The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and operational effectiveness. Common concerns include a lack of responsiveness from rescue organizations, frustrating website functionality, and perceived biases against quality breeders. Many customers reported unsuccessful attempts to adopt pets, often receiving no replies to their inquiries. While some users acknowledged the platform's role in facilitating pet adoption, the overarching sentiment reflects disappointment in the service's reliability and engagement. This feedback suggests a pressing need for improvements in communication, website usability, and support for both adopters and responsible breeders.

Total waste of time. You'll never hear back. You're better off looking at local animal shelter/Humane Society/non-profit animal rescue sites. OR, just go visit in-person. Pet Finder is a total scam.
Disclaimer: Due to the litigational nature of for profit entities with the means, I assert the flowing statement is my personal opinion and protected under the constitution.
I contacted multiple rescues in 5 states. One responded. I was both trying to place an endangered German Shepherd and adopt a companion only equine for my 27 yr. Old gelding whose 32 yr. Old pasture mate died. Where all the 1000s of unwanted and abused animals these places tout they help is unclear. I couldn't find one verifiable animal, just pictures. Invalid emails and phone numbers and/or no response through petfinders groups, either to save the dog from euthanasia or give a disabled old horse a forever home. The valid rescues are almost always area specific, with areas in need unrepresented. Interstingly, everybody's donate now buttons seem to work just fine. Zero stars. Pick one up off the streets if you really want to rescue a pet. Knock on the door of the starving neglected animals house, chances are they'd give it to you. Petfinder has enabled rescue groups to become an animal hoarding racket for their profit.
I find Petfinders to be a total waste of time and, IMHO, is probably a sham. I cannot tell you how many pets I applied to adopt. None of which ever sent me a reply. And these are from the organizations that "supposedly" put the dog up for adoption! And this is not the first time that this has happened. I tried once in 2020, again in 2021, and now in 2022. This is the last time I will ever use them. They are truly a total waste of time. I don't think they screen any of those organizations who are putting pets up for adoption. They simply take their money for the listing and are done with them.
I don't need a control freak asking for my life's history and deciding if I deserve to own a pet. Go to a local shelter and avoid 99% of the insulting mortgage applications you are forced to submit that never get a response.
Well now I know why there are so many dogs without homes. You cannot adopt if you are in an apartment, sometimes you have to have another dog, fenced yard of a certain kind etc. There are so many restrictions it is ridiculous. On some dogs they charge a large adoption fee so you could actually buy a dog cheaper from a breeder. I have literally spent almost two whole days looking to rescue a poor dog and I am ready to just buy one! I have loved my animals and they were with me 11 & 18 years but i don't qualify with these people!
I have sent in multiple requests to adopt a dog from this site. Out of all the inquiries I have sent in I have not heard back from ONE!. I have my own residence with plenty of land and have had previous dogs with a good reference from an accredited veterinarian. This leads me to believe this site is a SCAM. It appears all they are interested in is money with some agencies wanting money in advance for a pet "site unseen" with no refunds" primarily in Toronto, Canada. I have even sent many inquiries directly to Pet Finder with absolutely NO REPLY. Beware I can't imagine that they are more concerned with placing a pet than collecting money as they have demonstrated by ignoring legitimate inquiries.
First, I have filled out an application so many times I can't count. Applications just keep getting dumped. People don't respond to inquiries. I haven't gotten one response. This is a time consuming effort and very much a waste of time when you get nothing back from prospective pups you are interested. I don't think the lists are updated much at all. All this certainly a waste of time and effort.
The shelters do nothing but give you excuses as to why you cannot adopt from them. Some of the shelters want you to take training courses, take videos of your home, ask rediculous questions in general. Eventhough you qualify and your reference check out they still make up excuses as to why you cannot adpt. Pesonally i think a few of them are running cash grabbing scams. This is my opinion. We are seasoned pet owners and have had wonderful experiences with all of them over the years. So much for trying to do are part to help finding great homes for these animals. Do yourself a favor. Save the hassle a get one from a breeder, You will pay more but illiminate the huge un-neccessary hassle these shelters put you through.
The first thing is this organization should be ashamed! IS THIS ANOTHER SCAM? I'm sure your hands are out to collect donations and money! I have reached out to inquire about 3 different dogs and NOT ONE RESPONSE! And It's been 3 weeks. You claim to have such an urgency to adopt and can't even return a call or email? Please get in touch with your local animal shelters in your area and you will have a better chance of helping a fur baby in need.
I follow all the Petfinder steps, inquiry and application and heard nothing, Followed up with the agency directly and no response. Went to the agency website and completed another application which was more in - depth than adopting a baby. Sheesh! Then heard nothing, What on earth? Is this a real website?
I'm sure this site means well, but from our experience it was nearly impossible to find a puppy using this service - for all the same reasons everyone else is mentioning. After trying this service for a month with nothing but failures and disappointment, we went to Craigslist and found one in 10 minutes and picked it up within the hour.
The owners of pet finder should be ashamed of themselves for banning the adoption posts of innocent animals that have been rescued from the slaughter pipeline. They are essentially saying the animal should go to slaughter rather than find a loving home! As a company that CLAIMS to stand by these living sentient beings such a move betrays all that they claim to stand for! It's clear that the scum that make money from the horrific treatment and slaughter of certain animals (horses, farm animals ect) are more important to Pet finder than helping these animals find loving homes. I suspect money and politics to be a huge part of their decision and for that very reason I will NEVER use this website again if they don't change their policies and will spread the word to everyone I know about how much Petfinder really cares!
I am finding many dogs that are "safe with cats, children, other dogs" and it is not true at all. The shelter we adopted from was very small and dirty. After taking the dog home and being told she was not aggressive at all and never had any problems with others, she nearly killed my cat a few days later, literally out of nowhere, and they had been getting on very well together. When we returned the dog and told her what happened, we were told that it was probably just a fluke and that she was still going to list the dog as being compatible with cats. Yikes. Please screen your shelters better, or these animals will continue to be passed along and lied about.
On top of that, I feel that dogs with high prey drive instincts should probably not be listed as safe with smaller animals. My local Petfinder area is flooded with a greyhound racing breeder who claims their dogs are safe with all animals, though the breed has a very high prey drive and is likely to go after cats. While people should do their research, I bet there are a lot of people that don't and find out the hard way with a high vet bill or dead cat. All that said, I just can't trust Petfinder's screening processes or believe what people say about the animals up for adoption.
I had been dealing with Four Feet and a Heart Beat out of Lacombe AB for about a week and a half, June 2022. I was going to adopt a sweet pup from them. I finally got the response and a date to go and meet him, but when I asked about the adoption fee (which isn't posted any where) they said I had signed the Pre-adoption consultation application which states what the fees are about. I said I understand that and I was just asking for a fee breakdown. To which they said to me that I am no longer considered a good fit for their agency and cancelled my meet and possible adopt date. I asked them to reconsider, in several emails, which they ghosted. I was willing to pay the $675 they quoted me, no issues, but they did not respond to me and then said that I am not welcome and to not send them any more messages.
I have since read some reviews I have found online and they, for one, seem like they are a puppy mill type facility that retires the older, no longer needed dogs. Almost all of their dogs seem to be male and they all seem to be designer dogs. The facility doesn't look nice in their pictures, the dogs look unkept and uncared for. I'm not even sure these dogs have seen a vet for any type of treatment. One reviewer even said they went to look at the dog they were inquiring about and they turned around and left. Upon further research, I have found that this particular "rescue" has changed their name 2 or 3 times, with the same address. I am sure it is because they have had bad reviews. I have even contacted the other shelters and rescues in the area and they have not heard anything good about them. A foundation with the same name out of Calgary AB, even has a pinned post at the top of their Facebook page that states they have nothing to do with the Four Feet and a Heart Beat rescue/shelter in Lacombe AB, they are based out of Calgary.
I fear the dogs at Four Feet and a Heart Beat in Lacombe AB are not cared for. I feel that they are all about the money and don't care about the animals. I know, it sounds strange when I am willing to pay what they are asking, however, once you ask questions, you suddenly become unacceptable for their rescue.
Please be weary of Four Feet and a Heart Beat at Lacombe Alberta.
Talked to a woman from a Mi location. She has to be the rudest person I've ever talked to. Treated me like i was bum, acted like my grandkids would be animals to kittens, lectured me for 30 minutes on food brands and demanded I change my cats food to what she expects or she wouldn't even consider it, and demanded that I send her a photo of EACH room in my home! When I explained to her it was strange that she needs to see EVERY single room in our home even our personal space (ie bedrooms, bathrooms) she told me to pound sand. I will never go through this company to find my next fur child. I had to block her because she kept sending rude messages.
I think the PetFinder site/app is a good idea that has been turned into a bad experience for many people trying to find a pet and help an animal that needs a good home. Rescue agencies set very different and difficult bars to reach for many pet seekers and one has to wonder at the hoops they make people jump through in order to be approved to adopt a pet. I myself have raised 4 dogs over 30 years in apartments and condos with no access to a fenced in yard by having apartment sized breeds under 30lbs and by getting out in all types of weather conditions to ensure that the dogs had their social/sniff/exercise/toilet time at least 4 times a day and often more frequently. Yet, many rescue agencies on PetFinder won't even consider your application if you do not have a fenced in yard! I certainly understand and support their screening processes to reduce the risk that an animal will go to a bad situation but to assume that a dog can only be happily re-homed if there is a fenced in yard is to ignore the number of dogs that have suffered abuse by being permanently left out in a yard in all kinds of weather! These types of arbitrary restrictions on who will be approved for adoption do nothing to help these animals that need new homes nor do they help end the "puppy mill" business that rescue agency say they are apposed to. I have tried rescue agencies twice now in the last 15 years and have been very disappointed in their arbitrary adoption processes and I will never try them again. Thankfully I found my new pup at a reputable (I'm certain the agencies would disagree with that term) kennel and am very happy with him. He is in excellent health according to my Vet and I plan to give him a good life even though my townhouse doesn't have a fenced in back yard!
Like others have said, I filled out an application and got my hopes up when they contacted all of my references immediately. They all gave me really good reviews. Then nothing. I have sent emails, messages on Facebook, and not a single response. I have always felt it is better to save a dog than buy from a breeder, but dealing with these people has been a nightmare!
These People are extremely rude, they spoke to my 5 year old daughter in a rude way and they accused us of not being able to keep a little kitten for my daughter, they made my daughter cry for not letting her adopt her first Cat, they gave the cat to another person while my daughter cried knowing that my daughter had applied it first. And they were so rude that they didn't let any other cat be adopted, making a thousand excuses. They are obnoxious and completely rude.
I am through with this Petfinder not that they care anyway, who are they? I have filled out interest forms, applications, atleast five, and have never heard back, not once. All I'm trying to do is adopt, rescue a dog and give it a loving home after the passing of our beautiful dog last year. This place really does not appear to care about the dogs being adopted, to me it appears like a scam. This is my first time EVER leaving a negative review for anything but I am so very disappointed. I feel so bad for the dogs.
I can start by saying that I will never apply with them again
Upon my application for the puppy "Peter"
I was left to feel like a pile of crap I was asked after explaining my situation to them
Which was why did I have to euthanize my dog when I had already explained my baby girl trixie had to be put down because her acl/Ccl had completely torn on her back legs and she couldn't walk
We had plans for her surgery we got her custom casted braces
My son passed away a few days prior to this happening
The surgery was 5000 to 7000 each surgery with no guarantee
Her response once again she was confused with so many options out there why did You put her down
Well one you just lost me there I think my child's funeral expenses come first!
I have fostered many dogs for the shelters
So I really wanted to get a dog that needed a home and not a seller but you caused that not to happen congrats on losing a dog a good home
Love them dearly
They are family to me
He would of had a great home but thanks anyway I found my boy I miss and love my girl
My beautiful baby girl trixie and my new handsome boy tucker
Thanks anyway petfinder should find new people y'all suck stay away!
Answer: Not sure if Petfinders does this but AdoptaPet.com does.
Answer: Tried their services and only got requests to "sponsor" or donate for pets that may have been no-existent but no contact to actually adopt a pet
Answer: The only answer you will ever get is "contact the place/person you got the animal from or who has the animal". NOTHING ELSE.
