They told me that the dog that I wanted and payed application fee was adopted and after a week he was still on line to be adopted. I believe they make money with this adaption application fee and please avoid them.

Sucks
May 14, 2021

I spoke to a woman in Texas for all of 5 min for her to determine it wouldnt be a good match. I live in an apartment a big one but an apartment. She said "dont worry there's a dog out there for you. There are many digs to adopt." I just wanted to say to her yeah because of people like you who decide what's a good fit or not. I didnt though. We live in the woods... we hike everyday before I go to work. My boyfriend is a stay at home retired veteran dad. She placed judgment without truly knowing the circumstances. Thanks lady... its people like you who make it hard for the poor dogs to find there forever loving home. I dont recommend this site. Stay local.

I went to site cause i saw they had a beagle pug mix. Year old i wanted it so i filled out the application. I waited 3 months no reply i was suppose to get reply in a month. So i massaged them again 2 weeks no reply about the application. Then again i emailed them then i get a massage saying Our posting states a fence is required for Toby and you don't have one, therefore we can not approve the application. This is was not listed was requrminet 3 months ago. I had 2 husky dogs known needing a fence, but i trained them to stay in the yard which they did, i also had no problem with my lab. Anyway i did not like the lie i was told, the amount of time it took to reply, and the rude way they acted. Not everyone can afford a fence, nor should be excluded from adopting a dog because of it i have 2 arce yard plenty of room for the dog.

Stay away, the worst!
September 17, 2020

I have inquired about several pets on this site and they never get back to you, then after several weeks, you keep looking back and the dog is gone. I will never utilize this site again, it's a shame, you see the reviews!

PetFinder obviously does not monitor the organizations that post on their website. East Dallas Pet Rescue is not a reputable organization. The animals are not vet checked. They obviously don't know anything about how to determine a dog breed. They misrepresent the breed and age of the dogs. The dogs are not healthy when they are adopted out.

Not reliable
June 12, 2020

I have, time after time, filled out application after application after reaching out to the rescue to make sure the dog I am looking at is still available only to never hear a word back from them. When I go back in a day later to look at the dog again, they are no longer there. I am tired of looking and getting my hopes up only to get crushed because they are no longer available (mind you after asking the rescue and being told yes). I want to give a dog a good home, I want to rescue but I'm going to have to go to a breeder. My heart can't take much more of this.

Untrustworthy
September 14, 2020

Horrible service. The chat function sent me to a scam email service to reset my password. The email service company wanted $1 to reset my password which would automatically sign me up for a $46/moth service that I would have to opt-out of at a later date to end. The chat agent (definitely a BOT, I think) ended the chat without asking me - just sent me to the email services. Honestly, there is no way I would trust a company with this kind of customer service (not even a customer service phone number - only BOT chats) and practices with dogs. Dogs deserve better.

Most of the issues people have complained about are the fault of the shelter, not Petfinder. Petfinder is not a shelter. It does not house the animals. If you don't get a phone call or email, it is the fault of the shelter. Petfinder only posts the info the shelters give it. Once you inquire about a pet or apply to adopt one, it's out of their hands. Years ago, I adopted a dog I found on Petfinder. Now I'm looking for another dog.

They are thieves
April 8, 2020

I thought that I used this website and they stole over R10 000 from me, but it was for a website called Kittenfinder.com. The "owner" sent me a pic of her but it was stolen because the real person wasn't selling pets. They said we had to pay for a high altitude carrier and would be refunded. Please don't use kittenfinder.com. It is dangerous. As for petfinder, I'm not sure, never used it.

What is this?
July 27, 2022

I follow all the Petfinder steps, inquiry and application and heard nothing, Followed up with the agency directly and no response. Went to the agency website and completed another application which was more in - depth than adopting a baby. Sheesh! Then heard nothing, What on earth? Is this a real website?

Never get an answer
December 15, 2018

I thought it would be great to adopt a dog from a foster? I really like to get a dog but I will have to go to a breeder because adopting through pet finder or adopt a pet is not going to work. Do fosters get payed because I don't think they want the dogs to get adopted. I hope I am wrong but I am going to buy a puppy from a breeder.

Suggest you avoid dealing with PetFinder for locating a pet. Local rescue entities will work with you. PetFinder objective is to maximize its share of the money. They build a lot of sympathy in the storyline so you won't feel bad about plunking down the $450 - $850 fee for a compromised dog. They hide the medical and behavioral issues that will cost you several times that fee in the first three months. If you had worked directly with a rescue shelter you would have a much better insight into what is up ahead. Avoid the guilt and embarrassment that are purposely created by Petfinder. The losers that are created in this con game are the dog, the rescue shelter, and you.

I volunteer with a dog rescue that wanted to list available dogs on Petfinder. Petfinder would not accept our rescue because we were quite candid in saying that puppies born locally in NJ are adopted before bring spayed/neutered with the contractual obligation to spay/neuter along with details about the NJ Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program. The dozen or so vets we use do not condone pediatric spay/neuter. Petfinder said they would find us vets that would and unless we used them, we were not eligible to use Petfinder.

My experience was my dog was in a rescue, when I saw near his ad that I could sponsor him It made me feel close to him the Petfinder site said would go to the organization my dog was in and named that organization. I started hearing that the organizations do not get the money. I filed a claim with my bank, Petfinder contacted me by email saying that the organization would get the money in January today is Oct 23, so how in gods world wld their be a chance of any of that money going towards my dogs care. It's a farce is what it is and if I had not filed the claim with my bank the money probably wld of never been sent. Donate directly to a rescue not to Petfinder is my recommendation.

The website slow and you just give up. Hard to adopt a dog on here. Lol probably easier to adopt a human. Takes forever to get a response back. Then they play God on who can adopt. I am a responsible pet owner. Just because I buy my heartworm meds from Canada. I just quit on here. I just went to local shelters.

They rejected our applications with no context there wasn't anything wrong with the application! We have a dog with separation anxiety and needs a friend after our chihuahua passed away and they say that's not good enough?

100% Scam
February 5, 2018

Because I worked through PetFinder to adopt a pet, I assumed that I was dealing with a foster parent. I now believe that I was dealing with a scam artist. I think this lady's neighbor was relocating and didn't want to take the dog. So scam lady said that she'd take it, and told her family, "watch me get someone to pay me $100 for this mutt".

They let me drive 50 miles to meet them, then told me that I wouldn't be able to take the dog home yet (without giving me a reason as to why). I asked them why they didn't text me to tell me that. No valid answer. More importantly, the dog was billed as a Yorkie but looked nothing like the pictures provided.

Why is there not a "contact us" tab on the PetFinder website? If they are not vetting these ads, why is there not a disclaimer on their site stating so?

Waste of Time!
January 11, 2022

We have tried to get a kitten or young cat from the foster homes that are on PetFinder, but the foster home's won't allow you to adopt a kitten or young cat, that has blue eyes, with out adopting another cat or two along with it. If the cat ‘ladies‘ don't want to give up the foster cats, then they shouldn't be on PetFinder. We are very disappointed, as the cat foster people have made it near to impossible for anyone to adopt a single cat!
How do people know what a feline wants!?!? Does a cat speak English? They don't! The foster families instill their will upon the vulnerable and are not willing to give up their cats unless you get another one with it!
