Generally pleasant experience
July 18, 2019

I like feeling connected with people in our small town through Nextdoor. I've met some lovely neighbors, found outlets for my fruit, learned from others experiences, gotten some good recommendations. Even the negative posts can give you insight into who to avoid. I love that we are an animal loving group and care passionately about our town.

It could be so great, but it's so not. Posts by people wanting to sell their crap: oils, cookies, massages, etc. are not banned. Complaints to them about this were ignored.
And, as someone else indicated below, because they have local yokels running the show, I've often seen that people with opposing viewpoints to those LYs (a certain church, for example) are offensively bullied onsite -- over and over, without recourse.
People are better off starting a group on Facebook or Reddit.
This site is deceptive and poorly run.
The cat catcher post below breaks my heart. That should tell you everything you need to know about this garbage site.

Systemic bias
September 23, 2020

I have found NextDoor to be systemically biased against those with conservative views. They rarely, if ever, remove posts from liberals and never suspend them, to my knowledge. ND regularly censors and de-platforms conservatives, however.

While ND has good intention and operates on promoting local advertising, its guideline and lack of support leaves a huge room for community to turn against one another. For example, I've seen personal information posted online with one-sided stories, false claims, verbal attacks, intentional or unintentional to cause harms to others. ND will only interfere when the bullies complains without proper review to make sure the complain is valid and with merit. If you lived under "socialist-communist" society previously, you'll recognize that how ND operates: bully and the strong prevails, the weak, the kind and the considerate will be weeded out.

This app is controlled by finicky uber strict moderators that can deem anything they feel like "inappropriate" and delete. It's mostly just for old cranky people to complain about how things have really gone down hill since hey first moved in. Or people reporting about packages being stolen. It is garbage.

Good to have
May 30, 2019

Nextdoor is very helpful to me in many ways. Some examples are 1) referrals for home services, restaurants, auto repair and barbers. 2) Neighborhood issues like crime, insects and stray cats. While most contributors are helpful, others have strange or hostile inputs. Sometimes the site administrator will improperly take sides with the perpetrator of an argument simply because that person submitted a complaint. I understand that it needs to be kept constructive but that can be quite tricky sometimes. I don't like improper advice to be disseminated so I try to diplomatically state the correct point of view.

NextDoor makes it personal!
May 30, 2019

ND makes it easy to live life in your neighborhood on a more personal level--make friends, hire contractors, air gripes/offer praise, find missing pets, sell stuff/buy stuff, and stay on top of potential crimes or suspicious individuals. It's a little heartbeat of my neighbors that I can access anytime. Love it!

Digital Fabric for A Close-knit Community
May 23, 2019

This is a great tool for uniting neighbors in addressing matters ranging from crime in our neighborhood to finding lost pets, calling out predatory business practices (such as we're now experiencing with Comcast's violation of their "lifetime no increase in fee" guarantee), getting referrals for reputable tradesmen, getting gardening tips, or simply getting to know the rich diversity of "neighbors" around us. I greatly appreciate this platform.

Highly biased website. Additionally, nextdoor.com wants too much personal information and indiscriminately censors those with differing opinions than their own. They censored one of my posts to Vote YES on Proposition 6, citing "Political Content" All the while they were accepting advertising dollars from the Vote YES on 6 campaign. So they can advertise it, but its members cannot post about it. I was then accused of "Discrimination," which to me is a very serious accusation and made no sense. Anyone whose agenda differs from yours can complain and get you kicked off the site. They practice censorship in the worst way and definitely interfere with freedom of speech.

Great concept poorly executed. Works well for strictly information sharing (buy and sell things, event notices) but don't have opinions or ideas as you will be booted. I was put in time out until I agree to let idiots control my thoughts. No thanks. I will also now be on a campaign to get people to dump Nextdoor. By the way, my crime was calling someone who was bullying domestic violence victims "ignorant". It appears my disturbing experience is not unique.

Absolutely worthless
November 29, 2022

This app was supposed to be able to connect neighbors within a city/town with helpful information as in restaurants, appliance repair, etc. It is nothing more than a terrible platform similar to Facebook. Full of bullies, and hate filled messages. No way to obtain assistance from "Leads" or area supervisors. Not worth the effort.

We message and talk to our leads about issues. They do not listen or do anything. I am one of two co captains in neighborhood watch. We try to tell them some problems. But, nothing. It appears just a power thing. Disappointed

Love Nextdoor because it is an easy way to connect with so many neighbors in our area, ask questions, and find excellent vendors! Super helpful on safety tips, selling items, and repair individuals. Excellent website!

Nextdoor is nothing but a data collecting, censoring machine. If someone doesn't like what you have to say, they will get you by having your content censored and your account suspended. Not an organization I'm interested in supporting, especially in today's world. We have enough of that going on right now.

Great resource for professional services
June 27, 2019

Many residents relocated here and had to create a reliable list of contacts for services. In my previous life, I depended on Angie's List for reputable contractors. Next Door is an even better solution.

I've used this site for several years and it's been a great help to me, allowing me to share items I'm getting rid of, ask to borrow some folding chairs, announce fun events, etc. I was surprised to see it getting negative reviews, and when I read them I learned that they were almost all because people in their neighborhood were behaving badly in the group-- something you run into pretty much anywhere on these kinds of lists. Good "list etiquette" is always going to be necessary, but that's a people issue, not a site issue. This site does a great job of creating better community, fostering sharing, and helping neighbors to support each other in many ways. Be nice, leave your controversial politics at home, and you'll get great value from this.

Left wing politics at NextDoor
Suppress free speech. Takes family feud to the next level. I see little value from angry mobs of activists
Putting forth their opinions and gossip instead of
Insight based on facts and research.

I was locked out because I posted things that were true & backed up by med reports & law enforcement. Someone took offense. They have become the thought & speech police since becoming part of FB. True statements are not allowed if it goes against liberal talking points.

Horrible!
October 3, 2023

My account was disabled. I have no idea why. I didn't post anything controversial, political, racist, or anything that would offend anyone. Good riddance! Only 2 actually neighbors are on it. A whole lot of advertising!
