Buying online w/this retailer is best way to go with Petco, esp where there's not much competition on pet supplies, although now you must pick up the online order at the local store. Local store is a franchise and prices can be marked up as high as they want. Knew the pricing as had purchased online before - so was aware of cost - bgt the box of aquarium filters online for just over $7 w/local taxes, then picked up the order at nearby store. While there, checked the store price for same box of filters - quite an eye opener as it was $28 before taxes!
Bought 9 fish. When return home 2 was dead ne t morning. Took it back and they want me to pay more for the same fish. WHY this scams. Just exchange thats it. Will never shop to petco. They sold me fish with eic.
I bought cat food on 10-13-2020 at Petco store in Waite Park, MN. I then returned it a week later. I have since been trying to get my money back. I have numerous emails with them phone calls and still nothing. They said they sent my money back and sent me a receipt but the receipt they sent me was a different card number. The receipt was not mine not my purchase nothing not even same day! The routing number they gave me saying they sent it to me had nothing to do with my bank. They refunded it to someone's else's card and account. How did they do that? Why was it not returned to my card when my card is the one that was used to do the return? What's going on at that store? When I called they told me that they sent it to the escalation department then when I ask if I can speak to somebody in that department they tell me NO. They say the people in that department don't talk to people like me. I want is my money back and it's been 3 months! I have never in my life been treated like this at any store or had to pretty much beg for my money back! Unreal to be treated like this. Who else have they done this to? I think it's time to find out and get a lawsuit going cause I know I'm not the only one by the other reviews! I will report to everybody and anybody until I get my money back. I will be going to the BBB the attorney general whoever. No business no company should be allowed to treat people this way. I don't care if it is only $77 that's my $77. They want to take your money quick as hell but nobody wants to give it back.
On Sunday evening went to Petco at Killingly Common's in Dayville, CT. With my 7 yr old son who got a starter fish tank for Christmas. The associate in the fish dept. literally refused to sell me any fish stating the tank was too small even for a few neons. This not only crushed my 7 yr. Old but infuriated me. She was basically rude, far from helpful and I will never go back there. I'd add proof of purchase but..
I am a 20 year customer. Thank your Petco for understanding and getting my dog her toys. You made me feel like the priority... I am forever your customer

I have shopped at PetCo for many years at many locations and always found the employees very helpful and pleasant. My most recent interaction was beyond good customer service.
I sent PetCo an email letting them know my pet had died and could they please remove me from their mailing list as it made me sad every time they sent me a new advertisement.
First they sent me this nice note back:

NEVER buy an animal from Petco, not even a reptile, the animals they have there are sick and guaranteed to die within 1 - 10 weeks, I bought a bearded dragon (Just wanna note Petco only fed them 5 crickets a day, also they sell bearded dragons when they are too young, also they put all 5 crickets in the cage and if you put that many crickets in the cage they will eat the baby dragon, oh did I mention the crickets were huge... they can choke on those crickets) and the humidity was 80 way to high (at Petco) I bought her to rehabilitate her and I couldn't she had URI and she was underweight and also she couldn't breathe out of her nose so she had to breathe out of her mouth and tail rot/mouth/scale rot it was bad, but then she died :( So after that, I wanted a new bearded dragon, But I got it from a Breeder and it was so much healthier
But there was one thing I liked, that they fed them greens and apples. Their care is next to torture Petco gets those babies from mills. Whatever you do, please don't purchase ant animals from Petco, if you buy them you're basically giving them the money to torture more animals. Please don't buy one. PLEASE
We went to Petco because my daughter wanted a bearded dragon. We decided to go to the Petco in Hollywood and thank goodness we went there. The day before we had gone to pet smart and we had a bad experience. Anyways at Petco an employee named Manny helped us, he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the animals. The animals encounters looked great! Manny answered all our questions. We felt very welcome, it seem like if we knew him for years! So if you go to Petco in Hollywood and need assistance ask for Manny he is great!
Petco needs to stop carrying saltwater fish. The staff barely has minimal knowledge on the care of such delicate animals. They have animals together in their tanks that eat one another in nature or otherwise cannot peacefully co-exist. The salinity in their tanks is always way too low. The light in the tanks is completely inadequate for the photosynthetic invertebrates they sell, if not sold, said animals die in a few days to a week. Lastly, EVERY time I go to Petco their entire stock of saltwater fish are always infested with White-Spot disease, otherwise known as Ick.
Bring rabies record each time you go because they will lose it in their 'system update'. We had booked an appt a week out for grooming. Got there today to be told they couldn't find him/us in the system so they didn't have his rabies shot on record. Then they did find that he was there 3 mos ago for nail trimming and that the last rabies record they had on file expired 2 years ago. I explained we had updated it the last time we were there, obviously, to get his nails trimmed. Apparently their system update didn't hold onto that information. No apologies from staff, none from the manager for that error on their part. We won't be back.
Petco is the worst at grooming. I've taken my dog here for almost two years never had issues always listened. Last few times I've taken him they are not listening to me they barely cut his hair. I'm tired of paying $80 for an awful haircut. I WILL NOT BE BACK

I ordered a product from the Patchogue NY store, paid for it (with PayPal) filled in everything, including who was picking it up, phone number and email. My friend had 3 pages of documentation at the store, and sales person couldn't find the order. Colossal waste of time.
Had a appointment for my Australian Shepherd to get a bath, nail trimming, ear cleaning at 10; 30 am today aug. 6th 2020. When I arrived for my appointment on time there was a Yorkie on the table getting groomed. I asked is my Aussie next for my 10; 30 appointment. The groomer said no another dog is ahead of yours. I asked what time was the other dogs appointment. The groomer would not answer but said the other dog bites so needs to be next. What does a dog that bits have to do with having to be next? I asked how long then would it be before she could work on my 10; 30 appoint till my dog was done. The groomer said 2-3 hours. I cancel my appointment. A 10:30 appointment for a dog bath should not take 2-3 hours.
Very bad experience at the Clinton Petco today. The last time I took Sadie in, 3 weeks ago, I took her to get her shots. I signed her up for the thrive plan because they gave me a coupon for a free visit. They also told me that the entire thriveplan would be included in the total of my charge. I paid $251. I had to get her a booster shot today. And they tried to charge me $40 when they told me what I was there three weeks ago that it was going to be included because she was on the thrive plan. When I asked about it she told me she didn't know what I was talking about and it was going to be $10 a month for the thrive plan and $40 for today's visit. Waiting for a manager to call me back on Monday. If I don't get the resolution I need, Petco can go screw themselves
This company has fired employees, stripping away desperately needed health benefits and income, during Covid and the country's financial crisis. Their reasoning is not based on severe issues such as violent behavior or customer treatment, but because of the smallest of issues (ex: a beta recently pooped in it's water, or a fish had new water (which comes out of the tap cloudy until it settles) and the water hadn't crystallized yet. These things are enough to take away security and healthcare from American citizens. It doesn't matter that the people affected are immunocompromised, or that newborn infants will be stripped of their health coverage during Covid. It doesn't even matter that the people fired were not the ones "at fault" since the employees you could say were responsible are still there. It doesn't matter that the ones fired had taken steps to try to fix the issues.
I went to get some birdseed and wanted to use the restroom to re-insert my contact lens because I could not drive without the contact lens. I talked to the manager and he absolutely would not let me enter the restroom. His excuse was COVID! He told me I could walk over to Home Depot and use their restroom! What? From now on I am buying everything for my pets online.
Jack the manager asked me and my wife to leave after making the comment that the mask that we are all requiring to wear was a waste of time ( me and the wife did have ours on) and the staff member made the comment that you wear them if you dont want to get others sick and i told her that thats mental to be-leave that. Jack then asked us to leave. We will never go bad to that poorly run store.

I tried ordering prescription Royal Canin food through Petco.com and it was awful. No store anywhere near me carried this food and my dog has developed severe allergies so she actually has no food to eat that doesn't cause her harm until this arrives. Petco delayed and delayed. They lost the order, didn't send it to the vet for approval, couldn't manage to send the fax to the right place, wouldn't the prescription the vet gave me, and refused to take anything other than a *handwritten prescription* that specified a ton of detail. Even that they couldn't get together since they couldn't manage the right fax. After an hour on the phone with them and half a dozen calls to my vet I finally got them to call the vet for a verbal approval and they released ONE BAG of food. They didn't put the prescription into the system though. And after all those delays more than a week it still took five more days to get the food here. This is utterly ridiculous. Don't bother with this terrible company.
I purchased some aquarium gravel online through Petco's website. Immediately afterwards I realized I would rather just order it from the store and and do curb side pickup in order to save on shipping. I went to cancel my order through Petco, and the Petco site said you had to call them for cancellations, which I found kind of odd in this day in age, but whatever, I called them to cancel. I explained what happened and they said they would handle the cancellation request while I put in another order for curb side pickup from my local Petco. They said someone would follow back up with me the next day in regards to my cancellation request, which again, I found pretty odd; why do they need to contact me the next day in regards to a cancellation request, just cancel it. So the next day I pickup my order from Petco. On my way home I get a call from a customer service representative in regards to my online order. They said it already shipped and they couldn't cancel the request and that there was nothing they could do. Again, I put in my cancellation requests literally minutes after I submitted the order. I'm guessing these traditional retail companies with a web presence are getting owned so bad by the successful online retailers like Amazon and Chewy that they have to resort to shady tactics in order to milk their customers for every penny. Whatever, I will file a dispute with the credit card company and never shop at Petco again. Screwing your customers over for penny's is not a long term strategy for success. I will stick with online retailers like Chewy who do it right and don't try and screw over the customer.
