Managed to track my family tree back through the Industrial Revolution to the Middle Ages, to the Norman conquest of England, the dark ages and back to the Romans. Amazing! So much history and mix of folk from paupers to royals. Fantastic!
Het concept van het overnemen van gegevens van andere leden loopt wel goed.
De ondersteunende software is echter ver onder de maat. Daarom vind ik Myheritage vreselijk duur.
De mogelijkheden om de stamboom te analyseren, of te filteren op periode, woonplaats, naam, beroep etc zijn nagenoeg nihil.
De enige manier om nieuwe matches te zoeken is van a-z door een lijst te lopen. En iedere keer als je dan gegevens overneemt van een math, dan kun je weer bij het begin van de lijst beginnen.
Bij het overnemen van gegevens uit een match zet het systeem je op het verkeerde been door bv Jan Jansen voor te stellen als 'nieuwe broer', terwijl je Jan Jansen al in je bestand hebt. Dan moet je 'verkeerde persoon' aanklikken om te ontdekken dat je inderdaad Jan Jansen al in je bestand hebt.
Bij de omschrijving van een match zie je vaak staan dat je 'nieuwe partner'of 'nieuwe kinderen' kunt toevoegen. Als je de match vervolgens opent, dan blijkt vaak dat die 'nieuwe partner' of die 'nieuwe kinderen' al lang in je stamboom staan.
Bij het overnemen van gegeven uit een andere stamboom zie je niet of betreffende persoon wel als 'overleden' is geregistreerd. Vervolgens moet je dat controleren via de inconsistentie mogelijkheid, en inderdaad kun je dan weer vervuiling wegwerken. Dat kan makkelijke softwarematig worden voorkomen.
Dat geldt ook voor het overnemen van 'discoveries'. Je importeer wel 10-12 persnonen zonder in de details te kunnen kijken. Vaak zijn die bestanden zo vervuild, dat je tientallen minuten bezig bent om de verkeerde informatie eruit te filteren. Je ziet bij het overnemen van gegevens van een andere stamboom ook nooit wat de doopdatum is. Als je dan de geboortedatum overneemt, blijkt achteraf dat die na de -ook ingevoerde, maar niet zichtbare- geboortedatum ligt. Dat geeft ook weer aanleiding om die gegevens achteraf te corrigeren. Software kan dat makkelijk controleren bij invoer.
Regelmatig gebeurt het dat, door het overnemen van gegevens uit andere stambomen, hele takken van mijn stamboom opnieuw worden ingevoerd, en dat dezelfde takken twee of drie keer voorkomen. Myheritage controleert alleen of broers en zusters dezelfde namen hebben. Dat dezelfde namen (en dezelfde geboorte en sterfdata) ook bij neven, nichten, achterneven en achterachterneven voorkomen heeft het systeem niet in de gaten. Het is telkens zeer veel werk om deze vervuilingen tegen te gaan. En je loopt grote kans om toegevoegde tekstinformatie (anecdotes, toelichtingen op beroep en leven) daarbij kwijt te raken zonder dat je dat door hebt.
Er zijn nauwelijks mogelijkheden om de eigen stamboom te onderzoeken door filtern. Bijvoorbeeld op 'rechtstreekse voorouders', op perioden, op beroepen, op voor cq achternamen, voorletters. De enige selectiemethoden die je hebt leiden tot een vreselijk lange lijst die ja van a tot z moet doornemen om alles gezien te hebben. Als je alleen personen wilt zien die met een H beginnen, moet je 'selecteer op achternamen' kiezen, maar toch bij A beginnen om halverwege tot de H te komen. Knullig toch?
De zg krantenmatches beloven veel, maar gezien ht aantal kranten dat geladen is, zou je wel meer informatie verwachten. Soms een bericht uit een USA-krant maar daar houdt het wel mee op.
Het komt regelmatig voor dat een match belooft om 'het beroep'toe te voegen. Vervolgens open je de match om te vinden dat in het veld Beroep alleen staat 'geen beroep'. Knullig toch?
Als je gegevens uit een andere stamboom overneemt, dan zie je vaak dat in je eigen stamboom hetzelfde beroep als 4 keer is overgenomen, met dezelfde tekst. Blijkbaar wordt er helemaal niet gecontroleerd welke informatie je al hebt. Vervolgens zien je dat MyHeritage aanbeveelt om beroepen toe te voegen die allang (een twee, viermaal) in je eigen bestand voorkomen. Knullig toch?
Dat zijn nu de belangrijkste punten. Ze veroorzaken niet alleen ergernis, maar ook veel nodeloos werk. Verzoek om meer waar voor mijn geld te krijgen.
You suddenly started deducting subscriptions in 2024 (and 2025) despite confirming cancellation in 2022 after i advised that I cancelled after the 14 day trial. I have no Aus ancestors, so the site was not at all helpful. I found everything i needed on Myfamily. I was reminded of this today when another payment came through. Please refund the amounts you have fraudulently taken from me in 2024 and now again in 2025.

When there is a problem, like my wife's tree not linking with her DNA, customer service seems to ignore these problems even though I got the attention of the AI assistant who passd it on to a cusomer service live person. This caused me to delete her DNA and now I cannot upload her raw DNA because uploads of raw autosomal DNA are not accepted now. Also when you have a large tree it sometimes takes months for the tree to be processed. Both my wife's account and my account have trees with more than 10,000 persons. So if customer service would just send a response saying we are working on the problem you identified, it would be much better than at present.
Often I am satisfied with the new members in my tree but sometimes it is very wrong. It is not possible that it is my relative.
To adequately use this service would take a huge amount of time that I don't have. I don't know what to do when I find wrong data. I save each email but haven't gone back to work on my family history. Yes, I'd like to know much more but personally time is nasty issue. I don't really need to know possible 4th cousin's children.
I was surprised when I noticed a $ 435.68 charge via Paypal for a Complete Plan, as I had not ordered it. I had not noticed the previous year when I joined MyHeritage there was an auto-renew clause. But I was short on money and did not have much time to spend on this hobby. The gentleman I talked to was pleasant throughout and came up with options as they did not seem to want to part with the money. As a result for about twice the price I negotiated a multi-year plan. I'm pretty happy about that as I wanted to spend time exploring MyHeritage options versus Ancestry that I had used for many years.
I especially like the Old News references to my ancestors that pop up in my inbox. I do have a subscription to Old News, so this might not be for everyone.

I spent quite a bit renewing my package for another five years, I received very quick service when it came to selling me something but it's been pretty lax where after sales service is concerned

I paid extra for the Omni membership to have the extra tools. I cannot use Legacy 10 because it isn't compatible with Chrome OS or my Chromebook. Not everyone uses Windows. This makes having this membership less useful to me. I also don't have the tree tracing paths to all of my DNA matches and don't know how to fix duplicates and tree discrepancies and I have a lot. I'm questioning why this costs so much if certain users don't have full access to the benefits?
I have used MyHeritage for a long time. I have more than 10,000 individuals in my family tree. I was able to find the most distant ancestors and relatives. With DNA I could connect to family members in Australia and the USA. Record matches pointed out a news paper article obout the funeral of a great grand uncle in Clinton, Iowa, with about 200 people attending and about 70 carriages. Another record match had an article in a New York magazine about a great grand father who had never left his home town of Hamburg, Germany. It has been a most intersting journey into the different branches of my family.
Answer: My issue was the automatic renewal without any kind of courtesy reminder prior to the effective date, as other businesses do. Advising one year in advance is a poor business practice. When I contacted them immediately on the renewal effective date, they refused to cancel and offered me a 25% discount. They eventually gave me the full refund but it was due to me turning it over to AMEX to resolve. I do however agree with the advice to base your renewal on your own personal experience.

They are highly Sloppy and unprofessional in responding to customer request for assistance. Even though they have and excellent Technical Team. Fortunately I have another Computer with Windows 8 as a result of which I am able to continue working with my Website. But recently a few problems have cropped up with the recent upgrade of the My Heritage Program and have sent in a request for assistance and till today 3-5 months later I have no response. Apparently the company believes that they can play games with the customers. I firmly believe that they have somehow gone into self destructive mode.

Answer: Hi After posting my complaint about MyHeritage on here I got a very quick response from some one called Dave at the company. He told me to send an email to support@myheritage.com and add the subject Dave: sitejabber. He responded a couple of days later - I emailed on a Saturday - and the auto repeat on my subscription was cancelled and my money refunded within days. Hope this helps.
