you. I'm absolutely furious. I lost $617.41. Plus the extra costs of taxis I now have to use. $1000 gone. Plus precious vacation hours per day vs having a rental car.
Bought their insurance. Had a problem and found out is useless. They also have my wrong email on file. I tried to have it changed. It didn't work. I can't read their communications. I do not know anything about my claim
Suggestions:
- Avoid their insurance. Basically if something happens you have to pay the rental company and then claim the money back to them but it didn't work for me
- Check the prices here and then try to actual rental cars. If the price matches rent from the car rental with no intermediary and if you want you can try their insurance. This one they sell it doesn't seem to work
They charged full prices at the time of making an online booking. I followed all the instructions they provided. Waited hours in the line at the rental counter and yet they denied my reservation stating new rules which were never mentioned in any of their instructions or terms & conditions that they shared with me at the time of booking. Neither did they provide the rental car, nor did they return my deposit. Customer care was unreachable even though I tried calling many times from the rental counter. Later I reached out to them via email and customer support chat options as well, but each time they rudely denied my request and never returned my deposit. Also I asked several times to just show me the details of the clause which I did not meet, but they did not produce any document or terms & conditions to support that. I feel very convinced that it is part of their scam to deny customers' valid insurance and to force people in needy situation to pay exorbitant amount to buy the same from them. Terrible service, filled with scams. I would strongly recommend all to try avoiding this company at all cost.
A company which build to hide terms and conditions as much as they can but when anything happens bad with your rent they just say "Terms and conditions" like a parrot. No one is taking any initiative. It is almost a scam organization which you cannot find any point of contact if you require an explanation. I did not get the car also not refund. I cannot understand how companies like these are still working. I made a mistake to use them but strongly recommend no one to use any service from them. I will continue to look for website to rate and inform people about how they work. Disappointment!
My flight was delayed by several hours. Contacted RentalCars.com and advised of my delay several hours before scheduled pick-up time of car and advised. They choose to call my reservation a no-show kept my prepaid 3 days rental and did not give me a car that paid for my vacation. They also have enough contempt/intent to scam to tell my credit card company they were never contacted about arrival delay. Phone records are not subjective and are being submitted I don't know where its going. Stay away and you won't find yourself being a victim of their scams.
Use Google and identify the rental car companies at your destination and make reservation directly with them not a rip-off middleman. Pay attention to hours of operation and terms and conditions these companies are getting very creative on how to burn the customer.
Never book with this company RentalCars.com. They are unethical and utterly dishonest. They advertise very low price but hardly mention that you have to pay for mileage. When you get the bill after returning you will be shocked. When you complain somebody in Britain replies to you. May be this kind of malpractice works well in Europe. They give you runaround and never refund. Budget is their partner in crime. I got burned twice and was charged about hundred dollars extra for $75 rental. Would give zero stars if i could. Never again. Do not book. They are the..
RentalCars.com took a booking for the closing time of their vendor, with no warning that a major brand on-airport firm was not going to be open if I was even a minute late.
Arrived at the rentals building as soon as the minorly delayed flight allowed, and they had all gone home in spite of having my flight number.
The one-star is because RentalCars.com have refused to refund a trip that was not taken largely through their fault. Rip-off artists, avoid.
Avoid! It's a scam! Don't be fooled by the cheap online price. It's a broker, it doesn't give your as much service/ protection when your book through car hiring company, especially when it comes to refund.
Once you made your booking and paid by credit card, they will not give your money back under any circumstances.
If you have time an energy to read and analyse all the fine prints and are ok with that then go ahead.
They bury everything in there to make sure they can make you pay extra or not to refund you.
Don't buy their insurance on their website either, it's a total duplicate with the car hiring company.
Awful experience. Rented cars in Europe twice through Rentalcars.com. Both times surprise charges were made to my credit card after the return. The first time the charges were refunded as per Rentalcars.com "The fees in question are for minor local fees which should have been included in your prepaid voucher." The second time I am not being refunded as they are claiming I am responsible for tickets, tolls and fines, none if which I incurred. Clearly systemic problem that is an absolute hassle to deal with not to mention the extra expenses for no explainable reason.
Rental Cars customer service seem quite happy to lie about the facts of the rental. I assume they think they can make the complaints process so tortuous and long winded that customers give up. Even after the Sixt branch manager has clearly taken responsibility for the cancelled booking and clearly refuted 'no show' reason Rental Cars erroneously gave for not giving me a refund. I have been fighting this issue since the 9/9/21, the night of the deeply unpleasant encounter at Sixt. Rental Cars rather than helping their customer have done nothing but lie and prevaricate.
Please if you want to stay true, make sure you have a good support staff that will respond to the grievances of customers. When you are done with long transatlantic flight and waiting to get your car from an agent that is unable to provide you one with your (rentalcars.com) booking, the last thing you want is unanswered phone calls. OK the next day I did try to call your representative. Two times the phone was answered and put on hold with nobody attending the call. By this point I had lost my patience. What gives!
My flight delayed, I called the rentalcars.com liaison office on the ground, they cancelled my reservation immediately as they would be shut by the time of the landing and assured that nothing was charged. I was asked to fill out a form in the end of the original booking for reimbursement, which I did, simply to hear that rentalcars.com was not going to reimburse me on the amount that they NEVER paid to the local liaison agency. That should be illegal and IS WRONG! Never trust a word of what appears on their website + you can reach no one expect some outsourced 'customer care agent' who's been told to say, 'sorry, we cannot to anything, forget your money.'
Answer: Good luck with that one, I'm in the same boat, I'm going to pass my situation on to the travel doctor at the Sunday Times.
