OfferUp Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of OfferUp is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and account management issues. Users frequently report abrupt account deactivations without clear explanations, along with challenges in resolving disputes and obtaining refunds. Additionally, many customers express frustration with the app's glitches and the prevalence of fraudulent listings. While some users have had positive experiences with transactions, these are overshadowed by the negative sentiments surrounding the platform's reliability and support. The need for improved communication and user-friendly processes is evident to enhance overall customer experience.

OfferUp has a lot of fake "Potential buyers". There are a lot of fake views after I upload my selling item. The fake potential buyers often ask the price and never respond your answer.

I had a truck for sell I listed it and added the premium to help sell it. I have sold the truck not by offer up. But I removed it on June 10th and then 3 days later I see a charge for the premium and when I questioned it I am told curtly no refund will be issued. I have to cancel a membership for premium that I did not have. But basically they told me to f off. Great company now I know why they will not provide a phone number only email for customer service. BE VERY CAREFUL USING THIS COMPANY. This is what they wrote

This is Fran from OfferUp Customer Support.

Please be informed that selling your promoted item does not mean the subscription will be canceled too. Promote Plus is a monthly subscription, and you've already pre-paid for the rest of the current billing cycle, there will not be a refund issued. You'll have to cancel the subscription in order for the monthly payments to stop.

OfferUp discriminates against Seniors and Disabled Persons!

I was using OfferUp for about a year after becoming disabled due to a botched spinal surgery back in 2020.
I was mostly buying things like mobility scooters and other things like that. I had a 5 star rating from everyone.
I started to notice that my messages were not getting through to anyone, nor was anyone else's messages getting through to me.
I sent a message to OfferUp, letting them know that there was a problem, and asking for their help.
I immediately got a response saying that my account had been blocked and banned for violating their terms.

I have sent at least a dozen messages to them asking what I did that caused me to be banned. I do know that one of the times that I signed in, I used my Google account (which is the same email address), and the problem seemed to start shortly after that.

I wrote to them again asking them if that was the problem and again only got the same canned response. Banned!
I am not a young man, I am in my late 60's and I am still trying to figure out how all of this stuff works.
I do not knowingly violate any terms, but without actually knowing what they term was, makes me totally unable to fix it.

Despite being "banned ", I still receive at least a dozen emails a week from them telling me how much they miss me and why haven't I been on the site.

I believe that OfferUp is run by a few totally inept kids who only got off of their phones long enough to press "Send" each time I have tried to contact them for help in getting back on their platform.

I know that I was nothing but a stellar customer of their service and was in no way a threat to anyone.

I truly believe that they do their best to eliminate anyone who is older so that they can keep their social media influencers happy.

I have often said that "Companies always die from within!" You don't ban good customers, giving them no way to even discuss anything with anyone and continue to thrive. There are al lot of other companies out there that are competing with them for your business. GO TO THEM! OfferUp has a terrible reputation for their banning policy anyway. Really terrible, as I really liked using their site.

I was an amazing seller for 3 years with nearly 1000 sales and 300+ stars. They randomly decided to shadow ban me. I got messages on some items but anything new I posted received 0 views and messages. I kept mailing support and they would say "oh sorry our mistake" then enable my lasted batch of listings but NO new listings would go live. This went on for 5 months. Basically a shadow ban with zero feedback on your side but I'd still have sales (10 over 5 months) vs. 20-30 a month. THEN on my 5th or 6th email on enabling my auctions or making them go live, they just decided to ban me instead. I asked why and apparently some of my first few listings from 3 years back had a link to my facebook page. Other services just remove the links while offerup combs your text then bans you.

I was an awesome seller, I had 100+ followers. My customers loved me. I got Offerup business. But they refuse to unban me for no good reason. I didn't spam the same item. I didn't create 10 accounts for each city (like some do). I didn't rip anyone off. I sold everything at a DISCOUNT. This company is garbage.

Offer up is trash
Offer up has turned to garbage. I have a stellar rating and have all the badges you can get. Not even one bad rating. So why is it that the last 3 months none of my items that are priced above $80 show up in searches? Neither vauge, keyword, or verbatim title or brand name searches. But
Show in the app dashboard the item as having been viewed by buyers? If it was a bug it wouldn't show fake view count... I believe it's a devious manipulation of successful sellers that become somewhat dependant on the app. By lowering our success rate they hope to coerce us into purchasing advertising services. It is dishonest, unethical, and and very disrespectful and goes completely against their only claimed advertised service. I have never used their shipping or deceived a buyer. I have tried to contact customer service 2 or 3 times total in 5 years with no reply whatsoever. I only offer quality items in great condition for very reasonable prices. Their customer care is non existent and apparently if yoy make decent sales they manipulate the user into paying for services by not posting their items even though they specifically show it as being browsed when their is no possible way it was. Taking advantage of people that rely on this type of marketplace is unacceptable.

Their website has so many problems. I wanted to go see some furniture so in my correspondence with the seller, I gave my phone number as we were going to go see it. Evidently, that is against their rules. No problem. However, I couldn't respond to the seller because I was now blocked. I wrote their customer service team. Very slow and sterile response. They said they reinstated me. I tried to respond to the customer but was still blocked. I would suggest that OfferUp management hold focus groups to understand their internal problems and poor customer service. The person in charge of their customer service is failing miserably.

Awful site/app
April 17, 2023

The people running this thing are a joke. They will not protect you and will randomly make your life harder by interfering when not warranted. They will not communicate. This is one of the worst marketplaces on the net today. Stay away.

Worst site ever
April 12, 2023

I sold cars on OfferUp. The site is full of scammers and spam. You get a hundred messages a day asking for your phone number from fake accounts. The site will also take your money when you post items, and not even actually post the item. If you request refunds, they will cancel your account. Whole website is a scam and needs to be shut down! Good luck with customer service, they will give you the run around.

Fake buyers
April 12, 2023

As soon as I listed a couple of items I received people interested in buying them but when I responded to their interest they didnt respond. One asked me to verify I was for real they would send me a 5 or 6 digit number so I would respond with that number. Sounds like some high tech scam. This site, iin my opinion, is NO GOOD to sell anything, waste of time.

They suck
April 3, 2023

I was gonna say these people defend scam artists, but clearly there are enough of those reveiws to write a book. I wrote my information and the site just went "something went wrong" after I finished shipping information. Every detail was missing accept the debit card number. It's actually weird the varying number of different types of scams I've read about soo far. A company shouldn't be in business after it's been sued multiple times.

I have been on offer up several years. Recently trying to sell items including collectables etc due to my wife's health. I couldn't log in on my PC but could my cell phone app. I sent email asking for help. It took a few days. I was able to sign in on both my PC and Cell app. What I didnt realize for several days after. They deleted ALL my prior history, of purchases, od sold item, and MOST importantly, things I was selling. Fast forward after attempting emails, and then attempting emails again to EVERY dept Offer up allows, I received 1 email stating how they are Achieved. Remember, I've already waited about 10 days for answers. I followed the instructions how to bring them back So I could see them. Wow, offer up achieved the items Im selling, that means marked as SOLD. I did not do this. Offer up did. Once Archived means sold means you cant relist it. You have to Re Post the pictures, The verbiage, the amount etc.I live in Miami Dade Country Fl. Many speak spanish. I even translated the verbiage into spanish. I also listed a Nascar type Drive Experience for sale. They sent me an email stating I violated there policies fo advertising a service... ***I DID advertise a service. Its a Groupon type item for sale, Hello Lees then the face value I paid for it. **** Then before I could respond they Blocked my account. THat was a few weeks ago. I emailed them asking to please please have upper management or anyone that really truly has authority to fix what they messed up and contact me. I also stated that in many of my emails I stated I don't think they are aware of how poorly there customer service is or, They dont care. Either way. Im done... It sucks to think that I am trying to cover living expenses and Cant with Offer Up. If I share the medical conditions that my wife is going through and myself included it will be very heart breaking. I said that so hopefully someone will try to use compassion in there thought

Tried to give for free, 3 Roosters away on offer up.
Had my add pulled as they said I could not sell live animals on their site. So I went to look and see what all could not be sold on the site. I was shocked to see that they do not allow so much perfectly legal items to be sold. What they do allow is mostly junk.
What business is it of theirs controlling what I want to sell or give away to people that want to buy legal items. I am off this site forever now. And to top it off I see if you pay for adds you can and do list live chickens on the site. See photo of add.

Scamer heaven
March 28, 2023

I got scammed by a creep on offerup, so I reported it. They told me they'll take care of it. All they did was to block me from contacting him and his ad remains there to this day.

On March 24,2023, I created an OfferUp account. Then attempted to list 2 items for sale. This took almost 2 hours as each time I would try to list an item I would get a menu prompt that stated the offer was not listed. Finally, I was able to get one item listed. Less than 24 hours later, OfferUp sends me an email stating my account has been cancelled due to me allegedly violating their guidelines. HUH? I have no ideas what I did or what they think I did. So, I appealed via their support email, twice. Each time they replied in a general statement.

"Your account has been removed from OfferUp due to violations of our Community Guidelines and Posting Rules."

Huh? I can't even begin to think of what I did wrong. I tried to use this company in good faith. Between their process for listing items to sell being confusing and their discriminatory cancel culture mentality with no specific details, they have wasted my time and tried my patience. Beware of using OfferUp. If they care to respond in a professional manner specifically outlining the reason they treated me so harshly then please do. Here are my 2 request support case numbers:

Support Request: *******
Support Request: *******

Otherwise, don't bother to waste anymore of my time. And, shame on you for making me a victim of your flawed protocols.
