My flight delayed, I called the rentalcars.com liaison office on the ground, they cancelled my reservation immediately as they would be shut by the time of the landing and assured that nothing was charged. I was asked to fill out a form in the end of the original booking for reimbursement, which I did, simply to hear that rentalcars.com was not going to reimburse me on the amount that they NEVER paid to the local liaison agency. That should be illegal and IS WRONG! Never trust a word of what appears on their website + you can reach no one expect some outsourced 'customer care agent' who's been told to say, 'sorry, we cannot to anything, forget your money.'
Hired a car, collected from Sixt and was advised of extra insurance which I declined and everything else covered. Didn't select any additional options. Had to give my credit card as down-payment of £1000 in case there was any damage to the car. Returned fine, no concerns. I was advised there were no additional charges. Few weeks later they charged my account £60... Rental cars gave me the runaround as they said it was Sixt's problem and surprisingly Sixt did the same... £60 extra for insurance that I didn't request and a fuel charge that was apparently included in what I paid for already. Would never book with them again!
Would give 0 stars if possible. Complete scam on cancellation fees, I am sure this is how they make their money, charging over 30% of the booking value. They stand by this without justification even after the actual car provider waives all fees. Just money in their pocket for nothing. No office location, the perfect scam.
I originally reserved a medium size sedan thru RC.com using Dollar for a period of 19 days. After 3 days into the reservation I had to return home to attend surgery on my wife and turned in my car where it was first picked up. Upon return I was charged by Dollar $89 for the the mileage etc. My original cost for the reservation from Rentalcars.com was $481. When asked for an adjustment in the total cost, Rentalcars.com advised me to read their 6 page contract under 'early returns' where it stated, that no refund or adjustment would be made for an early return. I paid $500 for 3 days use of the vehicle. I protested to my Credit Card, Capital One who did nothing to assist me other than read the replies from me and the vendor, and say they can do nothing. The only reason I gave a rating of "1" was because there is no negative choices or even zero. Buyer Beware! Find another rental company.
Made 3 reservations and had to cancel twice. Have not been credited for two cancellations and in process of trying to get refunded $1040. 70 they owe me! Also, paid for CDW, collision damage waiver, then paid Europcar again for premium insurance to tune of $$490.18! Avoid Rentalcars at all costs! And Europcar. Stick with big names like Hertz.
Rated 77 out of 77 for car hire on Trustpilot for good reason.
Don't be fooled by the initial low cost charge. They will rip you off for supposed scratches incurred.

Do not use Greenmotion.
I have been a long time frequent user of rentalcars.com and would historically suggested then to many people. Not anymore. I had a very bad experience over the last 2 days when I tried to cancel a reservation that had been outlined incorrectly. Once I received the confirmation and saw who the supplier was I immediately cancelled (all within 5 min) and was told I would not receive a refund. After numerous emails back and forth, they said they tough luck. All for the ale of €70? Seems short sighted. I am done with them, sadly.
I booked a car with almost a month in advanced, got to the pick up location and the conditions of the rental were completely different ( it was limited miles, their own insurance company as only choice and exclusively within the state of Florida). I left without a car and they never refunded me for it.
Booked and paid for a car from Valencia airport to arrive on the 1st of August. Plane was delayed by 3 hours and the collection office was closed by the time we arrived. No contact number, offices closed. Decided to return the next day only to be told we were a "no show" and the rental has been cancelled and there would be no refund. Customer service was shocking just repeated that there was nothing they would do and company policy. They bare face stole my £550 with zero shame. How do they sleep at night.
Apparently Booking.com sublets their vehicle rentals to Rentalcars.com in the United Kingdom (not in USA).
I would give a negative rating if allowed. Proper Customer Service is simply non existent. Additional charges on back end of 71.00 for a 3 day rental.
There s a high probability you will be frustrated and unsatisfied if you book vehicle rentals through rental cars.com or booking.com.
MY OPINION - RUN AWAY FAST
Ill spare you the details, but yes, they are scam artists. They did not allow me to cancel when I had already been told I could, and the company they deal with charged me an extra $100 out of nowhere. I could have easily bypassed them but suffered due to it. Nobody answered any of my questions and kept passing me around to different numbers until they gave me a disconnected number. I highly recommend you stay the hell away from this website.
Please don't west your money, stop dealing with this company, if you need a car hire it directly from the supplier, otherwise you will face many troubles, my last experience with this rentalcars was so bad, they totally spoiled my honey moon, they took my money, all of it although I never saw the car.
All employees had been trained just to say sorry sir we understand your feelings but we can't do anything, very difficult to reach them, useless company, and by the way all suppliers might dealing with them but they still do not respect them, they will never offer you the same service like if you has dealt directly with them
Yes you think you're saving money by choosing them but it's most likely too happen that you lose all of because of there tricks and hidden points that you'll never notice, until they surprise you
Booked a car and an hour later was cancelled. They took my money and then called the booking advising it will be refunded within 7 days. Stranded with $800 deducted from my credit card. Thank god for Amex and then refunding me the amount straight away.
They are also kept the commission of $20 and have done nothing for it.
My partner lodged a review and they reported it to trustpilot who removed it. Dont trust this company.
This company is unethical and absolute crooks. My card was charged 4 times for a car! Don't use these crooks. I tried to get refund after not using the company at all and was only refunded for two of the 4 charges! I will call my bank again to see why they again put 2 new charges back on my credit card!
Worst booking site ever! I bought the collision insurance for the rental but the company (Routes) doesn't accept their insurance rendering me unable to rent the car. I had to scramble to use another car rental service. I then called rental cars.com and all they would refund me was the collision insurance and I lost the rest of my money for the 3 day rental. Customer service call was useless she kept reading off of a scripted card. Don't lose your money rent with someone more trustworthy
Run from this company. Their policy states that reservations could be amended just call. I called several times and the call was dropped each time. Could not amend because web site didn't work and phone numbers were not working.
I have nothing but bad things to say about this Manchester based scam company. They sold me full insurance on a new rental in January 2020, I was told to settle the damage fees with Avis/Budget in case of any accident & the rentalcars.com would refund me in 2 weeks. I was rear ended in a non-fault accident. We are now in July and they are refusing to settle by saying that the accident paper work is not fully completed. Every time I call them they come up with so much excuses. They are not to be trusted. They are dishonest and very dishonourable and the reviews speak for themselves. Stay miles away and save yourselves money and trouble.
During the booking they scare you into taking out full coverage insurance. Then, once the booking is finalised, you get a notification via email saying that your rental car company may still charge you a $2,000 deposit to collect the car! Which they did as they don't recognise the insurance by Rentalcars.com Even worse, if something goes wrong, you then have to pay for everything up front and then claim back from Rentalcars! And there is no domestic phone number available to call to even discuss anything!
We had a extremely disappointing 1st time experience when hiring the car from Blue motion. We were not aware they don't accept credit card but when making the booking we used a debit card and they took full payment. Now they won't give us a car and won't refund UAE 1800. This is totally unacceptable and very disappointing. Someone should be taking legal action against these type of scam companies. They are ripping off people.
Arrived late into Gold Coast airport (7.00pm), as our flight was delayed. They were closed, with no contact details. When I finally spoke to their head office, they said they would refund my money as long as we booked a Hertz car for $800 through them. I was standing in front of the Hertz counter at the time, who showed us the booking was for $500.00. Now they say that it is our problem, and to take it up with the airlines, as they don't care. NEVER EVER USE THEM. They don't care at all.
Answer: Good luck with that one, I'm in the same boat, I'm going to pass my situation on to the travel doctor at the Sunday Times.
